Chia Pet?

Disclaimer:
I'm completely new to the mac OS.
I downloaded the Chi Pet widget and I just thought it'd grow grass on it's own, but apparently you have to water it. Mine died, and I was kinda upset because it looked pathetic lying on its back all dead-like with this note that said, "YOUR CHI PET DIED BECAUSE YOU FAILED TO WATER IT." Exactly like that. So now, I occasionally click the water droplet next to it and I don't notice anything happening to the Chi Pet, so I was wondering if I was doing it right. I really like the Chi Pet widget because I have two real Chia Pets of my own.
On to a completely different (and a little less inane than Chi Pet widget) topic...how often should I reformat my laptop? After I downloaded FireFox it said I could eject the something from the hard disk and I'm still confused on what a .dmg file is. I know it's disk image, but I don't know what I can delete and what I need to keep to use an application. Can I move stuff from the applications folder to the desktop and will the application still work? Is there a book that's like, What To Do When You Switch To Mac from Windows? I really am not sure how any of this works still, and the help topics don't always work. I'm still trying to figure out how to switch iTunes from regular view to mini-view. It says there's a zoom button at the top left hand side of the iTunes window, but I've yet to find it there or a preference listed in any of the preference windows.
And also, I'd like to apologize for a very inappropriate post I made a day or two ago. I guess I didn't realize the extent of what I was asking, and it made me look like a really big jerk. I'm really not into all of that stuff, I'm still getting used to this wireless business. It's just kinda different (for lack of a better word) when a notification box pops up and asks me if I'd like to join the open network NETGEAR. So, sorry, especially to Allan Sampson -- I think I really made a mistake/made people mad.
Thanks!

Hi.
Like baltwo, I can't help with your Chi Pet widget, but see if there is a restart button or something in its preferences that you can reset. Go back to wherever you downloaded it from to read the documentation/instructions.
A disk image is just that, It is a virtual disk that mounts within a Finder window. To take the case in point, you downloaded Firefox whose .dmg you then opened. In the adjoining pane of the Finder window you'll see the Firefox logo. That is the application. Drag it to your Applications folder. That then copies it to the Apps folder. You'll see a little progress bar for a few seconds while it does so. Don't blink!
You can then eject the D.I. in finder by clicking on the ⏏ symbol. The original download (.dmg) is now redundant and you can safely drag it to the Trash and empty it.
Regarding applications on the desktop, Apple Apps should be left in the Applications folder because that's where Software Update expects them to be. If you move Apple apps around they won't get updated. Third party apps, like Firefox for eg, can usually be run from wherever you like. The Applications folder is tidier though. If you want an App readily accessible, just drag its icon to the dock, that will create an 'Alias', ('Shortcut' in Windows-speak), in the Dock. Or, while the app is open, click and hold its icon in the dock and select the 'Keep in Dock' option. Anything that you don't want in the Dock can be dragged off it. It will disappear in a puff of smoke. The Application will still be accessible in your Applications folder, all you have done is got rid of the alias in the Dock.
Re your iTunes 'Mini view'. at the very top left of the iTunes window you will see three little grey circles. When you point to one of them, you will see a symbol in each. The left hand one with an X closes the window, but unlike Windows' X, doesn't close the Application, (or 'Program' in Windows-speak).
The centre (center) grey circle has a - sign. That minimises iTunes to the Dock next to the Trash. If you want to see cool slow-motion effects, hold the shift ⇧ key whilst minimising.
The right hand circle of the three with the + is the one that you want for mini-view.
Hope this helps,
Have fun!
Adrian

  • Several applications unexpectidly close!

My computer has been running a little slow lately and I just got a softwear update and there was plenty of new stuff. So I started downloaing it.
When I came back in the room the bar was all the way up but the message was up telling me to shutdown. (Nowe the one that comes up after the update, the one where the screen turns grey and you can't do anything but turn it off)
So When the computer was back on and running, I cheked for another update cause I wasn't sure if the last one compleatly went in seince I restarted.
The update unexpectidly closed. So does Safari, Mail, the Dashboard, and that's all I've tried. (I'm using FireFox now)
Oh, and when I say 'Unexpectidly close' I don't mean the odd time it'll stop. I mean I can not get into any of these programs without that message coming up! Not Once!
Now, what can I do about this? I need to water my Chi Pet! :P Any suggestions?

