Check Process memory consumption and Kill it

Hello
I have just installed Orchestrator and have a problem that I think is perfekt for Orchestrator to handle.
I have a process that sometimes hangs and the only way to spot it is that the memory consumption has stoped.
The process is started every 15 minutes and scans a folder, if it finds a file it reads the file to a system. You can see that it is working by the increasing Memory consumption. If the read fails then the memory consumption stops. The process is still working
and is responding but is hung.
I'm thinking about doing a runbook that checks the memory-consumption every 5 minutes and compares it with the previous value. if the last three values are the same then I will kill the process and start it again.
My problem is that I have not found a way to check the memory consumption of a process.
I have set up a small test, just verify that I get the correct process, with the activity Monitor process -> Get Process Status -> Append Line (process name).
But How do I get the process memory consumption?
/Anders

Now that I think about it a bit more I don't think there will be an easy way to set up a monitor for your situation in SCOM. Not that it couldn't be done, just not easily. Getting back to SCORCH. What you are trying to do isn't an every day kind of
scenario. I don't think there is a built in activity for this.
The hardest thing to overcome whether you use SCORCH or SCOM is likely going to be determining the error condition of three consecutive samples of the same memory usage. you'll need a way to track the samples. I can't think of a good way to do
this without utilizing scripting.

  • B1IF Memory consumption and SQL Release

    Hi All,
the problem i have at the moment is that SQL does not seem to release any memory of B1IF Transactional/SQL Query related usage.
Our 1 client is set on 40gb ram, 28gb of that  is used by SQL alone of which about 16 is SAP B1 Relating and the rest is due to B1IF Transactions and queries.
It seems like SQL does not release any memory, several posts i have come across relate only to memory management for B1IF(Tomcat6). but i cant seem to find anything relating to B1IF's SQL side Memory usage and ways to limit or recycle the unused memory.
this is causing our customers systems to start lagging and slowing down in general.
Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Gideon

    Hi Gideon
AFAIK you don't manage the SQL Server's memory usage on application basis. In other words: SQL Server knows best how much memory to use and how much each application should consume. In order to help your OS you should set max memory usage for SQL Server:

  • How to check the Memory consumtions and time taken by a Java Program??

    HI all,
I want to know how to check for the Memory Usage of an XML Parser.
See, a product was developed completely in DOM parser and now I am replacing that thing with SAX Parser Completely, because the DOM parser was taking huge memory as u may have guessed.
BUt the thig is that, now I want to check how much memory is being taken by the SAX parser alone and DOM parser alone so that I can compare them.
Can anyone suggest me how to do that ???
    Thanx in Advance
    Kaushik

    Thanx boss ..thanx a lot
I tried that, but in the API docs, it is mentioned that freeMemory()Returns the amount of free memory "in the system"
and totalMemory() Returns the total amount of memory in the "Java Virtual Machine".
So if I compare both the Values then would it give the Correct result to me ???? Beacuse the freeMemory() gives the data in terms of the Host System whereas totalMemory() provides the data in terms of Java Virtual Machine ..... are they Same ?????
I think I am clear in explaining what exactly is going on my mind ...
    Please clarify
    Thanx again

  • Solaris 8 processes memory consumption

    Hi,
I'm working with solaris 8 and I have the following problem. On a random base one of the users that are logged on the server starts a dtterm process that uses a lot of available memory and the only solution is to log out that user and then login again. I report the ps -eafl involving the processes

prtmem was part of the MEMTOOLS package you just listed, I belive it relies on a kernel module in that package and doesn't work on any of the newer kernel revisions. But it certainly works on 8, right? And that's the OS you were referring to, so I assumed you were thinking of something else.
    From that page:
    System Requirements:     SPARC/Solaris 2.6
                   SPARC/Solaris 7
                   SPARC/Solaris 8
                   SPARC/Solaris 9
                   x86 /Solaris 8
                   x86 /Solaris 9
So if that's what you want to use, go for it!
I thought freemem didn't include pages that had an identity, so there could be more memory free then was actually listed in freemem. What do you mean by 'identity'? Most pages are either allocated/reserved by a process (in use) or used by the disk cache. Under Solaris 7 and earlier, both reduced the 'freemem' number. Under 8 and later, only the first one does.

