Changing drive letter for Ipod Touch

I have an Ipod Touch stuck in an endless loop of recovery mode. The solution seems to be to change the drive letter assigned to the Ipod touch. My problem is that my Ipod never shows up in the list of devices attached to my computer. Thus, I don't have the ability to change the drive letter.
Any idea what I can do to change this?

I don't know where you got that idea from, but it can't be correct. The "drive letter" refers to any device that Windows sees - that it can access (hard drives, memory keys, printers etc.). To actually access the device, Windows assigns the device with the first drive letter that Windows has available. But since the iPod Touch does not have memory that is accessible by Windows, there will not be a drive letter assigned. (The Touch is accessed by iTunes, not Windows. Someone is probably going to argue with me about that because of the "camera roll" on the Touch and so on, but basically, no drive letter is assigned.)
So let's examine the actual problem you have. What do you mean by "an endless loop"? What does your iPod do, or not do - what do you see on the screen?
Usually, if my iPod Touch plays up, it's either that an App closes unexpectedly or it seems to take three minutes to get past the Apple logo if I have to re-start the iPod. If it were to just keep repeating the same thing over and over, (such as staying on the logo, or re-starting the logo procedure), I would wait for the battery to run down and then connect it to power. Once the battery is run down, whatever is keeping it in a loop would stop (because there's no power) and when power is restored, the first thing an iPod will (or should) do is reset everything back to the start. In other words, it would not stay in a loop.
So what do you see on the screen - what symptoms are there?

  • Change drive letter for Nano

I have an Ipod Nano, 2nd generation. The problem is that this is the second nano of the same type to be connected to my PC running Windows XP. The computer does not recognize the second nano. I would like to format my nano (FAT32) and give it a different drive letter.
    Thanks

    Hi:
If you change the drive letter of the recovery drive, if you need to run the recovery program it won't work, because it is set to look for drive D as the recovery partition and drive C as the drive to be reformatted and recovered.
I would make as set of recovery DVD's ASAP if you choose to change the drive letter anyway.
Then you can use those to recover from.
There will be another issue though, and that is the recovery DVD's create a new recovery partition, and guess what drive letter it will end up on.
So, if I were you, I would label my secondary HDD E:\

  • Change Apple ID for iPod Touch

I have an iPhone 5 and an iPod Touch having the same Apple ID.  I want to change the Apple ID on the iPod but don't want to lose the Apps.  Can anyone help me?  I am new to Apple products.

Trying to follow the directions for changing my apple id on my itouch.  I can't signout under settings.  It just wants me to give a password for the old account.  I do I get out of that and sign out in order to sign back in under the new apple id.  All due to a change in e-mails.  I've successfully changed the apple id which works for 3 other products in the house:  ipad, mac pro and desktop type mac.
When I look at my account in the manage Devices, it has 3 devices associated with the Apple ID and does not list the itouch.  It wont' allow me to add a device in this region.
HELP?  My itouch helps me to go to sleep at night with hypnosis that is needed from a nasty concussion, so this is a big deal.  I would like to back it up on iCloud but have never been able to.  I've also hooked up my ipod to my mac pro to try to change in one of the tabs offered there and no luck.
    Any help is really appreciated.
    Nanoook!

  • Change home computer for Ipod touch

My son has Ip an ipod touch, (purchased last year xmas 2009) think its the 3rd gen. When he got it we had a different computer which he initially logged as his home computer. This has since broke and we brought him a new laptop for xmas. I have authorised this laptop but I am unable to access the apps properly through Itunes. I want to be able to manage them, delete etc but I am unable. Can anybody advise how I can change the home computer to the new laptop so as I can properly manage the apps on the ipod??? Thanks

Transfer the apps from the ipod to the computer. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
Ipod touch will sync with one computer at a time. When you sync to another, it will erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.
Move everything from your backup copy of the old computer to the new one first.

  • How to change video format for iPod touch

please can anyone tell me how to convert my .avi files to the format that will play on my iPod touch!
I've managed to convert a couple in iTunes but the rest of the files won't import to iTunes so I can't use that converter!
I've also tried something called MPEG streamclip but that keeps telling me there's an invalid frame rate and won't work!
Any ideas please, the only reason I bought the 32gb was so I could watch my videos!
    Thanks

On a MAC use iSquint to do your conversion. Get it from version tracker. It's free and fantastic. It will also convert flash (.flv) and .mov files.
One thing to remember is that the default is video scaled for the iPod Classic/video which is smaller than the iPoT. So the settings should be "Optimize for iPod" Quality "High" "H.264 Encoding" then select "advanced" enter 480 in the width and whatever pixel height is required to keep the aspect ratio the same as the original .avi movie. e.g.:
    496 x 272 = 480 x 264
    512 x 208 = 480 x 196
    512 x 216 = 480 x 203
    512 x 288 = 480 x 271
    528 x 288 = 480 x 260

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. If under warranty, as you say (the warranty is transferable) and not abused Apple will exchange it at no cost.

  • Should i let my ipod touch have a full charge whenever i connect it to a computer for itunes

    Hi
I would like to know if i should always let my ipod touch get a full charge whenever i connect it to a computer. For example when i just want to add a few songs during the day and my ipod has just half the battery left. And is normal to get a full charge in just to hours (ipod touch 4g)? It defInately shows a plug and not a lightning sign.
When i got my ipod touch i didnt let it charge to a full charge when i connected it to itunes in the beginning. Does that affect my ipods battery life?
    Thanks for any help

No, that's no necessary and it won't effect the life of the battery.

