Changing video file icons

Hi,
I know how to change icons usually, but when I try to change the icons of a video file it comes up as just blank in the finder. The picture shows as the icon in 'file info', but not under preview or in the finder window. How do I change this? I've tried a few things, from dragging and dropping the jpeg file to copying the actual image from preview.
I'm backing up a whole stack of dvds, and it would be handy to use an image other than the standard first black frame that's automatically chosen for most of them.

Not sure what you did for the two hours "making the menu" but I don't think you would need to redo that effort.
The surest way to keep the DVDSP project from becoming corrupt is to open the project and delete the old asset (need to delete it from any container it is used in (like a track) then delete it from the project. Save the project and quit.
Go to the par folder for the project and delete the parse file for the asset.
Encode new asset with slightly different name (like asset_02) then bring this new asset into DVDSP and load it into whatever container it was in before.
And of course before you do any of this make a copy of the project file.

Bridge CC - 64 bit freezes when selecting a video file icon in content view

On a 64-bit PC (12 core, 64 GIG RAM) with solid state hard drive and Nvidia Quadra 4000 video card with latest driver. I have purged cache, I have reset preferences, I have changed shortcut to Run As Administrator. I've tried to find a way to run in 32-bit mode but can't find a way to do it. I've also looked to see how I can install a 32-bit version with Adobe Cloud but can't find anything. Any ideas how to stop Bridge CC 64-bit from continually freezing upon selecting a video file icon?

Thanks for the response. From what I can tell it is all video file types. The ones I most consistently have are .wmv, .mov, .mp4. I have also changed the file associations from the default video players to VLC to see if it was a Quicktime or Windows Media Player issue and that didn't solve it.

Full motion preview as video file icon?

is there a way to give a video file a finder icon that shows a full-motion preview, much like the small clip that plays when you highlight a video file in frontrow? thanks!

I'm not certain about a Finder icon to assign to a video clip but here's an example of what you can do.
Open a Finder window. Select "Column View" from the buttons just right of your Forward/Back buttons. Now, in the Sidebar on the left, click Movies, (or whatever file you keep videos in, it's handy to keep them in the Sidebar)... a list of video files will appear. Just select one. A video clip will appear in the column to the right and you can view it that way. If need be you can Customize your Toolbar in any Finder window. Just open a Finder window, then in the Menu top of your Desktop, click View/Customize Toolbar.

Select (highlight) the file in Finder, click Get Info in the File menu (or use Command I), change Open With in the Get Info window. Click Change All if you want all PDF files to do the same.

Changing video file that is on the Stage

Hello,
So, I need to replace the video that is already on the stage in the layer called 'video'
I need to do that to keep the settings I put on it (pause/play etc... on the timeline)
I tried that, but it doesn't work, because it add another video so I have two video playing

Suddenly cannot change any file (icon) names

Until today this had never happened. I create a new folder, click to select and get a text box, overwrite 'untitled folder' with a new name. Now no keys have any effect after I get the text box. I can't overwrite or delete the name or any character of the name. And it doesn't matter if it is a folder or a file, whether it is on the desktop, or what folder it is in. I tried using Get Info and unlocked everything, and made sure permissions were all Read & Write, even though I assume that is not necessary. Nothing helps. Any suggestions?

Instead of keeping files or folders in the Dock, use your Safari Bookmarks instead. This way you can go to Safari/ *Export Bookmarks* to save the in the event of a system failure. You can burn this to a CD, back up hard drive, a .mac account using an iDisk... just to name a few. That way if you restart, you don't have to worry about the files/folders in the Dock. You will have to restart your Mac after software updates regardless.
Also, there is a difference between completely shutting down your Mac and Restarting. This from the Apple Help Viewer/Mac OS X/Restart:
Restarting your computer
You don't have to shut your computer down to restart.
To restart your computer, choose Apple menu > Restart.
To restart from a login window, click the Restart button.
If you don't see a Restart button in the login window, log in and choose Restart from the Apple menu.
If necessary, you can restart manually. Hold down the power button on your computer until it shuts off. After a moment, press the power button again to start your computer.
Some computers may also have a special "restart" button on the case. Check the documentation for your computer to find out.
IMPORTANT: If you restart manually, unsaved changes in open documents may be lost. Be sure to save your work often.
I just added a document to my Dock, went to the Apple Menu and clicked Restart and when the Desktop came back up, the file was still in the Dock.
The restore disk that came with your Mac is probably machine specific. And no, there isn't anywhere on the Apple site that you can download a copy of Tiger for free.
Renaming Mac OS X folders is not a great idea. Here's why... if you can't find a certain Mac application and you've renamed it, you wouldn't even be able to find it with Spotlight. Never change the names of the system applications/utilities.

This is most likely the reason you are having problems naming files and folders. If you have altered any files in the System or System Folder, then you really need your restore disk because other than purchasing a Tiger disk, or upgrading to Leopard, if your Mac meets the minimum requirements, maybe the only way to get your Mac running as it should.

"Or can I burn a CD with DiskUtility copied to it from my machine.." You can run the Disk Utility that resides on the drive located in your Applications/Utilities folder to Repair Disk Permissions or Verify if there are errors on the disk, BUT it cannot Repair the disk. That is why you need your restore disk.

I want to change 1000 file Icons to another "Icon image".
I understand how to change one Icon at a time :- Highlight file, Get info, Copy and Paste etc.
How do I change 1000 in one go on Mac OS 10.3.9. I do NOT want to do one at a time!.

