Click wheel on my 30gb black video...

Do the icons on the click wheel light up? I was told by an Apple rep on the phone that they light up (so you can see what button is what when you're in a dark place) but mine don't seem to. Is there a setting a need to turn on to make this work or was he bs'n me?

The only icons that light up on an ipod is the 3rd generation ipod. The video ipod's click whell does not light up. It was BS!

  • Upgrading iPod Click Wheel (4th Gen) Version --- iPod Video Question

I have a two year old iPod that has no colour and a click wheel. For Christmas, i'm thinking about upgrading to an iPod video. I have over 500 songs and videos on iTunes, although i cannot play videos on my current iPod, and i was wondering..
If i get a new iPod video, is there any way to keep all of my old songs currently on my library and put them on my iPod video?

yes.. just plug in the new ipod to your computer and it will sync whats on your library to your new ipod.

  • Problem with my ipod (4th gen i think, the one with the click wheel)

after i updated my ipod (its the old click wheel one with the black and white screen, brought in 2004) with update 3.1.1 (2006-03-23) i got some new songs that i brought from itunes and they worked fine. i left my ipod for a couple of days and it took a while to load which is usual and the apple symbol came up etc. the problem came after this having not turned it on when i do those new songs just skip and don't play. whichever way i try it, playing them in a playlist or straight from the album section or just as one song they do not play. i have rebooted my ipod and have the most recent version of itunes. the only way i can get these songs to play is by reconnecting the ipod to my computer which becomes a hassle if i have to do it every time i have left it. once i have done this they play fine until i leave it again and miss a day of not turning it on.
any help would be much appreciated but i am beginning to think that it is past all help.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. The hotness is symptom of a hardware problem

  • USB 2.0- Nano recognised as a iPod 20/40GB Click wheel model

Whenever I connect my iPod Nano into my ALi M5273 USB 2.0 PCI card, iTunes recognises my Nano as an old iPod (iPod 20/40GB Click Wheel model, with the black/white screen). The ipod icon under 'Sources' that appears on the left of iTunes appears as this model instead of a black ipod nano icon.
Sometimes the usb 2.0 card fails to connect altogether. Can anyone help me fix this problem? Or should i just buy a new USB 2.0 card?
    Specs:
    Windows XP Professional SP2
ALi M5273 USB 2.0 PCI Card
    iPod Nano

Strange... i've tried both versions. Version 4.9 that came on the disc and version 5.0. But both versions of itunes still seem to have the same problem- with USB 2.0.
Is it strange for my USB 2.0 card to have 4 USB controllers?: 1x'Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller', and 4x'ALi PCI to USB Open Host Controller'? All in all, it's added 4 USB Root Hubs, one with 6 usb ports, and 3 all with 2 usb ports each. Is that correct? (My ALi USB 2.0 card only has 5 usb ports but my pc has added 12).
P.s: There is another USB host controller which is not accounted for, as this is used to control the USB 1.1 ports on my motherboard. The controllers and USB Hubs listed have all been added by my ALi USB 2.0 PCI Card.

  • When I click on video it is stuck on one tv show, when I click 'done' the screen goes black so I can't access any other video that I downloaded from iTunes onto my iPad 2. How do I troubleshoot?

The video on my iPad 2 is frozen on a tv show, although it will play the tv show until the end. At the end, when I click 'done' the screen goes black so I can't see the other movies that I've downloaded. I've shut down a few times but it reverts to the same thing. How can I re-set the video feature or do what is necessary to get it working again?

Have you tried resetting the iPad:
Reset iPad:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • 30G Video pod's click wheel problems

I have a 30G video pod. The click wheel doesn't work. In fact it seems to be frozen/locked up. I have tried the hold button fix and I have restored this ipod. After the restore, it is now locked on the Language screen. I can't select anything to move past this. It then shuts itself off due to inactivity. I can see and play the songs on there if I connect it to my computer so I know everything inside is working.... just not the click wheel.
    Any suggestions?

    have you tried a restore?
    I would start there

  • Ipod Video 80gb with click wheel has sound, but no audio

My ipod video 80gb with click wheel has sound, but no audio.  I can hear the clicking of the wheel and selections made through the headphones, but I cannot get music, video, etc. to play audio.  I did the 5 R's and installed a new headphone jack prior to posting here.  I am all out of ideas and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you connect it to an iPod Dock Stereo to check if there is music, coming out, if not the Hard Reset would solve your problem or else the Audio chip has called it a day.
I know you mentioned doing the 5Rs, but did you see the Apple Logo and the language prompt? Sorry, most of the users here, doesn't do the Hard Reset correctly.
Try the iPod Hard Reset -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON, then release the button
    Select your preferred language.
This wont delete or erase any song/data on your iPod Classic.
See this Apple Support Article on 5Rs

    Good Luck!

  • IPod video click wheel jerky

I have 10k pictures on my ipod and 9k songs. When I scroll the wheel it seems jerky and not fluid like my old iPod. Any ideas? Thanks, T

I have had 4 ipods and found definite differences b/t them concerning the ease of the click wheel. 1 really bad one, 1 ok, 2 very good. Ig it is returnable, and worth it to you, you might try another one.

  • Ipod click wheel broken? Help please.

I've had this Ipod for years, it sort of stopped working one day I don't remember exactly how/why but I just recently found it again and plugged into my sisters Ipod Dock to see if it would work, and it did charge up and would play songs. So I guess there is nothing wrong with it's hardware or software, but the click wheel does absolutely nothing. I can't adjust volume, switch songs, turn it on, turn it off, etc. and right now it's just playing songs in order they are on there as I took it off the Dock. Is there anything I can try to do to fix it? Thanks.
(I am fairly sure its 5th generation, it's black with video and 30GB).