  • I recently changed my Apple ID online, but I can't find a way to change it on my iPod touch. It will let me change the password, but not the ID. What do I do? Do I need to delete the account and start over?

I recently changed my Apple ID online, but I can't find a way to change it on my iPod touch. When I try to purchse an app, the iTouch keeps showing my old ID. However, when I purchase an app online with the new ID, it downloads to my iPod. What do I do to change the ID on the iPod itself?

Have you went to Settings>Store and sign out and sign back in?

  • How can i purchase iPhone OS 3.0 for iPod Touch 2G ?

My Local iTune Store (Thailand) don't have iPhone OS 3.0 for iPod Touch.
How can i purchase iPhone OS 3.0 for iPod Touch 2G ?

What they have written to you is wrong.
That download was available at all the online stores: if you looked at the main page of the Thai app store at the time it was released (and for a couple of weeks after) it clearly displayed a 3.0 update advertisement. I was able to update a 3G iPhone and a first generation iPod touch using my account on the Thai app store.
Are you accessing the iTunes store, using iTunes (or the Thai online store at http://store.apple.com/th)? It is the one using iTunes that you need.
What you need to do to download this, is to connect your iPod touch to the computer (your details do not say which computer or OS you use) and in the iTunes panel that opens, there is a button to check for updates (although the update may appear by itself). If this still reports that it is unavilable, let me know and I will ask someone.
You will not be able to change your account, but there is nothing to prevent you setting up a new account in the US as long as (for purchasing) you use a US credit card.

  • How to create backup file on itunes for ipod touch 4g game apps data? Is there a way to do it? I want to try an app on my friend's computer, but you can't add apps on another computer without having your own ipod's data being deleted. Thx for any help!

I want to know how to create a backup file (because I'm pretty new with itunes, and it's hard to use it for me still), how to store my app data/media/videos, etc. And how I can retrieve them back when I'm done with the app I tried on my friend's computer.
If anyone can help, it'd be great! Thank you so much!

Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac.  You should be able to set a password for it. Save it.  Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer,  I suppose,  back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity.  As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro
you should be able to sync your phone on your new MacBook Pro. Don't know if you can move the older backups yet-maybe try someone else, anyways,
This handy article from Apple explains how
How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support''
don't forget to de-authorize your iMac if you don't want to play purchased stuff there
and re-authorize your new macBook Pro
time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine  and go for it.  You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups  of your stuff.

  • Changed Drive Letter Still In Restore Loop

I have an iPod mini (2nd Gen) that is in the restore loop and I have changed the drive letter. I am using Windows XP. I can read and write to the iPod. I have tried it (changing drive letter and restore) on another computer and with iTunes 10 and iTunes 8. Can anyone please help?

ok over 100 people have look at this and on one has an answer to suggest?
Some one must know what is going on.
Does anyone have the files that belong on the hard drive of the mini? I think that is all that is needed for iTunes to recognize the mini.

  • Computer has different name than Itunes for Ipod Touch

I have an Ipod Touch 4th Generation 32gb. I have had no problems with it or with Itunes. My Mom came last Saturday to visit and she needed to charge her Ipod Touch so I hooked it to my computer where I always have a cord and charged it for about 45 minutes or so. I have no problem with my Ipod or with Itunes BUT when I go look at the device now on my computer, when it is connected to USB cord, it show "Marys Ipod" now instead of "Steves Ipod". In Itunes, it is still "Steves Ipod" and I can sync and all but I really want to get rid of "Marys Ipod" off my computer even though when I open it up, it is my ipod, just mislabed. I know because it has my pictures and her's is only 8gb. My Ipad2, is fine when I hook it up to the USB cord, It says "Steves Ipad" but when I hook my USB cord to my ipod touch, it still reads "Marys Ipod". Is this something I should be concerned about or is it not worth the hassle of trying to restore, etc? I have tried to change the name, but Windows won't allow. I do have Windows 7. I have also got the new update on Itunes and the new software(5.0) version.
I am stumped. I have googled this and have searched for over 3 hours today on how to fix this. Ready to bang my head against the wall. I have did a reboot on Ipod, I have restarted the computer. I have not reinstalled anything including Itunes.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? I would sure appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

I just found the answer to this after hours of searching online. Make sure your iPod is hooked up to your computer & turned on.
Click on "Start" and in the search box type "regedit". This will display a program called "Registry Editor". Open it.
Click on the "Edit" tab and select "Find...". Type "Mary" in the search box and click "Find Next". It will bring up a list of everything that has "Mary" in it. (You may have to click on "Find next" under the "Edit" tab in order to find the associated items that have something to do with both "iPod" and "Mary".) What you need to pay attention to is not the NAME, but the DATA column. For me, the wrong iPod name was listed in 2 places in the data column. The actual names of those 2 items were "FriendlyName" and "Label".
Once you find the associated items that have to do with both the iPod and "Mary", right click on one of them. Select "Modify...". A box will open giving a "Value Name" box and a "Value Data" box. The "Value Data" box should say "Mary's iPod". All you have to do is change it to "Steve's iPod" and click "OK". Repeat the "Modify..." and renaming of the "Value Data" steps for every item that says something about "Mary's iPod".
Close the Registry Editor. Open "my computer" and see that it changed the name of your iPod back to "Steve's iPod".
Best Answer So far.....it really works...Thanks a million
