Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 - Support for Cisco Catalyst 3560-C Series Switches

Hello together
I have a customer which uses the following switch. Last year I have installed LMS 4.1 for him to manage the switches. Unfortunatly the switch model is not supported. According to the information found on the following site the switch is supported for most of the modules in LMS:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.1/device_support/table/lms41sdt.html
The oid object of the device is the following: 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1465
Supported Software: 12.2(55)EX (Customer has 12.2(55)EX3
Version Support Type: Device Update
So I updated all device updates I was able to find.
Step 1: For that I went to Admin > System > Software Center > Schedule Device Downloads and created a job where I have downloaded the latest versions of all packages.
Step 2: Installed the downloaded packages Admin > System > Software Center > Device Update and installed all the packages.
Unfortunatly I don't see the same result like described in the Supported Device Table for LMS 4.1.
- Cisco View -> works
- Inventory and Config Collection -> works
- Fault Monitor not working -> Error Code Unsupported
- Network Topology Layer 2 Services -> Device Type ciscoProducts.1465, Symbol Question Mark
- VLAN Management -> Doesn't work
- User Tracking > seems also not to work
When I open the report for supported devcies (Reports > System > Device Support) and search for C3560C... I find the following devices, but not mine which i need:
C3560C-8PC-S     .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1466
C3560CG8PC         .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1317
C3560CCG8TC     .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1318
wsC3560CPD8ptS     .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1368
Does anybody have experience with the same switch type / model? Am I doing something wrong or is this type of switch not implemented correctly till now? Further the docuemntation supported devices would be wrong.
Thanks for any feedback Erich

Thanks but I just heard back from my Cisco SE and he assures me that an AP will NOT use up a license.
I've asked him to verify his answer for me.
Is your answer based on real world expereince (the best there is)?  That is, are you running Prime LMS 4.1 and does it indeed use up a license for each light-weight AP it discovers & manages?
Thanks for mentioning options 1-3 but I do not wish to employ any of them.  I don't mind buying the additional licenses for APs ... I just need to know if I have to or not.
Ian.

  • Changing server for Cisco Prime LMS 4.2 installation

    Hi,
I am planning to install Cisco Prime LMS 4.2 with 50 device license on a temporary server. My question is:
Can we install Cisco Prime LMS 4.2 on Server A, applied the license for 50 devices, and then several months later we uninstall LMS on Server A, reinstall it on Server B, and applied the same license for 50 users?
Is it possible and legal to do that? I am worry if the LMS license is binding to the first server's MAC address.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Upgrade Cisco Prime LMS 4.0 to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1

My company has asked me to migrate Prime LMS 4.0 to Prime Infrastructure 2.0 for a client and can not find the guide, the questions are? the migration is possible without an intermediate step? and There is a guide to update LMS 4.0 to PI 2.0 ??
    Thanks in advance.

Prime LMS 4.2.2 added support for the PI template directly:
    Export Data for Prime Infrastructure
Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution supports data migration to Prime Infrastructure 1.2. This feature enables user to export the Device Credentials Repository (DCR) data from LMS 4.2.x versions to Prime Infrastructure 1.2. The data backup status and backup location are displayed at the bottom of the Export Data for Prime Infrastructure page. The data being exported from LMS and the data imported back to PI are listed as follows.
    Data exported from LMS
    •Device Credentials Repository (DCR)
    •Software Image Management
    •Config Archive
    •Change Audit

  • VMware Tools on Cisco Prime LMS 4.1

    Hello,
I have just installed Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 from .ova file on a VMware architecture. My customer wants to know if the server is compatible with vmware tools.
I looked over Cisco documentation but it is never mentionned.
Has someone allready take a look into that ?
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Abel JULIAN,
    Nextiraone FRANCE.

