Changing PowerMizer settings of Nvidia driver without restarting X

Is it possible to change PowerMizer settings of Nvidia driver WITHOUT restarting X?
I know this normally is not possible, but I'm asking about some hax0r tricks that might exist.
I would like to include those settings in automatic power saving script, but of course to do that, it has to work on a continuously running environment.

I've written crap!!!
This is the way:
gdmflexiserver --xnest
if you want a window with a new login!!!
and
gdmflexiserver
if you just want another x session  (Tere will be two of them in the same time).
You should .xinitrc alon, and use a display manager (such as gdm)
if you want this just modify in /etc/inittab
:x:5:respawn:/opt/gnome/bin/gdm -nodaemon
it should be the last line.
respawn means that if you close the x serv, it will restart

  • How can I change to a different SSL certificate without restarting FF?

I work in a helpdesk environment and my team requires the use of two different SSL certificates for one particular website depending on what we are doing. I can only find the following two ways to do this:
    1. Restart Firefox - this is really unproductive due to the nature of our work we have a lot of things open and in use in different tabs/windows and restarting firefox makes us lose information/progress (it's not the kind of stuff that re-opening the tabs automatically will fix).
    2. Wait 20 minutes after the last use of the certificate for it to time out and then Firefox will ask us to choose the certificate next time we try to access the page - obviously this is a pretty asinine solution and won't really work. (:
I'm just wondering if there is some way to force Firefox to change certificates or forget the one that is currently in use for the site?

Thanks for the suggestion, I should've mentioned I'd already tried that without success. I tried clearing everything in the Clear Recent History section actually but the certificate is still remembered.
I've also just now tried deleting the certificates completely but not even that works - a little concerning. (:

  • Is it possible to remount an external drive without restarting?

I'm a video editor .. and have as many as 5 external drives connected to my G5 at all times. Ocassionally I eject one or two hoping to add a little speed to my work, if they are drives I don't need at that time. Sometimes, I need to remount a drive or two. Since they are all connected to each other, I can't simply turn it off and on to remount it.
Also sometimes, I eject the drives still on the desktop and then toggle the drive at the top of the chain to remount them all. Sometimes, this works. Very often, it does not.
I spent MANY years cutting on AVID and I remember that there was a way to remount ejected drives ... maybe, it was part of that software. But I can't remember specifically.
Lately (as in the last couple of days) I'm finding that my drives are very tempermental and tho they are all on and connected when i turn the machine on... a few will not mount. When I open DIsk Utility the unseen drives are not listed. And, in my most recent case, the drives that are unavailable are the drives at the top of the chain. So that tells me the cables are good... since the computer can read the drives at the end of the chain.
My projects are "Ultra Low Budget" and so i am using drives that are available and on sale when the need arises which means they are different manufacturers: Seagate, LaCie, Maxtor (2) and G-Tech (2). 250, 500, 750 Gigs and 1TB (2). All are formatted HFS+ and all have mounted easily at the same time ... until today.
I just checked System Profiler and all the unmounted drives are listed in the "Firewire" profile but as "Unknown". When I click on any --- I can see the various connection speeds but no other information.
I have 2 internal Hard Drives connected -- Serial ATA: 160G and 200G. Both are MacOs 10.4.11
If the external drives were simply ejected --- can I mount them from the Finder?
and in the current situation: Is there any other info I can look up to help figure out why they aren't mounting automatically?
    thanks,
    ana

    The drives that aren't mounting are a G-Tech 1TB FW/eSATA and 2 Maxtor One-Touch 750G.
the G-tech has been connected to my computer using the 800 has been mounting without incident until about 6 hours ago ...output and the Maxtor drives are FW 400. one of the Maxtor drives started acting up 2 days ago but mounted earlier today. The second Maxtor hasn't been included in the chain for months ... its never mounted since I reconnected it this afternoon.
I've experienced the LaCie power source debacle ... I thought it was an isolated problem. But this particular drive has been very reliable.
pardon my ignorance but --- what is a "simple unmount" --- it sounds like its what I should be doing instead of my habit of dragging to the trash ...
Thanks so much for answering my post.

  • Javascript development on Apex - How to show changes on the Javascript on Apex without restarting the web server?

      Hi,
I am working on a Javascript for Apex. The changes are not reflected and I was told to restart the app server. Is there a better way for Apex to process the changed Javascript? Thanks.

