Character set is lost during uploading file to blob?

Hi!
When I upload file from a disk to htmldb_application_files it is stored there as a blob. Then when I convert this blob to clob, with proper character set id as a parameter, characters in clob are not correct. They loose seriffs etc.
The question is : What happens with characters during uploading to blob?
Thanks!

    Hi,
There is no problem with download in above example. I have used Steve's example to upload, and solution delivered by Ric Smith on his blog to download files. I think there is something wrong with Steve's uploading solution. When I used Ric solution (he sent me by email complete JDeveloper project) to upload and download everyting works correct. I created last Friday SR on Metalink to review it and it's still in progress. My advice is:
    1) Look onto Ric Smith blog:
    http://thepeninsulasedge.com/blog/2006/08/17/reading-and-writing-blobdomains-to-and-from-an-adf-uploadfile/
    and
    http://thepeninsulasedge.com/blog/2006/11/06/adf-faces-and-adf-bc-fileupload-and-blobs-continued/
    2) Ask him to send JDeveloper project or update email to your profile - I'll send you directly this project that I retrieved from Ric Smith

  • Character Set Settings Affecting CSV Upload

    Hi,
We have a production issue that I need a little help with. Using one of the examples listed here I have created a csv upload and on our dev box its works fine however on production we have a problem on production.
The database is set to WE8ISO8859P1 character set but for some reason the web browser on production keeps changing it to UTF8 so for some of the characters it uploads are incorrect e.g. £ becomes £
I'm guessing this may be a set up issue as on dev this does not happen but I've ran out of things to check.
Automatic CSV Encoding is set to Yes on both envirnments
The following select returns WE8ISO8859P1 on both environments
    select value$ charset, 'sys.props$' source from sys.props$ where name='NLS_CHARACTERSET' ;
    select property_value, 'database_properties' from database_properties where property_name='NLS_CHARACTERSET' ;
    select value, 'nls_database_parameters' from nls_database_parameters where parameter='NLS_CHARACTERSET';
I have limited access to the system but what else can I check
    Thanks inadvance

    Hi Andy,
    1) You say that "you have created a csv upload". What does this mean?
    2) How are you loading data? Is it through Application Express -> Utilities -> Data Load? Or is this something you've built into your own application?
    3) What is the encoding of the CSV file you're using to upload data?
Automatic CSV Encoding only impacts CSV download from reports. It has nothing to do with data loading.

  • Character set conversion problem during upgrde.

    Dear Friends,
I am trying upgrade one of my windows database with version 9.2.0.5 to 10.2.0.4 on unix. I am following exp/imp. During import I am seeing followinig errors for couple of tables,
IMP-00019: row rejected due to ORACLE error 12899
    IMP-00003: ORACLE error 12899 encountered
ORA-12899: value too large for column
    IMP-00058: ORACLE error 1461 encountered
ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column
This may be due to character set issue, since database on windows has WE8MSWIN1252 and on unix it has UTF8.
Please let me know how I can resolve this issue.
    Regards.
    Mahdu

    Hello,
It's better that your Target Database is created with the same character set than the source one.
This is an option you can choose at the database creation.
If you have to stay in UTF8 on your Target database then, you'll have to extend the column size or, use the
option CHAR (as Unicode may use up to *4 bytes* for one character instead of *1 byte* for WE8MSWIN1252).
To use the option CHAR you may specify it on the column datatype, for instance:
    col1 VARCHAR2 (100 CHAR)Else, without this option, VARCHAR2 (100) means 100 Bytes (which can store 25 characters in Unicode).
You also have the parameter NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS that you can set to CHAR, but the export/import
    utility doesn't manage it well.
So, the safest way is to create your target database with the same character set than the source one
except if you want to migrate to Unicode.
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin

  • WRT160N V3 connection lost during uploads

I've got a WRT160N a few months ago and have then been facing the problem that, whenever I upload files with large sizes, e.g. a few MBs, through email, or Flickr, the connection between my iMac with the router (Wireless, N) would be lost, and the upload would not be successful.
I've upgraded the router's firmware to V3, but it doesn't help.
What can I do...? I don't know much of the settings in fact.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Login to your Router setup page and below change the MTU size to 1350 and click on Save Settings, Then click on the Wireless tab and below click on the sub tab Advance Wireless Settings and below Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now you can try to transfer the file between your iMAC and Router...
If still face the same problem, since you have uploaded the firmware on your Router, then press and hold the reset button on your Router for 1min and then unplug and replug the power to your router after 30sec and then re-configure all the settings on your Router from scratch.

    Hi All,
I am trying to upload file into Database using simple JHeadstart generated screen for a table with a column having BLOB attribute. Wile inserting, I get this error message.
JBO-25009: Cannot create an object of type:oracle.jbo.domain.BlobDomain with value:oracle.adfinternal.view.faces.webapp.UploadedFiles$FixFilename@1930089
    Any help would be appreciated..
    Mamun

The problem you're getting is because the af:inputFile component does not support uploading into columns other than OrdDoc, OrdImage, OrdVideo types.
I think you would need to implement the interface oracle.adf.view.faces.webapp.UploadedFileProcessor in a custom class which would
handle the file upload and configure it in the
    adf-faces-config.xml file e.g.:
    <uploaded-file-processor>packagename.FileUploadProcessor</uploaded-file-processor>
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, as I haven't tried it out myself yet.

  • What Determines the "File Character Set" on Export?

When we Export a Page, for example, from APEX, the File Character Set is defaulted to some value (and not editable). On some of our instances, this defaults to "Western European Windows 1252" while on others it is "Unicode UTF-8." Specifically, what setting is being used to make this determination? This is kind of a pain because we have some environments wherein we are promoting changes from environment to environment and these settings differ. If, during import, the user neglects to set this to the same File Character Set in which the file was originally exported, we get issues (non-printable control characters and the like). Therefore, we'd love to make all of the environments match but, aren't sure how to do this.
    Thanks,
    -Joe
Edited by: Joe Upshaw on Apr 10, 2013 3:25 PM

    Hello Joe,
In your environment, the character set of the APEX exported files is set according to the DAD character set, and with your APEX version, it must be set to AL32UTF8 (regardless of the database character set).
Re: Export - File Character Set list is read only (fixe UTF-8 value)
You should check the DAD character set setting in the environments in which APEX is not exporting the files using UTF8.

  • Oracle 10g db character set issue

I have a database 10g with database character set western
european "WE8ISO8859P1" and we are receiving data from source
database with database character set as "UTF8" during data load
for one of the tables we receive the following error "ORA-29275:
partial multibyte character" I understand this might be due to
the fact western european character set is not a subset/superset
of UTF8 .Am i right ? What would be the way around this ?

It is certainly possible that the issue is that your database characterset is a subset of UTF8.
How are you getting the data? Are we talking about a flat file? A query over a database link? Something else?
Does the data you're getting contain characters that cannot be represented in the ISO-8859 1 character set? It is quite common to send UTF-8 encoded files even when the underlying data is representable in other 8-bit character sets (like ISO-8859 1).
What are you trying to do with the data? Are you trying to load it into a CHAR/ VARCHAR2 column? A CLOB? A BLOB? An NCHAR/ NVARCHAR2? Something else?
