Cisco 876 IP address not taking on interface

Hi
I have a Cisco 876 router, I need to connect ethernet WAN link, While configuring IP address am getting below error.
yourname(config)#int f0
yourname(config-if)#ip addres 172.30.1.0       1.    255.255.255.0
% IP addresses may not be configured on L2 links.

Please help me

Hi Naresh,
Actually the Cisco 876 router has the following ports on the back panel:
Four 10/100BASE-T RJ-45 Fast Ethernet LAN ports with a built-in switch
One 10/100BASE-T RJ-45 WAN Fast Ethernet port
One ISDN S/T port
One ADSL-over-ISDN port
One RJ-45 console port
If the another wan link is ISDN type then you can use the ISDN S/T port it seems.
Connect the wan link to any interface then create a vlan and assign the wan link IP and do routing as possible.
I think so the above should work, because I have the same kind of setup. What I did is...
I have connected the WAN link to L2 port and create a vlan in router for the routing purpose.
Please rate all the helpfull posts.
Regards,
Naidu.

  • Can not add a vlan on cisco 876

    Hello.
I' trying to add a vlan on vlan database of a cisco 876, but it says to me:
    Router#vlan database
    Router(vlan)#vlan 2
Vlan can not be added. Maximum number of 1 vlan(s) in the database.
    why I can't add a new vlan?
    I have the c870-advsecurityk9-mz.124-4.T7 image.
    thanks

The VLAN database is relevant to switches, not to routers.
I presume your router is connected to a switch that can handle VLANs. That is where you need to create your layer-2 VLANs. If you want your router to connect to a VLAN, say VLAN 2, then you have to do it something like this:
    interface f0.2
    encapsulation dot1q 2
    ip address 192.168.2.1 255.255.255.0
Repeat that for however many VLANs you want to route.

    Hello Marek,
I suppose you are not planning to do any kinds of advanced config using several VLANs and multiple SSIDs so let's just make your configuration simple and working.
In short, you need to remove all references to VLAN 1 and to any subinterfaces possibly related to the VLAN 1. This means in particular (follow these steps in sequence):
    Remove the Dot11Radio0.1 subinterface entirely
In the Dot11Radio0 section, remove the encryption vlan 1 mode ciphers tkip command
In the dot11 ssid ciscowifi section, remove the vlan 1 command
After performing these steps, make sure that the ssid ciscowifi and encryption mode commands are still present in the Dot11Radio0 configuration, and if not, reenter them.
    Best regards,
    Peter

  • Secondary Interface IP Address not configured

    Hello,
I have a custom A4 Linux based instance with multiple NICs.  All of the secondary interfaces are configured using the following lines:
    PS C:\> Add-AzureNetworkInterfaceConfig -Name "Eth1" -SubnetName "Subnet-1" -StaticVNetIPAddress "10.1.2.106" -VM $newVM
    PS C:\> Add-AzureNetworkInterfaceConfig -Name "Eth2" -SubnetName "Subnet-2" -StaticVNetIPAddress "10.1.3.106" -VM $newVM
The instance comes up with the interfaces, but the IP addresses are not configured on it and one has to physically log in to the machine and then assign the IP addresses to the secondary interfaces, restart networking and then everything works.
Can anyone provide some insight into this?
    Thanks.

    Hi Ajit,
Please be advised that Secondary Interface IP Address is not automatically configured In VM instances using CentOS 6.5. The IP Addresses for the interfaces will have to be manually configured.
However, if you use CentOS 7, the IP Addresses are configured automaticallly in it.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Malar.

  • Cisco 876 ADSL over ISDN Router

I am facing some problem in using ISDN bri S/T interface for connectivity to HO PRI router.I am not using the ATM interface of this router. The isdn status always shows that the isdn layer 1 and 2 is deactivated. IF i connect the same bri cable to other isdn router it works fine.
Is their any special configuration or command required in 876 router for the isdn dialing?
I found on cisco that the 876 router ISDN bri S/T interface is for the out-of-band mangement and dial backup.
Can i use this interface for the normal isdn dialing?
    need some clarification.

  • Looking for a good note taking app: Are there new features for the Notes app in iOS6?

