Changing worksheet names in excel 2010

I recently switched from excel 2003 to 2010 usnig Oralce BI Add In
In 2003 I could change the names of the Worksheets and it would not cause an issue with the Oracle BI queries
In Excel 2010 if I change the name of a worksheet after I have created a query, then Oracle BI no longer recognizes the query as being on the Tab with the new name
Is there a way to change the TAB/Worksheet name with out it impacting the Oracle BI Query?
Thanks
PerryK

Hello Lori,
I think that is possible :) one question - you want to merge those two worksheets into one pivottable report? That would be little more complicated.
If not, just try to put all your wanted columns into pivottable "row field" part - Excel won't treat the data as a calculation and will just display according to outline. One nice tip - you can always change the report layout from "compact
form" into "tabular form" (using - PivotTable Tools/Design/Report Layout). That would display the data in separate columns so you can filter easily.
Let me know, if it works :)

Since you are using 'SCMS_STRING_TO_XSTRING' I assume you build a text-tab delimited string for the Excel content. With the text-tab delimited format you have no formatting options or Excel specific functionality.  You can't rename or use multiple worksheets.  For that level of Excel specific functionality you would have to use the Excel XML format.

  • ActiveX renaming worksheet name in Excel

Hi! I'm trying to use ActiveX to add a sheet to existing Excel file.  There is an ActiveX Add function for sheets, but it doesn't give me a chance to name the new sheet.  Does anyone know how to rename a sheet in Excel with ActiveX? or Add a new sheet with specific name in Excel with ActiveX?
    Thanks in advance!!

    Hi Elsa,
With attached VI you can add a sheet with the name from the name control. Hope this helps.

  • Filter button doesn't work after changing worksheet name

I am using Bex 7.10.  I have a workbook with 2 queries.  I want to change the name on the Tab for each sheet but when I do that the Filter and Information buttons no longer work.  Is there a way to do this?

Check in the Design mode and right click on the Filter tab and check do you see all the filters listed?
If not you can reinsert the query to a new workbook and try.

  • Change Sheet Name for Excel Report?

    Hi,
When I create an Excel report out of BI Publisher, the sheet name always matches the file name. For example, if I save the file as test1.xls, when I open the spreadsheet, the sheet's name is "test1". I would like the sheet name to be different from the file name. It doesn't look like BI Publisher has an option for that specific need. So, I looked at the xls file in a text editor and noticed it was HTML...and I don't think there's something I could tweak in the HTML to make the sheet name differ from the file name...is there?
    Any ideas for my problem?
    Thanks...
    Kevin

    Hi Serguei
You will have to change the Excel sheet name manually after exporting the report.  You cannot retain the report name to the Excel sheet after exporting.

  • Excel 2010 workbook crashing Excel 2013

We have someone who created a workbook in Excel 2010 and when we open it in Excel 2013 it will crash. You can open the doc and look at it, but once you start trying to do anything in it, after a random time period, it will crash. Also if you try to resave
the document it will crash every time, no matter how long you've been in the doc.
Is there any way we can track down what in the doc might be causing this? I've tried it on several different systems with excel 2013, a few of which have SP1 installed already and it does the same thing. Any suggestions?

    Hi Jcasteel,
Could you please give us more information about this workbook?
Any Macros or formulas in this file? Does this file have any links to other files? Try to move VBA code or links manually to narrow down this issue(You can change this workbook in excel 2010). If it contains multiple worksheets ,open them separately
    to address this issue.
In addition, have you ever try the general methods? e.g.
1.Open the workbook using the 'open and repair' feature(Start Excel->On the File menu-> click Open->In the Open dialog box, select the file that you want to open->Click the arrow on the Open button, and then click Open and Repair )
2.Start excel in Safe Mode(Press and hold the CTRL key, and then click the name of the Microsoft Office program that you want to run)
Also if it is convenient for you, you can share your workbook with us .

  • How can I change the names of the Excel Worksheets using LabView?

