Check path type

Hello everyone.
I have a scenario where i have a field in the program which contains the file path(directory) name. I need to find out whether this file path name is on application server or PC.
Is there any FM for this...............or any solution for this.
kindly let me know at your earliest convenience.
Thanking you

hello guys
i have got this idea. But guess what if you have a directory mapped on your system then its name can start with D(some alphabit):.. or //..
Thank you.

  • Open File dialog window when setting the value of a path type input argument in a VI call

    Hi,
    I am new to TestStand (running 4.0) and I want to create a sequence of VIs to turn on, setup and measure a device. One of my VIs sends a configuration file to my device. An input argument to this VI is the path of the config file. I would like to make it simple to modify this path when setting up the sequence by popping up the File Open dialog window and choose my file. Is this possible? I do not want to manually change the file during execution, just to have multiple calls of one VI, each call opening a different file according to the path given to it during the setup.
    So far I have only succeeded in manually entering the absolute path each time I add this step. What makes it even more annoying is the fact that LabVIEW interprets the path with the escape codes, rendering the path unusable. Manually adding a 2nd backslash at each '\' occurence adds another step to the process. I tried both String and Path type of inputs, and the SearchandReplace() or ToUpper() (trying to bypass the escape codes) functions in TestStand don't seem to help m.
    Your help is very much appreciated,
    Fred

    Eudaemonic,
    If you want to create a series of easy to configure step types so others can develop sequence files easily, you could use custom step types. When you create a custom step type you implement your own configuration dialog. Since you have control over what controls you expose in your configuration dialog, you can design it so the desired path is selected using a open file dialog. Refer to chapter 13 of the TestStand reference manual for more information about custom step types.
    If you do not want to create a custom step type but you still want to give access to your sequence developers to pre-configured steps, you can use templates. A step template is a snapshot of a step that you can reuse later. Let's assume that instead of asking your users to edit the step to enter the desired path, you create several step templates with different pre-configured paths and based on their applications requirements they could use the appropriate template. Refer to the NI TestStand Help for more information about the Templates list on the Insertion Palette.
    Hope it helps.

  • Where to check UPDATE TYPE in Transformation in BI

    Hi All
    In BI , Where to check UPDATE TYPE( Like whether the filed/infoobject is overwrite or Addition ) in Transformation in BI.
    In BW 3.5 we can check this in UPdate Rule Maintanenance,but in BI where do we check the same.
    Shankar

    Hi,
    you can check Update type in transformation :-
    -->in target, double click on first Column (Rule Type)
    -->Aggregation
    -->you can see both Option (Overwrite, Summation)
    but when target is DSO. in case of Cube, you will have only Summation
    you can check the Update Type in DSO Update Rule as well:-
    -->in Update Rule, Single Click on Key Fig (Amount, Qty....)
    -->Update Rule :Details will come
    -->in that you can see, the Update Type Section has three option (Addition, Overwrite, no update)
    in case of cube you only have ( Addition, no update)

  • How to know or check the type of a field when processing a dynamic table?

    Dear all,
        When processing a dynamic table i have a short dump because of a convert_of_type incorrect, so i would like to check the type of field-symbol <f> before moving the data (type char) to this field-symbol <f>.
    Could you please help me how to check or get the type of field-symbol <f> (because field-symbol <f> is assigned dynamic, so this <f> can be type char, unit, or quantity, ...)?
    The source code same as below:
       ASSIGN COMPONENT lc_field OF STRUCTURE ls_data TO <f>.
       MOVE lv_field TO <f>. (Dump is here when lv_field is char type and <f> is quantity type => could i check the type of <f> if it's char type before using this instruction "MOVE ..."?)
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Vinh Vo

    Try to use this way
    WRITE lv_field TO <f>.
    Instead of
    MOVE lv_field TO <f>.

  • How to check the type of uploaded file

    Hi, experts,
    how can I check the type of the uploaded file? I am dealing with exception handling now: when user uploads a type of file which is not allowed, then error msg shows up. So first I have to retrieve the type of the uploaded file.
    Best regards,
    Fan

    Best approach would be to control the file upload program. Here in force user to chose only the kind of file supported.
    If you are using WD4A & fileupload UI element, then after user select a file to upload, before processing the file you can check the file name and get its MIME TYPE as shown below.
    example
    data type file string.
    data dot_offset type i.
    data extension type mimetypes-extension.
    data mimetype type mimetypes-type.
    file = 'Image.jpg'.
    " Find out file name extension
    find first occurrence of regex '\.[^\.]+$' in file match offset dot_offset.
    add 1 to dot_offset.
    extension = file+dot_offset.
    " Get mime type
    call function 'SDOK_MIMETYPE_GET'
      exporting
        extension = extension
    importing
        mimetype  = mimetype.
    later using if/else or CASE statement define your logic.