    Hi,
I've read that the Notes app with Mountain Lion will be available for OS X as well, and I was wondering if there will be any significant updates to the Notes app coming in iOS 6?
The Notes app in Mountain Lion supports, as far as I know, text formatting, images and attachments. The Notes app in iOS 5 does not have any of these features, yet still it is claimed that the OS X client will sync with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. This means that there must be some rather significant updates coming for the Notes app in iOS 6 to match up with the features of its Mac counterpart. Still, no updates to the Notes app are listed in any of the iOS 6 feature lists I've seen so far.
I'm looking for a good note taking app for OS X and iOS. I don't like how Springpad works, neither did Evernote work out for me, it's just too complex - I like Simplenote a lot though, it's just that its approach is too radical in my opinion. I was thinking that the Mountain Lion Notes app might be a good alternative because it combines simplicity with rich text formatting and attachments. I kind of hate the skeuomorphic user interface though.
    best, Ian

  • Cisco 877w - Apple devices not able to see wired apple TV

    Hello All,
Can anyone point me to a doc or forum discussion on how to setup the wireless interface to forward multicast packets?  Basically I cant get the ipads etc.. to see the AppleTV to control it.  I connected an AP and it works fine so its got to be something with the way the router handles the packets from teh integrated wireless interface.  I've been searching the forum for about 1hr and haven't founf anything other than a breif mention of broadcast forwarding and multicast setup.
Has anyone got anything more complrehensive I can read?
    Thanks
    David

    Hello David,
Thank you for contacting the Sales Acceleration Center (SAC) regarding your recent inquiry, Case Number
    Case Description:
Cisco 877w - Apple devices not able to see wired apple TV
    Case Solution:
The Bonjour service uses multicast to advertise your Home Sharing enabled device to the local network. In my case the Cisco 877W I was using had a Layer 3 enabled BVI (Bridged Virtual Interface) to which the Wireless Dot11Radio interface was not fowarding multicast packets properly.
First of all, obtain the Multicast groups your wireless adapter is configured for (on Windows open a command prompt and run the below command):
The result will give you an output as per below, we are interested in the multicast address directly after the 224.0.0.252 address 239.255.255.250:
Then we need to enable multicast routing on the router, connect to your router and enter config terminal mode:
Next we will configure IGMP v3 and add the relevant Wireless interface on your router to the correct multicast address group:
Next perform the same config your BVI interface:
Once complete save your changes and confirm both interfaces have been added to the multicast groups using the command sh ip igmp group:
You now need to reload your router and restart iTunes and then attempt to connect to Home Sharing from your Apple TV.
Other commands that I used to troubleshoot with were:
debug ip mpacket - Multicast Packet Debugging
debug ip mroute - Debug Multicast Routing
sh ip mroute - Show IP Multicast Routes
By default the Cisco implementation of a Dot11Radio interface and a BVI interface don't appear to forward multicast packets between each other. Seems odd to me as they're both in the same L2 bridging group..anyway.
I am going to close the case for this specific inquiry on my side. If you need moere information Please feel free to reach out to me or any member of the SAC team if we can be of any further assistance or if you have any other related questions in the future. We strive to provide you with excellent service. We value your input and look forward to serving you moving forward.

  • Changing the IP address of the management interface

    Hi all,
I need to make a change to a pair of Production wireless controllers. Basically the IP range that was assigned for the wireless LAN is no longer sufficient. The gateway for the controllers is a pair of Cisco 4500's that are running HSRP.
I need to extend the LAN from a /23 to a /22. Unfortunately the range of addresses is completely different. To make matters worse I have to do this remotely, some distance away!
The layer 3 interface on the switches uses .2 and .3 of the new address range with .1 as the gateway (standby ip).
The controllers are setup as a Primary and Secondary device. With all the APs currently associated with the Primary.
My plan was to change the IP address of the management and ap-manager (both are on the same subnet) on the Secondary controller, I'd then lose visibility of the Secondary controller, then change the IP addresses of the physical interfaces on the 4500's. Confirm reachabilty to the new IP addresses defined on the Secondary controller. Assuming this works, reconfigure the physical interfaces on the two interfaces to ensure the Primary is reachable again, make the IP changes to the Primary WLC, update the physical interfaces on the 4500's to use the new IP addresses and then both WLC's should be reachable. The AP's will hopefully have rebooted and obtained a new IP address from the new range defined for them.
I'm really not sure of another way of doing this, other than adding a secondary IP address to the interfaces?
I also wonder if there is a way to apply the initial configuration to the secondary controller, and if my changes don't work, reload the controller so it goes back to using the saved configuration and not the running configuration. Do the controllers support something similar to the 'reload in x' command like on Cisco switches? I've looked up the reset command but am not sure it achieves the same outcome?
    Any ideas?