  • OVI Suite 2.0: memory consumption and disk activit...

    Hi all,
the new Ovi suite is consuming ridiculous amounts of memory:
    - nokiamserver.exe - 150 MB
    - Nokiaovisuite - 240 MB
    Come on!
in addition to this the nokiamserver.exe keeps the hard drive extremely busy in every boot for more than 20 minutes!
I have this latest OVI suite now installed now in my BUSINESS laptop and I just don't need or want mediaservers running in it. Just want the internet connectivity and occasional photo/message sync.
Is there a way to disable it and start it I ever happen to need it?
    JH
    Running on XP SP2

    Absolutely the same here.
It seems so avid of resources because it is in "Watchfiles" mode (absolutely consuming if you, like me, use OVI on a virtual machines whose folders (almost ever on VM) are located on a net share.
I didn't try it on a normal machine, but IMO if OVI have to handle large pictures/music folders its background watchfiles process do a hard job to monitor changes in real time.
So I launched regedit and removed (or you can leave it putting "REM" before the path) the registry key
    REM C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nokia\MPlatform\NokiaMServer /watchfiles startup
    that you can find here:

  • ORA-04030: out of process memory (PLS non-lib hp,pdz2M87_Allocate_Permanent

i am trying to validate a package body and getting the following error while doing that .
    Any sollution for this
ORA-04030: out of process memory (PLS non-lib hp,pdz2M87_Allocate_Permanent

    Hi Shakil,
    Error: ORA 4030
Text: out of process memory when trying to allocate %s bytes (%s,%s)
Cause: Operating system process private memory has been exhausted
Action: See the database administrator or operating system administrator to
increase process memory quota. There may be a bug in the application
that causes excessive allocations of process memory space.
*** Important: The notes below are for experienced users - See Note:22080.1
    Explanation:
The Oracle shadow process cannot allocate memory. The error
should show the number of bytes being requested and area where
    they are required
    Diagnosis:
    1) Check for a subsequent error, Eg: ORA 7324, to see where
    memory is being allocated.
    2) Check user memory limits and swap space. If these are too
low you may get the above error.
Eg: 'limit' or 'ulimit -a' on Unix.
    3) It may help to reduce <Parameter:SORT_AREA_SIZE> if this is large.
    4) Check if using the Parallel Query Option - if an operation is
being performed in parallel the memory requirements are greater.
    Best regards,
    Rafi.

  • Memory Consumption: Start A Petition!

I am using SQL Developer 4.0.0.13 Build MAIN 13.80.  I was praying that SQL Developer 4.0 would no longer use so much memory and, when doing so, slow to a crawl.  But that is not the case.
Is there a way to start a "petition" to have the SQL Development team focus on the products memory usage?  This is problem has been there for years now with many posts and no real answer.
If there isn't a place to start a "petition" let's do something here that Oracle will respond to.
    Thank you

Yes, at this point (after restarting) SQL Developer is functioning fine.  Windows reports 1+ GB of free memory.  I have 3 worksheets open all connected to two different DB connections.  Each worksheet has 1 to 3 pinned query results.  My problem is that after working in SQL Developer for a a day or so with perhaps 10 worksheets open across 3 database connections and having queried large data sets and performing large exports it becomes unresponsive even after closing worksheets.  It appears like it does not clean up after itself to me.
I will use Java VisualVM to compare memory consumption and see if it reports that SQL Developer is releasing memory but in the end I don't care about that.  I just need a responsive SQL Developer and if I need to close some worksheets at times I can understand doing so but at this time that does not help.

  • ALV SapGui Memory consumptions

    hi ,
we experienced when using alv-controls the memory usage of sapgui is always increasing, even when programs free the alv controls the memory consumption of the sapgui ist nearly the same as before - with sapgui Windows.
    any ideas`?

What version of the SAPGui are you running?  What Patch Level?  Memory Consumption and Leaks are quite frequently listed among the fixes for a particular patch level.  We very recently did testing with SAPGui 640 Patch 3 and did not see noticable increased memory consumption with ALV (At least not to the point that it was noticable in Windows Task Manager.

