Client Side Date Validation

I want to do a client side validation of a date field. Date which is coming from a calendar should not be greater than the system date.and shows a alert message at the time of form submit.

You will need to write a custom JSF converter to achieve this, see this link for more info:

  • Client Side Javascript Validation not Working in Struts 1.x version

    hi,
    I'm following the steps provioded in the below link for Javascript Client side validation but still it is not working.I'm struggling to get this work.
    [http://www.visualbuilder.com/jsp/struts/tutorial2/pageorder/9/|http://www.visualbuilder.com/jsp/struts/tutorial2/pageorder/9/]
    "The framework automatically generates the browser specific JavaScript and validate the data only at the client side."From the above statement i undertstand that framework itself generates the javascript function for validating the field mentioned in validations.xml file so that we dont have to explicitly write a javascript function for
    validating the fields
    (or)
    Do we need to call an explicit function
    Please need help on this.
    I have followed all the steps mentioned on the above link but Client Side Javascript Validation not Working in Struts 1.x version....

  • Good name (or maybe a pattern) for a client-side data accessor

    Hello,
    I am building a client/server app, the client is a Swing application.
    The client needs to read/write information to the server. I have a set of "DAO" classes that encapsulate remote acces:
    package myapp.client;
    public class OrderDAO {
        public OrderDTO getDaylyOrders();
        public void saveOrder(OrderDTO order);
    }The implementing class connects to an RMI server which exposes an OrderService interface with more technical methods (getOrdersForDate(Date), getPendingOrders(),...).
    I just feel the name DAO is misleading on the client side, because traditionnally it is a server-side pattern, and indeed in the myapp.server package, I have a set of classes named OrderDAO as well, which do what I think is the usual work of DAOs (mask the usage of the DB to the server logic).
    I'm wondering whether my client-side "DAO" actually follows the intent of the DAO pattern. Otherwise what is it, or how should it be named?
    Isn't it a BusinessDelegate instead, as it encapsulates the usage of the OrderService?
    Note that it is not just a Proxy to the server-side DAO class, because there is a bit of sever-side business logic (filtering and aggregation by the OrderService) between what the server side DAO returns (essentially Lists of entities mapped from the database tables) and what the client-side "DAO" returns.

    It has been a while for me, but when I designed
    applications I favored using some part of a design
    patttern name for the main class of the pattern. For
    Business Delegate objects, using the "Delegate" part
    is helpful if there will ever be other software
    develoeprs working with the code. Even if not, it
    will help you remember the design when/if you return
    to it in a few years or so.I see where you are coming from here but I think that this doesn't really hold up under scrutiny and from my paast experience. First of all, it's not feasible to rely the design with class names. You'll end up with something similar to Hungarian notation if you try. This means that you must have external design documents. It's tempting to think that classnames and JavaDocs will be enough but they aren't. They are necessary but not sufficient.
    When I talk about the 'users of the class' I'm talking about other developers. The 'users of the application' don't see the classes. My experience is that naming classes or anything else with notes about it's internal implementation seems like it would be helpful but is of limited usefulness to maintenance developers. For most work the developer is only going to care what the class does (e.g. retreieve business objects) not how it does it. If the developer need to know that, they can easily open the class documentation and even the source (assuming that's available.
    If you do end up doing this, you also need to think about what will happen if you change the design under the hood of the class. Do you change the name of the class? You really should, if it's name is based on the design. What I've seen happen too often is that it does not happen and the class is named as it if does one thing but acutally does something else entirely.
    OrderServiceDelegate would be an informative
    name because it would imply that the actual code for
    implementing the "order service" is in another class
    and that this class is for "delegating" only.That's easily determined by looking at the class documentation and like I said above, doesn't usually matter to other classes using it. That's one of the main tenets of OO design. Separation of concerns. The classes that use this shouldn't need to know how it does it's job (althought, this is not always feasible IMO.) If the classes depend on a BusinessDelegate, then what do you do if you move the class to an environment where they use the Facade directly, for example. You are in effect coupling related classes to a pattern. If I have a FooRetriever, I might want one that's a business delegate, one that's a DAO and one that is a stub. The idea of coupling an interface to a pattern is strange to me.
    For implementations of the Abstract Factory pattern,
    I typically would include the term "Factory" in the
    class name. Same goes for Facade and Proxy. Factory classes are the most likely misnamed. Often implementations of factories (I know that's not a GoF pattern) or abstract factories are named FooBarSingleton. So, if anything, don't name Singleton classes with the word Singleton.