    Hi Scott,
Would you do the Primary or Secondary controller first? All the AP's are currently associated with the Primary controller.
We don't have access to the console port on the controller remotely. We don't have a KVM/IP KVM there.
What would be the safest method in your opinion?
    - Make the IP changes through the GUI on the Secondary controller.
    - Make the changes on the L3 switches.
    - Confirm reachability to the new ap-manager IP address and management IP address.
    - Adjust the configuration on the L3 switch so the Primary is reachable again.
    - Make the IP change through the GUI on the Primary controller.
    - Confirm reachability to the Primary and Secondary.
Do the controllers support the 'reload in x' command or something similar? And is the 'Apply' command in the GUI like committing the change to the running-configuration but not the start-up configuration or if there is a major problem I can get somebody on-site to pull the power?
    Thanks

  • No Ping-Answer in Site-To-Site-Connection between Cisco 876 and CheckPoint-Firewall

    Hello!
We try to establish a Site-To-Site-IPSec-connection between a Cisco 876 (local site) and a CheckPoint-firewall (remote site). The Cisco 876 is not directly connected to the internet, but is behind a DSL-Router with port-forwarding, forwarding ports 500 and 4500. The running config of the Cisco 876 is appended to this discussion thread. Unfortunately I get no output when debugging the connection with commands "debug crypto isakmp" and "debug crypto ipsec".
From the Checkpoint-firewall point of view the connection seems to establish, but there is no ping answer.
The server on the local site that should be reached from the network behind the Checkpoint-firewall has a routing entry "route -P add [inside ip-net remote] 255.255.255.0 [inside ip local]" (see also appended running config for naming of ip-addresses).
Establishing a Cisco VPN-Client connection to the same Cisco 876 router works fine.
Any help would be very much appreciated!

    Hi Jakob,
    Adding my two cents here.
You always need to confirm that the following ports and protocol are opened:
    1- UDP port 500 --> ISAKMP
    2- UDP port 4500 --> NAT-T
    3- Protocol 50 ---> ESP
A LAN-to-LAN tunnel will never establish a session over TCP, but it could use NAT-T (if behind NAT). Remember that a one-to-one translation is not a port-forwarding, a LAN-to-LAN tunnel does not work well unless you have a one-to-one translation for the NATted device, which I think, in your case is the Router.

  • How can I save a page and all its component parts in a single file, like IE does as an MHT - it's much easier for mailing to people where page address not available?? (as in output from an airline booking site, for example)

how can I save a page and all its component parts in a single file, like IE does as an MHT?
It's much easier for mailing to people where page address not available?? (as in output from an airline booking site, for example)
It is simply too painful to have to zip everything up into a single file to send. MHT format has been available for years now from IE, and with every new FF release it's the first thing I look for. I have been using FF for years, and hate having to come out of it, over into IE |(which I even took out of startup) and key everything in again, in order to send somebody something in a convenient format that they can open with a single click.
I can't believe this hasn't been asked before, so have you looked at it and rejected it? Have MS kept the file format secret?
    Thanks
    MG

This is not really an answer just my comments on your question.
I am sure I recollect efforts being made to get mhtml to work with FF.
Probably the important thing to remember about .mhtml is that if other browsers do support it they may need addons, and may not necessarily render the content correctly/consistently.
There are FF addons designed for archiving webpages, you could try them, but that then assumes the recipient has the same software.
You could simply save the page from FF to your XP pc; then offline open it with and save it using IE, before then emailing using FF, and attaching the .mht or mhtml file that you have now created on your PC.
As an alternative method, in some cases it could be worth considering taking a screen grab of the required page, then sending that to the recipient as a single email attatchment using either a bitmap or jpeg file format for instance.
Something such as an airline booking may be designed with a print option, possibly it could be worthwile looking at sending the print file itself as an email attachment.