    Hi, Pop7.
    1. You wrote: "...the message was up telling me to shutdown."If you are seeing the following message

If so, see my "Resolving Kernel Panics" FAQ. This FAQ includes step-by-step instructions for identifying and resolving some of the most common causes of kernel panics. The FAQ is a roadmap: start at the beginning and work systematically through the end, i.e. the "If all else fails..." section.
    2. You wrote: "So does Safari, Mail, the Dashboard..."Assuming you were not seeing a kernel panic, as noted above, then See my "Multiple applications quit unexpectedly or fail to launch" FAQ for advice on troubleshooting this issue. If you were seeing a kernel panic, the cause of the panic is most likely also causing the problem you are seeing with applications quitting unexpectedly.
As FYI, before installing future software updates, you may wish to consider the advice in my "Installing Software Updates" FAQ. Taking the steps therein before installing an update often helps avert problems and gives you a fallback position in case trouble arises.

  • Yikes, it looks like I may have a Trojan

In the middle of reading a story on my local newspaper's website last night, all of a sudden I get what appears to be a virus scan running under the name of Immunizator. I couldn't get it stopped. The only thing I could do was an "emergency" shutdown, restart & shut down were blocked by the darn thing. It was so late I really didn't want to deal with it, so I thought I would try this afternoon.
After doing a "google" for "immunizator", it does look like it's some type of Mac OsX Trojan. I have gone through, sending the app to the trash, & all of the .dmg junk. When I tried to empty the "trash", this stuff has the "empty" option blocked, so I did a "force empty" with Leopard Cache Cleaner which appeared to work. "Appeared" is the key word. When I use "finder" to look up the key word, "immunizator", the **** thing still opens up on my system. I'm now totally confused, lost, whatever as to what I need to do to get rid of this, ONCE & FOR ALL! Help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry, in a lot of ways I'm still a computer rookie, especially when it comes to Macs, so not sure what you mean by code tags. If it was an iTunes/iPod problem, I could probably do everything you need. Anway, for what's it worth, here it is. Thanks for taking a look.

  • MS 6758 ( 875P Neo FIS2R ) Possible Bios Glitch

Just got this new board the other day and as most would attest to doing and hour or so after getting it running, I decided to update the bios to the latest version from v1.4 to v1.6.  OK then, no real dramas except for one minor issue.  If I select QUICK BOOT and DISABLE the LOGO screen so as to show the post screen instead, the computer locks up on ASSIGN RESOURCES TO ALL ISA.  If I re-enable the logo screen ie. the MSI logo etc, then it boots fine.  If I disable this logo screen, and also disable quick boot so it does it's full memory check, it boots fine also.
This only started since flashing the bios to v1.5.  I then flashed to v1.6 and it still did the same thing.  Very weird indeed.  Everything is hunky dory though.  No problems whatsoever.  Just the above small glitch.  It sounds to me like a possible glitch in the bios code to me.  Just curious if other people are having the same problem.
It doesn't matter what the other settings are throughout the bios.  The above 2 settings are the only ones I have found that seem to effect this problem.  If anyone else can simulate the same scenario as what I have, then let me know.  It may just me a hardware config issue.  Who knows.  Nothing is OCed.  All stock speeds.  Apart from the memory timings.
    MSI, are you listening?

could it be MSI's QC? Seems like people have had alot of mixed success with this board. Some people say it's the greatest since sliced bread some people can't get it to boot. Everyone's system has a different config so it's hard to say but would seem that there's just too many ongoing issues to be a consistant incompatiblity with components used with the board. Chi Pete your sound card, look into one by Philips called Acoustic Edge. I know it's not a SB Audigy but that's the whole point for me, no IEEE 1394 to deal with. Until Creative allows that to be disabled or removes it completely from their cards I'll never buy another one. Anyway the Philips got some pretty good reviews, looks like the software has some interesting control abilities and comes setup like a SB Live, no firewire, no usb, no parallel port just a game port and audio connections. And BTW how does the Cirrus Logic chipset sound? or does your Santa Cruz have a different chipset?

