Clarification regarding set newname

Hi,
We have an Oracle 10g Database (10.2.0.4) on AIX (6.1). We taken backup from another and then moved to the files to the new machine.
First the backup files catalog as follows;
RMAN> run
2> {
3> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_06lpi3e4.bkp';
4> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_0glpi5jg.bkp';
5> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_0elpi55n.bkp';
6> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_0flpi58h.bkp';
7> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_07lpi3e4.bkp';
8> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_08lpi3e4.bkp';
9> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_0ilpi5l1.bkp';
10> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_09lpi3e4.bkp';
11> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_0jlpi626.bkp';
12> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_0alpi44r.bkp';
13> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_0klpi63f.bkp';
14> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_0blpi46c.bkp';
15> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_0clpi4m3.bkp';
16> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_0dlpi4tr.bkp';
17> }
Now we set newname
RMAN> run
2> {
3> set newname for datafile 11 to '/u011/orccle/proddctc/ckd01.dbf';
4> set newname for datafile 12 to '/u015/orccle/proddctc/ckx01.dbf';
5> set newname for datafile 13 to '/u011/orccle/proddctc/clrd01.dbf';
6> set newname for datafile 14 to '/u015/orccle/proddctc/clrx01.dbf';
7> set newname for datafile 15 to '/u011/orccle/proddctc/cmsd01.dbf';
8> set newname for datafile 16 to '/u015/orccle/proddctc/cmsx01.dbf';
9> set newname for datafile 17 to '/u011/orccle/proddctc/cmvd01.dbf';
10> set newname for datafile 18 to '/u015/orccle/proddctc/cmvx01.dbf';
11> set newname for datafile 19 to '/u011/orccle/proddctc/cpd01.dbf';
12> set newname for datafile 20 to '/u015/orccle/proddctc/cpx01.dbf';
13> set newname for datafile 21 to '/u011/orccle/proddctc/cpplyyyd01.dbf';
14> set newname for datafile 22 to'/u015/orccle/proddctc/cpplyyyx01.dbf';
15> }
It fails as paths/locations on the new system are different. Please advice.
Regards

It fails during restore. I have tired as
RMAN> run
2> {
3> set newname for datafile 1 to '/u011/oracle/test/system01.dbf';
4> set newname for datafile 2 to '/u011/oracle/test/system02.dbf';

6> set newname for datafile 4 to '/u011/oracle/test/system04.dbf';
7> set newname for datafile 5 to '/u011/oracle/test/system05.dbf';
8> restore tablespace "SYSTEM";
switch datafile all;9>
10> recover tablespace "SYSTEM";

  • Some clarifications regarding Aironet settings

    Hi,
    i need some clarifications regarding configuring Aironet stand-alone AP (in this case AIR-LAP1131AG).
    Under Security->SSID Manager:
    what is the purpose of Network ID?
    Under Guest Mode/Infrastructure SSID Settings - what is the purpose of Set Infrastructure SSID?
    and Force Infrastructure Devices to associate only to this SSID?
    Cheers,

    Assign a Service Set Identifier (SSID) to each VLAN configured on the AP. SSIDs enable endpoints to select the wireless VLAN they will use for sending and receiving traffic. These wireless VLANs and SSIDs map to wired VLANs. For voice endpoints, this mapping ensures priority queuing treatment and access to the voice VLAN on the wired network