  • Checking data type compatibility

    Hi,
    Is there a method to check if two data types are compatible with each other? I need to perform this check without any value at hand. With a value it works if I create data references and assign them to field symbols. How do I make the same more generic with just the data type and length given.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    regards,
    nithya

    I have extracted the below info from a document that i have with me. Do provide your mail-id if you need the document. I dont mind sharing...:)
    Please check this for more understanding...
    <b>Type Checks and Type Compatibility</b>
    For historical reasons, the types of field symbols and parameters in subroutines or function modules can be defined with the STRUCTURE addition.
      If the types of field symbols are defined with FIELD-SYMBOLS <f> STRUCTURE s DEFAULT wa and they are later assigned a data object wa with ASSIGN wa TO <f> ... , in a NUP both statements are checked to see if wa is at least as long as s and wa satisfies the alignment requirements of s at runtime.
    16
    If parameter types in function modules or subroutines are defined with FORM form1 USING/CHANGING arg STRUCTURE s ... or FORM form2 TABLES itab_a STRUCTURE s ... and the parameters are passed actual parameters with PERFORM form1 USING/CHANGING wa or PERFORM form2 USING/CHANGING itab_b, the NUP also only checks if wa or the line type of itab_b is at least as long as s and wa or the line type of itab_b satisfies the alignment requirements of s. The same is true for function module parameters whose types are defined with STRUCTURE.
    The following extra rules are checked in a UP after defining the type with STRUCTURE when assigning data objects, that is for the DEFAULT addition in the FIELD-SYMBOLS statement, for ASSIGN, and when passing actual parameters.
    1. If wa or the line type of itab_b is a flat or deep structure, the length of s must be the same for the Unicode fragment views of wa or of itab_b and s.
    2. If wa is a single field, only the character-types C, N, D or T are allowed and the structure s must be purely character-type.
    Checking both these rules requires additional runtime. It is therefore recommended that, if possible, you type the parameters using TYPE, since the test for actual compatibility is much faster.
      If the type of an argument in a function module was defined with ... LIKE struc, where struc is a flat structure, the NUP only checks if the argument is a flat structure with the same length when the parameters are passed. In the UP, it also checks that the fragment views of the current and formal parameters are the same. For performance reasons, it is again recommended that you use TYPE to assign types.
      Furthermore, two structures of which one or both contain Includes, are only compatible if the alignment gaps caused by the Include are the same on all platforms. In the following example, struc1 and struc2 are not compatible because a further alignment gap occurs in the US before the INCLUDE:
    BEGIN OF struc1, BEGIN OF struc2, BEGIN OF struc3,
    a(1) TYPE X, a(1) TYPE X. b(1) TYPE X,
    b(1) TYPE X, INCUDE struc3. c(1) TYPE C,
    c(1) TYPE C, END OF struc2. END OF struc3.
    END OF struc1.
    Since the type compatibility can differ in a UP and an NUP, the type compatibility rules of the calling program are valid in an NUS for checking the parameters. This means that if an NUP calls a UP, the type compatibility is defined as in the NUP. Conversely, the Unicode check is activated if a UP calls an NUP.
    Kind Regards

  • Check file type after JavaScript File.openDialog()...

    So, I'm on Mac OS and want my script to obviously cancel on the "Cancel" bottle, as well as check whether the file selected was a PDF. I've had some success with the code below, but some of the PDF's I select get cancelled with this script. Upon checking, the FilePath.type property returns "????" for some PDF's - anyone know why?
    var myFilePath = File.openDialog("Please choose a PDF file...", undefined, false);
    if((myFilePath == "") || (myFilePath == null)){
        exit();
    else if(myFilePath.type != "PDF "){
        alert("Please choose a PDF file!") ;
        exit();
    I'm quite new to scripting. Thank you!