  • New .TV (pets, recipe, etc.) and Viacom channels not in zap2it or Tivo guides

So, it's been about a month since the new .tv channels came out and two days since the Viacom HD channels were introduced.  And zap2it.com, Tivo, etc. all still don't list ANY of the new channels in their programming guides.
I've opened cases with Tivo.  With Zap2it.  With Verizon.  Everyone points fingers saying it's the other's fault.
In the meantime, for the .TV channels that got added a while back, if you go to zap2it, or Tivo, you get "loor633" for channel name and "to be announced" for guide info for pets.tv.  You get "loor599" for Cars.tv.  You get "loor674" for MYDestination.tv.  Etc.
And for the Viacom channels, you also get nothing.  Just blank space with "to be announced" for programming info.
From what I understand, Verizon needs to tell Tribune that their channel lineup has changed.  And Tribune, Zap2it and Tivo all claim that Verizon hasn't done that.  Verizon, of course, is silent on the matter and the "fiber solutions center" says there is nothing they can do right now and that channel info for the .tv and Verizon channels might get added to online guides in a few MONTHS!?!?!?!?!?!?
Why does this seem to be a problem with Verizon's lineup and no one else's?  When I had Dish, Zap2it would have updated listings within 2 hours of new channel additions.  When I had Charter, both Zap2it and Tivo had channel guide info for new channels usually the day BEFORE the channel was added.  But Verizon doesn't seem to provide Tribune with new channel info / guide data at all.
Having had FIOS for less than two months, I'm not happy.  I'm almost certain the goal is for Verizon to get me to dump my lifetime Tivo service and instead pay them $15.99 for their DVR.  But trust me -- I'd rather go back to Charter first.
Message Edited by skierrob2 on 06-24-2009 10:44 AM

I do not understand why you folks are blaming Verizon for this. Please give me a moment to explain my theory.
First of all, I have been for a long time a very dissatisfied user of the FiOS Guide data. So dissatisfied that late last year I sent an email to Verizon's CEO expressing my dissatisfaction, and providing examples and pointers to various forum threads discussing the problem. I received maybe 4 or 5 phone calls about the issue, no resolution, but I was told the procedure for the FiOS Guide was this:
Each channel (say ESPN, whatever) develops the data, and sends it to FYI Television of Grand Prairie, TX (in the DFW area). FYI gathers the schedule info from all of the channel providers and once a day sends that data to Verizon. Verizon then inputs the data to the Guide and bingo, we see it, good or bad (lots and lots of bad IMO). I have no way to know if this is really the process, but this is the way it was explained and it makes sense to me.
Now, lets talk about one of the other guide providers for the Tivo or whatever. It seems to me that a very similar process would have to take place: channel to guide data collector to actual guide data provider (maybe the last two are one and the same?).
Now, where would Verizon be in this process for the other guide data providers? Seems to me nowhere, it should be the responsibility of the channel to notify the data provider that the channel is now on FiOS, what the channel name and number is, etc.
I am sure you will disagree with me, but where am I wrong? It seems to me you should be complaining to the channel providers, not Verizon.

  • TS3697 I am receiving an error message(iTunes will no longer sync photos to the iPhone "Peter's iPhone". Do you want to keep or remove photos previously synced to your iPhone") I am trying to download pics from my computer to my iPhone. Any ideas? Peter

When I went to download some pics (originally taken with my iphone 4S) from my computer back to my iPhone I got the following error message: "iTunes will no longer sync photos to the iPhone "Peter's iPhone". Do you want to keep or remove photos previosly synced to your iPhone?"
Coincidentally, my wife just purchased an iPhone 4S and syncs to iTunes on the same computer.
    Any ideas?
    Peter

The "best" way to handle it, if you want to keep everything separate, is to create separate user accounts on the computer. make sure you log into your account on the computer before you attempt to sync your phone and log out when you're done using the computer.
Though it's possible to sync both of them to the same iTunes library, and even share an account for the iTunes store, you're inviting confusion and possible data loss (as you've discovered already). Best to just use separate user accounts on the computer. That also gives you the benefit of not polluting the other persons browser favorites, contacts, etc.