  • I have some questions regarding setting up a software RAID 0 on a Mac Pro

    I have some questions regarding setting up a software RAID 0 on a Mac pro (early 2009).
    These questions might seem stupid to many of you, but, as my last, in fact my one and only, computer before the Mac Pro was a IICX/4/80 running System 7.5, I am a complete novice regarding this particular matter.
    A few days ago I installed a WD3000HLFS VelociRaptor 300GB in bay 1, and moved the original 640GB HD to bay 2. I now have 2 bootable internal drives, and currently I am using the VR300 as my startup disk. Instead of cloning from the original drive, I have reinstalled the Mac OS, and all my applications & software onto the VR300. Everything is backed up onto a WD SE II 2TB external drive, using Time Machine. The original 640GB has an eDrive partition, which was created some time ago using TechTool Pro 5.
    The system will be used primarily for photo editing, digital imaging, and to produce colour prints up to A2 size. Some of the image files, from scanned imports of film negatives & transparencies, will be 40MB or larger. Next year I hope to buy a high resolution full frame digital SLR, which will also generate large files.
    Currently I am using Apple's bundled iPhoto, Aperture 2, Photoshop Elements 8, Silverfast Ai, ColorMunki Photo, EZcolor and other applications/software. I will also be using Photoshop CS5, when it becomes available, and I will probably change over to Lightroom 3, which is currently in Beta, because I have had problems with Aperture, which, until recent upgrades (HD, RAM & graphics card) to my system, would not even load images for print. All I had was a blank preview page, and a constant, frozen "loading" message - the symbol underneath remained static, instead of revolving!
    It is now possible to print images from within Aperture 2, but I am not happy with the colour fidelity, whereas it is possible to produce excellent, natural colour prints using its "minnow" sibling, iPhoto!
    My intention is to buy another 3 VR300s to form a 4 drive Raid 0 array for optimum performance, and to store the original 640GB drive as an emergency bootable back-up. I would have ordered the additional VR300s already, but for the fact that there appears to have been a run on them, and currently they are out of stock at all, but the more expensive, UK resellers.
    I should be most grateful to receive advice regarding the following questions:
    QUESTION 1:
    I have had a look at the RAID setting up facility in Disk Utility and it states: "To create a RAID set, drag disks or partitions into the list below".
    If I install another 3 VR300s, can I drag all 4 of them into the "list below" box, without any risk of losing everything I have already installed on the existing VR300?
    Or would I have to reinstall the OS, applications and software again?
    I mention this, because one of the applications, Personal accountz, has a label on its CD wallet stating that the Licence Key can only be used once, and I have already used it when I installed it on the existing VR300.
    QUESTION 2:
    I understand that the failure of just one drive will result in all the data in a Raid 0 array being lost.
    Does this mean that I would not be able to boot up from the 4 drive array in that scenario?
    Even so, it would be worth the risk to gain the optimum performance provide by Raid 0 over the other RAID setup options, and, in addition to the SE II, I will probably back up all my image files onto a portable drive as an additional precaution.
    QUESTION 3:
    Is it possible to create an eDrive partition, using TechTool Pro 5, on the VR300 in bay !?
    Or would this not be of any use anyway, in the event of a single drive failure?
    QUESTION 4:
    Would there be a significant increase in performance using a 4 x VR300 drive RAID 0 array, compared to only 2 or 3 drives?
    QUESTION 5:
    If I used a 3 x VR300 RAID 0 array, and installed either a cloned VR300 or the original 640GB HD in bay 4, and I left the Startup Disk in System Preferences unlocked, would the system boot up automatically from the 4th. drive in the event of a single drive failure in the 3 drive RAID 0 array which had been selected for startup?
    Apologies if these seem stupid questions, but I am trying to determine the best option without foregoing optimum performance.

