Cleaner 6 Mpegs seems to crash DVD Studio Pro 4

I have slow motion clips that DVD Studio Pro can't seem to encode properly, I get lots of strobbing when played back on a regular monitor. I began an experiment with Cleaner which involved rendering a small QT movie with every DVD mpeg 2 setting, with the exception of 16x9 and Pal. I then import these into a new project and the second I lay one of these files onto a track I get the never ending spinning beach ball. Anyone know why this would happen?
Tried on laptop running Panther and G5 running Tiger.

Hi Byron,
Welcome to the forum.
I take you have experimented with the filters in compressor!
My suggestion would be to do the slow mo work in something like FCP and get the uncompressed quicktime file the way you like it. Then encode using Compressor.
Cleaners mpegs have always been of poor quality (visually that is). I am surprisedd that its output is not MP@ML though.

  • MPEG2 Crashes DVD Studio Pro 4

Everytime I select a mpeg 2 (.m2v) in my import assests window, DVD Studio Pro immediately crashes. Even when I select the movie file from my finder, the finder crashes. This isn't just one movie file that is making these programs crash. I have tried 8 different ones. The weird part is that the .m2v files that already exist in the project play perfectly and don't crash DVD Studio Pro. How can I correct this problem? Thank you.

I've just loaded DVD Studio Pro 4 and cannot get it to import assets (of any kind) without crashing. I'm guessing this is a similar problem. I've repaired permissions, loaded the Pro app update and updated to DVD SP4.02. . .but I don't know what "trash the DVD SP plist" means?
At this point I can't operate anything in the menu, for example I can select preferences from the menu but it does nothing. It will open a new project, but won't let me do anything with the project.
I have more than the required hardware and had no trouble with DVD Studio 3. I did load Tiger before loading DVD SP4 if that makes a difference. Any suggestions? (I also loaded FCP 5 at the same time and have had no trouble withthat program.)

  • What's the best way to master an MPEG 2 file for DVD Studio Pro.

In version 4.5 of FCP I was able to use QuickTime conversion to encode to MPEG2. Now that option is not there. I hate using compressor 2 to create MPEG 2 because when I do the MPEG 2 files always seem to studder and I don't know why. I shot my project in HDV. It is about 64 minutes long. Any suggestions on the BEST way to master an MPEG 2 file for DVD Studio pro? Thanks in advance!
    Peter
    PS - I'm using FCP 5

Some people have reported a field reversal problem with HDV to SD DVD encodes. There's an Apple technical document on this issue somewhere, but the problem was supposed to be addressed by a Pro Applications update a couple of years ago... This site might help you get to the bottom of the problem.

  • Compressor footage crashes dvd studio pro 1.5

hi posted this a while back in dvd studio pro forum but there was no answers. I am still getting same problem so thought I would seek advice again.
I am after some advice after I encountered a problem using footage converted with compressor in dvd studio pro 1.5.
If I compresss footage using high quality encode through fcp with compressor option it causes dvd studio pro 1.5 to crash with unexpected error occured, about half way into building either disc or img file .
If I convert the footage using quicktime conversion and guessing bitrate then it works fine .
one thing I have noticed is that the m2v file has a timecode beginning 1 rather then 0 which it has if I convert using the other method, so maybe I have something wrong in compressor settings?
what would be an ideal setting for a 80 minute film?
    I am using fcp 4.5, compressor 1.2.1 quicktime 7.0.3 and os 10.3.9
    thanks

    Hi Adrian
I'm wondering if your build is crashing due to a bitrate spike caused by Compressor - it's reknowned for this. In DVDSP2 and above you get a warning in the log when this happens, maybe 1.5 is somehow missing this. Quicktime's mpeg exporter is a much more stable encoder and doesn't suffer from bitrate spikes. Another thing to have a look at is your audio. If you're using the .aif file that Compressor or DVDSP creates it's a pretty high bitrate od 1.5Mbps. If you re-encode your audio using A.pack to Dolby 2.0 with a bitrate of 192kbps you'll give yourself alot more headroom even with bitrate spikes.
    Hope some of this helps
    Good luck

  • Compressing HD 16:9 to Mpeg 2 format for DVD studio Pro

Everytime I do this I get bad ghosting or lines on anything that moves alot in my footage. I have tried uping mgps and several other formats but everytime I transfer anything to mpeg 2 it comes out bad. My footage is clear and great looking FCP. What can I do to get it to Compress right.

