Classpath, dos finds java.exe but not javac.exe

Hi all,
I have still been trying to have dos recognize the javac command. I have used many methods for updating the classpath and path in WinMe through the environment variable and in the autoexec.bat. I am using the J2SDK1.3.1_02. When I go to the proper directory and use the java command to run a .class file my simple "Hello" program runs fine. However, if I try to compile a new file ex. "Helloagain.java" using: javac Helloagain.java , I receive the "bad command or file name" message. This doesn't make sense because java.exe(which works), is in the same bin as javac.exe!
My complete autoexec.bat file in notepad reads as follows:
SET COMSPEC=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM
SET windir=C:\WINDOWS
SET winbootdir=C:\WINDOWS
SET PROMPT=$p$g
SET TEMP=C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
SET TMP=C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
SET PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\MSSQL7\BINN;C:\J2SDK1.3.1_02\BIN
SET CLASSPATH=C:\PROGRA~1\CANONC~1\PHOTOD~1\ADOBEC~1;.;C:\J2SDK1.3.1_02\lib\tools.jar
I have struggled with this for several weeks. I have also checked numerous online resources. any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

Well, that's what is wrong! Change the
C:\J2SDK1.3.1_02\BIN to C:\JDK1.3.1\bin
Kamranyes, that is what was wrong. I should have used jdk1.3.1. I had tried that before but tried adding version #'s like 1.3.1_02.
The initial java kit I downloaded says j2sdk1.3.1_02 on the winzip file, yet it extracted to a folder called jdk1.3.1, which is the one I should have used in the first place .
Now that I have the dos prompt working , I will go and use ForteCE. lol. Thanks for you insight.
Jeff

    Hi all,

    Hi,
    Can someone validate whether below query is right way to find lines shipped but not invoiced.
    select line_id,invoice_interface_status_code,flow_status_code,fulfilled_quantity,shipped_quantity
    from oe_order_lines_all
    where shipped_quantity is not null --- means line is shipped
    and invoice_interface_status_code != ‘YES’ -- means line is not invoiced

  • Path not working in win xp pro, can call java but not javac !

    Hello,
    I just upgraded to win xp and set up the J2SDK. I have set the path variable in the environment settings.
    when I tried to test this by typing java from my documents directory it works all right but not the javac command, to which it gives the error
    "'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file."
    when I type path then I get the following result -
    PATH=C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\FSC\PCOBOL32;C:\Program Files\FSC\PCOBOL32;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\BINN;c:\borland\bcc55\bin; c:\jdk1.4.0_01\bin;C:\FSC\PCOBOL32;C:\PROGRAM\PCOBOL32 , so my path settings are correct.
    Why is this happening? Thanks for any help.

    P.S. I also am also unable to invoke the c++ compiler from my documents, so I think this may be a problem with my path, but then how am i able to call the java.exe ?

    In win xp you must type the name of the directory as Dos-8 format,
    for example, if you want to use c:\J2sdk1.4.0_01 you must write in
    the path c:\j2sdk1~1.0_0

  • Jave installed but not enabled

    Sorry, I'm sure this is a basic question, that I should be able to figure out myself, but hopefully someone will be able to assist me. I am trying to enable Java so that I can use/access programs that uses the Sun Java applet. I've gone to my control panel and see that it's on my computer. I've tried to re-download/intall it but it says I already have it even after removing it. I've done the "test" and it says that it's intstalled but not enabled. I've gone to Tools--internet options--Security--Custom-- there only seems to be a java option under scripting, but I've seen recommendations to make sure it's enabled in another section, but that isn't an option. I do not see the Java coffee cup logo in my control panel either and I can not access the Sun Java Console under tools either. It's there, but nothing happens when I click on it. Sorry so long, just trying to give some background into what I've already tried. Thanks for any help

    I also have an hs_err file on my desktop that seems to be related.

  • When downloading/uploading any file with Firefox, Finder shows date but not time

    On my iMac, as I either upload or download a file using Firefox after installing Lion, the Finder window that opens for me to tell it where to either download the file to or upload it from, shows dates of all the existing docs there, but not the time. How can I make it show the time as well?

