Changing XML file

All,
I am very new to OA Framework and this is my assignment in OA Framework to customize a page.
Basically i have to modiy a query of an LOV.
The query is in an XML file i.e ExpenseTemplatesVO.xml
I have two questions :
1) Steps on how to modify this query. Can i simply change this query and copy back the XML file.
2) I need to get Responsiblity id in this query. How can i get this?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

1) Steps on how to modify this query. Can i simply change this query and copy back the XML file.If you are planning to add whereClause then you can go for Controller extension. We never change the seeded oracle files. We always extend these classes so to retain the existing functionality.
And if you want to add one attribute in the VO query then you have to go for View Object Substitution. You can find N number of links on Google and also search in Old thraeds.
2) I need to get Responsiblity id in this query. How can i get this?It can be capture by using the below syntax in the extended controller:
String respId = pageContext.getResponsibilityId();
String respName = pageContext.getResponsibilityName();
Thanks

  • Updating flash from a dynamically changing XML file

    Creating a non-interactive status display: I want to have the
    flash display reflect data in a server-based XML-file. So far this
    is easy. But I want the display to change everytime the XML file
    changes-- in order to reflect status changes. I've used an
    XMLConnector and specified it and the trigger in the first frame.
    The Flash code catches and shows the XML values initially . But
    when I edit the XML file, the new values are never picked up by
    Flash- its almost as though the values are cached. How do I get
    Flash to regularly be updated from a changing XML file? I've also
    tried putting the trigger in a loop- but that doesn't work
    either.

    I DID find a solution with setInterval, but there is still a
    problem of a diffeent sort.
    When using XMLConnector, it appears that
    XMLConnector.trigger() is the thing that goes out and gets new data
    from the server. so:
    function checkForData():Void {
    myXML.trigger();
    <<handle new values of bound data>>
    var intervalID:Number = setInterval(checkForData, 10000);
    works very well by executing the trigger every 10000
    timeunits. This all works when run in the Flash Player. However, if
    I embed the thing in a webpage (with either FireFox or IE7 or 6),
    It stops triggering after the first time. Interestingly if I also
    run the Flash Player version, then the web version keeps updating,
    but stops if I kill the Player. So, I'm wondering: whats up with
    this?

    This procedure is working fine for some special characters. But some special characters are getting replaced by different characters before performing the replace so it is causing wrong replacement of characters.
    eg- i need to replace & by +
    but it is changing it to +amp which is incorrect.
    Is it something related to characters encoding?
    Please help.

    eg- i need to replace & by +
    but it is changing it to +amp which is incorrect.
    Is it something related to characters encoding?
    Due to its special meaning in the XML language, occurrences of the ampersand character '&' have be escaped to &amp; as well as '<', '>' and '"' respectively to &lt;, &gt; and &quot;.
    So in short, do not replace the ampersand character.

  • Can't change xml file

    I am trying to import files from an external drive. I was able to do the add file to library from the drive but whenever I reload itunes it expects the files to be on my external drive which I have removed. I tried to change the location of the files in the itunes music library xml file but everytime I bring up itunes it changes the file location back to the original file on the external hard drive. I physically copied the files from the external drive to my itunes directory but itunes refuses to let me manually change the xml file to reflect the new location. Does anyone have a clue as to how I can update the xml file to point to the itunes directory for these imported songs rather than pointing back to the external drive?

    This is why an XML parser will automatically translate this value for you when it parses the XML file. The dom4j Document object will never see this value and when you do a getText() the resolved value is returned.
    Instead in Java you should use either the '' value (make sure to save your Java files as Unicode) or you could use the Java way to escape characters: \u00EB.
    I was satisfied with the "" in my XML file ... but when I deployed the application to the webserver .. and generated an XML-file I read "", which is definitely not what I want ..
    So on my local Tomcat5 server I get "". On the SunWappserver I get "".This seems to be a different problem. When you read the file, you will have to make sure to read the file with the encoding that it was saved in. This means that the editor that you use to read the file will have to be able to read files encoded using UTF-8 (Unicode).