    Well said.
    Steps to set up RAID
    Setting up a RAID array in Mac OS X is part of the installation process. This procedure assumes that you have already installed Mac OS 10.1 and the hard drive subsystem (two hard drives and a PCI controller card, for example) that RAID will be implemented on. Follow these steps:
    1. Open Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities).
    2. When the disks appear in the pane on the left, select the disks you wish to be in the array and drag them to the disk panel.
    3. Choose Stripe or Mirror from the RAID Scheme pop-up menu.
    4. Name the RAID set.
    5. Choose a volume format. The size of the array will be automatically determined based on what you selected.
    6. Click Create.
    Recovering from a hard drive failure on a mirrored array
    1. Open Disk Utility in (/Applications/Utilities).
    2. Click the RAID tab. If an issue has occurred, a dialog box will appear that describes it.
    3. If an issue with the disk is indicated, click Rebuild.
    4. If Rebuild does not work, shut down the computer and replace the damaged hard disk.
    5. Repeat steps 1 and 2.
    6. Drag the icon of the new disk on top of that of the removed disk.
    7. Click Rebuild.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2559
    Drive A + B = VOLUME ONE
    Drive C + D = VOLUME TWO
    What you put on those volumes is of course up to you and easy to do.
    A system really only needs to be backed up "as needed" like before you add or update or install anything.
    /Users can be backed up hourly, daily, weekly schedule
    Media files as needed.
    Things that hurt performance:
    Page outs
    Spotlight - disable this for boot drive and 'scratch'
    SCRATCH: Temporary space; erased between projects and steps.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StandardRAIDlevels
    (normally I'd link to Wikipedia but I can't load right now)
    Disk drives are the slowest component, so tackling that has always made sense. Easy way to make a difference. More RAM only if it will be of value and used. Same with more/faster processors, or graphic card.

    the PATH and CLASSPATH were set accordingly, as with JDK1.1.8, and there was no classes.zip in classpath
    also the class file or the jar file looks weird or wrapped in the error message : 'FILES\ORA95_2\LITE\DESIGNER\oldes.jar;C:\PROGRAM'
    Another interesting thing I noticed is if I run oldes.exe from Installation CD, the Oracle Lite Designer runs fine, and without error, I'm able to modify tables in the database of my laptop also.
    Could someone shade some light on what am I doing wrong here ?
    Thanks for help in advance .

  • Moving RAC/ASM to single-node non-rac SET NEWNAME not working

    Good morning,
    I'm trying to restore a rac/asm database to a non-rac environment to simulate disaster recovery under worst-case circumstances.

    1) Restored pfile

    Hi,
    I assume your problem is either in your pfile ( but you indicate you have removed all RAC settings), or in your control file.
    I would recommend to remove the control files and create them later as soon as the datafiles have been restored, using the commands:
    STARTUP NOMOUNT
    CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "OMST01" NORESETLOGS FORCE LOGGING NOARCHIVELOG
    -- SET STANDBY TO MAXIMIZE PERFORMANCE
    MAXLOGFILES 100
    MAXLOGMEMBERS 2
    MAXDATAFILES 1024
    MAXINSTANCES 8
    MAXLOGHISTORY 10210
    LOGFILE
    < your logfiles >
    DATAFILE
    < your datafiles >
    CHARACTER SET <your character set>;So the steps are

  • Clarification regarding Shadow Table

    Hi All,
    Clarification regarding Shadow Table. FKK_GPSHAD is a shadow table that belongs to Business Partner. The doubts that i have is
    What is Shadow Table?
    What is the purpose of Shadow table?
    Is it correct way to update Shadow table Manually(Not using any BAPi etc....)?
    Is any BAPI available to update The above mentioned Shadow table.
    Thanks in Advance..

    Reclustering InfoCubes:
    With reclustering, the InfoCube fact tables are always completely converted. The system createsshadow tables with a new clustering schema and copies all of the data from the original tables into the shadow tables. As soon as the data is copied, the system creates indexes and the original table replaces the shadow table. After the reclustering request has been successfully completed, both fact tables exist in their original state (name of shadow table) as well as in their modified state with the new clustering schema (name of original table).
    You can only use reclustering for InfoCubes. Reclustering deactivates the active aggregates of the InfoCubes; they are reactivated after the conversion.
    Reclustering DataStore Objects
    Reclustering completely converts the active table of the DataStore object. The system creates a shadow table with a new clustering schema and copies all of the data from the original table into the shadow table. As soon as the data is copied, the system creates indexes and the original table replaces the shadow table. After the reclustering request has been successfully completed, both active tables exist in their original state (name of shadow table) as well as in their modified state with the new clustering schema (name of original table).
    You can only use reclustering for standard DataStore objects and DataStore objects for direct update. You cannot use reclustering for write-optimized DataStore objects. User-defined multidimensional clustering is not available for write-optimized DataStore objects.