No Im not, I spoke with a guy in Apple and he told me that Compressor has a few bugs in it when it comes to HDV and I should import everything in through another type of HD format.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3 crashes when import m2v files...please help me

All of a sudden, DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3. doesn't like any of my m2v files created by Compressor 2.0.1
these are the same m2v files I imported and burned into DVDs a couple months ago...and any new m2v files I create with Compressor...cause DVD Studio Pro to crash
DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3 will import old m2v files that I created a couple years ago using DVD Studio Pro 2 - and any new audio files created with Compressor and quicktime files from Final Cut Pro 5.
I have 1.5 GB of RAM...my drives are not too full...this was all working fine until recently and I can't see what has changed.

You can't download for the upgrade 4.1 is the Universal Binary and only part of the entire studio

  • FCP to DVD Studio Pro

This might be a FCP question but.... I have a movie project that runs a little over 2 hours. How do I compress it down to less than 4.7gb that it will burn in DVD Studio Pro? I tried using Compression and selecting DVD 120 Minutes Best Quality, but when I inserted the MPEG files into the DVD Studio Pro project it was over 5gb. How can I get or choose the gb size of my compression?

  • DVD Studio Pro crashes when accessing folders with mixed formats

DVD Studio Pro 4 on Mac Book Pro OSX 10.6.8
Program crashes whenever accessing my movies directory. It contains mostly HD content in MOV format. There are some MP4 and M4V in there too.
To check this I copied an MOV, MP4, and M4V into a separate directory. I added this folder to the Video tab of the Palette in DVDSP and same crash occurs until I remove all but MOV content.
Project setting is 1920 x 1080 HD. I have successfully imported several assets in MOV format.
My question is why would DVD Studio Pro crash just because it is pointed to a directory with mixed formats? Would it not just ignore to incorrect formats and move on? Why the crash if I am not trying to import them?

I was going to let this go doc, but....
I discovered the crash by accident while doing Ripple Current training - yes I am a complete DVD SP newbie! Anyway my story: Oh look! There is an icon pointing at my Movies directory in the Video tab. Gee thats cool lets see what is in it. Ooooh s&*t the program just crashed! That can't be right, lets just try it again. Now thats just wrong! I'll beat this thing so lets experiment. Lo and behold its a mixed format problem. Why doesn't DVD SP just ignore any unrecognized formats like any other program? Hmm, being the newbie I am, and there was no hint in the Ripple training, I would ask the docs on the Apple forum. They will know why and what to do!
DVD SP seemingly by default maps my Movies directory. My Movies directory has multiple formats in it from years of use. I have movies for my iPhone, iPad, movies for Vimeo and iTunes, as well as other distribution formats in the same directory. I also have been experimenting with different codecs. My Movies directory has been used as an Internet distribution point. So please excuse me if I did not clean out my Movies directory before launching DVD SP! Little did I know this would even happen. If I could "unmap" this selection permanently I would - do you know how to do this? So far I cannot find any preference for it.
In a round-about way you got there, however so did I on my own - isolate the project to its own directory and NEVER pick on the "Movies" icon. I am not satisfied since it would be really nice to block this from ever happening again. God forbid an incorrect format should ever sneak into the sacred project directory "sorry but DVD SP and incorrect formats don't play nicely", so stop doing that!

  • IDVD and DVD Studio Pro hang and crash since 10.5.6 update

Seems like there are a lot of problems since this 10.5.6 update... I came here b/c of a prob with iDVD and DVD Studio Pro not working anymore. Was just trying to "Share/Export" an iMovie project to iDVD (and then tried again with DVD Studio Pro) and the program just hung and crashed and also wouldn't let me Restart or Shutdown very easily either. What gives?

    nmctech,
Have you tried to reset the SMU/PRAM?

  • DVD Studio Pro Crashes when trying to import file

    Hey all,
Hope you can help me because this is driving me crazy!
Whenever I try to import .ac3/.m2v files to DVDSP, the program crashes. The strange thing is that it is happening only when I try it on one particular file. I seem to be able to import anything else but the audio/video files I really need!  I've tried re-compressing, and re-naming the file, I've also tried importing the file on a different computer, but nothing seems to work.   I haven't tried reinstalling since it seems to work with other files and I've tried it on separate computers.
I'm using Final Cut 7 with Snow Leopard

In FCP, export the file in 4 different chunks.
In Compressor, convert each chunk to ac3/m2v.
    Import each chunk into DVDSP.
Do they ALL cause problems or is it only one chunk?
If only one chunk, there is something wonky with the video in that segment.
Divide it up and go through the same process until you identify the offending source video. Once identified you have a couple of options -
    1. Cut it out and try to stich the material around the hole.
    2. Try using Digital Rebellion's ProMediaTools to see if it can fix the problem.
    3. If the original media was in a different format, go back to the original media, reconvert it and replace the bad segment.