  • "PLS-00172: string literal too long" When Writing XML file into a Table

    Hi.
    I'm using DBMS_XMLStore to get a XML file into a db table. See the example below, I'm using that for my PL/SQL format. Problem is that because there're too many XML elements that I use in "xmldoc CLOB:= ...", I get "PLS-00172: string literal too long" error.
    Can someone suggest a workaround?
    THANKS!!!
    DECLARE
    insCtx DBMS_XMLStore.ctxType;
    rows NUMBER;
    xmldoc CLOB :=
    '<ROWSET>
    <ROW num="1">
    <EMPNO>7369</EMPNO>
    <SAL>1800</SAL>
    <HIREDATE>27-AUG-1996</HIREDATE>
    </ROW>
    <ROW>
    <EMPNO>2290</EMPNO>
    <SAL>2000</SAL>
    <HIREDATE>31-DEC-1992</HIREDATE>
    </ROW>
    </ROWSET>';
    BEGIN
    insCtx := DBMS_XMLStore.newContext('scott.emp'); -- get saved context
    DBMS_XMLStore.clearUpdateColumnList(insCtx); -- clear the update settings
    -- set the columns to be updated as a list of values
    DBMS_XMLStore.setUpdateColumn(insCtx,'EMPNO');
    DBMS_XMLStore.setUpdateColumn(insCtx,'SAL');
    DBMS_XMLStore.setUpdatecolumn(insCtx,'HIREDATE');
    -- Now insert the doc.
    -- This will only insert into EMPNO, SAL and HIREDATE columns
    rows := DBMS_XMLStore.insertXML(insCtx, xmlDoc);
    -- Close the context
    DBMS_XMLStore.closeContext(insCtx);
    END;
    /

    You ask where am getting the XML doc. Well, am not
    getting the doc itself.I either don't understand or I disagree. In your sample code, you're certainly creating an XML document-- your local variable "xmldoc" is an XML document.
    DBMS_XMLSTORE package needs
    to know the canonical format and that's what I
    hardcoded. Again, I either don't understand or I disagree... DBMS_XMLStore more or less assumes the format of the XML document itself-- there's a ROWSET tag, a ROW tag, and a then whatever column tags you'd like. You can override what tag identifies a row, but the rest is pretty much assumed. Your calls to setUpdateColumn identifies what subset of column tags in the XML document you're interested in.
    Later in code I use
    DBMS_XMLStore.setUpdateColumn to specify which
    columns are to be inserted.Agreed.
    xmldoc CLOB :=
    '<ROWSET>
    <ROW num="1">
    <KEY_OLD> Smoker </KEY_OLD>
    <KEY_NEW> 3 </KEY_NEW>
    <TRANSFORM> Specified </TRANSFORM>
    <KEY_OLD> Smoker </KEY_OLD>
    <VALUEOLD> -1 </VALUEOLD>
    EW> -1 </VALUENEW>
         <DESCRIPTION> NA </DESCRIPTION>
    </ROW>
    ROWSET>';This is your XML document. You almost certainly want to be reading this from the file system and/or have it passed in from another procedure. If you hard-code the XML document, you're limited to a 32k string literal, which is almost certainly causing the error you were reporting initially.
    As am writing this I'm realizing that I'm doing this
    wrong, because I do need to read the XML file from
    the filesystem (but insert the columns
    selectively)...What I need to come up with is a proc
    that would grab the XML file and do inserts into a
    relational table. The XML file will change in the
    future and that means that all my 'canonical format'
    code will be broken. How do I deal with anticipated
    change? Do I need to define/create an XML schema in
    10g if am just inserting into one relat. table from
    one XML file?What does "The XML file will change in the future" mean? Are you saying that the structure of the XML document will change? Or that the data in the XML document would change? Your code should only need to change if the structure of the document changes, which should be exceptionally uncommon and would only be an issue if you're adding another column that you want to work with, which would necessitate code changes.
    I found an article where the issue of changing XML
    file is dealt by using a XSL file (that's where I'd
    define the 'canonical format'), but am having a
    problem with creating one, because the source XML is
    screwed up in terms of the format:
    it's not <x> blah </x>
    <x2> blah </x2>
    x2="blah" x3="blah> ...etc
    Can you point me in the right direction, please?You can certainly use something like the DBMS_XSLProcessor package to transform whatever XML document you have into an XML document in an appropriate format for the XMLStore package and pass that transformed XML document into something like your sample procedure rather than defining the xmldoc local variable with a hard-coded document. Of course, you'd need to write appropriate XSL code to do the actual transform.

  • How to populate a form from an xml file with multiple records

    I want to be able to create a single form that will add pages as needed based upon the number of records being imported from an xml file.
    I have an IRS form that does this exactly, but I do not know how to re-create it.  I entered data into the form, then exported that data to xml.  Then I opened that xml file in excel and added more records (this is just an easy way to manage the xml data in a tabular form).  Then I import the changed xml file into the IRS form and it adds as many pages as I have records.  Perfect!  Unfortunately, I cannot edit the form to examine the technique.  It does not appear to be relying upon any additional local javascript files.  It does use an 'add page' button which may suggest the form is using the template .spawn() technique, but when I try that in my own form, it gives me unique field names for each page which are then not consistent with the xml data.  Hopefully someone can help me understand what I am missing.

  • XML File Tags Validation Using Oracle.