Yes, the datastore is located on a remote SAN so the original source won't be impacted by the loss of the ESXi. But in a perfect world (with VMtools), Vmotion will move VM from one ESX to another in case of failure, performance problem etc.
Those functions won't be accessible here, and the VM will need to be restarted manually and reaffected to another ESXi in case of failure. Like I said before, the LMS server is not a critical application so that is not a huge issue. The important is to know that Cisco does not support this feature.
Anyway, I have my answer so it is ok for me, I will notify my customer.
    Thanks you for your time,
    Regards,
    Abel

  • Cisco Prime LMS MPLS monitoring

Hi all, have anyone used Cisco Prime LMS for MPLS xconnect monitoring?
Currently when these traps arrive to Cisco Prime LMS they are classified as "InformAlarm Unidentified Trap Generic".
Is it maybe possible to load the correct MIB for these traps and get Cisco Prime LMS to understand them correctly?
The raw traps looks like this:
    xconnect down:
    09:58:42.352760 IP (tos 0x40, ttl 245, id 12, offset 0, flags [none], proto: UDP (17), length: 114) routerhost.51591 > lmshost.snmptrap: [udp sum ok]  { SNMPv1 { Trap(71)  E:cisco.10.106.2 10.130.1.13 enterpriseSpecific s=1 424011509 E:cisco.10.106.1.2.1.26.2=2 E:cisco.10.106.1.2.1.26.2=2 } }
    xconnect up:
    09:59:48.597894 IP (tos 0x40, ttl 245, id 14, offset 0, flags [none], proto: UDP (17), length: 114) routerhost.51591 > lmshost.snmptrap: [udp sum ok]  { SNMPv1 { Trap(71)  E:cisco.10.106.2 10.130.1.13 enterpriseSpecific s=2 424018144 E:cisco.10.106.1.2.1.26.2=1 E:cisco.10.106.1.2.1.26.2=1 } }
I found some more info about the traps at:
    http://tools.cisco.com/Support/SNMP/do/BrowseMIB.do?local=en&step=2&mibName=CISCO-IETF-PW-MIB-V1SMI
    BR /Crille

    Here is an update:
After discussing with TAC there seems to be 2 possible solutions in LMS right now:
    1. Create a threshold that monitors the specific OID for the xconnect vc and generate alarm if it changes.
    2. Configure the device to send syslog when a xconnect state changes and create an "automated syslog action".
I have not tried either of them yet so I dont know which one works best, but option 2 seems easiest (its a one time config).

  • NCS & Cisco Prime LMS 4.X

    Hi,
We have got preinstalled Cisco prime NCS appliance, is ts possible if we can insall Cisco Prime LMS 4.X on the same appliance and upgrade the existing running LMS 3.X which is running on Windows server on the appliance or do we need seperate appliance for cisco prime LMS 4.x.

I am not sure if I understand you correctly but if you go for a physical appliance, NCS and LMS both needs their own dedicated appliances. Have a look here:
Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.1 Ordering and Licensing Guide
that's what is written in section " Ordering Information for New Customers" point 5.:
    5. Purchase the physical appliance if the desired deployment option is a physical appliance rather than a virtual appliance. Both Cisco Prime NCS and Cisco Prime LMS support the physical appliance deployment option. Each product requires its own dedicated physical appliance. Refer to Table 2.

  • Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 - Do access points use up a node count license?

    Hi Everyone,
I wish to purchase Cisco Prime LMS 4.1, particularly Cisco part # R-LMS-4.1-500-K9 which support 500 Cisco nodes.
We have about 360 Cisco switches/routers/ASA/FWs/WLCs so the 500 nodes license would seem to suffice for now & for future growth.
We also have about 200 lightweight APs that are managed & monitored by our WLC/WCS/Navigator environment.
According to the device support documentation for LMS, it supports and I assume will auto-discover these APs.
Does that mean these APs will use up node licenses on LMS even though management of the APs is done by WLC/WCS?  If so is there an easy way to suppress discovery of APs by LMS so we don’t have to purchase extra node licenses for LMS?  Or, does LMS offer additional support features for wireless APs not already offered by WLC/WCS/Navigator?
Just trying to understand how many network node licenses for LMS I have to purchase.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Ian.

  • Issues with Cisco Prime LMS 4.2.3

    Hi,
I'm trailing Cisco Prime LMS 4.2.3 Soft appliance on ESXi before I deploy it into a live environment and am having some issues.
I've upgraded to version 4.2.3 and the box was working fine after the upgrade however on power it up today the Apache service will not start.
If I look at the LMS application I see this for the Apache service.
"Apache                Administrator has shut down this server   0 "
I have tried to starting it.
    CiscoLMS42/admin# application start Apache
    % Application failed to start

If I run an application operation debug at the same time I get the following output.

I'm at a complete lose as to where to look next, failing anything else I'll have to rebuild it, but it would be nice to know how to get the Apache up and running again.

