Changed SQL in view object causing problems

Hi,
I'm using Jdev 10.1.3.2, oracle 10g, and ADFBC.
I created a view object by joining three tables and selecting attributes from them in the select clause. Later, I didn't want some of them, so I commented them out in the sql statement. Now when I query the data using either the application module tester, or run a page with the table on it, the data is not returning in the correct columns. For instance my row attribute #{row.UPC} is showing a number from an entirely different column. I looked at the xml, and rowImpl java files and could not find anything that looked wrong, except that the columns I commented out were not showing up with the values indicating that they were transient as outlined in section 6.10.2 of the ADF developers guide for forms/4gl developers, ie column type = $none$ and no table name attribute. I don't know if they should show up that way or not since they do come from a table, but aren't being used at the moment.
I've checked the froums, just f'n googled it, and checked the dev guide but didn't find anything, so I was hoping someone on here had the same problem. If there is anything else I could post to help, please let me know, though none of it is custom code, and my sql is extremely simple.
Thank you,
Eric Liskow

Well, I didn't find a solution, but I deleted the transient values, redid the view object, and started a new page and it worked. I'd still like to know if anyone knows what happened though. If I have to do that in a production site soon it wouldn't be much fun!

    Child view object refresh problem,
    Detail expaination of problem with DEPT and Emp table:
    I have two pages first.jspx and secound.jspx
    In the First page we are showing one department and All Employee blongs to that department. Employees are shown in table format.
    and i have duplicate button in table--> this will create a duplication record of selected employee by calling application module
    and the control moves to sencound page to show the newly created Employee details.
    From secound form am returning back with some action button to previous page to the same dept , The newly created records are not showing in the table [but the database has newly crated].
    How do i refresh the child view object ?

  • Changing a Programmatic View Object's query at run-time

    Hi,
    I've created a programmatic View Object using the information in '35.9.3 Key Framework Methods to Override for Programmatic View Objects' in the Oracle Middleware Fusion Guide and bound it to a BarChart. This has worked fine using the following:
    String myColumn = "Quant1";
    protected void create() {
    getViewDef().setQuery(null);
    getViewDef().setSelectClause(null);
    setQuery(null);
    String myQuery = "SELECT Service as MyService, " + myColumn + " as MyValue FROM ColumnTestTable WHERE 1 = 1";
    getViewDef().setQuery(myQuery);
    setQuery(myQuery);
    I also have my data updating automatically. I have public properties in my viewObjImpl class which I can set and update the value of myColumn. I then thought it would just be a case of re-calling the create() method and the SQL would be updated and my chart would auto-update using the new column to select it's values, the value of the property updates and the create method is called but the chart doesn't display any different data and stops auto-updating. Does anybody know if this is possible and if so what I may have missed?
    Cheers, Tom

    Hi Timo,
    I moved everything to a different public method and solved the problem by firing the execute() method which I hadn't been doing previously and the chart updates with the correct data.
    However, once I execute the SQL my chart stops auto-updating with changes to the data in the database - do you know how I update the SQL query but keep my chart auto-updating? Perhaps I have to re-register for the registerDatabaseChangeListener for the query collection?
    Thanks in advance, Tom

  • View Object Encoding problem

    I'm using Jdeveloper version 11.1.2.1. I have a encoding problem when creating View Object based on a query. This is my query:
    select id, DECODE(id,'11','Индивидуално,'13','Semejno','14','Grupno') naziv
    from ins_type
    where class_id = '14' and id in ('11', '13', '14')
    It is a simple LOV query with cyrilic letters. When I save the ViewObject and re-open it im getting question marks(???????) instead of the cyrilic letters. This only happens in the view object. I dont have other encoding issues when working with cyrilic letters only when im trying to build a View Object based on a query that has cyrilic letters. If i read those values from the database everything is fine
    Thanks,

    Change the encoding of your application to UTF-8 which appears to be sufficient for cyrilic chars. Here is a quick guide on how to do this http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17984_01/doc.898/e14693/appa_configuring_jdev.htm
    You may also need to update any pages that have encoding explicitly set

  • BC4J: embedding Special SQL in View Objects

    While BC4J allows for easier development because developers do not need to embed a lot of SQL in Java codes, I wonder how I could embed special SQLs either into my Java code or in the View Object Wizard. For example, the following SQL statement could not be entered into the View Object Wizard:
    select key1, key2, SCORE(10),SCORE(20)
    from table1
    where contains (attrib1, 'apple', 10) >0 OR
    contains (attrib1, 'orange', 20) > 0
    Order by NVL(SCORE(10),0), NVL(SCORE(20),0);
    How can I embed the above SQL statement properly in a View Object? Or do I have to write SQLJ code outside of a View Object?

