Checking scsi adapter on a v440

Hi all!
Is it possible to check what scsi adapter card is in the v440 without having to open it? Checked the cfgadm command without any luck.
The thing is that we are going to buy a new RAID-box to it and the seller stated that we need to buy an extra PCI SCSI card to get 320MB/s. Though, I think there is already a Ultra-4 SCSI card in it doing 320MB/s which I also read in every single manual for this machine. And I do not think Sun sold an older revision of it with a Ultra-3 card right?
yours,
/robert

If you wait for the next scheduled service window that gives you downtime,
you can get actual part numbers from each component and avoid confusion.
But if you must attempt to gather information before that opportunity,
you could go through the PRTDIAG output and use experience to decipher what is reported.
Or, you could go through a PRTCONF output, line by line, and try to figure it out.
An then, you could go through your MESSAGES files, again line by line,
and compare that information with what you expect to find.
There are a few Sun systems, and the V440 may be complex enough,
with enough seeproms in its circuit designs,
where the PRTFRU command gives you output.
prtfru is a non-invasive command that can show a very verbose report.
(I cannot recall if there are any man pages for it.)
There is a fully functional SCSI3 PCI card in Sun's product line.
Part number 375-3057 (X6758a) would function very well in that platform.
The dual-ported HBA is on the V440's qualified components' list:
http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/SunFireV440/components.html#SCSI
It can be configured for either S/E or for LVD peripherals.

  • Help with settings / tips for ratoc fr1sx firewire - scsi adapter

I'm hooking up a Quantum DLT 7000 using the ratoc firewire to scsi adapter and I think a few people on this board have been through the process, which I've read can be a bit of a hassle.
I was hoping soemoine might be able to share what settings ultimately worked for them on the fr1 utility or any other tips they may have for using this kind of setup.
    thanks

Sorry Scott - you're not getting the responses for this at all... I don't use a Ratoc adapter, but have considered it. I do recall Trai talking about this particular adapter some time ago now, and the fact that the slightly older driver was more reliable than the newer version. Whether or not that situation has since changed I can't say.
The error message you are getting might indeed be referring to the driver for the Ratoc adapter - is there an older driver available on their website at all?
You might try contacting Trai directly to see if he can shed some light on this - as far as I know the adapter isn't widely used, although some folk must be using it, I'd have thought.
A final thought is to see if you can find someone who has a DLT drive connected to a G4 or 5 and ask them if they can read the tape back in to verify the info is written to it correctly. My guess is the Ratoc driver writes out fine, but struggles to import it all back in...
    Good luck!

  • BUG! Unable to modify SCSI Adapter type in (ESX) VM Properties through SCVMM2012R2

    Hello,
I am doing a proof on concept with SCVMM in our ESX environment. We are running the following:
    vSphere Client 5.1.0 Build 1471691
VMWare vCenter Server Version 5.1.0 Build 1473063
    ESX host(s) Version 1900470
This is a show stopper for me. I discovered this issue when deploying a new VM and the machine would BSOD at bootup. I discovered that the SCSI type had switched itself to LSI Logic Parallel when it should be LSI Logic SAS. I shut the VM off, changed the
adapter type (in vCenter) back to LSI Logic SAS and turned the VM Back on. It worked fine.
I then attempted to modify a current VM that was off. I can change the SCSI adapter type to any other type in VMM; however, when I go into vCenter, the adapter does NOT change. It appears that changing the settings in VMM has NO impact on the VM. I can change
other properties without issue (# or CPU's, amount of RAM) and that works fine. I am at a standstill. Please resolve this issue ASAP.
    Thanks,
    Dan

the ability to build a VM in an ESX environment w/ VMM should be considered a basic task. In fact, I have seen people say that they have been successful in doing so. I'd love to get more information. The LSI Logic SAS SCSI adapter is the preferred adapter
for all Windows VM's. If VMM does not support that, then it does not support building a VM. It is bad enough that VMM can not create a VM with a VMXNET3 NIC, which should also be considered a base minimum capability. These are fundamental flaws w/ VMM in its
ability to support VMWare environments and should be fixed ASAP. Otherwise, VMM is useless in an ESX environment.
The documentation I have seen from VMWare basically says that VMM does not do what it says it can do. I'm starting to believe that. If you know of something else, can you please provide a link?
What concerns me is the lack of participation from MSFT in this forum. What does this say about the future of MSFT's interest in support VMM across multiple hypervisors?

  • Old umax-scanner with isa/scsi-adapter

    hallo arch-linux-user
since some weeks I'm owning an old umax-Scanner "ASTRA 1200S" together with
    the fitting isa/scsi-card.
    man sane-umax told me:
The ISA-SCSI-adapters that are shipped with some Umax-scanners are not
supported very well by Linux (I suggest not to use it), the PCI-SCSI-
adapters that come with some Umax-scanners are not supported at all (as
far as I know). On other platforms these SCSI-adapters are not sup-
ported. So you typically need to purchase another SCSI-adapter that
    supported by your platform.
    So here are my questions:
    1. it's doesn't make sence to spend too much time to get this old
isa/scsi-card to work? I have to configurate my own kernelsettings to get
the fitting modules? (this includes the download of the kernel-sources for
me as a dialin user, and btw. I've never done a kernelcompilation before )
    2. I found a pci/scsi-adapter from Adaptec AVA-2906. Is this adapter working
    together with my kernel26-beyond?
    thanks for any reply
    ToLo

after googlin' around I found here
    http://www.mjmwired.net/kernel/Document … ic7xxx.txt
the answer to my questions 2.
The hostcontroller Adaptec AVA-2906 is well supported by the linux-kernel.
My first question is from no interest anymore.