  • The Sims 2 crashes after installing Nightlife or Pets Expansion Packs

I'm at the end of my rope, so I thought I would see if anybody out there can help me. I'm posting this on a few boards.
I've been a huge fan of the Sims ever since the first game was released. I got my first Mac a year ago, and The Sims 2 for it for Christmas. I put off purchasing any expansion packs - I had enough fun with the base game and downloaded custom content that I did not feel justified in spending the money. Then they made Pets, and I was sorely tempted. After playing with that expansion on my sister's new Windows Vista laptop, I decided that I would get it for my Mac for my birthday in July.
After I installed the expansion pack, my game would crash during the blue startup screen. I removed custom content, reinstalled the game, and tried everything else the Aspyr tech support could think of - including sending my disc back for a replacement copy.
I've included all of our correspondence below. Maybe someone out there has had a similar problem, or can think of what could be causing this issue.
Today I tried installing the Nightlife expansion pack, and was met with the EXACT same issue. Obviously there is something wrong with my Mac or the base game, or some bit of software or code on my system is screwing things up. . .
I'd really hate to sell the expansions online and then fork over the money for a copy of Windows and the PC version of Pets (I already own the base game). I'd hate to devolve back into a Windows user =+\
7/31 I sent a message to Aspyr Support through their website:
I just installed the Pets expansion on top of the Sims 2 base game. Now it crashes before the start-up screen has finished loading. I tried removing the downloads folder and the neighborhoods folder, in case something in there was not compatible. The game still crashes.
    8/1
    Greetings,
I'd recommend downloading the latest version of Quicktime from apple.com as well as our Pets patch via support.aspyr.com and see if that solves the issue. If not:
This error can occur for a number of reasons; Multiple installations of the game, unnecessary patching of the game, moving game files around after installing, installing the game to your desktop, or corruption of game files. Unfortunately a clean install is the only way to resolve this issue.
I recommend the following troubleshooting steps. Try running the Repair Disk Permissions function of the Disk Utility located in Applications/Utilities. Also, avoid installing the game to Applications or the Desktop; there are permissions conflicts that can arise when games are installed here. Games work best when they are installed in a separate games folder on the top/root level of your hard drive.
Reinstalling gets rid of any game data that may have become corrupt. Be sure to trash the game's preferences file(s) (com.aspyr."Sims2".plist) located in the Home/Library/Preferences folder. Common game file locations are Home/Library/Preferences and Home/Library/Application Support and Home/Documents when you do so. Then just trash the current copy of the game and install a new copy to the new games folder at the root of your hard drive. I'd also recommend doing a Spotlight search of your computer to make sure you've removed the game files / folders before reinstalling.
You can usually find specific removal instructions via the readme file located in the main game folder to use as a guideline for installing the game.
    (From the Sims2 readme file)
To uninstall The Sims 2 and The Sims 2 Body Shop, drag the following to the trash:
"The Sims 2" folder which contains the game and The Sims 2 Body Shop applications
    "home folder\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2" folder
    "home folder\Library\Preferences\com.aspyr.TheSims2.plist" file
    "home folder\Library\Preferences\com.aspyr.TheSims2BodyShop.plist" file
    "home folder\Library\Preferences\com.aspyr.TheSims2PackageInstaller.plist" file
If you have Sims 2 expansions you should run the game once by launching it from the hard drive before installing any expansions. This will create a new set of preference files and allow the installers for the expansions to properly install the software.
    I hope this helps.
    8/1
Thank you for your quick response. Sadly, the game still does not work. I tried all of your advice, then decided to make sure I had done everything I could possibly think of.
First, I moved my saved games (and downloads, user data, etc) to a folder on the desktop, so I could retrieve them later.
I ran the Repair Disk Permissions function.
I had the latest version of Quicktime, but I reinstalled it anyway. I also downloaded all available system updates.
I erased all of my remaining Sims data, including the preference files.
I rebooted. (not sure if this does much, but I know my old PCs worked better with reboots)
I installed the Sims 2 in a newly-created Games folder on the HD. I also installed the patch for the base game.
I played the game; it functioned properly.
I rebooted again and installed the Pets expansion and the patch.
It is behaving the same way as before - the game quits unexpectedly when the startup screen gets to "calibrating canine customization."
Oh, and I did not moved my saved data back into the game folders - I tried running it clean, first.
Is there anything else I can try? Or do I just give up and sell my expansion pack on eBay?

    Hello,
Here are specific instructions for fixing the problems with Sims 2 Pets.
    1. Start by removing any Sims DVDs from the drive
    2. Drag The Sims 2 application folder from your Hard Drive to the trash
    3. Drag The EA Games folder from the Documents folder to the trash

    Hello again,
I greatly appreciate how quickly you responded once more, but frustratingly the game is still not working. I burned my saved game info to a DVD so that I could erase every single Sim-related file on my system. I followed steps 1-16 exactly , then skipped to 29. But once I launched the game with Pets, the exact same problem occurred - it (un)expectedly closed when the startup screen got to "Calibrating Canine Customization."
I don't know what could possibly be going wrong, and it's very disappointing. Please let me know if there is anything else I should try.

    Hello,
I am sorry you are still having problems with The Sims 2. In most cases checking to make sure you have all the latest Apple updates and a fresh install will fix this problem.
Here are a few things to check for:
    1. Make sure the game is installed on the boot volume, the main hard drive.
    2. Don't put the game in your Applications folder. There are permissions conflicts that can arise when games are installed here. Install the game to the root level of your drive instead.
    3. Run the permissions repair. To do this, launch the Disk Utility located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder. The second tab will allow you to repair permissions.
    4. Remove the game completely (search for all game files) and run the install again, and choose the Macintosh HD as the destination for the install. When you launch the game, leave all in-game graphics settings at the defaults. Then reinstall the patch.
Here's something else you can try. Uninstall the game again, move ALL files related to game to the trash and empty it. Do a search on your entire computer to make sure that you got everything. Disconnect any peripherals from your computer except for the keyboard and mouse, create a New User account, reboot the computer and log into the new user account. Then reinstall the game. Choose your Macintosh HD as the destination to install to, and after initially launching the game, leave all in-game graphics/resolution settings at the defaults.

