Chromium Weirdness

For some reason just this morning chromium started acting funny. The problem is with the cursor. It is like it gets stuck in one mode. So if I hover over a link then the cursor changes to a hand but then while I am on the next page it stays as a hand all over the page. It does this with other things too. Right now while I am typing this the cursor is stuck in the I input text look. The other thing is I can't highlight text on web pages anymore where I hold down right mouse and select the line of text that I want. Most pages now the hand doesn't even show over a link it is just in a regular pointer.
This is weird and really annoying. Any ideas where I could look.
I have deleted all my local chromium folders/settings and un-installed and reinstalled and still get the same thing.

  • [SOLVED]Cannot print to PDF files neither from Chromium nor from Firef

    When I open the print dialog and select "Print to file" to print to a PDF file, it works from applications such as gedit, evince, LibreOffice (this one uses a different print dialog, but works anyway), etc. but it is not working when using it from Chromium or from Firefox. Printing to a standard printer from these browsers works.
    When I launch chromium from the terminal and try printing to a PDF file, it outputs this error message in the console:
    [2229:2229:0618/092520:ERROR:print_dialog_gtk.cc(406)] Printing failed: Operation not supported
    When I repeat the process from Firefox, no error message is printed in the console.
    Printing to files was working until recently, I suppose an update broke it. I have Arch installed in 3 different computers (one i686, one x64 and one arm7h), and it is broken in the 3 of them. I'm using XFCE4, and both ghostscript and a2ps are installed.
    Is this a known bug? Can it be solved/workarounded?

  • [SOLVED] chromium unresponsive when opening preferences

    When opening preferences in chromium, a new tab appears but it is not populated and the tab becomes unresponsive. Obviously, this is a deal-breaker and I need some help in fixing it.
    I observed that after opening preferences, a new ktradertest process (I use KDE) is eating 100% cpu. ktradertest is spawned by xdg-settings, which is spawned by the original chromium process, trying to determine if it is the default browser. So the root problem is that ktradertest never returns. This is reproducible by running "ktradertest text/html Application" in a terminal.
    A new user account did not exhibit the same behavior. Running ktradertest through either strace or gdb also failed to reproduce the problem. Attaching to the hung process yields the following stack trace:

    It seems that ktradertest is part of kdelibs3 and is not included in recent releases of KDE4, which explains why I couldn't find any information about it. There was only one old application using kdelibs3, so I got rid of all KDE3 stuff and the problem is solved. Since ktradertest is not intended to be run in a modern KDE4 environment, it's understandable that it's unstable and failing in this weird way.
    However, it seems that xdg-settings should not be using it. xdg-settings also calls xdg-mime, which does perform a version check and uses ktraderclient in the case of KDE4. It seems that xdg-settings should also perform that check and not use ktradertest, which probably just returns a "command not found" on most desktops.

  • Google API Keys for GCM in Chromium looks like dont work

    I am trying to use the service of Push Messaging function of Chrome(Chromium), theoretically I have to get a ChannelId where the communication would be established between the browser and Google Cloud Messaging(GCM), in Chrome I can get that Channel without problems, but in Chromium I don't get Channel, I don't get error, only I don't have anything, I contacted some people in the forums for Chromium and they suggest that the API keys for this funcionality(Google CLoud Messaging) maybe are not correct or there is a problem with the API  keys embedded in the build of Chromium for Arch.
    I don't know if this is the correct place to post this question, the people of Chromium suggested me that I contact to the package mantainer to reviwe if there is a problem with these API keys.
    I am using Arch 3.9.4-1, Chromium 27.0.1453.93 (Build para desarrolladores 200836).
    If this is not the correct place to post this kind of question and somebody knows where can I post it please tell me, and if somedoby can help me with my question I would be thankful.

Im working on the same solution right now (SWV + GoogleMaps JS v3 ) I've got some weird issue when i try to spawn a StageWebView inside a View on IOS, it appears inside a scroller and is not open for finger interaction anymore. I use the eskimo framework, but then again, nothing fancy going on there for the rest. I've tried all of the the stage.stageScaleMode options but non of them work. Got any help?