    I have found the problem.
    A download manager had been installed for a specific website and it was butting in all the time. Even after removing it with 'Add or remove software' it still had its hooks into the system and it was impossible to download anything as it now would not run.
    Had to do an XP 'System restore' before I could get rid of it.
    The offending program was MD_setup.exe size 3,045KB from the themediadownloader.com

  • How to use HOST call DOS continuous running problem but NOT hold Forms scre

    In my Forms, I have a Button a start a MP3 recorder program to record voice, I use HOST command to init the program successfully. However, since the MP3 recorder program in continuous running, the HOST command hold my Forms screen until the MP3 program stop.
    I have try to use Open_form to open another form to start this MP3 program. It still hold the whole Forms system.
    Is there any solution to start a continuous running DOS program but NOT hold the Forms screen?
    Thank You !

    You didn't provide your host-command, so i simply guess its something like
    HOST('"c:\Program Files\mp3.exe" someoptions');instead of calling the program directly, you could use a commadn batch along with the start-command, for this should launch the program asynchronously:
    HOST('cmd /c start "c:\Program Files\mp3.exe" someoptions');hope this helps.

  • The following is working as a Java application but not as a DynPro App

    Hello,
    Please have a look at the following code:
    URL testURL = new URL("http://<host>/error.txt");
    HttpURLConnection c = (HttpURLConnection)(testURL.openConnection());
    c.setDoInput(true);
    c.setDoOutput(true);
    c.setRequestProperty("Connection","Keep-Alive");
    c.setRequestProperty("Proxy-Connection","Keep-Alive");
    c.setRequestMethod("GET");
    c.setUseCaches(false);
    c.connect();
    int cl = c.getContentLength();
    DataInputStream dis = new DataInputStream(c.getInputStream());
    This code is working well when I run it as an independent Java application but when I "plant" this code on a DynPro application I receive an I/O Exception at this line:
    DataInputStream dis = new DataInputStream(c.getInputStream());
    Can anyone please tell me why?

    503 error means a bit different thing. See http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec10.html
    <i><b>10.5.4 503 Service Unavailable</b>
    The server is currently unable to handle the request due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. The implication is that this is a temporary condition which will be alleviated after some delay. If known, the length of the delay MAY be indicated in a Retry-After header. If no Retry-After is given, the client SHOULD handle the response as it would for a 500 response.
          Note: The existence of the 503 status code does not imply that a server must use it when becoming overloaded. Some servers may wish to simply refuse the connection.
    </i>
    Can you track requests from both stand-alone Java and WD application via some HTTP tunneling tool to check differences in headers, encoding, etc?

  • Find my iPhone can find my mac but not show the location

    hello, i need some feed back. i am using find my iPhone to locate my devices and all is found but one problem, i see that my mac is shown to be online but location not found. how do i get the location to show because my other devices i can see on the map but my mac just shows up as a mac mini. am i doing something wrong?
    Message was edited by: belto

    Yes, your Mac needs to be connected to a Wi-Fi.  See this help text:  iCloud: Troubleshooting Find My iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4006
    Find My Mac can only locate your Mac if it is connected to the Internet via a known Wi-Fi network. If your Mac is connected to the Internet only by an Ethernet cable, Find My Mac will not be able to locate your Mac.
    Your iPad, iPod Touch, or Mac is asleep and not connected to a known Wi-Fi network. You will still be able to request an erase, send a message to display and lock your device, or request that a sound be played. The command will be processed when your device is awakened and connected to the Internet.

  • Finder shows some but not all files in a folder

    In some circumstances, Finder only shows some (but not all) of the files in a folder. Why?
    I notice this with Excel autosave files in the Office 2011 Autorecovery folder (Macintosh HD ▸ Users ▸ Conor ▸ Library ▸ Application Support ▸ Microsoft ▸ Office ▸ Office 2011 AutoRecovery). In my case, Finder shows 34 files but "ls" in a Terminal window reports 40 files. The missing files do not start with a period (.) and have the same permissions as other files that show in Finder (-rw-r--r--@ 1 <myname>  staff). Here's the last four lines of "ls -al" - the first two appear in Finder, but not the last two:
    -rw-r--r--@  1 myname  staff    55296  8 Oct  2013 Word Work File D_1239425731.tmp
    -rw-r--r--@  1 myname  staff    55296  8 Oct  2013 Word Work File D_1240072173.tmp
    -rw-r--r--@  1 myname  staff    52796 13 Feb 11:08 safe1.xlk
    -rw-r--r--@  1 myname  staff    95320 12 Mar 16:06 safe2.xlk
    I have tried copying files from this folder to another folder, and/or changing their names. They still do not appear in Finder, nor are they visible in the File Open dialog of applications, even when the dialog is listing other files in that directory - but if I manually type the name into the File Open dialog, the app manages to find and open the file.
    If I Spotlight-search for the file name, or search in Finder, without specifying that specific directory ("This Mac"), the file is not found, but if I direct the Finder search at that particular directory, then the search returns the relevant files.
    So: why does Finder hide certain files when showing a folder, even though it can find and show those files if you specifically ask for them?
    Now using OSX 10.10 (Yosemite), but I'm pretty sure I noticed this on OSX 10.8 as well.