    Under Windows, all you can do is supply a file extension (the well-known "*.PDF" filter), and it's wise to always add the catch-all "*.*" for 'All files'. That way, a user can select a file even if it has the wrong extension (and in that case, it's the user's responsibility to make sure the file is of the expected type nevertheless).
    Under OSX, there are two options:
    1. The file has the correct "Creator/Type" metadata; and/or
    2. The file has the correct file extension.
    Historically, Macintosh-based OSes used option #1, and software was not expected to look at the actual file names. However, that soon became unworkable when people tried to exchange files between their Mac and (virtually any) other systems. That lead to various tools to 'assign' Creator/Type data to well-known file extensions, just so they could be opened with the right software on a Mac. Also the reverse happened; saving a file 'without extension' on a Mac was not a problem, but to open it on Windows you often had to add the right extension.
    So, somewhere around one or two System versions ago, Apple decided to go back to the old, trusted 'File Extension' way. But OSX still saves Creator/Type metadata for files created on your own Mac. Checking the "type" should work then -- but the problem is, what if you got your file from somewhere else? The extension may be correct, but if it has no file type, your script will not see it.
    Fortunately, the Mac OSX File Open dialog allows some pretty wicked customizations. Never mind a file filter, you can run a custom function that decides for each separate file and folder whether it should be selectable or not. The function has access to all file attributes; you can go so far as to checking the file name, and reject all files that contain a 'q', or files that are read-only, or files that are smaller than 1Kb.
    Check out this piece of code (I wrote it myself, but various hints and tricks were read on this very forum):
    if (File.fs == "Windows")
        pdfFile = Folder.myDocuments.openDlg( 'Load PDF document', "Adobe PDF:*.pdf,All files:*.*", false);
    else
        pdfFile = Folder.myDocuments.openDlg( 'Load PDF document', function(file) { return file instanceof Folder || (!(file.hidden) && (file.name.match(/\.pdf$/i) || file.type == "PDF ")); }, false );
    (I advise you to copy the Windows fragment as well, just in case your script goes 'round the world.)

  • How/ where to  check output type while saving sales order for confirmation

    Hi All,
    Could you anyone pls let me know How/ where to  check output type while saving sales order for confirmation.
    Present scenario : when the Sales Order is created the Order confirmation is sent irrespective of credit block of the sales order.
    Requirement : Order confirmation “ZA00” sent to the partner only for those Sales orders which does not have credit block and ZCLE sent to the partner if the order has credit block.
    Now i want to know where exactly to check the output types "ZA00" and 'ZCLE' based on the credit block to send the confirmation to partener.
    Quick help highly appreciated......
    Preetham

    Hi Santosh,
    Thanks for the info. But here in this case I have to send the confiramation based on credit limit check. If credit limit check exceeds "ZCLE' should go as confirmation else 'ZA00' should go as confirmation.
    Where can we check the credit limit whether it exceeded or not. My doubt is whether it is config issue or do we need to write code user exit or routine to send the specific output type for confirmation.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • How to check data type of the field symbol at run time

    Hi,
    My code is as following:
          LOOP AT <fs> ASSIGNING <wa_covp_ext>.
            ASSIGN COMPONENT 86 OF STRUCTURE <wa_covp_ext> TO <f_zzname>.
            IF sy-subrc = 0.
              ASSIGN COMPONENT 158 OF STRUCTURE <wa_covp_ext> TO <f_pernr>.
              IF sy-subrc = 0.
                  SELECT SINGLE sname INTO <f_zzname> FROM pa0001
                                WHERE pernr = <f_pernr>
                                AND endda GE sy-datum
                                AND begda LE sy-datum.
             ENDIF.
          ENDIF.
        ENDLOOP.
    This query is giving dump when <f_zzname> is type P length 8 and decimals 2, because it tries to put PA0001-sname into it which is type C length 30. So I want to check the type of <f_zzname> before the select statement. If it is character 30, then I will write the select statement else not.
    How to check data type of the field symbol at run time? If it's not possible, then can somebody suggest a workaround? Thanks.

    check this ...
    write describe statement  ...
    field-symbols : <f_zzname> .
    data : sname like pa0001-sname,
           typ(10).
    assign sname to  <f_zzname>.
    describe  field <f_zzname> type typ.
    write : typ. <-- typ contains character type in this case ..
    U can check if typ is of character(C) if so .. write the select statement ...