This might help us figure out if the other device can get its IRQ changed to free up the IRQ in question, so that the SCSI can have it to its self.
And you do have the onboard terminator turned on in the BIOS correct?   IF I read the manule correctly you will want it turned on and remove any terminator connected to devices on the SCSI chain.

  • DiscRecording with Ratoc FR1SX Firewire- SCSI adapter and TEAC CDR-58S

I am trying to burn CD's with a TEAC CDR-58S (Firmware 1.0P) through the Ratoc FR1SX (Firmware 1.33)
OS X DiscRecording won't let me perform this task.
DiscRecording fails immediately with the message
"Burning the disc failed because communication to the disc driver failed. (Error code 0x80020022)"
This happens on OS X Panther 10.3.9 and Tiger 10.4.5
Using 'drutil getconfig' from the terminal gives following message:
    Vendor Product Rev
    TEAC CD-R58S 1.0P
    Media: Busy
    _DRDeviceGetConfiguration returned 2147614753 (-2147352543 0x80020021)
    GetConfiguration returned 0 bytes.
    Current Profile: 0
    Device Config complete.
Reading from CD's works flawlessly by the way.
I checked for correct termination and term powering, also the SCSI IDs are correct. Furthermore I tried several configuration settings
It looks like the DiscBurning framework sets some wrong information into the 'cdb' when issuing the SCSI "GET INFORMATION" call.
Does anybody use a Ratoc FR1SX and got it working with a TEAC CDR-58S?
    Thanks,
    Olli

  • USB to SCSI Adapter - Anyone have one?

I'm trying to find one that works. I need to connect an Epson Expresson 836XL large format scanner to my iMac, and this is the only way.
I'm looking for an OS 10.5.x compatible adapter that has a 50 pin SCSI interface on one side and (USB 2 preferrably) on the other. I'm not sure of the exact SCSI type though.
George Peters found this one for me, but perhaps there are alternatives?

    Thanks. ~Kort

    Good news everyone!
I bought it and installed it (with a 50 pin port adapter) and am pleased to say that the the Ratoc FR1SX is compatible with the Epson 836XL scanner using the latest VueScan software. And the optional power supply in not necessary. It took a few restarts and some playing with the supplied driver software supplied by Ratoc on a CD, but it does now work smoothly.
I am thrilled. It scans images beautifully, perhaps better than when attached to the old G4. And it is faster as well. For about $150 I know have a working 13x19 scanner instead of having to get a new one for $2000 or more.
So yes, there is a *SCSI to Firewire adapter* out there that works in OS 10.5.2.
    Spread the good word...

  • Belkin F5U541 FireWire to SCSI Adapter

I was using the Belkin adapter on a G4 iMac running Tiger. Now, I'm on an Intel iMac (21.5") running Snow Leopard.
So far, I've had no luck using this device. I can't seem to find a driver available; there is nothing on the Belkin site for any OS-X. Can't quite recall how I set up the older iMac years ago. But, I'm sure it was a PowerPC driver.
Idea on how I might be able to get this going. This currently shows up as an unknown device:
    Unknown Device:
    Manufacturer: 0xD016
    GUID: 0xD0160000008F7B
Maximum Speed: Up to 200 Mb/sec
Connection Speed: Up to 200 Mb/sec

    Hi All,
Sorry for the noise. This works fine without the need to install another driver. My bad.
I had a loose SCSI connection. Once I fixed that, it worked.
So, if anyone is wondering, this converter still does the job.

Such animals exist, but you may have to look on eBay to find them. The ones that were developed tended to work with most printers, but not all SCSI devices. If you see something on eBay, check the support site for the company that originally built the device to see what hardware it is compatible with.

  • Installing Solaris 10 from a SCSI DVD driveand a Tekram DC-390U adapter

I'm tryng to install Solaris x86 from a SCSI DVD drive wth a Tekram DC-390U adapter (DVD version downloaded from the sun website).
When the computer boots from the DVD the Solaris Configuration Assistant is run and ask me to choose the device which I want to boot from. The problem is the list only contains my hard drive and a CD drive, but not the DVD drive.
I guess Solaris doesn't include any driver for that specific SCSI adapter, which I find quite surprising as any old Linux or *BSD works fine with it. And the card is also listed in the device list Solaris has found while probing the system.
I tried to download drivers from the Tekram webiste but they are limited to Solaris 8. I didn't try them 'cause it takes me so much time to get a floppy drive up and running...
PS : Installing on a VirtualPC 2004 guest works fine, but it's so slow...

I downloaded the latest version of Solaris 10, and that solved the problem of the continual reboots. Now the keyboard doesn't work, but that's a different problem.
