Changing my administrator account...

Hi, I am currently using my account as an administrator. ( I know this is a no-no) How can i change this without causing an issue?

Joe,
I think this would be an acceptable procedure, but I'm not entirely sure, so maybe you should wait until someone else confirms this.
Create a new Admin account.
Test that account to make sure it is properly configured and fully functional.
Then use the instructions here Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Restricting what users can do with the computer, to change the limitations of the original account.
And Thank You, for extending the courtesy, of awarding stars in Discussions!

• Change j2ee administrator account

In a SAP netweaver 04 portal installation, is it possible and/or advisable to change the j2ee administrator account from the well known "administrator" user? By this I mean having a user other than "administrator" or "j2ee_admin" that has j2ee administration rights and is the id pointed at by configuration tool secure store. This user needs to be used in visual administrator, sapinst (and jspm at SAP netweaver 2004s), etc.
Is this possible? Is it adviable?

Hi Ken,
why do you want to do this?
Normally it is possible to change the user name und password of those users.
But at some strange places, maybe some things will not work as expected. So I would not do this.
Anyway it should work.
But, for example in the EP 7.0 the Support Platform administration there is an hardcoded check for the Administrator group. (which is more of a bug, than a feature).
I just mention this to say: probably nobody can promise, that you don`t run into problems when using another user. But in case of problems I think you still will get support, because it is possible to change these users...

• Change password in my administrator account

I have a HP Envy23 from around 2 years. I'm trying to install new software, but i forgot the password of my administrator account and i haven't access to new installations. How can I eliminate or change my administrator account or change that password?

If you've forgotten your Windows password and you're on a domain, you should contact your system administrator to reset your password. If you're not on a domain, you can reset your password by using a password reset disk or by using an administrator account. If you forget the administrator password and don't have a password reset disk or another administrator account, you won't be able to reset the password. If there are no other user accounts on the computer, you won't be able to log on to Windows and will need to re-install Windows. Note: Please reply to this post and let us know if you have setup any Security Questions during the Product Registration Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,K N R KAlthough I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP

• Former Employee Obtained access to Administrator Account somehow and has been messing with roles, files ect... Just a question...

Ok, so about six months ago, my company let go of their Systems Administrator because she was causing many problems in the workplace... Yesterday morning i logged onto the server and found several files open with her name on them, including her confidentiality
agreement, and Employment offer letter, as well as the confidential folder that holds all employees personal identity information (she remote into the Server about 10 Minutes before i logged in, thus kicking her off not allowing her to close what she was opening/copying.
I attempted to check the logs to see what IP she was connecting with but was only able to find the following:
She remoted into the server about through Remote Desktop about 20 times on the 27th of May 2014, (horrible weather and she was probably logging in in a McDonald's Wifi and it kept kicking her off).
I took the day off because my area was flooded and couldnt make it to work.
She logged on, on the 28th of May, 2014 about 16 times before i logged on kicking her off, leaving everything she was doing open for me to see.
Everytime i remote into the server from my house or the office i get the following...

As you can see no IP address is shown unlike everyone other PC that remotes into the server... She has been using our server as her personal file host for her real estate business, she was fired last year for sabotaging AutoCad drawings her ex boyfriend
was working on (they are back together and was the one she set up with full access to server) and she has been adding and modifying files in her group drive via the administrator account. She also disabled several roles we had installed, and gave her
boyfriend (who happens to work at the company) More administrator right than myself, as I built the server from ground up, and Only the Company owners had access to remote desktop, besides the administrator account... I want to make sure she didn't create
any hidden accounts that she can still log into.. I found under ADSI Edit Under Domain Controllers, Subscription Properties an account (servername$) which doesn't not show up in active directory, but had full access to everything... Is there a way to uncover
hidden Accounts she may have created to get into the server, as I've know from previous experiences, that $ sign normally refers to a hidden account or file of some sort.. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, The FBI is currently investigating
the situation, but i am trying to make sure all my basis are covered so this doesn't happen again... Thank you for taking the time to read my long ass thread, I will bestow upon you great fortune and Karma for any help given =-D

Hello,
the $ behind the machine name object is normal.
For security related questions please use
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/home?forum=winserversecurity
Also I would immediately remove all people form any kind of administrative groups, MUST of course be agreed from the company owner, then change the administrator account password. If there is a need for the additional administrators the company chief
has to agree on this and there should also be made some clear rules, maybe from a lawyer about consequences etc. Remote access to the network should be blocked or made more secure with two factor authentication, tokens for example, just using Remote Desktop
at the moment I would not allow until the network is better secured and you can be sure there are no unknown administrative accounts.