    Hi,
I assume you store JavaScript to web server folder and browser caches your file.
Use query string end of file name like
    /my.js?v=0.0.1
And when you change file, change query string value
    Templates JavaScript help says:
File reference using a query string in the URL referencing the application version, such that when the application is upgraded
(and the version is incremented), the browser will be instructed to always load the new file and ignore any previously cached files.
    /myjs/main.js?version=#APP_VERSION#

  • Y510p and problem with Update Nvidia Driver

Hi everyonei have problem with updating my y510p lenovo laptop nvidia driver ,my current nvidia driver version is 327.62 which i download from lenovo website,Now for better performance in new games like gta v and witcher3 ,i decide to updating nvidia driver, first remove my nvidia graphic driver from add or remove then download nvidia ver 350 from nvidia official web site , which nvidia website confirm it support my graphic card which is Gt755m , then i install new ver and during install i check clean install , after successful install , restart laptop , then there was problem . when i try to open nvidia control panel it wont running and an error showed up and said "You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU" .i try to open a game , game running in really low fps and i find out game run on hd graphic of my laptop and my nvidia graphic wont run .The only way to repair was i install my last nvidia driver 327.62 and run a system restore .guys what is your suggestion and how i can update my y510p nvidia driver ?Thanks

    Hi Y510Man,
The video graphics installation order is important. You need to install the Intel Graphics first, and then do the Nvidia. IIRC you should un-install the Nvidia driver, then re-install (or upgrade) the Intel HD Graphics driver. Reboot, and install the new Nvidia driver.
I don't know why, but every time I upgraded my Y470 Nvidia driver, I had to use this procedure. First install, or re-install, the Intel driver, then install the Nvidia. You can't just upgrade the Nvidia driver without a re-install of the Intel. I think it has to do with the Optimus setting, and the automatic switching.
Let us know how it goes.

  • Problems trying ot change Netowrk Settings

I updated my computer to Windows 10 build 10041.  When I go to Network and Sharing Center, click on Change adapter settings, then right click on my Ethernet connection and click properties I get an error message saying "An unexpected
    error occurred"
I am able to change network settings using the PowerShell without issues.  Some software that relies on network setting do not work correctly, however.  The same software worked fine in the previous build.
    Anybody else with this problem?
    Thanks

Since both AZ and I can access all the above suspect it is local to your machines.
I would run a sfc & DISM as described in the wiki (and yes it does work in win 10 if done as described
Please run a system file check(SFC) & DISM if you are on win 8 or higher
All instructions are in our Wiki article below...

  • Possibly stupid question re: nvidia driver install

Hi there. I was wondering... Is it possible to install the nvidia driver without compiling the kernel? I don't want to repartition my drive to give Arch the space it would need to do that, and even if I had the space I'd rather not have to waste time compiling.
As a side curiousity, if I do indeed need to rebuild the kernel, can anyone explain why I need to? It seems to me that if whoever compiled it in the first place included the sources they used, and if they made a copy available, it would avoid a lot of hassle. Am I wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

OK - 4.) run the NVidia installer (say yes compile me one when it says it can't find any on nvidia's site)
    OK - 5.) update XF86Config-4
OK - 6.) add nvidia to the modules like of rc.conf
Just wanted to debate. If you fetched the kernel source, you should have a look inside its readme. There is a strong warning not to link your source to linux. Instead, give your nvidia installer the option where to find the source.
    nvinstaller --kernel-source-path=/usr/src/linux-2.6.4/
Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. Will not do that any more

  • GT70 20D BSoD on win 8.1 - Nvidia driver

    Hello,
I have several BSod (blue screen of death) under windows 8.1. (around one every days) i try to run driver verifier on ALL the drivers, one by one (it's take me few hours) and finally discover
that it's the driver for nvidia (nvlddmkm.sys exactly) that do all the time the BSoD ! (in driver verifier it's do BSoD few seconds after windows start)
I try everything possible, uninstalling nvidia driver (no more bsod but not perfect solution because compatible vga driver is used in place), using the last nvidia
driver (9.18.13.3182 but it's not work) and even the beta driver (not work either)
What the solution i have now ? is someone really have one GT70 20D and win8.1 with the laster nvidia driver without any BSoD ??
Also my win8.1 is a clean install from iso DVD
    thanks by advance

but i can't go to windows 8 ! the only previous version i can go (supported by our company) it's windows 7 ! but on the website on msi they said we can not update the bios with a windows 7 version when the bios was originally with a windows 8 version :( this can brick the laptop they say ... so what i can do ???
and sorry but when i read here :
    http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT70-2OD.html
    it's clearly say it's work with Windows 8.1 !
So i buy it regarding this ! but it's false advertising because it's never work on windows 8.1 !
it's msi that choose to work with nvidia, so it's their responsibility to say that it's not compatible with windows 8.1 !
anyone with the windows 8.1 can try driver verifer on the nvidia driver to see that it's immediately crash after few minutes
First off, calm down. You're being rather irrational.
The BIOS doesn't matter if it's a Windows 7 or a Windows 8 BIOS. It will work with the OS. You can install Windows 7 perfectly fine on a GT70 20D with it having a Windows 8 or 8.1 BIOS. The bios doesn't effect the OS. The reason they state information regarding the OS is that GT70 0NX's can come with both Windows 7 or Windows 8 pre-installed. Those notebooks can only upgrade to the same BIOS that corresponds to the OS originally installed.
That being said, you don't seem to understand what I said. MSI cannot control NVidia's drivers. If the NVidia drivers don't work well with Windows 8.1, that doesn't mean the notebook is incompatible. The notebook runs Windows 8.1 just fine. The problem lies more with NVidia and the drivers provided for Windows 8.1. I've been over this a million times on many different websites, getting mad at MSI over NVidia's drivers is the same as getting mad at Microsoft for printer manufacturer's not putting out updated printer drivers for Windows 8.1. Microsoft can't control what those manufacturer's do. Get mad at them.
As zipper has said, it does work, but look at what he did...he went through many different versions of both the Intel and NVidia drivers. Most likely you will have to do the same. This is not something we can do for you, you're going to have to do it on your own.

