Chart Builder with JSF

Hi guys I have this task: I need to display a chart for certain data.
For start I took one of the sample that came with the Chart Builder API, it draws the chart as a JPG image and stores it somewhere. Now I did the following:
1- Create a jspx page using the faces-config page.
2- Write the code that builds the chart and stores it in the application module implementation class.
3- This method returns the path where the image was stored.
4- Expose the method.
5- Drop the return value of the method (the return value is the path where the image was stored) on the jspx page as an outputText.
6- Create a invokeAction binding to invoke the method when the page loads: refresh = prepare model, condition = ${!adfFacesContext.postback}.
7- Drop an image component and set the path to the return value of the method: Src = #{bindings.createContractsChart1.inputValue}
Now when executing I have the following problems:
1- the method is executing twice (maybe because I droped the return value on the page, and I also made a invoke action)
2- the picture is not displayed, now I know that the picture is created, and the path is displayed in the outputText.
3- Now I don't know if you have the answer to this, I need to set the path where the image will be saved, in the sample they do the following:
File file = new File(".", filename);
and I get the following path:
C:\JDeveloper\jdev\system\oracle.j2ee.10.1.3.40.66\embedded-oc4j\config\.\contractsChart.jpg
Now I want to save the picture in something like this:
C:\JDeveloper\jdev\mywork\AdraApp\ViewController\public_html\images
but without the "C:\JDeveloper\jdev\mywork\" part because I don't know when the application will be deployed where it'll be deployed.
Thank you in advance for your reply. maybe if you don't have answers to my questions you can propose a better approach.

Ashraf
This appears to b e a bug and will be addressed

  • Integrate Oracle Chart Builder into APEX

    I'm lost with the current limitations of APEX charts. Does any one have any idea on how to integrate Oracle Chart Builder with APEX.
    Thanks

    Hi Jes,
    What I want to do is generate a chart dynamically. Ok, let me explain a bit more.
    I have a page which has a field say category. Now based on this category a report is generated (on another page say page2) when user clicks sumbit. The sql query which generates the report changes with the categories selected i.e. there is variation in the where clause or the base table.
    Now on this report I want to plot a graph (in the same page2). Is it possible to dynamically change the chart query also like the report query ?
    I was also thinking if it was possible to get the data directly from the report generated something like
    SELECT NULL LINK,
    #ENAME# LABEL,
    #SAL# VALUE
    FROM DUAL
    ORDER BY #ENAME#
    Thanks

  • Building code JSF with JSP

    Hello
    I'am trying to build a dinamic panelGrid. Look at the code below :
    <f:subview id="menuupheader">
    <h:panelGrid id="xx" columns="1" style="userheader">
    <% for (int i = 0; i<5;i++) { %>
    <h:panelGrid id="op_" columns="1" style="userheader">
         <h:panelGroup id="menuid_">
              <h:outputLink value="enlace" styleClass="enlacebarratitulo">
                   <h:outputText value="Opcion"/>
              </h:outputLink>
              <h:graphicImage value="/images/headermenuimgdiv.gif"/>
         </h:panelGroup>
    </h:panelGrid>
    <%}%>
    </h:panelGrid>
    </f:subview>
    The view in the browser is only one panelGrid. Do you know how can i do this works?
    Thanks

    i am quite sure this will not work
    unfortunatly jsp and jsf doesn't intergrate that well in 1.1 in 1.2 this should work fine
    from what i know
    the only way with jsf 1.1 to do something like that is to create a custom component to creat your panel grid multiple times.
    or you can try the 1.2 imp on the glassfish project ( never tired it but it was meant to address these issues)

  • Using Flex3 from Flex2 with chart building

    I just started playing with Flex 2 with Chart building. I got
    the paperwork to upgrade to Flex 3. What happens to the chart
    building component I bought with Flex 2. Is chart building built
    into Flex 3? Do I need to install that component?

