Charging from multiple computers without erasing my songs...

I want to be able to be able to charge my iPod by plugging it into any USP port on any computer without it being recognized / mounted / updated etc.
I want to be able to do this at work, school, library, friends' houses and so on.
Is this possible?

"plugging it into any USP port on any computer without it being recognized / mounted / updated etc."
The USB has to recognize it in order to power it. The USB port receives 500ma of power at all times unless you run your computer in a power saving mode where power is turned off to the USB ports. If the IPOD is set to run in disk mode it will merely show up as an additional hard drive and charge. If not set to run in disk mode it will be recognized as a portable media player and your Operating system will look for a driver to load and won't find it unless the ITunes disk has been installed.
So there's your answer.

  • Maintaining an iWeb site from multiple computers without MobileMe

    Hi,
I've chosen iWeb '09 to create the web presence for one of my hobby clubs (RC aircraft). The club doesn't have a MobileMe account, and I've used the FTP upload feature in iWeb '09 to publish the site. This has been working perfectly for me, but what I'd really like is to be able to continue working from either my MacBook or my iMac, depending upon my location. Sometimes I'm away from home and have some free time to update the site, but other times I am at home and I want to work on it from the big-screen iMac.
I realize that this can be done via copying domain files to a shared drive, and my thought is to share an external hard drive to both my network, and over the internet via an Airport Extreme. The only documents I was able to find regarding this referred to hosting on MobileMe. My only worry is that this may not be possible if I'm NOT hosting the site on MobileMe. In another life, I used FrontPage to publish such hobby sites, and it could work on the files from any copy of FP on any computer. Though I don't really miss FP as a whole, I do miss that feature.
Yes, I know it will likely be suggested that the club open a MobileMe account. I have one and I love it, but let's face it... 100 bucks a year is a bit much. The club's entire web hosting service isn't even half that.

Before I go off on a trip I upload a zipped copy of my domain file to the server. I can then download it onto another Mac in another location to work on it.
You'll find another method at the bottom of this page under "Updating your Website from Multiple Locations" .....

  • Is there any way to sync songs to iphone 4 from two PCs without getting any song erased?

Is there any way to sync songs to iphone 4 from two PCs without getting any song erased?
I want to sync songs to iphone using my laptop and office computer. Is there any way I can do this?

    No.  Pick one.

  • Upload songs from multiple computers?

Has anyone figured out if there is a way to UPLOAD songs from multiple computers. Note, I don't want to sync. I want to be able to plug my iPhone in at my office and put mp3s which I buy at work onto the phone. This works on the iPod, but not the iPhone as far as I can tell.

I'm also having this issue and it seem to be a silly limitation to me. Using the same iTunes account, I was able to upload music and apps from my phone to my wife's computer. However, I can't put any of the music on her computer to my iPhone....strange that it works one way but not the other. Both computers authorized using the same iTunes account. Never thought that it would be an issue, since I'm able to do this with my various iPods.

  • Why can I copy music to my iPad or iPod touch from multiple computers but from only one computer using my iPhone?

Why can I copy music to my iPad or iPod touch from multiple computers but from only one computer using my iPhone?
IPads and iPod Touches don't seem to have the same media copying restriction that my iPhone has. My main computer is at home. I have music at home and at work and sometimes I like to add it to my iPhone from work. I can do this no problem using my iPad or my iPod touch, but when it comes to my iPhone, I can only copy music to it from my main computer.
Why would the iPhone have this restriction but not the other two devices?
ps. Where's my "add currently playing song to playlist" button? I can't even find a third-party music app with this feature.

    Because...!
    I've no idea why either.
Although it isn't normally possible to sync an iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers (or manually manage an iPhone from more than one) it can be achieved if all computers have copies of the self same library. See Re: how do i sync on a second laptop without the data on my iPhone 5 being erased?

  • Family Pack...posting iWeb from multiple computers?

So I apologize if this is a silly question...but need to verify my hunch. If I purchase a .mac family pack, can we post multiple iWeb sites from each of our four computers to that .mac account? So the sites would be, for example, web.mac.com/smithfamily/amy, and web.mac.com/smithfamily/scott...and such? I guess the real question, is can this happen from multiple computers accessing the same .mac account without them overwriting each other's sites? Thanks.

    Hi Amy,
I think this probably remains to be seen.
If you are using iWeb1.1.2, I would say yes, you can definitely do this, as you have described.
If you are using iWeb2.0, I would say maybe not. 2.0 is publishing to a different directory on the iDisk than 1.1.2 did, and each publish to this directory, at least, from a separate/different Domain.sites2 file, erases the previously published site to the iDisk.
It is a good question whether or not this would happen with individual machines, publishing to the same .Mac account, and this would actually be very helpful information about what it is that is causing this problem, should you be successful.
I have two machines myself, and I publish to the same .Mac account from each; however, only one of them is using iWeb2.0.
I say give it a try, using the 60 day trial version of .Mac. If it doesn't work then you haven't lost anything. (Not sure if you can try the family pack in a trial version)