  • [SOLVED] Chromium + pepper = Video @ double speed

    I am using the latest stable chromium, with the pepper-stable package from the AUR recommended in the Chromium wiki.
    I moved to Chromium as Flash is no longer being developed for Firefox....And Firefox 26 crashes a lot, and randomly, including with all plugins removed. So It's a problem right now.
    As the subject mentions....I am getting weird video issues. Usually, the video plays back at double speed, with the associated spastic audio output. Here is an example: Ref: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smCQ2g9L7PU.
    This used to play fine in Firefox with the old flashplugin.
    In my porting process, here is what I did:
    With no browser open:
    a)     "sudo pacman -Rs flashplugin"
             a1)    Verified that flash was no longer operating in Firefox.
    b)    "sudo pacman -S chromium"
    c)    "yaourt -S chromium-pepper-flash-stable"
    d)   In chromium: "chrome://plugins" to verify that flash wasn't showing up.
    Arch x86_64 (current), NVidia GTX-660, using the nvidia drivers from Arch...extra. (rev 331.20) vdpau is installed in both the 64 and lib32 variants.
    I have tried disabling hardware acceleration in the pepper-flash plugin, restarted the browser and retried. I have tried enabling hardware acceleration, restarted the browser and retried.
    Playback seems unaffected in either scenario, and remains unusable.
    Gnash has never performed properly for me in any scenario where I've tried it. So Gnash is not an option. Gnash has a long way to go until it is ready to be a good drop-in replacement for an official "flash plugin".
    So for now, I have to use the smtube for smplayer to view YouTube/major news site videos properly.
    I am requesting, please, some assistance in fixing my video playback issue in Chromium.

    PS: I'm curious, why does the firefox community appear to be sitting on their hands when Adobe has made it clear for a long time that Adobe Flash for linux is being abandoned as of 01-JAN-2014? I would have expected some really heavy programming resources to be assigned to gnash to make it better, or write some sort of wrapper for the chromium pepper plugin....for official Adobe support.
    Is there another reliable flash playback mechanism that I am missing all together?

    I agree with ewaller (the new html5 player for youtube is good) but to answer your question I had a similar issue with pepperflash and if I recall correctly it was related to sound issues. I do not remember which package solved the issue but here is the alsa / pulseaudio packages I have installed:

  • Chromium 19.0.1084.46 doesn't start (¿dbus issue?)

    Since today chromium is not starting, only error I'm getting is:

  • E17 trouble with mazimizing Chromium...

    Hi,
    I'm using  E17 and I'm currently facing an issue which is really making me go nuts.
    I have two shelves on the top of my screen, and one on the bottom, when I maximize a window I want it to go under my bottom shelf, but stops its vertical maximization under the top shelves.
    This screenshot shows an example of what my window should look like
    I've succeded in doing that by checking "allow window to overlap the shelf" on the bottom one, and unchecking it on the top twos.
    This is where it gets tricky: as you can see on my screenshot I have a tray between the two top shelves, and as it is now, everytime it changes (new icon is added or an icon is removed from the tray) it will get "kicked down" because e17 thinks it's overlapping the shelves.
    If I check the "allow window to overlap the shelf" for the two top shelves, the tray will act correctly, but Chromium won't maximize correctly (it will use the whole screen, and go under the top shelves which is disturbing).
    The problem can be solves for other windows by just resizing them as I wish, and then locking their position/size. Chromium won't behave though, even if I use those locking.
    I've had this problem for a long time, and actually solved it about two month ago, so I know it's possible, but I lost my config files and am unable to find back how I did that...
    I see two possibles solutions, but I can't find any way to set any of these two:
    * Either leaving the boxes checked for all my shelves, and then finding a way to make Chromium behave like any other window (and why doesn't it do it anyway ?)
    * Or unchecking them and then finding a way to set my tray to be allowed to "overlap the shelf" (although it doesn't really do it, but I guess e17 thinks that a shelf use the whole width of the screen altough it's been shrunk to content width)
    Locking the tray position within e17 doesn't work either, since it's not the program who's trying to change its position, but e17 itself, and AFAIK there is no wat to forbid e17 to move a window...
    I would really appreciate any help because right now i have to choose between having Chromium maximizing stupidly or having my tray jump and having to put it back in place every time i close or open an app who has an icon on the tray...

    To be honest the main reason is habit: when I started using e17 there was no "gadget" so we had to put the tray in a shelf, which came out ugly.
    Thanks to you I'm now using the systray as a gadget, which lets me have something close to what I want, but I find it not as pretty as my stalonetray, I can't have the "pixel" border, only, and the icons in the tray are a little bit weird (they seem to be cut a few pixels on the left and on the bottom).
    So it's really close to what I want, and definitely better than my previous situation, but I would still love to be able to stay with my stalonetray...
    [EDIT] Plus it seems that the e17 tray does not get wider as new icons are added, stalonetray's size grew up and shrunk as icons were added or removed (with a minimum width of 3 icons), so with e17 tray it seems that I have to choose between making it very wide and then having a border around unused space, or having icons going out off of the tray... (i don't like borderless windows)

  • Weird flash plugin behaviour

    Hello guys and girls.
    Recently I switched back from catalyst to the opensource driver. Everything worked fine after that.
    Now I updated my system a week ago and for some reason my flash player behaves weirdly since then.
    When I got 2 or more tabs open and all of them having flash active, flash stops displaying correctly when I close one of them.
    Is this a known problem? I couldn't find any posts mentioning this, so I thought I should post a topic here.