    Don't worry too much.  I suppose I was being mean given you are new here. It is just that help tends to be better when clustered in one place.
    jacko wrote:I thought about doing this for myself at some point, there is a lot of things I just do not need that is compiled in by default which I could rid myself of but, is all the time worth it in the end? Would like to hear someone elses expertise on this issue.
    Well, you could also add in more optimization for your specific processor.  But I honestly don't think you need this for every package.  Perhaps the kernel, glic and a couple of other often used and big packages, but in the end it is barely noticeable given Arch is fairly optimized by default and can make you system less stable.
    The only real reason to recompile is to add/remove options.  If the option is easy to add and doesn't bloat the package. the devs will probably add it for you if you ask in the bug tracker anyway.  I think the only package I now recompile are mozilla ones because I want the branding.

    Please help me in configuring JSF 1.2.

    If you are new to JSF, then I'd try and simplify the environment in which you are working as the first step to achieving a successful outcome.
    JSF 1.2 is a certified and well tested component of WLS, so we know it works. I'm not sure of the effect of all those additional modules you are adding in there -- it appears as if you have gotten a Faces implementation instantiated, but there could be some form of version difference/conflict since it can't find a method its looking for.
    Using Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse (http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oepe/oepe_11115.html) you can build yourself out a pretty simple JSF application to get started from and deploy it to a WLS server. This would remove all the additional libraries you currently have, provide you with a bundled applicaton to deploy and give you a pretty good environment from which you can learn and experiment with JSF.

  • Stacked 100% bar chart - Problem with datatips for zero value data points

    I have a stacked 100% bar chart that shows datatips in Flex 4.   However, I don't want it to show datatips for
    data points with zero values.   Flex 4 shows the datatip for a zero value data point on the left side of a bar if the data point is not the first in the series.
    Here's the code that illustrates this problem.    Of particular concern is the July bar.    Because of the zero value data point problem, it's not possible to see the datatip for "aaa".
    Any ideas on how we can hide/remove the datatips for zero value data points ?        Thanks.

  • CHART BUILDER ERROR WHEN TRYING TO GENERATE DYNAMIC CHARTS ON A JSP PAGE

    I'm working with J Develop 9.03 on Windows 2000 Professional Edition.
    I'm using the JSP demo files provided with Oracle Chart Builder to generate
    dynamic charts. The user specifies the query parameters, including the date
    range and the query results are returned by means of a line chart (with date on
    the x axis and values on the y axis).
    When trying to compile the project I get the following error messages:
    Error(165,2): class FileOutputStream not found in class _graph
    Error(170,5): class File not found in class _graph
    Error(176,4): exception java.io.IOException is never thrown in the
    corresponding try block
    I checked to see that the chartbuilder library (chartbuilder.jar) files are
    loaded into the project library. It's unusual that the class is not being
    found. I don't understand why. I developed my project using the following steps:
    1. Unzipped Chart Builder installation files into c:\Oraclechartbuilder

    Hi mshah101,
    This can happen if the applet is compiled using an higher version of java and the browser is pointing to an older version (even if minor version number is higher)

  • Dynamic forms with JSF

    Hello guys !
    I hope you can help me. I am trying to do something with JSF, but I am not sure if JSF is the right approach.
    I am trying to build a dynamic web service, based on the information of a web service. That is I dont know the controls ( radio buttons, checkboxed, input boxes) , my form will have in advance, so I dont build any managed bean that maps all the controls.
    What I thought , it is to have a collection, which has the description of all the questions and posible answers, and dynamically go through the collection and build the form. (that is something I can do with datatables), and then when the user submits the form , in the action method ...I would recover the "answers" based on the ID or name of the controls, but for my surprise I cannot set the name of the controls with JSF , so I am clueless to send the answers of the form.
    I post the fill-up of the form to another web service which very briefl requires someting like this
    <answers>
            <answerid></answerid>
            <answervalue></answervalue>
    </answers>I might have the value , but not the answerid
    Thanks,

    or is there a way I cam force the id of a control ?

  • Chart builder finish but some threads are still alive ?!?!?!?