    Dear Forum Members,
    I have a doubt regarding XML File Tags Validation.
    First I will explain My Requirement.
    1. I have to generate an XML File in a Predefined Format.
    2. User will add some data in the elements, or he may copy the same elements and change to some data like
    <Emp><Empno>10</Empno></Emp>
    The above tag will be generated by the application.
    User will copy the same and change to
    <Emp><Empno>20</Empno></Emp>.
    Now he want to Upload the Changed XML File to the Database table. This is done by parsing the XML File.
    The Creation and Parsing section is over. But before Parsing I want to check for the Validation of the XML Tag. i.e. whether the tag he has copied <Emp><Empno>10</Empno></Emp> is chaned by mistake to
    <Emp><Empno>10</Empno></Emps> or some other Mistakes.
    What I have to Do..
    Regards
    Madhu K

    I still think that my previous response is valid:
    If you e.g. include (concat) your DTD in your XML it will be validated against it!

  • Changing xwork-community-custom.xml file in Forums Application

    Hi,
    could someone give me details on how to customize the file xwork-community-custom.xml, to override actions defined in xwork-community.xml?
    My problem in detail:
    I want to delete the "My questions" area in profile view, because we don´t have a "question scenario" in our company.
    As it is no jsp file, that i can directly change, but a ftl file that is included in the forums.jar file I want to override the actions "profile" and "edit-profile", which are included in xwork-community.xml, so that I dont´t have to change the jar file directly . The file now looks like that:
    <xwork>
        <package name="custom-actions" extends="webwork-default">
         <action name="profile" class="com.jivesoftware.profiles.action.ViewProfile">
                <result name="success" type="freemarker">myfile.ftl</result>
            </action>
            <action name="edit-profile" class="com.jivesoftware.profiles.action.EditProfile">
                <result name="cancel" type="redirect">profile.jspa?editMode=true&amp;userID=${targetUser.ID}</result>
                <result name="input" type="freemarker">myfile.ftl</result>
                <result name="success" type="redirect">profile.jspa?editMode=true&amp;userID=${targetUser.ID}</result>
            </action>
        </package>
    </xwork>
    For that I copied this two actions in "xwork-community-custom.xml" and now want to change the value for e.g.
    "/templates folder.
    What do I have to write in the xml to reference to this file? In jive forum s.o. wrote to write only the the file name as reference and that this has the effect that ftl file fromtheme folder is taken, but that didn´t work.
    I tried nearly everything but it has no effect. I also restarted server etc.
    Every other change was no problem, and even if i place a ftl file in themes folder which has the same name as as JSP file the framework tries to render the ftl file, but in the other case no chance.
    Could someone please give a tip, how i can do my changes?
    Many thanks
    Best regards
    Alex

    for all who want to get a little bit deeper in Jive application, than configuring things with admin console....solution was the following:
    - look for ftl file in xwork-community.xml file, which is responsible for the specific action (in my case cp-tabs.ftl)
    - look for the path of the original ftl file in jiveforums-<version>.jar
    - extract ftl file you want to modify and do your changes
    - have a look into ..../com.sap.netweaver.coll.forums/servlet_jsp/forums/root/template if the path specified in jar file already exists (normally not). If not create folder structure. In my case I had to create forums/include
    - put the customized file into the new folder
    - restart application server
    --> "my questions" area in profile is gone

    For the last 5 years (and in IPCC3.x/4.x,UCCX/5.x/7.x) I've used the same basic subflow to read a XML document that contains holiday dates where the queue should be closed.  I've re-used this script on 20+ client installs and it's always worked.  The structure of the script allows you to pass the path and filename of the XML document as parameters to the subflow. (The document is in the repository)
    I loaded this script in UCCX 8.0.2 recently and it crashed with a Java.IO error.  It looked like it was trying to read the file system directly and not the repository. (In the Linux appliance model this kind of makes sense but why is the step trying to read the file system directly?)
    So I open a TAC case (SR# 615243125) and TAC tells me that the method of using the Create File Document step is not supported anymore and that I should specify the filename directly in the Create XML Document step
    The problem that I see (aside from having to edit all my scripts that use XML files) is that the Create XML Document step is looking for the input to be a type DOCUMENT and not a type STRING.  This seems to imply that I have to hardcode the document in each script that I deploy for a customer.  When it was a string it was easy to construct the full file path from parameters and pass to the subflow.
    Questions to the group
    #1 Am I missing something here?
    #2  Do you assume that you'll be able to load a script that worked fine in UCCX 7 into UCCX 8 and that it should completely function when you're doing everything according to the step reference documentation.
    #3 Cisco didn’t document this in any way that I can find.
    #4 How can you use the Create XML Document step in a fashion that would let you construct the path of the file and the filename previously in the script so you could pass it to a subflow ?  It would seem this functionality has been killed in UCCX 8