    I've been having flash issues lately too, although different ones from yours. Flash videos on lots of sites refuse to go fullscreen. sometimes they will go fullscreen once, but if I unfullscreen and try again it will be broken until I restart firefox. youtube is the only site it works reliably on. I resolved my issues by using chromium and chromium-pepper-flash, which is far more up to date and less buggy than flash 11.2

  • Chromium as root

    I need to run chromium as root. After the latest update (42.0.2311.90) I cannot do it.
    The error is this:

    I have tried putting the
    user-data-dir
    or the

    in the
    /root/.config/chromium/chromium-flags.conf
    and none of these work. I always get the same error response that I linked.
    Another thing that is weird, is that when I run it from command line and keep it running, and doing a
    ps aux | grep -i chrom
    I get this:

    I don't know the inner workings of Chrome/chromium, but if it really does what it appears to be doing, it will always fail if run as root.
    I was affraid of that but I was thinking there would exist some simple bypass to that, that would be as simple as "chromium --user-data-dir".
    The fact that it is very unusual does not justify the way Alad responded. Your response is indeed polite, his was quarrelsome, and this is why I am going to explain this to you.
    I run everything at my desktop as root, as I am a network engineer, a network driver developer and tester for Linux and BSD.
    I need to use raw sockets all the time and I also need to use internally developed chrome plugins that need to be run with elevated privileges through chrome. Yes, I can use sudo and yes I know what linux can offer regarding privilege elevation. However, errors regarding privileges at my programs may not have a direct visible error message and that might lead to huge work-hours loss.
    This is the reason that I want to run as root, I have been doing this for the last 10+ years, I know that this represents a security vulnerability and I have accepted the risk. I don't need any more lectures about it, I have discussed about this alot and I am not interested in other people opinions about that, although I respect them. I don't propagandize why I believe it's an unecessary overhead for developers, network engineers and/or other professions to run their applications as non root. I expect the same behavior about other people that I ask for their help. It is really simple to just *NOT* reply to a forum post instead of saying something like "don't do that (implying 'don't do that because I don't and no-one else does')" and providing **ZERO** contribution to what the OP (me) is actually asking.
    I would really appreciate to get an answer from someone that indeed cares to help me solve my problem.

  • Chromium and certificates

    Hello
    In the recent version of chromium I noticed that it is not possible any more to continue after a certificate error. Now I want to check for flights with Scandinavian airlines (www.sas.se) but the browser doesn't let me access it since the certificate is revoked. Not that that is odd anyway but how can I actually continue? There is only a back button. Than there is a weird google-code page with some certificate management that I don't think is acceptable for a normal user.
    Any tips? Yes; I could use firefox but that is not the point.

  • My Excel with PowerPivots acts weird, it hangs when i try to change font color

    Hi 
    I am facing a weird issue using PowerPivot in my workbook, there is a worksheet named Charts in my workbook and all the charts i am using resides in that worksheet. Whenever i try to change the font color in that sheet, my excel's color palette goes blur
    and then everything just freezes and turns black. This problem is happening only with Charts worksheet, when i try to change the color in other sheets, it works just, the problem is only with Charts sheet. File
    size is 16 MB, there are just 10 pivot tables with some calculations and some calculated fields. There are no add-ins other than PowerPivot.

    Do you receive any error message?
    Which Excel version are you using?  Excel 2013 or other?
    Which workbook format are you using? XLS or XLSX?
    Are you performing any specific task?
    According to your description, this issue seems only occur with the special worksheet "Charts".
    Firstly, I recommend we copy all of the content to a new/blank Excel file to test.
    If it works fine, this issue might be caused by the "Charts" workbook itself. We'd better check the "Charts" workbook. Or re-build the file with a new workbook.
    If it still makes Excel hang with a new file, this issue might due to the content. Please check the content first.

  • My MacBook was acting weird so I restarted it and when I login a white screen flashes and goes back to the login page. Help?

    My MacBook was acting weird like sometimes I would log on and I wouldn't be able to type my password for a couple seconds,but it usually logged in after that. Then I left my computer open after installing the recent update after that all my applications were not responding. So I shut it down, when I turned it back on about an hour later it went to this loading screen and then to the login like usual. After I tried logging in a white screen flashed and it went back to the login/ password screen like nothing happened. Any ideas on what happened and what I can do to fix it?

    Reinstall OS X;
    Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
    When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