    Hi Everyone...
I want to start a project but I want to be capable to create and change the names of the worksheets in excel using LabView.
We know the default name of the worksheets (Sheet 1, Sheet 2...)
Can I make this change only using labview with some activeX, properties and methods...
    Best regards...
    Mexico
    LabView 8.0

    Hello,
Yes, you can modify the name of an Excel Sheet with ActiveX property Node or Invoke Node.
There are some good examples in the NI Example Finder of Labview on "Communicating with external Applications -> ActiveX -> Excel ->..."
To modify the name of a sheet, you need to use the property "Name" of the reference "Sheet"

  • Change Middle Names to Middle Initials in Excel 2010

In Excel 2010, is there a way to convert "John Walker Smith" to "John W Smith"?
I wish to use a formula instead of VBA code fixes please.
    Doug in York PA
    Douglas R. Eckert

Let's say that 'John Walker Smith' is in A1.
    In B1, enter the formula
    =IFERROR(LEFT(A1,FIND(" ",A1)+1)&RIGHT(A1,LEN(A1)-FIND(" ",A1,FIND(" ",A1)+1)+1),A1)
This formula can be filled down.
It will work OK if there is a suffix such as Jr or Ph.D. ('John Walker Smith, Ph.D.') or if there is no middle name ('Johnny Walker'), but it will fail if there is a suffix and no middle name: 'James Smith, Jr' will become 'James S Jr'.

  • Excel 2010 missing default suggested file name in Save As dialog box

I’m using Excel 2010 running on Windows 7 (32 bit).  When I open a certain file which produces the following message: "A file is in a different file format than its extension indicates", and then go to “Save As” (or “Save”) the
file, the default suggested file name is missing (blank).  This didn't occur in previous versions of Excel.
In previous versions, Excel would automatically populate the original file name in to the File Name field.
I have searched all over the net, looking for a way to change Excel so that it will once again populate the file name in this situation.
    To reproduce:
    Create a new blank workbook
save as type “Web Page”, (i.e. File name:  “Blank Example.html”)
    Close workbook
In windows, rename file from .html to .xls  (i.e. rename “Blank Example.html” to “Blank Example.xls”)
In Excel open renamed file (i.e. “Blank Example.xls”) and click “Yes” when prompted with the “A file is in a different file format than its extension indicates” message.
Do a “Save As” and you will notice that the File Name is blank. In previous versions, this field would contain the current workbook file name
     (i.e. “Blank Example.xls”)
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Jaynet,
In order to re-produce this, you need to answer "yes" to the rename file prompt and then continue with step 5 (above).
The reason for this is not an exercise in futility - I assure you.  At my work and elsewhere, when web developers have created features to permit the end user to save web data in Excel format, often times the Excel files are saved locally in Excel's
html format (but with the .xls
    extension).
    (I actually prefer the .xls
extension, because it is easier to just double-click the file to open in Excel, rather than to select the open-with and then select Excel. a file with the .html extension will default open in your default browser. Now, I could change my default program
for the .html extension, but that would only solve a part of the problem and would not really address the bigger issue and that being that Microsoft changed a behavior in Excel and may not even be aware that it was a much used feature. )
To continue, when I go to open the resulting Excel file, I am prompted with the message that the file type does not match the extension (which is fine and not bothersome to me).  It's at this point when I go to save the file that I get really annoyed.
In previous versions of Excel, the default file name would be pre-filled with the current name of the file and the default file type would state that it is a Web html file.  I would just change the file type to Excel Workbook and hit enter to save.
I would be prompted with "Are you sure you want to overwrite your existing file?" message and I would click "yes" and that would be that.
However, in Excel 2010, because the default file name is blank, I then need to re-type the name into the field to save the file.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Is there any way to just read the excel worksheet name?

    Hi
recently i just got this project need to read data from excel file, and after a few days of research i understand u can read and write to excel to  worksheet that the name or postion is known.
but is there any way to just read the excel worksheet name? As there excel format is not fixed and i need to search and open only the sheets i need.
I  try change it to string but dun seem to work.
not sure is this the right way... anyone?

There is nothing to coerce actually.
First, create a constant ref for the prop node on the left-most. Then, del its wire & move it to the Variant to Data function & connect to it. Now, rt-click on the ref constant & choose Select ActiveX Class > Browse.. option. Select the Type Library as Microsoft Excel 11.0... & the Object as _Workbook.
Thats it, it ll automatically fetch you the Excel_Worksheet reference as the data.