    Sorry, it's me again.
I've done everything you suggested in this and the other e-mails, to no avail.
    -my system is fully updated.
-ALL Sims 2 files trashed and emptied.
    -Permissions repair run.
    -peripherals unplugged.
    -New user created.
-Rebooted and logged in as new user.
    -Installed directly to HD.
    -Launched + closed game.
    -Installed Pets Exp.
-Launched - failed. It crashed at the very same point during startup.
-downloaded and installed patch; still failed.
I'm ready to restore my base game saved files from their DVD and sell the expansion pack on eBay.

There is one last thing to try and that is to assume there is something wrong with the Pets DVD. We offer a disc replacement service for $10 or, if you have purchased the disc in the last 90 days, it is free.
    8/16/07
I received my replacement disc today, and quickly installed it after backing up my files. The game still crashes at the same point during startup. Is it time to give up?
    8/16/07
    Hello,
I am very sorry the Pets expansion has not worked for you. I have never run into a situation where nothing will fix the problem. In all cases with the Sims 2 or expansions a disc replacement fixes the problem. I would guess that there is some obscure Apple issue causing the Pets to crash.
    Have a nice day,

I finally got the solution from a friend at the TSR forum. It was a problem with QUicktime 7.2. I needed to install this update:

How to reset your Apple ID security questions
Go to appleid.apple.com and click on the blue button that says 'Manage Your Apple ID'.
Log in with your Apple ID and password. If you have forgotten your Apple ID password, go to iforgot.apple.com first to reset your password with a password recovery email.
Go to the Password & Security section on the left side, and click on the link underneath the security questions that says 'Forgot your answers? Send reset security info email to [email]'.  This will generate an automated e-mail that will allow you to reset your security questions.
If that doesn't work, or  there is no rescue email link available, then:
click on 'Temporary Support PIN' that is in the bottom left side, and generate a 4-digit PIN for the Apple Account Security Advisor you will be contacting later.
Next, go to getsupport.apple.com. If you see a message that says 'There are no products registered to this Apple ID, simply click on 'See all products and services'.
Choose 'More Products & Services', then 'Apple ID'.
A new page will open.  Choose 'Other Apple ID Topics', then 'Forgotten Apple ID Security Questions'.
    Click the blue 'Continue' button.
Select the contact option that suits your needs best.

  • Pets Game - No Buy "PADLOCK"