  • Manually managing music on iPhone from multiple computers

Everything I've read 'claims' this can be but I don't think the people who tell you how to do it even bother to see what happens.  This is one of the things that really frustrate me about forums.  It's the complete lack of thoroughness of the people who reply to a question without knowing the outcome.
It's a simple task.  I want to be able to move music from multitple computers to my iPhone.  When I go into iTunes and select the device, in my case it's the iPhone, and check the box to manually manage music and videos then click 'apply' I get a warning that everything is going to be erased from the phone.  WTH!?!  And no one on ANY forum who suggests this is the proper way manually managing music even has a solution to be able to do this WITHOUT erasing the phone.
C'mon Apple.  It's a SIMPLE drag-n-drop implementation.  How hard can it be?  I'm not the least interested in syncing with some music library on the computer.  In fact I don't even sync my phone with the iTunes Library.  It's a waste of time because I can't even selectively sync music.  It's either all or nothing.  STUPID.  I simply want to move music on and off the phone.  You know, drag into the window to add and drag off to remove.  And I want to be able to do it from any computer I want that's running iTunes.  I shouldn't have to copy music from a different computer, carry it home and add it from the home system.  That completely defeats the concept of portability.  And if my home computer happens to go south for some reason then what?  Even if I have all my music backed up, I have to wipe out all my music on the phone and start all over because I'm now using a different computer.  Who was the genius that came up with that ludicrous idea?
Apple you really need to take a page from Sandisk and allow iPhones to be treated as external drives so we can drag and drop our music onto them.  No muss no fuss.  Simple and clean with no hair pulling.  It's already established the you create some very pretty devices.  Now let's work on improving usability.  Because the way I see it, it's a bit backwards.

    Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers
Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans with iTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entires and import the local content you have on that box.

  • MY LAPTOP CRASHED BUT MY LIBRARY IS ON MY HOME PC HOW CAN I GET THE LIBRARY BACK TO MY LAPTOP WITHOUT ERASING THE SONGS I REPURCHASED

HOW CAN I MOVE LIBRARY FROM ONE PC TO MY LAPTOP WITHOUT ERASING REPURCHASED SONGS ON MY LAPTOP

I had the similar problem last night and found a solution (although it takes more than a few clicks).  Highlight all the album tracks in itunes on the pc and right click "get info". Check the artwork box in this window.  I found that the now playing art was showing up in the itunes window, but on songs that were missing artwork showed nothing in the get info box.  When I replaced the artwork by using the artwork command, or manually adding it into the "get info" window.  It was annoying but my iphone updated every album.

  • Help with uploading photos to iPod from multiple computers

I uploaded photos from my computer at home quite easily. Then I plugged my iPod into my computer at work, went to the Photos tab in iTunes, and asked it to sync photos from My Photos on my computer. It proceeded to delete all the photos I had uploaded from home. How can I prevent it from deleting photos previously on the iPod?
    Thanks.

You can't load photos from multiple computers. There's no manual mode for photos, just different ways to sync. Syncing on a different computer will erase what's there. You can read a bit more here: iTunes and iPod: Frequently asked questions (FAQ) about Photo Sync

  • Administrating iTunes Library by from multiple computers pc/osx

    Hello.
I need to find a way to administrate same Library from multiple computers. What I need is a opportunity not only to listen my media (that's why original iTunes sharing suit me), but to Add, organize, create playlists e.t.c.
I want my Playlists be available and editable ( ! ) for all my computers.
I want to add music from any of my computers and to have all the rest app to date.
All the data will be stored on a Server computer. So what the OS is needed for the solution?
In addition I have both PC and OSX computers at home and It'll be bettor if the solution will suit this.
    Thanks.

iTunes doesn't support this much syncing. Yes you can have all machines saving media files to same location (server) but each machine/account will have different iTunes libraries. Changes made on on will not be reflected on others. This is intentional so that different people would not interfere with libraries of other users.
This is especially needed for podcasts. Each account downloads/deletes podcast episodes independent of other accounts. This allows one to delete an episode without making making another account lose the file.

  • Putting music on from multiple computers

Is it ever going to be possible to put music on the iPod from mulitple computers without the songs that are already on the iPod being deleted?

yes..its acutally been possible..if you're using itunes 7..goto your ipod under devices then click on the summary tab..then at the bottom you're going to checkmark manually manage songs and playlists
basically this is going to change how the ipod will update..instead of your ipod automatically updating whenever you plug it in..you'll have to manually click and drag the songs out of your library and drop them onto your ipod under devices
NOTE: you can highlight mulitpule songs if you hold in the shift key while clicking on the songs you would like then you can drag that highlighted group and drop them onto your ipod under devices
if you want to highlight the whole library you can click on one song then goto Edit>Select All then drag the highlighted group to the ipod under devices
    hope this helps..

  • Synchronized playback from multiple computers?

My roommates and I have about 5 computers all over the house. We can all access each other's iTunes libraries, but we would like to all be able to listen to the same playlist or songs at the same time as we wander around the house. There must be an app out there that allows the simultaneous playback from multiple computers, so that every computer can be playing the same song at the same time, no?

It looks like I could play my music in VLC, then broadcast a stream over the network, however, this won't account for latency, and won't do any synchronization of the other computers. Plus, I'm not really interested in using VLC for playlists and organizing my music... Is this in the works at Apple, by any chance?

  • How do I sync photos onto my ipad from multiple computers?

My dad just got an ipad and we're trying to sync pictures from multiple computers.  He's already synced pictures from his computer.  But there are some pictures on my computer that he wants too.  Every time I try to sync photos from my comptuer to his ipad, a menu pops up and asks if I want to replace his existing photos.    I don't want to replace his photos with my photos.  I just simply want to add to his collection of photos.
Of course I can always transfer photos on my computer onto a flash drive and upload it onto his computer.  But I want to know if there is a way where I can sync photos from multiple computers onto his ipad without replacing his original pictures.. (and without using a flash drive or emailing pictures)
    Thanks

Only the contents of the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad, and not including photos in a sync is how you delete them from the iPad - so you need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad in one go. There are third-party apps for the iPad such as Simple Transfer that allow you to transfer photos to the iPad via your wifi network, but they will just go into the Saved Photo/Camera Roll album on the iPad - though with iOS 5 in the Autumn you will then be able to move photos between albums on the iPad