    Hello all,
    I'm using oracle chart builder for presenting data in my
    application. I use it after supplying its data for gif file
    generation. The chart is stacked bar but I don't think this is the
    problem.
    The problem is that it generates the gif file successfully but my
    application is still running after the main method is finished, I
    debugged it and I found about three threads are up:
    Thread[AWT-EventQueue-0]
    Thread[SunToolkit.PostEventQueue-0]
    Thread[AWT-Windows]
    I doubted my code - but I'm taking it copy paste from developer's
    guide - and I debugged another Java file from a sample that comes with
    the kit and the same problem happened ?!?!?
    Does anyone know y?
    I saw lots of SunToolkit.PostEventQueue-0 & AWT-EventQueue-0 problems, but I don't find matching my situation, nearly some mentioned problem in native threads or something, but I think the problem is related to AWT more

  • Chart builder stacked bar fill style pattern

    Does anyone know if chart builder support style pattern in filled area in stacked bar?
    i.e. stacked bar is filled with color, I need also to have line style in it plus the color. The line can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal.
    Any help, or anyone knows any library that support color with style color ( free or charged ).

    Depending upon your query structure, you can force a zero based centerline by setting the Y-axis ranges dynamically.  I am not working in 11.5.3 currently, but ran into a problem with line charts in 12.0.2.  The zero centerline flag did not work, so I dynamically generated the ranges and linked them in.
    You can probably do the same with a little extra BLS coding.

  • Chart Builder on JSP doesn4t work ! :-(

    Hello forum, I have a problem, I want to do graphics with the Oracle Chart Builder 10 kit.
    I read the doc and found information for install on ApacheJServ and use with JSP, the instruccions say :
    Install the Chart Builder library under Apache
    Copy the Chart Builder libary.
    For example, on NT, you may copy chartbuilder.jar to:
    e:\oracle\ora81\Apache\Apache\htdocs\WEB-INF\lib
    Restart Apache
    NT: % apache -restart
    Unix: % apachectl restart
    Note: apache and apachectl are located at $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/bin
    But, when i do this and restart the Oracle Http Service, the ApacheJServ doesn4t work, any jsp gime me an error messaje :
    Internal Server Error
    The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
    The ApacheJServ is not running :-(
    Can somedoby help me ?

    First off, put JSPs to the back of your mind. JSPs are for wrapping HTML around some data values. If you need to show generated graphics JSP will play a very minor role.
    When designing an application I typically approach from each end. What will the user see? Work out some steps the user will take to build his chart. This is the front end.
    Then consider the back end. How will your diagrams be stored, and on what kind of storage. You'll probably want a database to store them. What kind of structures? Then you work inwards to join the front end to the back end.
    Nobody here is going to design or build this application for you, designing and building applications is what we do for a living. If you want someone to do the job for you you want the rent-a-code site.

  • My doubts with JSF

    From what I've learned about JSF so far, it is based on really good ideas but it is extremely frustrating to use if you wanna do more than just a "hello world" application.
    Unfortunately, the reasons for my doubt seem to have made their way into JSF 2.
    It all boils down to this: Component creation is a mess.
    [1] casts and use of reflection everywhere
    JSF combines disadvantages of Servlet based applications (need to recompile and restart context after changes) with some of scripted applications (no build time checks).
    A lot of internal wiring is String based and cannot be validated at build time. Casts are needed everywhere, which has the same effect.
    Besides, this makes custom component code really ugly.
    [2] no good solution for component rendering
    - Servlet-style inline HTML rendering sends us way back to the 90s. Hard to write, hard to read, hard to maintain.
    - no support for HTML/CSS developers: they would have to work inside the renderer (Java code) but it's THEIR domain
    - no simple strategy for creating first-class composite components
    (by "first-class" i mean components with a Java-side behaviour (methods); Facelets compositions are cool but you cannot add logic)
    Please don't get me wrong - I'd love to use JSF but I'm not eager to recommend it if every developer in my department will hate me for it.
    So if anyone can show me that I'm wrong, it would make me happy!