I have just used "Viou". It has changed multiple folder icons (family tree) for me in one go to a new single icon, however it only seems to work on folders.
I still have the problem of changing file icons. It would be great if I could change all "file" icons to a new icon in a multiple folder (family tree) leaving the folder icons the same. Is this possible?

Change the file set icons system wide

Hello,
I am trying to change all my .html, .js, .css file sets, system wide. Right now they are all the plain boring white with text. If I go into a folder they quickly appear with their more colorful Dreamweaver, photoshop, etc icon, but quickly jump back to the plain white, boring icon. I know how to change the files icons one by one, but obviously that could take a while.
Looking for an easy way to change my files system wide wothout screwing anything up. Recently came from a PC and loving my mac (never going back).

Still no :o)
The only way around it, is to wrap your conc process that generates the etext output either with another program or if its an Oracle Report based program, in the after report trigger. That will get a handle on the generated file, easy enough cos you'll know the requestid, and then copy and rename it to the same or another location. We used to do this for a payments process in the Netherlands localization we ship.

Change Ugly adobe file icon

I recently uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader (32-bit Windows 7 on HP desktop). For some reason, I now have a different icon next to my .pdf files.
I no longer have either:
1. the red icon with the curly white triangle, nor
2. the white icon with the the curly red triangle, the red bar on top with PDF, and Adobe at the bottom.
(Sorry, I don't seem to be able to post htese icons.)
The icon is now an ugly white rectangle, that has in the middle a tiny red version of icon 1 above.
I can find the icons 1 and 2 in a .dll file at C:\Program Files\Adobe, but I can't even find the current icon in any .exe or .dll file.
I have tried various ways to get the original icon back, but without success. Does anyone know how to do it?
Interestingly, I did exactly the same uninstall-reinstall on my laptop (also with 32-bit Windows 7), and I now have icon 2. What's going on?

Some further details about my attempts to change the icon.
1. Using Directory Opus, I can change other file icons on my system. This process does not change the file associations, only the icon. I can, for example, even download an icon from the web and change a file icon to the downloaded icon (without changing the file association).
This process, however, does not work with Adobe Reader 9.3. With this programme, everything seems to work exactly the same during the change process, but the file icon does not change. Even when I reboot, no change occurs.
2. I went on the web and found clear instructions about how to change the file icons in Windows 7 at

I went through their steps, as administrator, and navigated to

But I can't do this. I keep getting an error message:

Cannot edit : Error writing the value's new contents.
CONCLUSION: It does seem that Adobe is somehow protecting the Registry. Please, Adobe techies, how do I do this?

There's nothing you can do to change this b/c mobile devices simply ignore the parameter.   All that said, why are you still using player plugins? You don't need them with HTML5 video.

How do I get an MP4 video file to autoplay instead of download

I am using Dreamweaver CS5.5. I am trying to embed an .mp4 video on my website to autoplay. When I take it to "Live View" the file plays - if I use the "Play" function in Properties I get the following message - "Unable to find the plugin that handles this media type. Dreamweaver looks in both the "Configurations/Plugins" folder, and the plugins folder for each of your selected browsers." When I publish the page and go to my website to view, the video does not play - instead, the file downloads to my computer. What can I do to remedy this issue?

Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended file icon.

Whenever I save a .PSD file, the file icon is a white background with the Photoshop program icon on it, instead of the default blue photoshop file or .PSD file icon. Please tell me how I can fix this. Is this a bug or do I have to change something in the settings? I really want the original Photoshop CS6 File icon. Please help.

You can change the file icon by editing your file associations under Extras --> Folder Options --> File associations. Select the Photoshop image file type, change the icon. Just be aware that depending on your folder view options, Windows may still display an alternate icon at times e.g. in file dialogs...

FILE ICON

I've follow the instruction to change the icon, which is select and image, ctrl+i on the file, and paste the image on the icon. It works for me at the first time, but this time, when i try changing another file icon, it only shows the JPEG/PNG Icon instead of the JPEG/PNG image that i have chosen. Please advise.

Diff between "MPEG-4 Video File" & "MPEG-4 Movie" (PC) ?

iTunes seems to play both video types. I have several dozen of each on my PC. Both are in my iTunes "Movies" folder and all are video.
The "MPEG-4 Video File" icon is the little music note on top of a CD with "MPEG 4" under it.
The "MPEG-4 Movie" icon is a little "Q" in what looks like a film frame with "MPG4" under the Q.
Is there difference in the way iTunes handles either and should I save video files in one mode or the other? Why?

Handbrake includes a universal setting which makes the video compatible with the iPhone/iPod, Apple TV, and with iTunes on your computer. It also includes an iPhone/iPod compatible setting.

I don't think Finder does this (I've tried).
iTunes does though. Where you can set artwork or the "poster frame"...
This may not be what you want but if it helps, I know 2 ways do this is
Open the video in QuicktimePlayer7 | View | Set Poster Frame (even then, you might need to save it as .mov (ie in a 'mov container').
Drag the file into iTunes and set the artwork (as in http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/adding-album-cover-art-or-images-in-itunes .html)
From there, iTunes will use that frame as the "poster frame" ie the photo/frame that shows when you browse your videos. Which is what you want, but limited to iTunes.
When I do either of these above, the frame I set does not show when exploring files in "Finder" (or in the other Explorer tool I use called "Pathfinder").
So it maybe, that exactly what you want, is not possible.