  • RMAN can't SET NEWNAME for datafiles added after Level 1

    Version: 11.2.0.3
    Platform : Solaris 10
    I have the most recent Level 0 , Level 1 and post-L1 Archive logs of the source DB.
    I am trying restore, recover in a different machine using plain RMAN (not RMAN DUPLICATE) into a new datafile location.
    After the Level 1 backup was taken, 2 datafiles (namdata01.dbf, finaldata01.dbf) were added ( this got 'recorded' on the subsequent post-L1 archivelogs )
    Before I ran restore and recover, I restored the latest control file from the most recent L1
    RMAN> restore controlfile from '/u01/CATALOGTST/rmanBkpPieces/SNTCDEV_L1_0cnjqk54_1_1_20120829.rmbk' ;Understandably, this control file doesn't have info about the 2 datafiles added after L1 .Wish I could restore control file from archive log :)
    So, I cataloged the archive logs as well using CATALOG command.
    RMAN> catalog start with '/u01/CATALOGTST/rmanBkpPieces';

    5> restore database;
    6> switch datafile all;
    7> switch tempfile all;
    8> recover database;
    9> }RMAN executes the commands in the run block stepwise. In your case, starting from "set newname for database..." and lastly executing "recover database...".
    Let me interpret it for you.
    1. You restored the controlfile from the L1 backup which does not have any information about the 2 newly added datafiles. You cataloged the backuppieces and the archives to this controlfile, which means that the controlfile would now be aware that the required backups and archives are in this cataloged location.
    2. You set newname for database to the desired location, thereby this command is executed restoring the database from the L0 and L1 backups. (These 2 backups do not have any information about the newly added datafiles and hence the 2 files would still not be restored).
    3. You execute restore database which restores the files from L0 and L1 backup.
    4. Switch datafile all, this renames all the files that were restored in the previous steps to the desired name/location that was mentioned in step 2.
    5. Recover database: This is where the archivelogs come into picture. The data in the archives would be created & recovered. The newly added datafiles are now created & recovered but RMAN does not go back to STEP 2 and STEP 4 to re-execute the commands in STEP2 and STEP4 to restore it to the desired location (STEP 2) and Rename it (STEP 4). The files will have to renamed later by moving them manually to the location that you require.
    So, RMAN does not execute the SET NEWNAME for datafiles which were added after the backup as the information about these files do not exist in the RMAN backuppieces.

  • Set newname vs. configure auxname

    I thought I had seen this somewhere before, but couldn't find it, so I apologize if this has been addressed before.
    Is it better to use configure auxname when cloning a database or to use the set newname command? Is there a difference?
    Thanks.

    i have been using configure auxname for a couple of weeks now and it has worked without a problem. the main benefit is that i don't have to constantly run the set newname command each time i go to duplicate the database. i just completed a duplicate process yesterday, again, with no problems using the configure auxname.
    i am working with 9.2.0.6 on AIX 5L.

  • Rman restore  set newname

    We are cloing a database, but using the restore method ( version 11.1.0.7)
    The source and destination path are different. As we are using the source controlfile, before restoration SET new name inside the run block is
    the way to change the path.
    I was just wondering, if there is any other way to do it. Because, we have around 1000 datafiles, and dont want write everything in the run block.
    Also, this goes from Non-ASM to ASM. I tried DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT, but it seems to be not working.
    run
    Set newname for datafile 1 to '+DATA_DG1';
    Set newname for datafile 2 to '+DATA_DG1';
    Set newname for datafile 3 to '+DATA_DG1';
    Set newname for datafile 4 to '+DATA_DG1';
    restore database;
    switch datafile all;

    I was exactly looking for something like that.

