Checking book quality before ordering

Does anyone know how to verify that the PDF file transmitted when ordering a book accurately represents what you see when designing a book?
Why I want a preview of the PDF...
My order this year consisted of 3 large books and 3 extra-large books. Both were identical projects in iPhoto with the only difference being the size of the book. The large books arrived looking great and the extra-large books had 21 out of 30 pages that looked terrible. These were not issues related to the image resolution. I'm familiar with the little warning icon when images are too low of a resolution.
Customer service offered my wife a partial refund because they said that the PDF's on their end looked horrible as well and therefore we were somehow to blame. They suggested not using WiFi and closing all other applications before ordering.
I was livid because this is our 10th year in ordering books and we've never had this problem. I called to complain since our iMac isn't using WiFi and there's no way to check the quality before ordering. I can accept that the printing company isn't to blame due to the rule of garbage-in-garbage-out but I can't see what I could have done differently to avoid this.
I was given a full refund and advised to place the order again. I should then wait 30 minutes and then call with the order number and ask them to preview the PDF for me to make sure it looks ok. I'm sure this will catch any glaring problems but it doesn't seem very efficient. Seems like there should be an online preview capability.

  • Skype 7.x missing "Check call quality" icon

    Hi,
In old version, next to the "add participants" icon, it have a call quality check icon, which i can check the "Connection speed in between me and other side.
In new Skype 7.x, i cannot find anymore, only found this icon when already startup the call.
Where i can check call quality before the call startup

Try to reset all Skype settings.
Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.
Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.
    Restart Skype.
N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

  • HT3412 Last night I proofed my book before ordering.  Larry L.  was a great help.  Now I need to insert text under two pictures but have not been successful.  The rest of the text in the book is visible.

Last night I proofed my book before ordering.  Larry L's directions were perfect.  How do I correct for the missing text.  All text shows with the exception of two pictures.  Don't want to order the book without the text.

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file delete the contents the following folder:
    User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

  • ATP Check API before Order Import API

    Hi, All
Does anyone have information of the following processes?
ATP Check API before Order Import API
I neve use ATP Check API before, It would be great help if someone can provide any inputs for this.
    Thanks,

ATP API can be used for scheduling.
    API name: MRP_ATP_PUB.CALL_ATP
MRP_ATP_PUB is a public API so it should have all validatations etc. Explore above API and you should be able to write some good package for scheduling or ATP.

  • How do I make a copy of book draft to show MIL before ordering?

Hi, I need to make a copy of my iphoto book draft to show my mother-in-law before ordering. I know there's a way to do this, as I did it years ago with another iphoto book. However, I cant remember and I cannot seem to find a recent discussion about it on the boards.
She can't come to my house to view it. Can I burn it to a disc (?) to take over to her house (she also has a Mac) to view? Or do I have to save it, take it to Staples, and print it out? How do I save it on a disc?
    Thank you!
    CJ

Save it as a pdf. Right click in the window when viewing the book.

  • Checking Rule for Process Order

    Hi Guys
I am using the standard checking rule for Process Order while releasing. This rule considers the quality blocked stock also as available stock and thus release the Process Order.
However the client does not want to include the quality block stock for process order. My question is:
    1. If I create a checking rule which does not consider quality stock as available, and attach it to release of Process Order, will it make any change in MRP run?
    2. Is there a means to show a warning message while release of process order to show the stock is in quality block state?
    3. Is there any other means to alarm or warn the user before release of Process order about the material quality block state?
Appreciate you help / suggestion on this
    Thanks in advance
    Rahul

    Hi,
Regards the stocks during MRP run, you can do it in tow areas
    1. In OPPI, you can define whether Stockin transfer/blocked/restricted stocks can be taken into account for MRP run.
    2. You can exclude storage locations in MRP run and assign the MRP storage location indicator as 1 in MRP 4 view.
Apart from this the MRP will consider all stocks and requirements.
If you don't want to consider QI stock (for ex) then you can convert them as blocked stocks or you can move to a storage location which is not assigned to the MRP.
    Thanks,
    JK

  • Very disappointed with photo book quality

I created and ordered a photo book using Aperture and am extremely disappointed with the quality. The opening page has a spot of red ink on it with vertical red banding through the center of the image. Many other pages also have the banding.
Most of the images are also very grainy. I know the source images are not at fault, they are very smooth and look nice on my monitor and when I print them. In fact I ordered a few prints through Aperture and they came out really nice. The grain pattern is the same for both full page prints and those that are sized down to about 2x3.
On top of that, the paper quality seems worse than previous books I have created using iPhoto. I was always happy with those books, and I assumed Aperture would be the same if not better.
The books I created with iPhoto were with jpeg images from the same camera, a rebel xt. The only difference this time was most of the images were shot as raw. There was also a small handful jpegs shot with a point and shoot and these have the same grainy pattern as the the raw images.
I sent an email to Apple support, but are others still having book quality issues with the latest version of Aperture 2? This is unacceptable, especially for the amount that is charged. Would it have been better if I exported the images as jpegs, imported them into iPhoto and created the book there?