  • Client-side form validation fails

    Hi guys,
    Below is a very simple form with some client side validation.
    on submission it takes me to the results page with out popping an
    error. I checked it in both IE and Firefox. I checked the source
    after displaying the page and there are javascript elements built.
    I am testing this on my local box, with coldfusion mx 7 on
    apache.
    Is there anything special I have to do with the server
    settings, or browser settings or there something else.
    Thanks,
    Frank

    Odd, indeed. The validation Javascript works on my PC,
    showing an alert. I only replaced your query with mine. There might
    be something wrong with your installation of the Coldfusion system

  • Client-side transient model for storing temporary data

    We've been using the ODataModel in our UI5 application for retrieving data from Gateway and now we have a requirement to store temporary (session based) client-side data.  Ideally it would be stored in such a way that it can be shared across views and controllers and can be bound from UI components via property bindings.  The data in most cases will be OData entities.  As an example a user would view a list of PO's (from the ODataModel) in the first view, then select a subset of POs and move onto the next view to "work" on those POs.  We'd want to store this subset of POs in a client model so the second view can bind to the model and display them.
    My first thought is to create another model separate from our ODataModel in which we could add transient client-side data (OData entities and custom data) and make it available to all views and controllers in the app.  I realize we could probably also just store such data in global JS variables, however a client-side model seems like a cleaner approach to me.
    I'd appreciate any suggestions on how this can be achieved.

    Hi Derek,
    why don't you just use sap.ui.core.Core.setModel? You can store multiple models and access them in your entire SAPUI5 app.
    Except for SAPUI5-apps, these requirements are often realized with HTML5 Web Storage JavaScript API. As you can see in the following blog post, you can easily store even complex entities and access your items in the entire web-application: Client-side Session Management.
    I can't recommend the approach with global variables. A lot of developers had negative experiences with this design pattern. At least, use namespacing techniques to store your functions and variables in one central scope. I've written a simple example on jsFiddle to show you this. As you can see, you could also handle your transient model as an additional variable of your own namespace.

  • Date Validation in a Collection Model

    HI,
    My requirement is - I have a collection model which has 3 attributes- no, userName, number of Days and the Date passed as a payload from the process.
    Initially WHen i view my page, the table data shows:
    No UserName No.Of Days Date
    1 UserA
    2 User B
    Now, When the User is entering Data to the date fields, a validation is required as in the user can enter either No.Of Days or the Date input. AND in row 1 ,if the user enters Date as 21/03/2013, then in row 2 the date should be greater than the row 1 Date.
    Kindly let me know how to implement this ASAP.
    Regards,
    Remya

    Hi,
    depends on where the data is coming from. You can use
    - ValueChange listener
    - validator on the client side
    - Entity validation on the server side (assuming you use ADF BC)

  • Validating data in client side

    Hi,
    I'm developing a web application using Struts framework.
    and my questions is, does the validate method int the ActionForm replaces the using javascript validation?
    If I can do all the validations in this validate method, so does that mean that i'm not going to use JS at all?

    Client side validation is usually a subset of the validation done on the server side (ie, server side duplicates the client side validation, and then some).
    I usually only do some basic client side validation such as:
    a textfield is null, but shouldn't be
    a textfield should be in this format but isn't: mm/dd/yyyy
    a textfield should be a number but contains a letter.
    If these conditions occur, dont submit the form, pop up a warning dialog box instead.