  • Cisco Prime LMS appliance Compatibilty with Cisco Prime NCS

    Hi,
Is it possible if we can install Cisco Prime LMS 4.2 in the appliance which is inbuilt with Cisco Prime  NCS .
We have PILMS42-1.5K-U license available with us.
    Rgds,
    Kamal

One can install either LMS 4.2 or NCS on the a physical (software on PRIME-NCS-APL-K9 hardware) or virtual appliance (software installed on customer-provided VM).
The two products (NCS and LMS) cannot coexist on a given appliance instance. This is due to change in the future as LMS and NCS merge under the Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 release but for now they are distinct and separate products with a common approach and similar look and feel but requiring separate servers, whether physical or virtual.
Please refer to the ordering and licensing guide here.

  • Device discovery in Cisco Prime LMS 4.1

    Hi,
im using CISCO PRIME LMS 4.1 for manage my network, i ran a device discovery job using a ping sweep on the ip ranges of my network, ie 192.168.1.0/24, 192.168.2.0/24 and so on... the discovery found all my devices, but it discovered duplicate devices with illegal ip Addresses, ie
    ip                                    device
    192.168.1.255               S1
    192.168.2.0                    S1
    192.168.2.1                    S1 (the real address)
    all in reachable status.
i dont undestad why the program adds that repeated illegal addresses.. someone can help me with that issue??
how can i run the device discovery to avoid this problem?
    Many Thanks.

    Julio,
Don't let LMS decide on what IP address it will manage the device.
For example, let LMS do a lookup of the sysname in DNS, then it will use the IP address coming back from the DNS as management IP.
This is what I do to avoid this.
But I also feel that LMS should be bright enough to never manage the same device twice. I think Campus DFM or RME will eventually figure out the 2 devices are the same, but they can't "fix" what is wrong in the DCR.
    Cheers,
    Michel

  • Cisco Prime LMS compared to NCS

What is the difference between the 2.  Can NCS do the same as LMS, but with support for wireless.

LMS and NCS will be merged in the next release, most likely in the coming few months. So the "LMS VS NCS" issue will be moot.
"LMS Vs other monitoring tools" is a huge question. It really depends on what you have in your infrastructure and what you want to do with your network management system.
If you're multi-vendor, LMS falls short as it is 98% designed for all-Cisco systems. On the other hand, few (or no) competitors offer the breadth of solution for a Cisco LAN infrastructure that LMS does. Also, LMS will of course have access to internal development resources and systems that no other vendor will ever offer. If LMS has a bug or IOS has a bug, it's one vendor who needs to fix it - no finger-pointing.
Many people use Solarwinds, for example. To begin to approach LMS, one would need both Solarwinds NPM and NCM. Even then you would not have the topology service or workflow that LMS gives you. You would also not have CiscoView. Likewise HP OpenView NNM falls short. As does What's Up Gold. They all do their intended function well - they just don't have the breadth of services built-in for a Cisco shop.
If all you need is configuration file management / archiving, then sure stand up an open source RANCID installation. It might be a bit cruder and require more Linux admin skills but it's perfectly functional. You won't get any support and that's all it does, but it does it in a workable fashion.
If all you need is performance management, use Cacti.
If all you need is fault management, use Nagios.
If you need fault and performance and are multi-vendor, use NPM.
If you need it all wrapped together and are a Cisco shop, use LMS.

  • SYSLOG Cisco Prime LMS

    Hi friends,
I have a question about my syslog from Cisco Prime LMS 4.1, the hours from this syslog in the LMS is diferent from my switch log.  I dont kown why.. I verified the hours betewen switch y the Cisco Prime is the same(the LMS is over Windows Server 2008R2) . both are the same log but in diferent hours about 5 hours.
maybe I have to configure the hours for Syslog in the Cisco Prime.
    Log from Switch
    Log from Cisco Prime LMS

If you have LMS, i am not sure, but if you have PI 1.2. Take a look at my post.
Basically, syslog feature doesn't work well. I could see couple of syslog through event / alarm, but syslog itself is not working properly.

Thanks Marvin for your advice. Just one last question, there's a statement in the URL that you've provided
"Ensure that the passwords, HTTPS port and SMTP server details are same in both LMS 3.2 SP1, LMS 4.0.1 or LMS 4.1 server and LMS 4.2 server with Symantec Veritas implementation, while migrating data from non-HA to HA environment."
Does this mean my client need to purchase Symantec Veritas, as well?
