Changes in Vertical Lines Across Hidden Sections

I have quite a few reports designed in CR 8.5 primarily by someone else but modified by me over the years.  The original programmer created two page footers.  PFa is to print when there are multiple pages except on the last page (set to underlay sections), and PFb to print only on the last page or first page if there is only one page.  The report in this example is an invoice that could be multiple pages or one page.  PFa will show Continued.... as part of the footer on all but the last page.  The last page will show the total.
The original design has vertical lines extending from the page header to a horizontal line in PFb.  For a one-page report, this works just fine.
When printing multiple page reports, there is a little section that does not have a line in PFa.  So it has been filled in with a second line over the previous line and it extends from the top of PFa to the horizontal line in that section.  This also works fine in CR8.5.  This worked fine in CR XIR2 as well.
I am creating a new viewer that I would like to support current versions of Crystal.  So recently I installed the CR for VS ver 9.  Now my CRXIR2 and CR2011 standalone programs show lines extending to the bottom of the page over PFa on a multipage invoice.  PFb shows properly on the last page.
I am pretty sure when I was using CR for VS version 4 it did not do this (last week), but I cannot remember if I had tested a multipage invoice at that time.  Now that I have upgraded it appears the handling of the lines is different.  I am testing the reports and they are all showing up differently now.  The image attached shows the idea.  The vertical lines should stop at the top horizontal line except for the one on the right which should stop at the bottom horizontal line.
I know there are other and probably better ways to program this but I inherited this stuff and am trying to find a way to not edit all the possible reports that have this problem (could be hundreds).  Does anyone know if this is an intended design change or if there is a workaround I can use?  My viewer is being programming in VB 2010 but the image attached is just from CR 2011 (CRXIR2 does the same thing now).  The second image attached is the original from CR8.5 which still works because I assume, it is using a different print engine before the change in CR version 9.
Any help is appreciated.  TIA, rasinc

Hi Jamie,
Sorry for the delayed response but I have been out of the office since Wed.
Are you saying that I just need to change the programming of the lines in the CR designer?  If so, I had already done that in the same manner as you had suggested before.  eg. don't let the lines cross a section.  Terminate the line at the first section (pfa), then fill it in after, in the lower section (pfb).
If that is what you meant, I have done that with one to prove it is a solution.  This will work for me directly, however, the viewer will be distributed to people who may or may not be buying the CR program.  For those who buy it, they can modify their forms as they please if it is a problem for them.
However, there will be many people continuing to use the CR 8.5 forms in this newer viewer.  These people may have to have this problem fixed and may not know it can be redesigned.  So I am trying to be proactive to figure out if I can solve it with my programming but it looks like it is a difference as part of the CR viewer dlls between CR8.5 and CR2011.
If you think it is still something that can be adjusted in my programming somehow, I can give you a screenshot but I am thinking your thought was to change the line programming with the designer.  If so, I know how to do this, but I have never seen and do not have access to many rpts that will be affected.
Thanks again for the help, I appreciate it. rasinc

  • Coloured vertical lines across screen - logicboard?

my pbook is 26 months old. I had the screen replaced under the exchange program recently but it wouldn't seem that this is the root of my intermittent problem.
it started about 4 days ago - the screen had what looked like a pattern of yellow vertical stitching in regular intervals across the screen - the error repeats itself until the screen is quite busy with yellow stitching. yellow on top of white but sometimes magenta on top of the blue desktop. however, it doesn't always stay there. I close some windows and refresh that part of the screen and it can revert back to the normal desktop/ dock / folder appearance. I though it might be a screen connection issue but I think that's been ruled out by taking a screenshot and that showing the corruption. I've run disk utility and disk warrior and neither can find any problem. the issue is a little random when it strikes (but has happened more regularly when connected to the internet/mail) but more randomly it goes away and the actual working of the machine doesn't yet seem affected. also, actually applying gentle physical pressure or movement can make the lines disappear only to reappear later. (a bit like when your radio isn't tuned in and by touching the dial the reception gets stronger only to go back to being a sh1te reception when you take your hand off the dial!)
would there be any value in me doing a clean re-install or resetting anything if only to confirm that it's hardware rather than software - before I join the living torment of a repair waiting list?
please look at my screen shot

  • Dropped my iPhone 4s and now there are lines across the screen?! Help!

    Hey everyone!
So, I have recently dropped my iPhone 4S and now there are all these blue vertical lines across the screen, which occasionally change colour also.
I am still able to receive messages and calls, and siri still works, it's simply that I can't see a single thing I am doing- which is very difficult!
I was wondering if this is an issue that needs to be fixed at an Apple store- and if so, how much it would cost? Or if I would be able to fix it myself somehow.
N.B: I've tried to reset it, it doesn't work. I have also tried to restore the iPhone, but iTunes won't let me do this as I have to have the 'find my iPhone' app turned off, which I cannot do because I can't see anything I'm doing!
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions,
    Kirstoodles.