    As you mentioned BC4J gives the flexibility of using all valid SQL statements.
    For you query above, you would have to do the following.
    You would need to create caluclated attributes for SCore(10) and score(20)
    Select the ViewObject in Navigator and edit it (right mouse button)
    Select Attributes Tab
    Click on New attribute Score(10) and you can give an alias name for that.
    same goes for score(20) also.
    Select query tab now
    Choose expert mode check box
    Paste your query in the text box
    and Orderby clause in the orderby textbox
    click on the test button to test it

  • How To change the ADF View Object  query where-clause at RunTime?

    I am trying to create a simple display page which will display user data (username, assoc_dist_id, assoc_agent_id, status , etc). The User data is stored in a database table and i am using an ADF Read Only table based on the View Object to display the data on the JSF page.
    However, i want to display only the users that a particular person accessing the page has the AUTH LEVEL to see. e.g. If the person accessing the page is an 'ApplicationAdministrator' then the page should display all users in the table, If its a 'DistributorAdministrator' then the page should display only users associated with that Distributor (i.e. assoc_dist_id = :p_Dist_id ) and If its an 'AgentAdministrator' , then the page should display only users associated with that Agent ( i.e. assoc_agent_id = :p_Agent_id).
    Currently my af:table component displays all the users in the table because the query for the view object is (select * from users) . However, i want to use the same viewobject and just set the where-clause at runtime with the appropriate parameter to restrict the dataset returned.
    Do anyone knows how to accomplish this ?

    David,
    See the custom method initializeDynamicVariableDefaults() in the SRViewObjectImpl.java class in the FrameworkExtentions project in the SRDemoSampleADFBC sample application. You can find out how to install the demo if you haven't already from the ADF Learning Center at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/learnadf.html
    This class is a framework extension class for view objects that adds a neat, generic feature to be able to dynamic default the value of named bind variables. You can read more about what framework extension classes are and how to use them in Chapter 25, "Advanced Business Components Techniques" of the ADF Developer's Guide for Forms/4GL Developers, also available at the learning center above.
    It is an example of generic framework functionality that "kicks in" based on the presence of custom metadata properties on a named bind variable. See section 25.3.3 "Implementing Generic Functionality Driven by Custom Properties" in the dev guide for more details. Using this sample code, if you add a bind variable to a view object, and define a custom metadata property named "DynamicDefaultValue" on that bind variable, and set this custom metadata property to the value "CurrentUser", then that bind variable will have its value dynamically defaulted to the name of the authenticated user logged in. If instead you set this custom property to the value "UserRole", then the bind variable will be set to the comma-separated string containing the list of roles that the authenticated user is part of.
    Once you've created a framework extension class for view objects like this, you can have the view objects you create inherit this generic functionality.See section 25.1.4 "How to Base an ADF Component on a Framework Extension Class" in the dev guide for more info on this.
    By adapting a technique like this (or some idea similar that better suits your needs) you can have your view object query contain bind variables whose values automatically take on the defaults based on something in the user-session environment.

    #gallery {
    padding:10px;

    Your thumbnail images won't go right across the page as a consequence of it being set to 580px wide.
    Also I have no idea what you mean by:
    'but then my images will not display properly on my website.'
    How don't they display correctly? Do they disappear, appear top to bottom, left to right, inside out or back to front, suddenly appear with MIckey Mouse faces all over them?
    If you post in the forum at least give some detailed explanation of what it is that is happening. No one is a mind reader!