    The create XML document input can only be a type DOCUMENT

    #1 Am I missing something here?
    You are mixing two different issues together here.
    The Create File Document step is indeed not needed or supported for creating an XML document. That is why there is a unique step; to trigger XML parsing within the MIVR subsystem.
    Accessing the file system is restricted to a single folder within the VOS model (i.e. 8.0+). This folder is not backed up, replicated, or cleaned up automatically. It was intended to give developers some FS access as a temporary swap location only.
    #2  Do you assume that you'll be able to load a script that
    worked fine in UCCX 7 into UCCX 8 and that it should completely
    function when you're doing everything according to the step reference
    documentation.
    Assume nothing; read the documentation and attend one of the dozens of partner training sessions that CCBU put on advising of the upcoming changes.
    #3 Cisco didn’t document this in any way that I can find.
    You're right, I guess, on the Create File vs. XML Document step. AFAIK Cisco never wrote a notice into the Step Reference Guide explicitly stating that you cannot use the Create File Document although the documentation seemed pretty clear to me without it. File system restrictions are documented in the 8.0 release notes.
    Scripting and Development Series: Volume 2, Editor Step ReferenceUse the Create XML Document step to create a logical document that maps a document to another document variable (where the document has already been pre-parsed as an XML document and is ready to be accessed by the Get XML Document Data step).Use this step before the Get XML Document Data step to obtain data from a document formatted using the Extensible Markup Language (XML).
    #4 How can you use the Create XML Document step in a fashion that would
    let you construct the path of the file and the filename previously in
    the script so you could pass it to a subflow ?  It would seem this functionality has been killed in UCCX 8
    No it hasn't; just concatinate a string to build the Source Document parameter the step needs. Example:  "DOC[" + myFilePath + "]"

  • How to update/change the value of elements in an xml file?

    Hi Everyone,
    Could any one of u tell me how to update the value of elements in an XML file, using java? The reason is i want to use an XML file as a data source (i.e. more or less like a database), without using any RDBMS, for simple applications such as to read a record and update the record. By the way, my XML file will have only one record, such as the current weather information, with fields such as temperature, humdity etc. for 1 city only.
    Thanks in advance.

    Here is a solution how to check a particular value or element name in an xml and update the changes e to an xml.

  • Change font size in an XML file

    I bought a template and this page is the text on the opening
    page. The Title is bold and a bigger font than the next paragraph
    and the first line of the data is what I really want in the tittle
    but the line is a bit to long so I'm looking to change the size of
    the font. I see no code that makes the tittle bold and a bigger
    text so i'm thinking it must be tied to the template. Please if
    someone can help I would be greatly appreciated.
    It's been 15 years since I messed with a web page. Also one
    last question. Look at my site dkdaniels.com and the bottom of the
    first page left side where copyright is at there is a file called
    settings.xml and there is a place to change that info which I did,
    but also on the right it sasy designed by and your suppose to be
    able to imput your name and I see no such info in the settings file
    so does anyone know where one can edit that?
    Many Thanks

    An XML file alone is pretty useless. For the Web there
    usually has to be
    a script or a stylesheet to turn the XML into HTML which a
    browser can
    understand. So check that stylesheet or whatever else there
    might be.

    There's no content on that site. All I get is a blank/black

  • Wrong path changes in Itunes XML file

    hi there,
    My Itunes library (9.0.2) is stored locally on my macbook, although actual files are on a network attached storage that I access through AFP. This share is mounted automatically when the mac starts. Everything was working perfectly fine until a few days ago (no major change to the library or mac), when my iphone synchonization started to report impossible to read on the device files.
    After a few more investigations, I pinpointed some of the missing files, which were not missing but were replaced by other files (absolutely not linked to my media files).
    the <key>Location</key> in the xml file was, for example
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/David/docs/Me%CC%81dias/src/elodie2.jpg</string>
    where it should have been something like
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/David/media/music/albums/Damien%20Rice/9/09%20-%20Accid ental%20Babies.mp3</string>
    Does anyone have a clue about what went wrong and how to circumvent this in the future ?
    Thanks in advance

    Oliver:
    The simple answer is yes. Any changes you make to your RSS feed file (xml file) will eventually be updated by ITMS. Usually ITMS updates feed changes within 24 hours. However, the most recent changes I made in my feed files took almost 8 days before ITMS refreshed my listing.
    One issue is clear. If you make changes to your image file, there is a high probability that when ITMS updates your database record, your listing in ITMS will show the broken link image for awhile. I've changed my image file twice, and each time, my ITMS listing showed the broken link image. Eventually the new image shows up, but it does take a long time for this day and age.
    Good luck!