  • Importing MPEG2's causes DVD studio pro 4 to crash

everytime I attempt to import an mpeg 2 into a studio pro project it crashes the program however other files like quicktimes, AIFF etc. import fine. I have tried trashing preferences and re-installing DVD studio pro to no avail. pls help!

Did you get to the latest pro app file?
If so, go into your library/receipts folder, and delete the proapp package in there, then re-run the installer for the latest file to make sure it gets installed fully.
Latest version for you is here:

If this still doesn't work, have a look through the Console logs to see if any clue is given as to why you are having this crash. If you find anything suspicious, post it here...

  • DVD Studio pro must first be serialized in order to use MPEG encoder...

Hey. I recently got DVDSP4. I was using the much older DVDSP1.5 without any problems.
anyway. My problem is, whenever I try to export into an mpeg2 file it gives me this lame serial message....
"DVD Studio Pro must be serialized first in order to run Quicktime MPEG Encoder"
I did a search, and it seems others have ran into this same problem. but there was no solution that I read....
I have quicktime pro 7, but am editing with the very old final cut pro 3.
however, even exporting into a seperate .mov and quitting FCP3 all together, and just trying to export directly from quicktime does not work.
is there any straight answers for this problem? other people have encountered it too obviously....
    please help....

Since you have DVDSP4, I don't understand why you can't just use Compressor rather than exporting MPEG2 from QT Player.

  • Clean DVD Studio Pro menus?

I've never figured out how to get 'clean' DVD Studio Pro menus.  It is as if the quality of the menu is sub-standard.  Every year or so I ask in the forums about this ... if there is some way to get a quality that at least matches the MPEG 2 of the master that is being authored.
I've been through the app countless times to see if there is somewhere I can set the quality of the 'menu' ... nope, or I'm missing it somehow.
I've done my backgrounds the exact pixel size of the menu, I've included the text in the graphic, I've added the the DVD Studio Pro text, used their templates ... the end result is ALWAYS sub-standard.
I'm wondering if anyone has had similar issues ... and discovered a solution?
Or.  If someone can recommend a Mac software DVD authoring app that can deliver nice clean menus ... ?
And that doesn't cost $2,500 if possible.
    All ears,
    Ben

    Hey Russ,
I was wondering about that.  What is the rental thingie?  I will go check it out.  Not crazy about shelling out hundreds and hundreds of big bucks.  Though once my FCP 7 (which I love) starts to not-work because of system upgrades, I'll probably move to Premier et. al.  After being an utter fan and faithful since the inception of FCP.  Sigh.
    Much appreciated,
    Ben

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 crashes when I click on Video in the Pallet

DVD Studio Pro 4 crashes every time I click on the Video tab in the Pallet window. I've restarted the system, relaunched the application and received the same results. Any ideas?

I renamed the current pref file, com.apple.dvdstudiopro.plist, and restarted the application. This seems to have corrected the problem. A new version of the file was created when the application was restarted. Hopefully this will be a long lasting fix.
Thanks very much for your help.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4.2.2 Crashes in Simulation Mode

I'm running the latest version of DVD Studio Pro 4.2.2 with Mac OSX 10.6.6 and for updates, I have the following installed:
    "Pro Applications Update 2010-01 v1.0"
    "Pro Applications Update 2010-02 v1.0"
    "ProKit Update v6.0.1"
    "ProKit Update v5.1"
Essentially, every time I open my DVD project and run the "simulation" it instantly crashes when I roll my mouse over the selection screen's menu. Works fine with keyboard commands, but the mouse crashes the whole thing right away. Makes it very difficult to run tests.
I've tried different computers, hard drives, and older project files. Nothing seems to work.
It sounds like this guy was having the same problem but there's no solution to his post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2645618
Please let me know if anyone's found a solve here.
    Thanks

Why would the search help if there's no answer then?
Because you would understand the landscape.
Isn't there someone monitoring this from Apple?
Apple has no official presence. It's just us users, ducky!
The only thing I found that was slightly helpful was someone saying to downgrade. Is this the only solution? I've been holding off till I knew for sure.
There is no universal solution. What works for some does not work for others. Some are not "suffering" this problem at all. It is a mystery for sure.