  • Master-detail with dynamic view object

    How can you create a view link with a view object that is dynamic? I have created a master-detail relationship on a UIX page. I change the master view object at runtime using a view definition and SQL and then I bind the view object to an iterator on a UIX page. I need the new dynamic view object to maintain the link between the detail view object. Is this possible?
    The reason why I have to change the view object at runtime is because I am implementing a search module and the tables in the from clause can be modified at runtime so I need to have a dynamic view object.
    Thanks,
    Sanjay

    After playing around with ViewObjectImpl's setQuery() method some more I found out that this solution might not work for me due to the following reason: when the user tries to sort a column in the result table, the original contents of the view object get executed instead of the run time query.
    <p>
    I would like to go back to my original solution that included creating a view definition based on the runtime query and then creating a view object from that which I bind to the RowSetIterator. The missing piece to the master-detail functionality is with the detail Iterator being in sync with the master. I have tried the following but I get a ClassCastException <p>
    DCIteratorBinding detailBinding = ctx.getBindingContainer().findIteratorBinding("DetailIterator");
    detailBinding.getViewObject().<b>setMasterRowSetIterator</b>(masterBinding.getRowSetIterator());
    <p>

  • Change layout of Viewer  in 10g

    I was wondering if there are more people having problems with the fact that changing the layout of the viewer in the iAS applies to all users, and since it is the only way to change the layout, this can cause problems in large organisations with differerent types of users?
    It is no longer possible to change the layout with the _po variable in the url, so the iAS is the only place,  or am I missing someting?

    Yeah, I agree that you should be able to "brand" Discoverer with a different look and feel based on what site or applicaiton your coming in as, however, it isn't an option in the current releases. You can perform a separate Oracle home installation and create a different Oracle cluster in 10gR2 and that might resolve your branding problems, I haven't tried it myself but I dont see a reason why you couldn't do it that way. Just a word of warning, even if you do this there is still no way to separate private and public connections from "branded" sites.

  • BUG: Wrong column name in View Object

    Hello,
    I've had this happen several times to me. I added an Entity Object to a View Object in the VO Wizard. I then went to the "Query" section and hit "Test" to test the SQL code generated by the VO Wizard. The test failed because the wizard had added an equality test (table1.col1 = table2.col2) to the WHERE part which used the wrong table name.
    It is possible to manually fix this by putting the correct table name in the query, but you'd have to do this every time you make a change to the View Object.
    What I did was to rebuild the View Object from scratch, and this time it correctly generated the SQL query. I was able to add some more Entity Objects, but then it happened again. This is really irritating because my View Object is fairly complex and it takes quite some time to remake it.
    I can't give instructions on how to reproduce this because it only happens every so often. It would save a lot of frustration if someone could fix it though.
    Hariolf

    Hi Hariolf,
    I was able to build this scenario and test the query with success. Here is the sql for the view object I created
    from the following entities:
    RootEO one to many association with Entity01
    with Entity02
    with Entity03
    Entity01 one to many association with Entity04
    All objects are included in the view object, here is the resulting generated sql:
    SELECT RootEO.ROOTID,
    RootEO.ATTR,
    Entity01.EO1ID,
    Entity01.ROOTID AS ROOTID1,
    Entity04.EO4ID,
    Entity04.ATTR AS ATTR1,
    Entity02.EO2ID,
    Entity02.ROOTID AS ROOTID2,
    Entity03.EO3ID,
    Entity03.ROOTID AS ROOTID3
    FROM ROOTEO RootEO, EO1 Entity01, ENTITY04 Entity04, ENTITY02 Entity02, ENTITY03 Entity03
    WHERE (((RootEO.ROOTID = Entity01.ROOTID)AND (Entity01.EO1ID = Entity04.ATTR))AND
    (RootEO.ROOTID = Entity02.ROOTID))AND (RootEO.ROOTID = Entity03.ROOTID)
    Let me know if I need to retest using a different scenario. Also, what version of jdeveloper are you using?

    I've logged doc bug 2814172: BC4J GLOSSARY SHOULD HAVE ENTRIES FOR PASSIVATE AND ACTIVATE.
    For more information, you could read the "About Application Module Pooling" topic in the online documentation. Passivation is what happens when the application module's state is saved to the database - and activation happens when an application module instance retrieves passivated state from the database.

  • Changing SQL Query in View Object during runtime

    Hello everyone,
    I've got some problems with view objects which I dropped on my JSP page.
    1.)
    What I want to do is changing SQL query during running my application. I have view object based on select query: "SELECT * FROM DEPARTMENTS". And after clicking button (or something else) I want to change the query: "SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEES" and I want to see this changes in my JSP page. Setting the query and executing it doesn't work. How can i do it?
    2.)
    I want to create view object programmatically, but I don't know exactly how many columns / attributes it will have. If I know the names of the attributes it's ok, but i don't know it... So I've got function, its body is:
    Row rowForInsert = this.createRow();
    this.addDynamicAttribute("ParamName");
    rowForInsert.setAttribute("ParamName", "asda");
    this.insertRow(rowForInsert);
    but this code doesn't work (I can't see any changes on my JSP Page).