    So simple - thanks. I'd not been aware of the hidden flag, and now I've found the -O option on ls to display it.
    Follow-on question: I now see that you can change the system-wide defaults to display hidden files with this...
         defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -boolean true ; killall Finder
    ...but is there a way to specify this on a per folder basis? I'm happy enough to hide hidden files in general, but it would be nice if I could set an attribute/flag/whatever on the Office AutoRecovery directory that told Finder "in this folder, always display hidden files". Can I do this?

  • I lost my iPhone 5 and when I use my ipad mini to search for it, it finds my mini but not my phone?

    I lost my iPhone 5 and use the app find my phone using my mini pad, the pad finds itself but not the iPhone

    I don't remember if I set the phone up or not, I guess I'm was under the impression that with iOS 7 the phone had a preset installed to find my phone? I'm curious whether apple has the technology to aid me in finding the phone?

  • Error when running EXE but not from editor. How do I find it?

    When I run my app from the editor, the program works fine. But when I try to run the EXE, I get an "index out of range" error. (???)
    I examined my code extensively but I can't figure out for the life of me where the error's coming from.
    Any advice on how to track it down? Thanks.

    Find out what is using indexes then correct whichever code is using indexes. Apparently you have not examined your code extensively enough.
    Can't you see details of the error and find what line the error occured on?

    Try wrapping all of your code in a try-catch block and msgboxing the stacktrace, that way you can find the line.

  • Memory grows in javaw.exe but not in java.exe process

    Hi,
    I'm testing some heavy emoticons(most of them are animated). Emoticons are shown in a popmenu, each emoticon is inside a JLabel with borders that are draw on mouse over. These JLabels are in a GridLayout.
    The test itself consists in pressing repeatly on a button that opens the popupmenu with emoticons many times.
    I noticed that this test, as a webstart app process (javaw.exe), makes the memory grow continously until someone (SO or JVM) thinks its time to free the mem.
    As a standalone app process (java.exe), mem does not grow - ok it grow about 3 MB and stabilizes
    Is there some good reason for this to happen?
    Thanks

    Hello,
    Metalink says that the OS is ok.
    But now i have found a workaround . I used the installer
    from the Oracle Designer patch 10.1.2.2 with the products.xml from the Oracle
    Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2. The installation cancels at the end. Doesn't
    matter. I continue with the installation of the Oracle Designer patch 10.1.2.2.
    The installation is terminating successful, i correct the tnsnames.ora and the
    Designer is running.
    No award of beauty - but useable as a workaround.

  • 6380 wireless finds Vista machine but not XP machine - scan from XP hangs - hpqdstcp.exe hogging cpu

    Hello,
    Having some trouble with my new 6380 all-in-one.
    Installation is wireless on 802.11g Linksys router. One machine is Windows Vista Home the other a laptop running XP.
    When I scan from the 6380 it does not offer me a choice of computer - it simply scans over to the Vista machine.It does not appear to know the XO machine is there.
    If I attempt to run the scanner via "Solution Center" from my XP machine and attempt to run scan or access scan settings the application hangs with its initial popup window. Other settings unrelated to scanning ARE accessible from the XP running Solution Center.
    I have also repeatedly had the XP machine slow to a crawl and Process Manager indicates hpqdstcp.exe using 70-90% of cpu.
    I AM able to print to the 6380 from the XP machine.
    I AM ALSO able to scan to the XP if I am running my paint program (Paintshop Pro) and select the 6380 as the TWAIN device.
    On the XP machine: I have Avast Antivirus running, Windows Firewall and Spybot Resident. Firewall has a long list of hpq*.* programs on its exception list and I have added a few more from the bin directory just in case.
    I have tried running the "Solution Center" with the antivirus and spybot disabled and the firewall OFF - no change.
    I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the software on the XP to no avail.
    Had a Canon LidoScan scanner connected to the XP machine via USB prior to this. Removed it and uninstalled.
    Have a Dell color Laser connected to the router via USB.
    Ran a registry cleaner having read somewhere that this problem had to do with a registry error.
    I would surely appreciate your thoughts.
    thanks,
    Daryl