  • Firefox suddenly can't connect to the Internet (Address Not Found)

OK, so I recently bought a netbook (Asus eeePC) and put Arch on it to dual-boot. I took it with me on a business trip last week, and I was so impressed with Arch I decided to put it on my desktop today (I had used Arch before, but not for a long time). So, as I was chugging along, I pulled up Firefox on my netbook (it's handy to have a secondary computer while installing Linux), and it gave me an "Address Not Found" error when pulling up Google. Firefox had been working just fine (wired or wireless Internet) for all of last week, and I haven't changed anything.
What's extremely strange is that everything else works. I could pull up Google in Lynx, and I was listening to an Internet radio station (Groove Salad) using cmus, and it worked just fine. Figuring it was just a fluke, I kept going and discovered that I had the same problem on the Desktop once I got around to gettting Xorg and Fluxbox working and after I installed Firefox. It's very strange - the computers are quite different (the netbook is running i686, and the desktop is running x86_64). I have a home file/web server running Gentoo, and I'm able to run Firefox on it using ssh/X-Forwarding, and it works just fine. I can also pull up my server on Firefox on both the Laptop and the Desktop (just on the LAN, not the Internet). I also tried installing SeaMonkey on the netbook just to see, and I got the same results - it can't access Google or anything. Both computers are dual-booting Windows XP and Arch, and Firefox works on Windows for both computers.
This might be the strangest error I've ever run into on Linux - I'm not sure what to do next to diagnose the issue. I'll gladly post any information anyone thinks is relevant. Any ideas?

It's definitely a DNS issue. I tried as Statix suggested above and it worked after a little tweaking. I went back and checked my modem, and it listed two DNS servers. I put those in resolv.conf manually and they worked too. My router or modem (192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.254 respectively) should each be able to handle DNS on their own, but for some reason they aren't. I know it works; Windows XP and Gentoo both set their nameservers to 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.254 using DHCP and have no issues. When I tried DHCP on Arch, these were the relevant sections of rc.conf:
    eth0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(eth0)
    gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
    ROUTES=(!gateway)
I tried using ROUTES=(gateway) as well (no effect). When I did that, DHCP automatically set my resolv.conf to:
    # Generated by dhcpcd
    # /etc/resolv.conf.head can replace this line
    nameserver 192.168.1.254
    nameserver 192.168.0.1
    # /etc/resolv.conf.tail can replace this line
So changing the eth0 line in rc.conf to:
    eth0="eth0 192.168.0.100 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255"
And putting the nameservers in resolv.conf from the values my modem listed works, but it shouldn't be necessary. I'd rather have it send DNS requests to the router or modem like my other systems work, but at least I have a workaround for the time being. My time is a bit limited, but I'll keep looking into it when I have the chance and post whatever I find. If anyone has any other ideas, I'd appreciate it though. Thanks!

  • Cisco 878 port forwarding not working

I've configged ports to map for smtp, http, ftp, pop3 and https.
When telnetting to the router and checking on the router with show ip nat translation, the correct mappings are made.
The telnet session with the machine behind the router is not established however.
Telnetting from the router to the same machine on the correct ports does work.
At first I thought it was a config error, but the ip nat config is working fine on other routers.
I then put the config on a new 878, thinking some hardware problem. That didn't help, so I'm back at thinking it's a config error.
See attached file for logging and ip nat output as well as config.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Wouter

No, the ranges are not the same. That is, they share the same B-class stats, but no C-class.
Incidentally, the extendable parameter is present in this ios version. When I change the parameter interface dialer0 to the ip address associated with the interface, extendable is addedd automatically. No joy however.
Today I'm going to try and downgrade the ios, another router with 12.4(4)T1 does have functional port mappings....