  • Excel 2010 changes relative link paths to absolute in files synced with Offline Files in Windows 7

Hello! I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this problem: I have a large number of Excel 2010 and 2003 files in a folder on my file server. This whole folder is also synced to my computer using Offline Files in Windows 7. I have a lot of references between
cells in different Excel files, and all referenced workbooks are physically in the same folder. This all works nicely when I create these files at work - all file paths referenced in the cells are created as relative paths and the documents open correctly.
This is, I understand, the expected and default behavior when Excel creates links. When I edit these files at home, nothing seems odd until I get back to work and sync these files back to the file server. At this point, I discovered that Excel 2010 has, when
I saved the files while away from the corporate network, changed /all/ the cell references in any offline-edited Excel files to point at absolute paths, and that these absolute paths point to somewhere in my %APPDATA% structure. So whenever I come to work
and I try to open an Excel file that I have recently worked with offline, I get a bunch of error messages about referenced files that are missing, although clearly they exist in the same folder as the file I've opened, and I must edit all the file references
again, whereupon they are again created correctly as relative paths (since all files exist in the same folder), which are promptly mangled into absolute C:\....\Offline Files\.....\..... paths whenever I save them at home (and since that works too, I don't
notice it again until I come back to work and the offline files are synced back to the real network location). This seems to be a case of Windows 7's Offline Files not being able to fool Excel 2010 into believing it is working on a file server - apparently
Excel 2010 can see through the fakery and decides on it's own to "fix" the problem (which obviously isn't a problem since the paths are relative to begin with) by saving the paths as absolute paths instead. Yes, really clever, Excel. The exepected behavior
according to MSKB is that links are created as relative paths, so why does it change to absolute whenever Offline Files are involved? I know Offline Files only syncs, it doesn't actually change the files, so I can conclude that Excel is the program at fault
here. Is there a fix for this, or a known workaround? Because frankly, this bug makes it impossible for me to work in any advanced manner with linked Excel files. The sad thing is that this worked perfectly fine with Office 2003 and Windows XP. Is there a
patch for this problem that I might have missed (I am running the latest Service Pack and I get Office updates from Microsoft Update). If not, is there a workaround I can use to prevent Excel from corrupting my links when I edit the files offline?

    Hello danceswithwindows,
    Thank you for your post.
This is a quick note to let you know that we are performing research on this issue.

  • Using Acrobat X and creating a PDF File from EXCEL 2010, I notice that the Pagination restarts at 1 for each Worksheet included in the PDF.

I use Acrobat X Standard and created a PDF file from two or more worksheets using EXCEL 2010.
The resulting PDF file restarts the PAGE # (In header/footer settings of Excel) at 1 for each worksheet.
However, a colleague of mine who has Acrobat X Pro version, using EXCEL 2010 and same exact file does the same task, he gets a file that starts at page 1 and second worksheet continues the page # from the last page of the First worksheet.
We both are using the ACROBAT menu (not the print to Adobe printer) to create the file so that we can get Bookmarks included in the resulting file for each worksheet.
We cannot figure out any option in Acrobat's preferences that controls the pagination on either of these versions of Acrobat.
So is this just a feature that works one way in Standard version and another way in the Pro version, and the user has no control over it?

This is so sad. I read your comments and I said, "Huh?" Haha!
I tried the indexed color option and it did make the final file smaller. Around 600KB. But there's probably another way to make it even smaller like the gazillion-paged pdf file that I mentioned that was only about 300KB.
And by saying a layout program, does that mean like Adobe InDesign? Does that mean that I should just make my graphics in Photoshop and then import using another program and finish the file there?
What other layout programs can I use?
    Thank you so much!