Yes. It's broken. A replacement will cost you $199.
Or if I would be able to fix it myself somehow.
The iPhone is not user servicable. Apple does not sell parts for the iPhone. any parts you could get are either stolen, counterfeit, or salvaged.  Atempting to fix it yourself will render it unsupportable and forfeit your right to service from Apple, including an out of warranty replacement.

  • Thin vertical lines appearing on screen, since wakeup from sleep mode.

My Mac G5, 2GHz, DVD-R, 1GB DDR RAM, OSX 10.4.10, ATI RADEON X800 XT has recently developed a display issue. On start-up the screen shows vertical lines across the entire screen. The colors of theses lines is varying from green to black, depending of the background color. The lines are appearing from the grey loading screen and when a profile is logged in.
Shutting down and restarting doesn't cure the problem, nor does staring in safe mode nor starting up from an install CD. I also tried re-installing the operating system, but I get the same result. I tried another monitor but I also get the lines on screen. I verified all the cables and that the graphic card is well in place in the pci slot.
If I change the resolution, I also get thoses lines but they change place on screen. Also, if I set the colors level to 256 colors, I get very little single lines but If I set the color level to the highest (36,7 Millions), the lines appears in group of 5+ and are all over the screen.
I tried taking a screenshot using the shortcut cmd-shift-3 and I can see the line in the pictures. Also, if I take a screenshot of a window that is behind the window in the front ( using cmd-shift-4-space ), I dont see the line on the screen shot.
I started to have this problem when my mac was woke up from sleep mode and the problem has persisted since then.
I guess my problem is the graphic card but I would like an external opinion before I got buy another one.
    Thanks

    Any new results?
I'm having the same issue. Looks like this, but at a slight angle and different RGB colors (almost like JPG artifacting).
Started this evening after a cold boot. I just put my X800 XT Mac G5 edition in 2 weeks ago. No real heavy use either, as I've been gone for a week.
Looks to me like bad VRAM (according to TechTool Deluxe). I'm running the AHT now and will hopefully come to a final conclusion soon. I did test my 20" Apple monitor (DVI) with my laptop and there was no problem...so it is definitely the video card. Not sure if the aforementioned ATI ROM extender will fix it or not.
Much luck to all of us who are having this problem.

there are gray vertical lines across my mac book, what do I do?

  • My macbook pro keeps freezing with vertical lines on the screen

I have a 2010 macbook pro that has worked wonderfully until now.  As of late it keeps freezing with vertical lines across the screen.  To me this indicates a hardware problem, but I ran a diagnostic (restarted while holding D) and it didn't find any errors.  It seems that it happens when I move or bump my macbook, leading me to think it may possibly be a disk problem, but I'm not sure how to check this.  Anybody else ever have this problem or could suggest a fix for it?

You can try a pram reset, which might help with the display, but the bumoing thing is what concerns me.
    PRAM reset:
Power down, power back up and hold the following keys before the start up chime.
option, command, P, R,(no commas) continue to hold these keys till you hear the start up chime 2 times then release.
Reboot see if this helps, the bumping part scares me.
    Hope this helps

  • IPhone 6 vertical lines in screen

My iPhone 6 is new out of the box less than 12 hours ago, immediately it had a thin gray line running from top to bottom and now this morning there are two of them that come and go as they please (more coming than going). tried resetting it completely, tried the home/power button reset and got nothing :-( can anyone help me out? Brand new phone I want it to work right

Thanks to those of you who have responded. It is just frustrating because I absolutely love this phone. I just was shocked to see these ever changing colored vertical lines and sometimes just light grayish stripes throughout my screen. They come and go. Constantly changing, sometimes disappearing and then showing up again in a different app or simply when I pick up my phone after leaving it sit. The problem is where to start? I'm thinking straight to the nearest Apple Store on Monday morning.

  • White screen with vertical lines when opening.