• DLU and local "Administrator" account

I have another network admin that has given me some information of the
subject heading that I don't quite understand...
They are using ZEN 3.2 with DLU on a Citrix server. This way, when a
student logs in via Citrix and gets logged in, ZEN policies restrict
them to what they can and cannot do on the local machine. Since they
need elevated rights to the registry (for whatever reason), they use
the "Administrator" account and are members of the "Administrator"
group on the local machine.
I simply don't understand it...When I use DLU (on workstations mind
you), I have the following for the policy...
================================================== =======
Enable DLU
Manage Existing User Account (if any)
Use eDirectory Credentials
Nothing underneath for the username, but they are members of "Users"
================================================== =======
His configuration is as follows...
================================================== =======
Enable DLU
Manage Existing User Account (if any)
Username: Administrator
Member of: Administrators, Users
================================================== =======
He tells me that with this config when a student logs in, they
automatically use the local "administrator" account. That's what I
don't get.
My config makes a new user on the workstation if they haven't logged
into the machine before. I thought at times it would be handy to make
3 accounts locally, such as "Staff" "Student" and "Administrator" for
instance, but didn't realize this config he talks about could make it
happen. Can it? I still don't get it at this point. I'm reading my
manuals and what-not and am not yet convinced.
What I'm hung up on is the password syncing. If I am logging in as
"bbinder" with a password of "hello" (NDS credentials) but the local
"administrator" password is "goodbye", why wouldn't it prompt me for
the administrator password since it's not the same as mine? There
isn't an "existing account" to manage in his config. This (I assume)
means it uses the account specified in the name field you can type in.
In his case, this is "administrator" as typed in above. But since the
passwords aren't the same, how does it use the local "administrator"
account? Does it overwrite the password? Does it create a new
administrator account and call it "administrator.001" ??? Not quite
getting it yet.
Anyone want to try and help me with this? Some people think there
would be some big benefits by having everyone use the local
"administrator" account, for instance because it has full rights to
the registry and file system. Plus, GP's will still be in effect, so
they would be locked out of the parts of the workstation you want to
lock them out of anyway.
Other advantages would include a "pre-made" user profile that has
already been secured and populated with the various things deemed
acceptable by the company's/school's policies.
Also, no delay on login when a new local account has to be created.
Since they are all using the same account being specified in the
policy, it would be nice and fast to login to.
Finally, no more prompting new users to enter in their names and
initials when MS Office apps run for the first time under a user
account. Maybe this could be avoided with a policy, but this would
suffice as well.
Sorry it's so long, but I appreciate any help you guys can offer to
clear this up for me.

• How to get administrator account again?

I have done something stupid -as you do-concerned with security I changed my administrator account type to user type thinking that my other user account would automatically become the admin account.
Now I have an unknown account [which could be Toshiba factory account] as the administrator which asks me for an unknown password for certain tasks etc.
Can anyone help me out with any suggestions other than restoring my computer back to its factory settings pleeeease?

YEAH I do not know why I have done this -BUT-
I do not have an account with admin priv. Windows was installed at the factory and after consulting and trying a few things with Windows support[at cost] it was suggested that the admin password prompt that appears is probably toshibas ALSO this account name is hidden from me all that appears is the password promt box when I go to change anything requiring admin. permission. Windows suggested transferring all my files etc. that I wanted to external device and then contact Toshiba to reset to factory settings I am trying to desperately avoid this- WHAT A MESS thanks for any input-

• Changing the guest account icon?

Hi, I let some friends of mine use my computer, so I let them go on the guest account. They decided to do a prank and made the account icon for the guest something quite unpleasant. I don't want to remove the guest account, but at the same time I really don't want that icon to be there. I have no idea what they did and System Preferences/Accounts lets me change my (administrator) account's icon, but the guest icon is just an unmodifiable silhouette.

• The new firefox changed my settings, i can only find my administrative account on my laptop, but i'm not logged in as the administrator.

I am trying to attach files from my user account on my laptop, but when I try to attach them inside a Firefox browser, it only allows me to look at the administrator account and the documents on there. I am not logged into my administrator account, because I obviously only use that for the administrative things on my computer. I'm not sure what to do to change this, I've looked through all of the settings in my new version of Firefox (3.6.11) and I can't find anywhere to change those settings. HELP ME, PLEASE!?