  • Switch Linked (xl source) Tables - behavior change Excel 2010 PP vs. Excel 2013 PP -- In 2013 all calcs of table are lost

    Situation:
PowerPivot 2010 Model based on 10 linked tables (this tables are generated and refreshed as needed by SQL 2012 MDS Excel-AddIn)
Unfortunately Excel MDS AddIn changes sometimes the tablename (case: MDS Add-In Filter changed, MDS Server changed). So after Change of tablename we have to fix the powerpivot link to this Excel tables in powerpivot to get powerpivot refresh working again
    Problem:
With Excel 2010 PowerPivot this was possible without big Problems. As Long as table has identical structure one can Change/Switch the table in powerpivot Windows > Ribbon "Linked" Table > DropDown "Linked Table X" or during update
via Dialog "Errors in Linked Table"
After upgrading the solution to Excel 2013 this is not possible any more without loosing any column- or measure calcs defined for this table! :( Every time you Change the assigned Excel table for an existing linked powerpivot table..you
    get following Dialog:
"You are changing the source of X to Excel table Y. Changing the source will remove all formatting, measures, KPIs, hierarchies, and other Settings applied to the table. Are you sure you want to to continute?"
Does anyone found a Workaround for persisting existing calc of linked tables when changing the sourcetable (to another Excel table with same structure)??
Dear MS, this is IMHO really a step backwards and blocks the migration of our existing Excel 2010 PowerPivot Solution? Should i create a connect entry for that?!
    Version-Info:
    2010 Version: 11.0.3000.0 (PP Ribbon>Settings)
    2013 Version: 11.0.2809.81 (Product version displayed for dll c:\program files\Microsoft Office\Office15\Addins\PowerPivot excel Add-In\PowerPivotExcelClientAddIn.dll)

There is a very similar issue discussed here where i tried to show the different behavior in terms of linked tables in Excel/PowerPivot 2010 vs 2013
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/8fd927f7-30fd-49b7-809c-cb1414955638/linked-tables-excel-2013-vs-2010-difference?forum=sqlkjpowerpivotforexcel
maybe it helps you to understand the issue
I assume that MDS creates a new table every time you refresh it thereby breaking the link to PowerPivot
in case you only have calculated measure you may created a separate, independent linked table and define all calculated measures there
this way they at least would not get removed

  • Lock Excel 2010 Headers and Footers in Protected Worksheet

    Hi,
Is there any way to lock Excel 2010 Headers and Footers in a Protected Worksheet?
    Thank You!

    Hi,
Here is one way to 'lock' the header and footer control, by disabling it in the WorkBook_Open event.
You indicate that the workbook is 'macro enabled', so if you are well versed in VBA please forgive the following
    step by step 'how to'.
Copy the following code to the clipboard:
    Private Sub Workbook_Open()
    Application.CommandBars("Worksheet menu bar"). _
    Controls("View").Controls("&Header and Footer...").Enabled = False
    End Sub
    Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean)
    Application.CommandBars("Worksheet menu bar"). _
    Controls("View").Controls("&Header and Footer...").Enabled = True
    End Sub
    Press ALT + F11
Double click 'THIS WORKBOOK' in the Microsoft Excel Objects in the upper left quadrant.
Paste both event handlers into the WorkBook module editing area to the right.
Close the VBE and return to the worksheet.
    Save the workbook.
Now, whenever the workbook is opened, the Header and Footer option under the View tab will be disabled (grayed out). When the workbook is closed, the control will be enabled again so it will be accessible in all subsequently opened workbooks.
If you wish to have access to the header and footer for 'maintenance', copy the following macro to the clipboard:
    Sub HeadnFoot()
    If Application.CommandBars("Worksheet menu bar"). _
    Controls("View").Controls("&Header and Footer...").Enabled = False Then
    Application.CommandBars("Worksheet menu bar"). _
    Controls("View").Controls("&Header and Footer...").Enabled = True
    Else
    Application.CommandBars("Worksheet menu bar"). _
    Controls("View").Controls("&Header and Footer...").Enabled = False
    End If
    End Sub
ALT + F11 to access the VBE.
    INSERT > MODULE
Paste the macro into the module editing area to the right.
    Close the VBE.
    Press ALT + F8
When the Macros window opens, highlight this macro and click 'Options..'.
Enter a letter to be used as a keyboard shortcut and click 'OK'.
    Close the Macros window.
    Save the workbook.
Now, when you open the workbook and need to modify the header or footer, press CTRL + your shortcut letter and the control will be enabled. Press the keyboard shortcut again and the control will again be disabled. It is a 'toggle' macro.
    Sincerely,
    Harry