The below text is from doc id, I've picked solution part
    let me know updates
    =====Start======================
    Solution
    NON-ORACLE SOFTWARE STEPS
1.If you have 4Gb or less of RAM, add more RAM to the 32-bit computer system (add another 4Gb or more, if possible).
2.Enable the /3GB in the BOOT.INI, see note:
Note 225349.1 Implementing Address Windowing Extensions (AWE) or VLM on Windows Platforms
3.If using MS-Windows Enterprise Edition, enable Physical Address Extensions (PAE) by adding the /PAE switch to the BOOT.INI, see note Note 225349.1.
NOTE: The Windows tool Perfmon should be used in ORA-4030 problems on Windows. Task Manager is not a reliable tool to investigate ORACLE.EXE process memory size.
    ORACLE SOFTWARE STEPS
Steps for both Enterprise and non-Enterprise Editions of MS-Windows
    1.Check for excessive INACTIVE sessions:
    select sum(PGA_ALLOC_MEM) from v$process p, v$session s where p.addr = s.paddr and s.status = 'INACTIVE';
    If this query returns a large value (i.e. several hundred Megabytes or even greater that 1 Gigabyte), then it is recommended that you automate the cleanup of INACTIVE sessions. To see how this works, see notes;
Note 151972.1 Dead Connection Detection (DCD) Explained
Note 159978.1 How To Automate Disconnection of Idle Sessions
    Implement DCD & IDLE_TIME, by doing the following;
Set SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME = x (minutes) in the Server SQLNET.ORA file,
Create a PROFILE with IDLE_TIME set, and assign it to users.
If you find that the processes remain with status SNIPED, then you will need to implement removal of those processes as well, see note:
Note 96170.1 Script for killing sniped sessions shadow processes
For more information, see Note 601605.1 A discussion of Dead Connection Detection, Resource Limits, V$SESSION, V$PROCESS and OS processes
2.Review Note 46001.1 and determine the pro's and con's of running ORASTACK against the ORACLE.EXE.
If appropriate, shut down the database, and run the following command in an MS-DOS window:
    orastack oracle.exe 500000
    Re-start the database.
Steps for Enterprise Editions of MS-Windows
Determine if using AWE would fit your database needs. This allows the Buffer Cache component in the SGA to be relocated above the 4Gb memory footprint for the ORACLE.EXE process. Since this configuration requires a virtual memory window to map memory allocations above the 4Gb memory area, this option fits best with database requirements for a 1G and up sized Buffer Cache. It would not be efficient to have a 400M Buffer Cache above the 4Gb memory footprint and yet allocate a 1Gb virtual memory window to map to that memory.
1.Decide on the size of the SGA, PGA requirements and AWE (default 1Gb), given 300Mb overhead for the ORACLE.EXE and the 3Gb memory limit (as per the BOOT.INI /3GB switch). Please note that the minimum AWE size depends on the number of CPU's, see note Note 225349.1.
    - Grant OracleService<SID> the 'Lock Pages in Memory' system privilege at the operating system level, see Note 225349.1.
    - If necessary, change the Address Windowing Extensions (AWE) size from the default 1Gb, see Note 225349.1.
    - Adjust any of the other SGA memory settings; SHARED_POOL_SIZE, LARGE_POOL_SIZE, JAVA_POOL_SIZE & STREAMS_POOL_SIZE.
    - Adjust the PGA memory setting, PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET. NOTE: This is a target, so a decrease in this process will not directly affect the memory footprint of the ORACLE.EXE.
    - Unset SGA_TARGET and/or MEMORY_TARGET (11g).
    - Set USE_INDIRECT_DATA_BUFFERS=TRUE.
    - Unset DB_CACHE_SIZE. Set DB_BLOCK_BUFFERS to the desired size (this will use memory above the 4Gb range).
    2.Start the database.
Steps for NON-Enterprise Editions of MS-Windows
1.Decide on the size of the SGA and PGA, given 0.1Gb overhead for the ORACLE.EXE and the 3Gb memory limit (as per the BOOT.INI /3GB switch).
2.Adjust the SGA_TARGET and/or MEMORY_TARGET (11g), or use explicit settings for the SGA components and eliminate auto-tuning. NOTE: Advantages of auto-tuning are often minimal on Windows 32-bit due to memory limit issues.
3.Adjust the PGA memory setting, PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET (optional on 11g). NOTE: This is a target, so a decrease in this process will not directly affect the memory footprint of the ORACLE.EXE.
    4.Start the database.