My laptop has recently started showing a white screen with different colored vertical lines across it when opening the lid. It doesn't happen all the time but often enough to be concerning. If you close the lid and open again 95% of the time everything is good - with another try or two we can always get it back. There aren't any flickers or anything like that while using it. It sounds to me like a potential connection or short in the wiring. Am I on the right track? Thanks Donny

well i went to the apple store and went to the genius bar, they didn't tell me what caused my problem or what happened but they replaced my iphone! hopefully this doesn't happen again

  • Qosmio G30: blue vertical lines and blue screen crash dump

    I have a Qosmio G30, Model No. PQG32C-AV605E with BIOS Version 3.40.
I want to update to 3.90 but I cannot enter Windows.
How do I update BIOS with no Windows available?
    Is there a DOS utility?
If so, please send it and I will download it or send me an email on where to download.
The G30 I have has blue vertical lines across the screen when the machine starts up in VGA mode upon entering Windows for the first time.
But the machine can't enter windows, it crashes and dumps and restarts before that.
I replaced the RAM with new RAM but it had no effect.
I ran the diagnostics utility and the hard drives are OPTIMAL in RAID 1 so no errors there.
The reinstall of Windows went smoothly: I just can't get into VGA mode without lines.
I was told by Toshiba tech support that a BIOS upgrade would fix it.
    Thanks for any helps.

I made best experience with Toshiba support. The ASP guys were always helpful
I can understand that you are upset but this is cannot be a explanation for you last replay
Fact is that you can update the BIOS ONLY running windows OS because you can download ONLY win-based BIOS!
If you are not able to do this (no matter why) then you will need to get in contact with local ASP (service provider) in your country who could update the BIOS using a traditional BIOS version.
But in my personal opinion the vertical lines are not related to any BIOS issue and I think a BIOS update would not help you in my opinion its more hardware issue as an software issue.
Therefore you should get in contact with an local ASP in order to discover what's part is affected.
    Good luck

  • Multiple different colored vertical lines all over screen?

I have quite a few different color vertical lines across my screen. They are yellow, purple, blue, green etc. It started with just one or two and now there is probably close to 75, some tightly grouped and others here and there. Can anyone tell me what it is? Is my video card going out or something? Is there anything I can do to stop it?
    Thanks

    Hi all
I have a single red vertical line down the very left edge of the screen of my 2006 17" MacBook Pro. It has appeared over the last day or so and is there most of the time, although it occasionally disappears for a short while.
Do you think this could be a similar issue?
    Thanks very much.

  • Thin vertical line running across my screen ...

Out of nowhere I suddenly have a thin vertical line (yellow/blue - depending on background) running across my screen. Restarting didn't help, turning on the computer and pressing command, option, p, r didn't help either.
Anyone got a clue? I would so hate to send it in for repair

it did need repair ... ;-/. But they fixed it within 24hrs.

  • I have vertical lines when printing even after changing cartridges.

I have vertical lines when printing even after changing cartridges. There are no lines when copying, faxing or scanning, only printing. I have cleaned the glass, scanner and even dusted where the toner cartride slides in.  Any suggestions?

Sorry but I have worked on laser printers for over 20 years and never encountered your issue.  That is of course if you are explaining it correctly.  When you make a copy to be printed or print a reports page from the printer or send a print job to the printer, if in all these cases you get the line, then yes the issue is either the toner cartridge or the fuser.  If you make a copy to be printed and it prints without the line (Put original in adf, press copy button and print should come out), then you have one weird unit since it does not make sense since the print formatter on the unit whether making a copy or printing from the computer or unit itself uses the same hardware.  Now to test if the printed copy has a line then just put a sheet of paper on top of the feed tray and do a self test from the printer.  When the back edge of the paper enters the printer, quickly open the toner door to stop the printing.  Remove the toner cartridge and look at the image below.  If the defect is present the toner cartridge is the issue and if the image below does not have the defect, then the fuser needs to be replaced.  Best I can do.  Good Luck.

  • Cant enter LCD Bist. Have Loads of Changing vertical lines on lcd screen.

I have classical problem on Pavilion DV6 laptop with LDC-problems. Screen is full of vertical lines changing with each frame.
Different forums advice to try  a BIST TEST. but cant enter. Not by starting while holding "fn" or "D". What to do?

    BangL,
Try updating your graphics driver and BIOS version. Here are the drivers for your computer, install the graphics driver first then once that has completed do the BIOS.  When you update the BIOS please have the AC adapter plugged in throughout the process.
When you do the BIOS install, do version F.21 dated 09-27-2011. Once that is done see if the lines still show.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.

  • Can the position of a vertical line object be changed in run time

    Post Author: KennyG
    CA Forum: General
I added some vertical line objects into my report in design mode, but the position of them can't be determined until the run time. So I have to change the position dynamically, such as "  lineObject.Left = 200; ........" . But I'm confronted with an exception, System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException, and it says that " The line object's coordinates are not valid. Only vertical or horizontal lines are supported.". Finally, can the position of a vertical line object be changed in run time? if can, how to do it??
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