    Hi guys,
I got a real trouble with aperture book printing.
The cover is Ugly it looks like it's scratched over some miles. It's Mate. And it looks printed with a poor inkjet printer.
Inside the book the photos looks almost correct but in the skies we can see some vertical line. I'm fully unsatisfied I got better result with iphoto books !
Please Apple do something. I ordered this book from France. Ans I saw on different forums that they can get better quality than this outside France.
    The paper looks very light.
I'm considering ordering books from blurb. And I feel sorry cause aperture tool to create a book is awsome.
Did any french photograph experienced this ?
    Regards every one.
    Bye.
PS : I printed the pdf and checked at 100% the photos looks great.

  • To book a production-order as finish

    Hi,
I have the problem that that our (obsolete)production-orders still appears
    in the dispo-list!
Now I read, that the Controlling have to "book" the production order as
    finished (or similar else).
In which transaction-code(CO) can I book orders as "finished"!

    Hello
    Check
    Scheduling margin key
The float before production, float after production and the relea se period are defined in the scheduling margin key (Customizing for Shop Floor Control, by choosing Operations ® Scheduling ® Define Scheduling Margin Key) . The scheduling margin key is assigned to the material ( MRP area in the material master) and is transferred when the production order is created. These values can be changed in the production order.
    When is an order scheduled?
When you create a production order it is always automatically scheduled. In the scheduling parameters (Customizing for Shop Floor Control by choosing Operations ® Scheduling ® Define Scheduling Parameters) you can define that, after every change relevant to scheduling, the production order is also automatically rescheduled before saving ( Automatic scheduling indicator) .

  • Availablity Check with Third Party Orders

We have inventory on hand (from returns- customers refused order or canceled order at the last minute) and would like to do a check on inventory before the purchase req is created. Is there any automated way of doing this? I know that I could change the item cat on the material master, but this is difficult because there are many third party products that we sell. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
first u maintain item category determination for both TAN,TAS.during sales order creation if system does not confirm the required quantity after carrying out availability check then u change the item category to TAS system automatically creates purchase requisition, any how we have to change the item category in the sales order when ur treateing a material as both normal item and some times third party item.

  • Credit Limit check message in sale order

At the time of sale order creation, just before saving the sale order want to check the Customer credit limit.
It should include the current order value also and populate an informational message
' % credit limit has veen used'.
Searched SDN and found the user exit 'LVKMPFZ1'  subroutine  'USER_CREDIT_CHECK1'. Tables KNKK stores the credit limit value but how to calculate the limit used inclusive current value.
    Kindly help.
    annie
The main concern is the message comes as we enter sold to party and press enter. It should come when we enter the quantity in the order so that it can calculate the current order value also.

    hi
pls check if you have maintained credit master for the customer at "FD32".
if yes, also check if you have enabled dynamic credit check "d" both in order type as well as 'OVA8"
also check if your pricing procedure "Total" row has "A" in the subtotal column.
    revert if it works.

  • I have finished my iBook but want to change the size before ordering. Is it possible

Finished book.  Can the size be changed before placing order?

Sure - what version of iPhoto? Ad is OS X 10.4.8 as you state correct?
Assuming it is not and you have iPhoto '11 then you simple select the book and duplicate it (Command D), open the copy and click on "change theme" and select the same theme and the new size -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
the preview is critical since with a new size text may reflow

  • Not able to book a retrobilled order.

Retrobilled order is not picking up unit selling price from the price list and therefore is not booking.
Retrobilled order generated with retrobill concurrent program. Trying to enter unit list price and book it but not able to enter the unit list price.
Not able to complete the order. This order needs to be retrobilled asap.

Check the dispatch time set for the output type.
    Go to VA02->Menu Extras -> Output ->Header -> Edit.
Check the value assigned in the column Date/Time. It may be assigned with 1 or 2. Change that to 3 or 4 and check.
The output master records can be changed in t.code VV12.