    Hi,
    I want clarification regarding Segments, Datafiles and extents.
    As we know that A segment is made of one or more extents and extents are composed of one or more datablocks in the HD.
    Since all data are store in Datafiles which are composed of extents and datablocks. I want to know weather a table(Segment) can span to multiple datafiles or in a sigle datafile.

  • Regarding setting additional clauses to  the Standadr VO

    Hi,
    I have a standard VO. I want to append certain conditions to the query of the VO.
    The additional clause begins with 'minus'.
    I have read something in this forum itself about getting the existing query from the VO and then appending the clauses to the query and adding the query back to the VO.
    Please give me your valuable inputs regarding this issue.
    Thanks,
    Priya

  • Clarifications regarding Logistics Invoice Verification

    Hi SAP Gurus,
    I just wanted to confirm with you something that I noticed regarding the behavior of SAP MM LIV:
    1. It seems that for purchase orders with Account Assignment, you can change the Account Assignment Category in the LIV process. Say for example, I had a PO line item charged to a Cost Center; however, upon LIV, I can change the charging to say an Asset instead. I was just wondering why would SAP allow such transaction/s to happen? Wouldn't it compromise the integrity of the whole document trail (PO account assignment is different from the LIV)?
    2. Is there a way to edit the Account Assignment for a Purchase Order line item even if that item has been fully received and invoiced? I checked with the standard test system that I have at the moment and I observed that you can still edit the other PO details (quantity, price) even though the PO line item has been fully GR'ed and LIV'ed. However, the Account Assignment field is set to Display only. I checked the field selection for purchase orders and found no connection (the Account Assignment field is set to optional for all relevant factors)
    Hope to hear from you soon!
    Best regards,
    DeLo

    Hi Delo,
    Please find answers to your queries below in bold.
    1. I was just wondering why would SAP allow such transaction/s to happen? Wouldn't it compromise the integrity of the whole document trail (PO account assignment is different from the LIV)?  -
    There could be some business scenarios in some organisations, where in Procurement team uses generic cost centre (header), which is specific to particular department or group, to procure. But at the time of Invoice Receipt, AP team knows exact cost centre or order, etc  to post the amounts. To cover these kind of scenarios, SAP probably has provided the option to change acount assignment.
    2. Is there a way to edit the Account Assignment for a Purchase Order line item even if that item has been fully received and invoiced? -
    These field changes at various levels can be configured via t-code OME9.
    a) IR Changeable - This field if selected will allow to change the account assignment of a purchase order item at the time of invoice receipt.
    b) Acct. assg. changeable - This field is selected will allow to change account assignment for an item following goods receipt or invoice receipt.
    Hope this clarifies your queries.

  • Clarification regarding GO LIVE

    Dear all,
    I need a Clarification required regarding GO LIVE PRODUCTION server
    The client wants to upload available opening data in SAP and work parallel in both existing ERP and SAP as well.
    At the end of 2nd Qtr, They want to compare data in both the systems and want to reset the data in SAP for any differences in data.
    For example we can reset the stock through physical inventory process.
    Like wise can we reset the G/L account balances in SAP so that the client can continue only with SAP there after?
    Balance sheet will be taken in existing system for 1st 6 months and in SAP for next 6 months.
    Is this practice RECOMMENDED or do we have to set up new production client for the next six months?
    Please suggest.
    Thanks & Regards,
    AR

    Hi,
    The client needs a benchmark to understand the transactions in SAP goes well.
    At the end of the Quarter they would take balance sheet in both the SAP system and the Legacy system and compare them.
    If both of these match, thats great..
    If there are any differences, they would then need to understand why these differences are.
    Inorder to balance both of these, they would need to pass journal entries into the respective ledgers..
    The main problem would be for them to post the documents in both of the systems parallely.
    Hope your doubt is cleared.
    Cheers
    Raghu