  • Problems updating projects to new versions of Premiere (CS5 to CC and CC to CC 2014) Memory consumption during re-index and Offline MPEG Clips in CC 2014

I have 24GB of RAM in my 64 bit Windows 7 system running on RAID 5 with an i7 CPU.
A while ago I updated from Premiere CS5 to CC and then from Premiere CC to CC 2014. I updated all my then current projects to the new version as well.
Most of the projects contained 1080i 25fps (1080x1440 anamorphic) MPEG clips originally imported (captured from HDV tape) from a Sony HDV camera using Premiere CS5 or CC.
    Memory consumption during re-indexing.
When updating projects I experienced frequent crashes going from CS5 to CC and later going from CC to CC 2014. Updating projects caused all clips in the project to be re-indexed. The crashes were due to the re-indexing process causing excessive RAM consumption and I had to re-open each project several times before the re-index would eventually complete successfully. This is despite using the setting to limit the RAM consumed by Premiere to much less than the 24GB RAM in my system.
I checked that clips played; there were no errors generated; no clips showed as Offline.
Some Clips now Offline:Importer  CC 2014
Now, after some months editing one project I found some of the MPEG clips have been flagged as "Offline: Importer" and will not relink. The error reported is "An error occurred decompressing video or audio".
The same clips play perfectly well in, for example, Windows Media Player.
I still have the earlier Premiere CC and the project file and the clips that CC 2014 importer rejects are still OK in the Premiere CC version of the project.
It seems that the importer in CC 2014 has a bug that causes it to reject MPEG clips with which earlier versions of Premiere had no problem.
It's not the sort of problem expected with a premium product.
After this experience, I will not be updating premiere mid-project ever again.
How can I get these clips into CC 2014? I can't go back to the version of the project in Premiere CC without losing hours of work/edits in Premiere CC 2014.
    Any help appreciated. Thanks.

To answer my own question: I could find no answer to this myself and, with there being no replies in this forum, I have resorted to re-capturing the affected HDV tapes from scratch.
Luckily, I still had my HDV camera and the source tapes and had not already used any of the clips that became Offline in Premiere Pro CC 2014.
It seems clear that the MPEG importer in Premiere Pro CC 2014 rejects clips that Premiere Pro CC once accepted. It's a pretty horrible bug that ought to be fixed. Whether Adobe have a workaround or at least know about this issue and are working on it is unknown.
It also seems clear that the clip re-indexing process that occurs when upgrading a project (from CS5 to CC and also from CC to CC 2014) has a bug which causes memory consumption to grow continuously while it runs. I have 24GB RAM in my system and regardless of the amount RAM I allocated to Premiere Pro, it would eventually crash. Fortunately on restarting Premiere Pro and re-loading the project, re-indexing would resume where it left off, and, depending on the size of the project (number of clips to be indexed), after many repeated crashes and restarts re-indexing would eventually complete and the project would be OK after that.
It also seems clear that Adobe support isn't the greatest at recognising and responding when there are technical issues, publishing "known issues" (I could find no Adobe reference to either of these issues) or publishing workarounds. I logged the re-index issue as a bug and had zero response. Surely I am not the only one who has experienced these particular issues?
This is very poor support for what is supposed to be a premium product.
Lesson learned: I won't be upgrading Premiere again mid project after these experiences.