  • Photo books and page order

Ok i have a question about the page order on the photo books you make with iPhoto. Cover is.. a cover, then is Page 1 the page right behind the cover or the following one? On the book I've made page 2 and 3 look like as they are on the same side but if page 1 is the one behind the cover then the order should be like that : Page 1 & 2 go together, then Page 3 & 4 etc. I don't know if I made myself clear. I just want to make sure I've organized my book the way I want it to be.
    Thanks in advance.

It is a book - when you open it odd numbered pages on on the right and even numbered pages on the left - same as every professional book made
Page 2 is the back side of Page 1, etc.
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
The preview will show the exact layout

  • How to get pre-calculated tax detail before order entry.

    Hello,
Is there any API to get TAX detail that applied on order before order book.
We need pre-calculated TAX amount before order entry and that we have to pass to customer when they search for item on website.
Please advice if have any script available.
    Regards,
    Akil.

    Hi Akil,
no, we have not found a "standard" solution. We have made some customization that calculates some "estimated Tax" and prints in on the Order Acknowledgment. But nothing within the system itself, unfortunately.
Do you get an estimated Tax calculated when you book your order? If yes, then perhaps you should think about changing your process and get the orders booked?
    regards,
    David.

  • Exporting iphoto book quality

What is the quality of the photos exported to PDF from iphoto? I'm having a professional lab print up my photo book but I would like to select them from iphoto and give them a general idea of layout using the photo book in iphoto. However, I'm concerned about giving them the highest quality photos. It would be much easier to select the photos in iphoto book and burn to disc than finding and exporting.

    scubanut:
Are you going to provide the layout to the printer in the form of a pdf of the book?
From what I've gathered iPhoto uses 300 dpi for it's books. If you look at the iPhoto preference file with Pref Setter and search for dpi you can see the settings for the various sizes of books.
There are several good threads on Apple's book quality, materials, etc. I asked Apple about book quality back when iPhoto 6 was the latest version and here's their response to me:
I contacted Apple and asked for information that I could pass on. Here's the reply I received from Apple:
"Thank you for contacting the Apple Print Products Customer Service.
I understand that you would like to know the printing process that is used and the color mode the files should be in, so you can better advise users in the iPhoto forum.
iPhoto version 4 or later, allows you to import and print files through the Apple Print Product service as RGB, grayscale, or CMYK color space. JPEG files with RGB color space are recommended for best results.
While iPhoto 2 can import files of various formats, including RGB color, grayscale, and CMYK, this version requires JPEG files with RGB color space when printing photos and books.

For more information regarding iPhoto 5, please visit the following article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=165501
Here are some of the technical specifications for the books, cards, and calendars. I hope this gives you an idea about their quality and form.
    BOOKS
All iPhoto books are printed using acid-free paper for long-lasting image quality. The photos are printed at a high resolution (300DPI if you use iPhoto 6). There is no external modification--such as sharpening or contrast adjustment--of the photos; what you see in the application is what is printed in the book.
    Hardcovers Books
The cover is hard-bound and covered in linen. You select the linen color during the book-ordering process. The hardcover books have a solid, stiff binding that is glued and crimped. The internal pages, measuring 8.5 x 11 inches, are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock.
    Softcover Books
The softcover books come in three sizes:
    - Large 8.5 x 11 inches
    - Medium 6 x 8 inches
    - Small 2.6 x 3.5 inches
All of the softcover books have internal pages that are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock. The large softcover book has a white cover (Kromekoteplus Folding Cover, 16 point) with a cutout on the front that reveals the cover-page photo in the book. The covers for the medium and small softcover books have the cover image and title printed directly on the cover. All of the softcover books have a glued binding and feature a thick cover of McCoy 100# Cover Gloss paper stock.
    CARDS
All cards are printed on McCoy 120# Silk Cover paper stock. The postcards measure 4 x 6 inches, and the greeting cards measure 5 x 7inches.
    CALENDARS
All calendars measure 8 x 10 inches and are printed on McCoy 100# Silk Cover paper stock.
To ensure the best print quality, we have chosen to use Kodak NexPress technology. The press uses a dry toner, which is fused to the surface of the paper. Please see NexPress' site for more information:
KODAK NEXPRESS 2500 Digital Production Color Press
I hope you find this information helpful in answering questions on the iPhoto forum."
Also, see Dusky's response in this thread. He's a ditigal press operator and gives some insight on how the books are printed. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3751865&#3751865.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