I have tried to connect the iPod to my computer, but the iPod will not connect to the computer and is still restarting constantly.

  • IPod 40 gb click wheel completely dead!

I bought an iPod (40gb click wheel) in September 2004 for the grand sum of £299 – so it isn’t even 2 years old! It has totally died. Firstly in June it refused to be identified by my Dell computer; then it corrupted a part of the software in my computer which identifies my DVD/CD drive. I had that fixed by Dell – thank goodness it didn’t do any further damage! As a result of not being recognised by my computer I was unable to add additional tunes to it. The iPod was still working but then started to make lots of noises. It then stopped working altogether and produced the folder with!. I phoned the support line in early July and was told that there are several articles on the web site which could help – I followed the recommendations and it still continued to try to re-boot itself. I was also told that getting it fixed would cost me £166 as the one year warranty had run out !!!! (Surely it should last longer than that – also I can buy something new which is more reliable for less than that!) The last stage was the final appearance of the apple logo, a black screen and now it is completely dead. It refuses to charge up with the battery and I’m absolutely livid. It doesn’t warrant being fixed. I hearby plan to return this lump of rubbish to Apple as I was on the verge of throwing it away but didn’t want to pollute the environment with whatever nasties lie within.

I've got the same problem mate. The clickwheel started to ge dead in places like around skip forward track area, (which was annoying to say the least.) But the other day it completely died, now it tries to start up showing the apple logo, then you can hear inside the hardrive spin up then a loud click then it tries this again about 5 times before showing the support website.
Ive probably had the ipod for about 2 years.
Annyoing since its a 40gb ipod and i've barely filled up 13gb. I might take it into see what the shop says but i sort of know its gonna be not worth repairing. Plus the video ipods are looking really good.

  • IPOD Clasic (20 gig) B/W screen, Click Wheel won't connect to ITUNES

Hey, anyone have this problem or any ideas on how to fix it.
I have the classic, white, 20 gig IPOD with the black & White screen and click wheel. It does everything fine, except connect to ITUNES. It has all the music previously loaded, it charges from the USB and the wall and it plays the music.
When I connect it to ITUNES, it makes a weird clicking noise as it tries to boot up. This happenes over and over like it's trying to connect with ITUNES, but just can't. I have tried to fix this by resetting it and switching the hold button on and off. It is able to reset, but still doesn't connect to ITUNES. I can't restore it b/c it doesn't show up in ITUNES. When I disconnect it from the computer, a message comes up sayin it may be corrupted. I have windows XP and the most current version of ITUNES. I also have a black IPOD video (30 gig) which works fine with ITUNES, so I don't think there's a software problem.
    Any ideas??

I advise you to buy in canada:) because you can do it myself delivered Canadian I find better;)

I recently purchased a 30GB iPod Video and I am wondering which hard shell case is best? I only use my iPod for casual use (carrying around) NOT for the gym, sports, water or things like that. I just want to ensure the best protection for the color screen.

ok get a belkin hardcase it is the best it has a veryhard screen and a thing for the click wheel ive had it for 7 months and there is only minor scratches when i took the ipod out the case can take a beating but when the ipod get taken out poof it looks like new!i mean i dropped it on concrete had a baby throw it into a table and its fine heres a link to show you at radioshack where i got mine from they come in alot of colors too if u want pics to show how mine looks ask

  • 5G click wheel MIDDLE BUTTON STUCK!!!

WOW. i mean i just got my new 60GB black video ipod from the store.
i played with it a bit after transfering all my data onto it.
then the middle button got stuck inside!
its surrounded by the click wheel, and its sunken in.
i have tried to push it back up anyway i could find, but using needles is hard. and it's screwing my brand new ipod, which looks bad right now.
i am too **** far to go back to the store now... [really far!]
never heard of this problem... any ideas ???

Actually you are not the first. The same thing happened to my 4th generation 20gig. About 7 months after I got it. The middle button still worked but was stuck down. It caused some stange behaviors when I would navigate the iPod and when I finally got tired of dealing with it I took it to the Apple Store and they replaced it on the spot. As long as it's still covered don't mess with it, just bring it back.

  • Clicker wheel not working?

the clicker wheel is not working on my ipod mini which is only about 4months old. any suggestions why or how to fix it?

Do you have a 1st gen Nano? I have the exact, and I mean exact, same problem with my old 1st Gen iPod Nano. That's part of the reason why I got the new 2nd Gen one. I'm really not sure why it does that. It runs all my patience out trying to work the stupid thing. Now that I have my new 2nd Gen, I just use my old one to back-up my music and let it sit on my shelf to gather dust.

  • Dead iPod, broken click wheel

I have a 30gb 4th gen iPod photo. The click wheel does not work at all, although the hold will toggle. The screen will only turn on while it is on the power adapter. It will also show up and mount. As soon as the power is unplugged the iPod dies as if there is no battery at all installed. I have tried everything. Resetting is not possible b/c the click wheel doesn't work. I have restored it a couple of times, and mounted and erased the volume via OS X's disk utility.
Thinking it could be the battery and wheel ribbons disconected, I dissected the iPod. The owner stepped in and cracked the screen. dooh! So, what could be the problem? Doesn't seem software, having reset it.
Is this iPod destined to be a USB external hard drive?
    Thanks!!

I have almost the same problem, mine seems a little less serious. I plug my Ipod in and my computer recognizes it's there, I toggle the hold switch and it recognizes that, but the wheel doesn't work.
It was just completely turned off, and I toggled the hold switch, and all it did was bring up the black background and the apple symbol appeared, then it went on like it normally would, but the wheel doesn't work. I know that usually it wont turn onto the black background first, so somethings wrong, I just have no idea what it is.