    Thank's a lot!
    But there's another thing to do which I can't deal with.
    I want to create view object in one jspx page, a I don't want to move to another.
    And this method doesn't work.
    What can I do?
    I've got following error (I'm using dynamic table, when I create view object first time it's ok, but when i want to create another, there's execption):

  • Problem occured when create a tree table for master-detail view objects using SQL queries?

    I am programming a tree table for master-detail view objects using SQL queries and these 2 view objects are not simple singel tables queries, and 2 complex SQL are prepared for master and view objects. see below:
    1. Master View object (key attribute is SourceBlock and some varaible bindings are used for this view object.)
    SELECT  cntr_list.SOURCE_BLOCK,
            sum(
             case when cntr_list.cntr_size_q = '20'
                  then cntr_list.cntr_qty
                  else 0 end ) as cntr20 ,
            sum(
             case when cntr_list.cntr_size_q = '40'
                  then cntr_list.cntr_qty
                  else 0 end ) as cntr40 ,

    3. I create a view link to create master-detail relationship for these 2 view objects.
    masterview.SourceBlock (1)->detailview.SourceBlock (*).
    4. I create a tree table using these 2 view objects with master-detail relationship.
    When I set default value for variable bindings of these 2 view objects and the matching records exist, tree table can work well. I can expand the master row to display detail row in UI.
    But I need to pass in dymamic parameter value for variable bindings of these 2 view objects, tree table cannnot work again. when I expand the master row and no detail row are displayed in UI.
    I am sure that I pass in correct parameter value for master/detail view objects and matching records exist.
    Managed Bean:
            DCIteratorBinding dc = (DCIteratorBinding)evaluteEL("#{bindings.MasterView1Iterator}");
            ViewObject vo = dc.getViewObject();
            System.out.println("Before MasterView1Iterator vo.getEstimatedRowCount()="+ vo.getEstimatedRowCount());
            System.out.println("Before MasterView1Iterator ShiftModeCode="+ vo.ensureVariableManager().getVariableValue("ShiftModeCode"));
            vo.ensureVariableManager().setVariableValue("DateFrom", dateFrom);
            vo.ensureVariableManager().setVariableValue("DateTo", dateTo);
            vo.ensureVariableManager().setVariableValue("ShiftModeCode", shiftModeC);
            vo.ensureVariableManager().setVariableValue("TerminalCode", terminalCode);
            vo.executeQuery();
            System.out.println("MasterView1Iterator vo.getEstimatedRowCount()="+ vo.getEstimatedRowCount());
            DCIteratorBinding dc1 = (DCIteratorBinding)evaluteEL("#{bindings.DetailView1Iterator}");
            ViewObject vo1 = dc1.getViewObject();
            System.out.println("Before DetailView1Iterator vo1.getEstimatedRowCount()="+ vo1.getEstimatedRowCount());
            System.out.println("Before DetailView1Iterator ShiftModeCode="+ vo1.ensureVariableManager().getVariableValue("ShiftModeCode"));
            vo1.ensureVariableManager().setVariableValue("DateFrom", dateFrom);
            vo1.ensureVariableManager().setVariableValue("DateTo", dateTo);
            vo1.ensureVariableManager().setVariableValue("ShiftModeCode", shiftModeC);
            vo1.ensureVariableManager().setVariableValue("TerminalCode", terminalCode);
            vo1.executeQuery();
            System.out.println("after DetailView1Iterator vo1.getEstimatedRowCount()="+ vo1.getEstimatedRowCount());
    5.  What's wrong in my implementation?  I don't have no problem to implement such a tree table if using simple master-detail tables view object, but now I have to use such 2 view objects using complex SQL for my requirement and variable bindings are necessary for detail view object although I also think a bit strange by myself.