  • How to check the memory and CPU usage on NPU

    Hi expert ,
Could you tell me how to check the memory and cpu usage on NPU?
I think ASR1000 has this command (show platform hardware qfp active...) , but I coudn't find the same command on ASR9001.
I checked " show controllers np counters all"  command, but I did not find it.
    Platform: ASR9001
    version: 4.3.2
    NP: Tyhoon
    Thanks,

    Hi Kanako,
understand your question, but something like that doesnt exist for the trident/typhoon NPU's for the asr9k.
in fact cpu usage is not really applicable for parallel/serialized hardware forwarders, but mainly the KPI is here
    the PPS it handles.
The max pps it can handle is dependent on feature set.
What you could do is measure the rates on the PARSE_FABRIC_RECEIVE count (packets received from fabric, so egress direction), PARSE_ENET_RECEIVE count (packets received from the interface to the fabric, so ingress) and the LOOPBACK count, that is packets that are recirculated for extra processing. The sum of these 3 gives an idea of the PPS rate the NPU is working on.
Memory consumption is something tricky also, there are many memories attached to the NPU, notably:
TCAM used for vlan matching, ACL and QOS matching
Search memory for L2 and L3 (shared on Trident, separated on Typhoon)
Frame memory for packet bufferin in QOS
Stats memory, for all kinds of counters of QOS maps, interface stats etc
their usage is rather dynamic also.
The few things you want to verify on these are:
    - ACL usage (in terms of Tcam entries)
    - MAC table size (2M max on typhoon)
    - FIB size (4M max on typhoon)
frame memory is dependent on the buffering, which is a sum of all the packets instant queue length and size of all pmaps attached to interfaces served by the same NPU. there is no good overview as to how much you have available of that, but it has a rather significant size 1G or 2G depending on the TR or SE cards (typhoon specific).

  • Mac has become insanely slow : Processes SystemUIServer, UserEventAgent and loginwindow using a lot of memory

I have been using my Mac for for many months without any problem. But recently all of a sudden the Mac became insanely slow.
I opened Activity Manager to see what was happening. For three processes SystemUIServer, UserEventAgent and loginwindow, the memory gradually increases and reaches upto 2 GB for each process. This completely hangs up my Mac.
    I tried the following:
    Restart Mac
    Restart Mac in safe mode
    Manually kill the processes
Remove Date and Time from Menu bar (this was supposed to be the problem for the SysteUIServer process's memory according to many users)
Removed the externally connected keyboard and mouse(some had suggested this for UserEventAgent's memory)
No luck with any of those. The moment I log in, the memory spikes up.
Any idea what on earth is happening? Please help.

Create a new user account with admin status. Log out of your account, then log into the new one. Does your problem stop? If not then boot into Safe Mode. Does the problem stop? Boot normally. Does the problem stop.
If none of the above help, then you have a corrupted system and need to reinstall Lion.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Find network share process and kill it

    Hi All,
Is it possible that we could find open network share access process and kill it?
For example, user is opened a folder via network share (e.g: \\myserver\c$\myfolder). Is it possible that we could somehow query process to identify this open network share process and kill it before attemp to delete C:\myfolder? Please advise.

You could try checking for open file handles, as described here:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/317071/how-do-i-find-out-which-process-is-locking-a-file-using-net. They have both a solution using an external executable utility (SysInternals) and one using PInvoke. You could also use this other utility which is specifically
targeted at hosts of network shares:

  • Very high memory consumption of B1i and cockpit widgets

    Hi all,
finally I have managed it to install B1i successfully, but I think something is wrong though.
Memory consumption in my test environment (Win2003, 1024 MB RAM), while no other applications and no SAP addons are started:
    tomcat5.exe 305 MB
    SAP B1 client 315 MB
    SAP B1DIProxy.exe 115 MB
    sqlservr.exe 40 MB
    SAPB1iEventSender.exe 15 MB
others less than 6 MB and almost only system based processes...
For each widget I open (3 default widgets, one on each standard cockpit), the tomcat grows bigger and leaves less for the sql server, which has to fetch all the data (several seconds on 100% of CPU usage).
Is this heavy memory consumption normal? What happens if several users are logged into SAP B1 using widgets?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Sebastian

    Hi Gordon,
so this is normal? Then I guess the dashboards are not suitable for many customers, especially for them who are working on a terminal server infrastructure. Even if the tomcat server has this memory consumption only on the SAP server, when each client needs about 300 MB (and add some hundred for the several addons they need!), I could not activate the widgets. And generally SAP B1 is not the only application running at the customers site. Suggesting to buy more memory for some Xcelsius dashboards won't convince the customer.
I hope that this feature will be improved in the future, otherwise the cockpit is just an extension of the old user menu (except for the brilliant quickfinder on top of the screen).
    Regards
    Sebastian