many pets players are happy with their owners and/or situation and banner up as "no buy" pets to avoid being taken out of these situations... the reasons are various but usually because good friends wish to stay together... there is currently no method a player can have limited and mutual agreed protection against other players who wish to split up these arrangements.. in the etiquette of the game buying a "no buy" pet is considered harassment A solution would be to put a "NO BUY PETS PADLOCK" on our pet pages to prevent these potential harassments / bullying... put a padlock icon.... open and closed... when a pet AND it's owner BOTH mutally agree and click on the lock icon then the pet becomes "unavailable" to sell and it's buy button is dimmed.... something along these lines would make a real difference in player satisfaction with the game... all other issues and contraversies aside... it would give players some limited control over their ownership and prevent pets game harassment... not only is it an easy thing to do... it is the RIGHT thing to do.. how hard is it to get tagged to pay any attention to our repeated request for this feature.. why is that? each pet would have a lil padlock icon.. or something similar... on it's page next to the pic somewhere... it has two positions... open and closed.... when it is open... that means that pet is AVAILABLE for sale.... period.... when it is closed... that means BOTH the owner and the pet have clicked on the icon to indicate the pet is LOCKED / UNAVAILABLE...  it takes a MUTUAL agreement between both pet and owner to activate the NO BUY padlock... once activated... EITHER ONE of the owner - pet pair can UNLOCK the pet by clicking the icon again... two in agreement can lock it and it takes BOTH OWNER AND PET TO DO THAT... to deactivate the palock... it only takes ONE... EITHER the owner or the pet to unlock it....  the programming construct is far simpler than most any other feature on the pet page... it's a simple logical field insertion...
OWNER CLICKS THE PET PADLOCK *AND* THE OWNED PET CLICKS PADLOCK = TRUE = PET UNAVAILABLE...  EITHER ONE OF THE OWNER *OR* PET DOES NOT / UNCHECKS PADLOCK = FALSE = PET AVAILABLE  easiest thing in the world to do... easier than instant grits... we are talking minor minor stuff that a decent coder could knock out in a couple hours here ppl.... it would make a HUGE diff in the game...  1) no more puttin "no buy" in banners... so there is more room for other stuff 2) ppl can tell right away whether it's a for real "no buy" situation or something else 3) no more rewarding no buy snatchers to harass other pet players4) allows responsible player control over alternates 5) keeps profiles "married up" in a worry free environment 6) PREVENTS PETS GAME CYBER BULLYING 7) keeps newbs and stoopid people from making the worst play in the game 8) adds to the fame and fortune of boxing kitty as a problem solver  ok.. forget 1-7... just do it for number 8 UPDATE 4/17 = i'm going to keep adding more thoughts to this thread as time passes... during the the time this thread has "under consideration" status... more thoughts for tagged and all to consider.... One of the best ways for Tagged to increase its revenues is to sell gold to it's users... gold that can be converted to pet cash... and help a player clean up mistakes or increase value and standing in the game... whether you are a pets game purist and think it a short cut or not... (same is true with other games where gold can be converted).... it is tagged's right as a business to conduct business as they see fit... and selling cyber gold is a money maker... it's just the way it is... So one might think Tagged would be interested in allowing users a way to increase the security of the profiles in which they could invest.... a player would almost CERTAINLY feel more CONFIDENT about purchasing gold and converting it to pet cash IF they had some way to know that his/her profile were protected by a NO BUY PADLOCK... as normally the case when a pet is bought in violation of no buy.. there results a lot of anger... frustration... and in most cases... a profile is abandonned or "DUMPED" in retaliation to the NO BUY VIOLATION... I for one have ZERO interest in buying gold to build a profile knowing i have ZERO chance to protect and preserve when i have it placed with a friend or a good owner... i am sure there are others who would INVEST MORE WITH GOLD AND DO SO WITH CONFIDENCE were we given something as simple as this modest level of protection... So not only is the NO BUY PETS PADLOCK a simple and easy mechanism to put in place... it would also end a lot of drama and needless hassles... close the window of opportunity for online harassment (we can block a user with privacy settings but not from buying our profiles in pets game... leaving that vulnerability open is like putting a screen door on a submarine)... AND it would be good for Tagged's profitablity by encouraging people to invest MORE in their profiles....(tagged can do this by BUILDING SECURITY AND VALUE into the profiles obviously) From any and all perspectives... the NO BUY PETS PADLOCK is a win for everyone Update 4-25-12 well it has happened to your old pal BK.... after being split up from my GF and pets game partner 8 times in the last 5 months... i've decided the ongoing hassle just isn't worth it and will be withdrawing my primary profile from the pets game... after playing pets daily going on 3 years... it will seem odd.... and sure i'm just a little player in the grand scheme of things.... maybe one has to be 100 times my value to gain anyone's attention to the NO BUY PADLOCK idea... i've no delusions there... and yet i wonder... how many other members of tugged have withdrawn / opted out / abandonned profiles due to a hostile take over?...  in my case there is no doubt.. the person behind the chain pets and splitting up our married profiles has a long sad history on tagged for harassment, issuing threats and using pets game to intimidate... it's a shame that a friendly game can be abused by a few for such purposes.. this fellow has been deleted by tagged in the past and somehow always manages to get re-instated.... go figure if i were a tagged admin or a programmer and responsible for creating a fun and friendly environment for this SOCIAL networking game...  it would be a high priority to build in simple safe guards that prevent online cyber bullying.... if i were a suit in tagged's management structure... i would look to find ways to increase profitability and drive a design the ENCOURAGES investment in member profiles... more visits, more ad hits, more gold sales, etc... the NO BUY PETS PADLOCK just makes good business sense from all perspectives.. you'd think business savvy execs would see this simple solution incorporated ASAP...   if nothing else... the NO BUY PETS PADLOCK could also limit tagged's exposure to liability from being named co-defendant in any type of civil suit over cyber-bullying as a result of negligence... negligent means being aware that you've created a condition or environment that is conducive to unlawful or harmful activity, being aware that such coniditions exist and then failing to effect a rememdy... just FYI... new laws around this issue are being written every day... and if i were a big wheel at tagged... i'd be paying better attention and taking prompt action to limit this exposure to potential litigation.... especially since Pets Game is tagged's number one product Update 6-3-2012 i've read over some of the comments posted... and i do appreciate what ppl are saying even though they may not agree.... so i'll respectfully respond to a couple of them ... i think the two biggest objections to the padlock idea are as follows.... 1) one player wrote..."the object of the game is to buy and sell pets.. a padlock would be an impediment to that...."