Check that you do not run Firefox as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
In the Compatibility tab, make sure that Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" is not selected.

A friend was playing around with the user settings on my macbook pro and somehow managed to remove the administrator account. There is currently only one user set up on the computer and it is 'standard'. Therefore, no updates or changes to settings of any kind can be made on my computer because there is no administrator to authenticate them! Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? • Cannot change anything in user account and family safety, even logging as an administrator account.

My 1st user account was an administrator account, 2nd user account was a standard account. 3rd user account was a guest account of window 8 single language, however i accidentally made a mistake by setting guest account from standard account to become an
administrator account. I also set down the 1st user account from administrator to standard account and after these stupid settings, the guest account becomes administrator account anyone can access in without any password, the 1st and 2nd accounts become standard
accounts! Before this mistake, the 1st user account was the main account of mine, 2nd and 3rd (guest account) were logged in very rarely.
The problem is when i logged in guest account as administrator, i cannot set the 1st or 2nd back to become another administrator account. Something has gone strange, it has been prevented me to set the others to be administrator and the guest back to standard
account. Being as an administrator account, the guest account was totally useless in changing settings. When i logged in with 1st and 2nd account, i also cannot change anything in the user account settings (change type of user account) and family safety, all
attempts to change the user account settings was useless such as i never tried. I also tried "refresh your computer without losing files" but not worked. Please provide me some advices!
I did not find the forum for win 8 single language, so i place my question here.

Thanks for your reply. I tried to go to safe mode of win 8 by holding the shift key while clicking "restart" on the login screen. (My login screen now shows 3 account users). Then i chose troubleshoot -> advanced options -> windows startup
settings-> i went to safe mode. The safe mode only showed a complete black screen with an only window: "Administrator: cmd.exe". I did as you said (typing NETPLWIZ) and the User accounts window appeared. I went to "properties" of each
user account and set 1st and 2nd accounts to Administrator but got the error: "This user cannot be added. Access is denied." and another error window: "Usert accounts: the group membership for ... could not be updated."
Yesterday, i went to elevated command prompt as an administrator and typed "net user administrator /active:yes" with hope that the built-in administrator would be activated and i would use it for full control settings of 3 other user accounts.
But i got the error: "system error 5. Access is denied."
Now, my position is quite bad. Login with guest account which was set as administrator, i still can not have full control of this laptop, so that all attempts of mine to change the user account settings is denied. This guest account also does not have a
password at all so that everyone can open my computer without typing a password. Because access is denied, i cannot set a password for the guest account even now it is the administrator account and i am loging in it.
p/s: I tried to refresh the system but still got the error: "There was a problem refreshing your PC. No changes were made". And i also tried to restore the system, but got the error: "System restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's
system files and settings were not changed. Details: A volume shadow copy service component encountered an unexpected error. Check the Application event log for more information (0x80042302)"
I went in registry editor in safe mode and did as you said but there was no "AutoAdminLogon", "DefaultUserName", "DefaultPassword". I only saw "AutoLogonSID" and other different names...
The problem i got half year ago has still remained and recently i made this mistake. https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/8ebd868c-bdfd-412e-95a6-9dc0095d431c/cannot-paste-any-online-pictures-from-any-websites-into-wordpowerpointonenote-2013?forum=officeitpro

Hi,
These phenomenon should be access rights problem, you need to check your current system User Accounts status. In my opinion, your administrator account probably disabled.
Open Run, type LUSRMGR.MSC, press Enter.
Then check your current system account which Group they are belongs to.
If there is any progress, please feel free let me know.

• Can I change the administrator's account name

I do NOT want to change the adminstrator short name or the administrator password. But I'm wondering whether I can change the administrator long name (account name?) by editing the "Name:" field in the administrator's account pane under the Password tab. And if I can change the name is this is a good idea or will I open a pandora's box of problems.
Permission problems? - will there be ownership problems if the account owner's long name is changed but the short name is not,
Login problems? - I assume the login window will show the usual picture icon for the administrator but with the new long name. And by clicking the icon I'll have no problem logging in as long as I supply the old unchanged password.
File sharing problems? - If I want to login (Connect) to the administrator's account from another machine then could I use either the new administrator long name or the old unchanged short name to do this?
What else?