    I don't know what your requirements are, but I have written a couple dozen JSF applications over the last several years.
    At least half of these have been commercial applications for the company I work for.
    Some have been very simple - maybe half a dozen pages or so, and some have been VERY complex - upwards of 30 or more pages with very complex logic behind the scenes.
    My background is from the application world, and I have been frustrated to some extent with JSF.
    However, being able to create a page with a minimum amount of pain and being able to tie them into the backing beans for complex logic has been quite useful.
    In several applications, I generate components dynamically in the backing bean code - that works fine.
    I do not create custom components, since I have not found the need to do so.
    All the basic functionality is in the standard JSF component libraries - although there are some things I would like to see.
    I have found some things lacking, when compared to a strict Java (Swing) application environment, but have usually found adequate workarounds.
    I have found that third party libraries - particularly ICEfaces makes the pages quite useful without having to do a bunch of JavaScript code.
    There are third party libraries with some pretty robust components.
    You may find that some of these have the functionality you need rather than developing your own custom components.
    I don't know your requirements for custom components, but if you can get by with the standard libraries, or third party components, I do not think you will find an easier environment.
    I am not sure why you are concerned so much about Casts.
    This is basic to Java and most other programming languages, including C, C++, C## and to some extent Fortran and VB.
    I guess some scripting languages are exceptions.
    At any rate, for Java based web applications, I don't think there is an easier environment.
    If you are going to be doing web applications, I think the only serious options are JSF or .NET.
    I've used .NET a bit (not as much as JSF) and, IMHO, .NET probably has more flexibility and more robust components, but it was harder for me to use.
    That may have just been the learning curve.

  • Radiobuttons with jsf

    Hello,
    Can someone tell me hints about with jsf and radiobuttons. I have data about cats in my backing bean (The data can be in a list implementation for example). I want to use radiobutton to select one of 4 cats and send that user selection and additional info to next page.
    I don't know anything about those cats before, only that in backing bean has cat name which I want to show next to radiobutton ( ItemLabel) and then I have another information about the cat like birthday and vaccination info. How should I make this happen?
    I use panelGrid with width 600 pixels. Then I want to use <h:selectOneRadio> with <f:selectItems> or <f:selectItem>
    Here is layout how things should be. R=radiobutton L=itemLabel(=cat name) I = info (Info can be 50-500 characters). Considering that I want to use table width in 600 pixels it is possible that info text is too long for one row (it can go to second row if needed)
    R L I
    R L Info can be quite long so it must be divided into two rows, but not mess with the layout.
    R L I
    R L I
    Is it possible with JSF to make a layout like this? How? Should I use datatable to show cat's additional info. It seems quite difficult to build layout like this. This is not a school assignment, only getting to know JSF and is it worth of learning.

    mordel wrote:
    So basically you are saying that it is not possible to create such a layout described in the first post with jsf standard components?It might be possible or not. I think it will be easier if you use the Tomahawk components.

  • Using Tiles with JSF

    Hi All,
    I am trying to integrate Tiles with JSF using the MyFaces components. I followed the following steps to use the MyFaces components in my web application:
    - Copied the jar files myfaces-jsf-api.jar, myfaces.jar, jstl.jar, jakarta-oro.jar, commons-codec-1.2.jar, commons-el.jar, commons-fileupload-1.0.jar, commons-logging.jar and commons-validator.jar to the WEB-INF/lib dir.
    - Removed the jsf-api.jar
    When I restart the my server I get the following error:
    com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener Can't parse configuration file:wsjar:file://WebContent/WEB-INF/lib/myfaces.jar!/META-INF/faces-config.xml
    com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener TRAS0014I: The following exception was logged java.net.SocketException: Operation timed out: connect:could be due to invalid address
    Kindly help me out. I am using WSAD 5.1.2 for development.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Saket

    Saket,
    you have to remove all files from sun, if you want to use MyFAces instead of RI.
    com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener is a ContextListener, that is defined in TLD files of the RI. And also remove jsf-impl.jar
    here is a running MyFaces/Tiles example!