response = if you as a pet or an owner do not wish to be or own "No Buy" pets... then the padlock would not change how you wish to play... it is an OPTION available to players that would require BOTH the owner and the pet's consent before the padlock is set... therefore if you do not wish to keep a pet then you simply do not set the padlock... same if you are an owned pet... other players can buy and sell as usual.... the padlock would only be activated by mutual consent... after those that wish do so activate the padlock... there still would be no shortage of good pets to buy and sell... simply having the option wouldn't change anyone's game except for people who buy "no buy" pets as a habit 2) another pets player wrote .. " I make it a point to buy "no buy" pets because i know they will be bought back and i make a quick profit".... response = i cannot caution new players enough against adopting this strategy... it may work sometimes but the odds are against you... many more times than not you will be stuck with an abandonned pet that will drain its cash and migrate to a different profile.. it's a good way to throw away your pet cash... true... there are no "official" rulles against buying a "no buy" pet and there is no mechanism in the game to prevent that..... however it is consdiered in the etiquette of the game to be a "hostile" action which violates the wishes of the pet and it's owner... it's a matter of respect... when a player snatches a "no buy" pet.. there is no obligation for the person to play or maintain that profile any longer... for this reason it is not the wisest of strategies to employ... the end result is usually making people mad / causing drama...  snatching of no buy pets usually forces someone to abandon a profile that they have enjoyed and developed over time (years in some cases)... and it is a HUGE hassle for the NO BUY pet to move friends, other content, etc... not to mention that the profile loses wishers and position in other games they may be playing... snatching a "no buy" pet is the most disruptive play one can make in the game... it is received badly 99.9 percent of the time and will not make one many friends in the game that way... some commenters have said "i buy "nobuy" pets on purpose"... but in fairness what these commenters are NOT saying is they know it's an extremely risky manuever with really no genuine desire to OWN the pet they are buying... rather they are looking for quck profit from a buy back.... this is why our "nobuy" pets wind up in dumps and on pets with insulting pics and banners, etc..... the violators of "no buy" do so usually because they know it's a big risk, utterly disruptive and rarely keep the "no buy" pet onto their primary pet page..... worse yet and often... the buyer of a no buy pet begins a campaign of bullying and treats against the pet if it does not play, if the original owner does not buy back or otherwise get sold.....  if this is not how harrassment in pets game is conducted then i don't know what is...
one thing that i'm hoping TAGGED and pets players will understand is that our pet is just part of the larger profile... we have worked not only to build our pet page but our status/ranking in other games as well... we have customized our profiles and put work into building friends lists and other content.... in other words... our profiles are VALUABLE to us and tagged should help us protect that which we value... when a player snatches a no buy pet.. sometimes years of work and development go down the drain in an instant... just two clicks by someone else can make a valuable profile worthless to it's owner... tagged should give us some way to prevent that kind of damage Update 6-11-12 i'm reading the comments and i appreciate the support.. if nothing else i hope this thread will educate others about the whole "NO BUY" concept.... there are lots of good reasons why a player would not want to have others take the pets from their page... sometimes it's a pet that is won in a key race... sometimes it's a "stacker"... sometimes and prolly most the time its a friend.... but if this thread can at least save botht the owners and buyers of "NO BUY" pets from some unnecessary drama... then i'll take what victory i can from keeping this convo going... and i'm not blasting or flaming any one for being honest and expressing their opinion... that is what makes the discussion more valuable and meaningful.... so please bear that in mind when you read thru comments...  one other theme that runs thru the dissenting opinion...ppl are saying "ok.. if you don't want to be bought then instead of "no buy" .... you should just "opt out"... i can see where ppl think that all is fair game... and perhaps without official "rules" and a padlock mechanism... for the time being... opting out would be one way to tell other players "do not buy me"... right?... i get it.... however...i think the idea here is to ENCOURAGE ppl to play pets in a way that is fun and enjoyable... is it not better to bring people INTO the game rather than driving them OUT of the game?... buying a no buy pet tends to have the later effect...it causes people to leave the game or at least to abandon the jacked profile / pet... that's not what any of us want i don't think.. including tagged... on the other hand... i should mention in all of this... that if one takes the time to talk to ppl you see on the playground... make friends and enjoy a social networking game together... that IF YOU ASK b4 you buy... some NO BUY pets will be the best pets you'll own... most long time players would agree they just want some small degree of control... it's a good fit when the player and owner have a mutual desire to be in the arrangement... and yes... ppl do have to be raised which requires ppl to trade and flip pets...  so here's a tip from your ole pal BK... make friends and ask first.... you'll find most pets players are a good lot for the most part... but about the fastest way i know to get on ppl's bad sides is to snatch their "no buy" pets without some previous arrangement...   it's a social networking game most of all... play nice... be good company... that's the best advice i can give ya... UPDATE 6-13-12 was talking to a friend who does not play pets... she had opted out as many have suggested a player do... and yet even though she had opted out of pets game... as soon as she comes online then pets players buy her and flip her anyway... she has told me she has no interest in playing pets game ... finds it "distasteful" that ppl put values on others... and does not appreciate the hostility she's encountered from ppl that expect to her play pets game since they have bought her...... in other words.... opting out does not always work.... and ok... i explain to her that it is just a game... like trading baseball cards at one level and not take things personally... but here's an interesting angle on why we need the NO BUY PETS PADLOCK... i'm sure there are other members of tagged / hi5 who have no interest and would rather NOT be involved at all...  another friend and posters here have commented about winning k pets and owning non-playing profiles which are bannered "no buy" and are set free from their owners once they have built enough pet cash to do so... these profiles are obviously ownerless... bannered no buy... there is no intent to maintain or play them as a normal profile... and yet other players still buy them and expect a response and the pet to be maintained so it will sell... therefore another option with the NO BUY PADLOCK would be if a pet is OWNERLESS for whatever reason.. either a set free has occured... an owner quits the game and ghosts... whatever... if a pet is ownerless then it could set the Padlock to lock it in as a "no buy"... any attempt to buy the pet/profile at that point would return a "Pet is unavailable for sale" condition...
this would make sure that members with no desire to play pets and that repsonsible players have a way to set a profile so that it cannot be "pulled" back into the game again... if you really consider all the reasons for the PADLOCK... i'm hoping everyone will see how useful this feature could be and benefit everyone UPDATE 6-14-2012 just had a lil thought to throw in here.... i see pet players all the time saying "i show up everyday... i play well and buy pets.. i have good numbers in value, cash and assets.... and still.. no one will buy and raise me".... right?... i wonder how many players like that would be helped if more established players were not required to re-invest all the profit in buiding their own profiles because as it is now... the only defense against being snatched by a "NO BUY" pet buyer is to raise your value to such an amount that it's prohibitive... and in some cases... even not then...  the padlock would be one thing that allows ppl to concentrate on helping others up in the game rather than always having to play on the defense.... does that make sense?... FURTHER UPDATES AND EXPLORATION OF OP CAN BE FOUND IN THREAD COMMENTS due to size limitations in the TOPIC / OP ...Please read on and add your KUDO if you agree... thanks