    Hi Frank,
    Thank you and it can work.
    public void setLowHighSalaryRangeForDetailEmployeesAccessorViewObject(Number lowSalary,
                                                                              Number highSalary) {
            Row r = getCurrentRow();
            if (r != null) {
                RowSet rs = (RowSet)r.getAttribute("EmpView");
                if (rs != null) {
                    ViewObject accessorVO = rs.getViewObject();
                    accessorVO.setNamedWhereClauseParam("LowSalary", lowSalary);
                    accessorVO.setNamedWhereClauseParam("HighSalary", highSalary);
                executeQuery();
    but I have a quesiton in this way. in code snippet, it is first getting current row of current master VO to determine if update variables value of detail VO. in my case, current row is possibly null after executeQuery() of master VO and  I have to change current row manually like below.
    any idea?
                DCIteratorBinding dc = (DCIteratorBinding)ADFUtil.evaluateEL("#{bindings.SSForecastSourceBlockView1Iterator}");
                ViewObject vo = dc.getViewObject();
                vo.ensureVariableManager().setVariableValue("DateFrom", dateFrom);
                vo.ensureVariableManager().setVariableValue("DateTo", dateTo);
                vo.ensureVariableManager().setVariableValue("ShiftModeCode", shiftModeC);
                vo.ensureVariableManager().setVariableValue("TerminalCode", terminalCode);
                vo.executeQuery();
                vo.setCurrentRowAtRangeIndex(0);
                ((SSForecastSourceBlockViewImpl)vo).synchornizeAccessorVOVariableValues();

  • How to change sql expression of SQL-Calculated Attribute of view object ?

    Hi
    jdev 11.1.1.5
    I have a view object with a SQL-Calculated Attribute (sumAnalytic) how can I change sql expression of this attribute in runtime?
    for example in application module method??

    Hi Mr Timo
    Thanks for your reply but I do not need dynamic vo because I can not change all of my vo
    I only need to change expression of SQL-Calculated Attribute of view object in run time.
    For this I set expression in view object something like this 'select 2 from dual' and in run time in my AM method I get the vo query and replace 'select 2 from dual' with something like 'selet sum(amnt) over (partition by 1)' and set new query.
    But I think the better solution must exist
    Thanks

  • Changing the query on a view object

    I have a view object right now, based on an entity. It is the default view object, so that means the query in the view object is straight forward, it grabs all of the attributes from the table. And there is no WHERE clause.
    In reality I only want to show a finite set of rows from my table. Every time a record is changed/edited in this entity and committed, a new row in the database is created with the same information (I'm using CreateWithParams) except for a few columns.
    I actually don't really have update on this table, just creation of new rows. But to the user, I want it to 'look' like they are editing something in the table.
    Example:
    12, 11:32,Thompson, 60 (the user edits this information in an adf table, and a new row is created in the db)
    12, 11:55, Thompson, 75
    I have a timestamp (see above) field in the database that is used as part of my primary key, so that I know which record is the latest.
    When the VO query is run, I want the user to only see the latest row from the db.
    12, 11:55, Thompson, 75
    So...
    I went to my VO, and I changed the WHERE query to add this:
    where t1.TimeStamp = (Select MAX(t2.TimeStamp) FROM rcl.x t2 where t1.uid = t2.uid);
    Now, this isn't a mysql/sql question. There's actually a better query that I'd rather run, but the VO editor doesn't allow me to change the query itself....
    When I save the new WHERE to my VO, run my page again, I get the expected result (showing me only the latest records).
    However, when I try and sort on the table in which my data is displayed, I am now getting ORDER BY errors.
    I don't want my VO to be read-only sql based. I want to be able to update my table, so I have my VO running off of the entity.
    Why doesn't the VO allow me to change the query itself? (Like do a subquery, instead of having my where clause do the work)
    Why are order by errors being thrown when I sort on my adf table after changing the where clause in my view?
    Hopefully I wasn't too convoluted in the explanation of my problem..
    Thanks in advance,
    Joel

    HI Joe,
    Regarding your problem you can do one of the following tasks:
    1- easily to tuning on your view object, I mean in the tuning page of the view you can set that only return 1 record or 2-3 record fetch not all the record.
    in the order by you will order by the timestamp field and descending.
    2- you can order by the timestamp descending and in the where clause only set the rownum<2 (will return the last record) you can also set rownum<5 and get the 4 last record etc.
    3-editing the view query in the expert mode is not advised at all because of many consequences that you will face.
    4- maybe it is not bat that you add a readonly view for the table you mentioned and every time you unpdate the entity just re-execute the read-only view.( this method maybe is good maybe is not it depends on your business logic)
    Regards.