  • NVIDIA driver doesn't dynamically change power source

I'm using the NVIDIA driver on an MSI laptop, and I've noticed that it doesn't dynamically detect my power source.  The result of this is that if I boot the computer on battery power, then plug it in, the video card will continue to perform at less-than-maximum performance until I reload the driver with modprobe (of course, this is annoying because I have to exit from X11 first, then restart X11 after).  This goes the other way, as well; that is, I can boot the machine on AC power, then unplug it and the video card will continue to run as if it were still on AC power.  I have the "PowerMizer" configured to "Adaptive" in the settings.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?  Any ideas on how to solve it?
    Thanks.
    Arch x86_64
    NVIDIA 195.36.15
    MSI MS-1651 laptop
    NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

Took me a bit to work out why my nvidia card wouldn't behave the way I wanted it to on battery / AC.
I've just achieved the behaviour you're describing working on my Dell laptop (I wanted adaptive on battery, full performance on AC in X).
    What works for me is:
    Option    "RegistryDwords" "PowerMizerEnable=0x1; PerfLevelSrc=0x3322; PowerMizerDefaultAC=0x1"
... in xorg.conf and making sure you have installed acpid and starting it at boot.
It seems the nvidia driver uses acpid to detect if the cable has been pulled or not -- if you don't have acpid running it will always stay at max performance with my xorg.conf device settings listed above.
All I did was install acpid, started it at boot in rc.conf, no acpid configuration at all (i.e. I didn't touch a file except for rc.conf after I installed it), then I found the nvidia driver was able to detect the AC state.
If you want to tweak the settings for an on boot scenario (e.g. runlevel 3, no X), I'm pretty sure you can pass module parameters to get what you want -- however I haven't bothered with that as I'm always in X anyway.
    Hope this helps, cheers.

Long story short: Simply get CC for teams. At 500 bucks a year it's a steal and those 5 licenses in the base package (or was it 10 even?) cover all your computers, at least the 3 ones you mentioned. For system requirements refer to the individual product pages.

  • Why does FireFox change layout/settings during upgrades without asking ?

Just upgraded to Firefox 18 (windows 7 desktop). Why does Firefox change layouts/settings without asking the user if he wants it or not???
I am getting sick of those changes. I want to have at the google main page the options (as before) to search in all languages, or pages from a certain language or pages in a certain language (of course depening of the google address; f.i. at google.de for german languages, google.fr for french languages etc).
In the latest Firefox 17 it was working as I wanted and described before: when I visited www.google.de/firefox of www.google.fr/firefox. Now those 3 options (under the search bar) are gone and I do not want to operate by clicking on the advanced search button. Those things should be visible under the search bar again.
Also my STARTPAGE was GONE/DELETED after the update !!! Grrrrr.... Updating is OK but mozilla should not change user configured items !!!!!!!
The above described problem has nothing to do with the google website.

By the way, do Firefox and IE use the same proxy settings? You can view Firefox's here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > "Network" mini-tab > "Settings" button
The default is "Use system proxy settings".

No, they will all follow the default setting. If you want them all to fetch, for example every 15 minutes, then set it to 15 minutes in Fetch. I only mentioned the other if you wanted to leave one for manual. I have an account on my phone that is a POP account that I get mail at home from. I let my home computer get this mail, but when I am out of town, I pick it up with the iPhone. That one is set to manual.

  • How to make changes effect in log4j.xml without restarting weblogic server

    Hi ,
I have successfully configured log4j in my weblogic server 8.1.
Everytime i made a change in log4j.xml i need to restart the server
is there any configuration or parameter to set without restarting server??
    Thanks in advance,
    CK

I don't think you need to restart the server, atleast I never needed to when making changes to jsp pages. You only need to restart when you make changes to java classes. Some might argue jsp is converted to servlet which is a java class.....
Try refreshing the page when you make any changes. This works for me, if it doesn't work try turning reloadable="true" in your context path in tomcat's server.xml