I agree with this idea 100%  Taggeds answer will be that buying pets is the purpose of the game, and no buy was created by the players not them. What they fail to take into consideration is that sexual harassment, threats, bullying is what has made many of us be no buys.  The current game is more runs than it is pet buying, the ONLY reason to buy no buys is pure greed and harassment, and that wasn't the intent of the game either.  JUST like they had to adjust and incorporate the key runs as part of the game, they need to listen to the players who choose to be no buy, and many spend large $s on their profiles, and give us a way to stay where we choose.  There are surely enough pets who are not no buy, to keep the game going.  The lock would drastically cut down on the fighting and amount of complaints that they get, there is no down side to giving us a pad lock.

  • My 3 year old has downloaded a £70 app can I get my money back? He has somehow purchased, 'vault of gems' on Mini Pets. It seems unbelievable that an upgrade to a kids app is £70!!! I suppose this is how these robbers make money.. Any help appreciated.

My 3 year old and I downloaded, 'mini pets'. app. Whilst playing he managed to purchase a 'vault of gems' for a staggering £70!!!!
Can we get our money back? I can't believe there was no security or the iTunes password to submit and how is an app upgrade £70 these people are rob dogs.
    Please help....

    JohnGeorge,
Apple allows apps to list themselves as "Free" if the initial download is free, even if the app has kid-oriented inducements for costly in-app purchases.  The in-app purchases are almost always ridiculous, over-priced game accessories, of which your example of "vault of gems for £70" is right up there.  It is way too caveat emptor for my taste, but each consumer can form their own opinion on that.
To Apple's credit, they have a good record of granting refunds providing you explain the extenuating circumstances (purchase by a minor) and only ask once.  Contact iTunes Customer Service.
And immediately, you need to place restrictions on the devices.  The restrictions are off by default (caveat emptor!), so you need to take action to place them.  See this document:  iOS: Understanding Restrictions