  • STRUTS: client-side validation in jsp using  DynaValidatorForm

    I am supposed to work on struts on as project and it is like learning a crash course and work the next day.
    In Struts 1.1 enviroment, I am using DynaValidatorForm to create a bean form and then perform validation.
    1. I write a DynaValidatorForm definition in struts-config.xml
    2. I write xml for action so that when /getQuotes.do in invoked by a jsp form, the form data is put into the QuoteDetailsBean.
    3. add the plugin script for ValidatorPlugIn
    xml fragment from struts-config:
    //form bean
    <form-beans>
    <form-bean name="QuoteDetailsBean" type="org.apache.struts.validator.DynaValidatorForm">
        <form-property name="forename" type="java.lang.String"/>
       <form-property name="surname" type="java.lang.String"/>
    <form-bean>
    </form-beans>
    <action
            path="/getQuotes"
            type="com.kainos.quickquotes.struts.QQGetQuotesAction"
            validate="true"
            name="QuoteDetailsBean"
            input="/userform1.do"
            parameter="save"
            scope="session">
            <forward name="success" path="/pages/jsp/result.jsp"/>
            <forward name="back" path="/userform1.do"/>
    </action>
    <plug-in className="org.apache.struts.validator.ValidatorPlugIn">
         <set-property
             property="pathnames"
             value="/WEB-INF/validator-rules.xml,/WEB-INF/validation.xml"/>
      </plug-in>Now I write a validation code for getQuotes.do. note that I can write the validation code with
    <form name="QuoteDetailsBean"> but this form bean is shared by many jsp, so i am using the name of the action
    (getQuotes) as the name of the form in the validation.xml.
    So far this looks okay, as I am going by some example.
    xml fragment from validation.xml:
    <formset>
              <form name="/getQuotes">
                 <field property="forename" depends="required,minlength">
                    <arg0 key="QuoteDetailsBean.forename" />
                    <arg1 name="minlength" key="${var:minlength}" resource="false"/>
                    <var>
                       <var-name>minlength</var-name>
                       <var-value>2</var-value>
                    </var>
                 </field>
                 <field property="surname" depends="required,minlength">
                <arg0 key="QuoteDetailsBean.surname" />
                <arg1 name="minlength" key="${var:minlength}" resource="false"/>
                <var>
                   <var-name>minlength</var-name>
                   <var-value>2</var-value>
                </var>
                 </field>
    </formset>Now I write the JSP. I use the <html:javascript> tag to allow front-end validation based on the xml in validation.xml.
    The jsp code:
    <%@ taglib uri="/tags/struts-bean" prefix="bean" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="/tags/struts-html" prefix="html" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="/tags/struts-logic" prefix="logic" %>
    <html:html locale="true">
    <head>
    <title><bean:message key="welcome.title"/></title>
    <html:base/>
    <html:javascript formName="/getQuotes"
                method="validateForm"
                dynamicJavascript="true"
                staticJavascript="false"
                cdata="false" />
    </head>
    <body bgcolor="#FFCC9F">
    <html:errors />
    <html:form action="getQuotes.do" onsubmit="return validateForm(this);" >
    Forename:</td> <td><html:text property="forename"/></td></tr>
    <tr> <td>Surname:</td> <td><html:text property="surname"/></td></tr>
    <html:submit value="Quotes" /></td></tr>
    </html:form>
    </body>
    </html:html>Does this looks okay. I wrote so far based on some tutorials n help online.
    Now when I open the JSP and then do a submit, there is no validation (I tried by submitting with empty forename and surname. I mean i could invoke the action class and the invoke class
    redirects(forwards) to the appropriate path. so the code works fine except validation is not done
    Q1. So what should i do more to get client-side validation?
    What actually happens in client-side validation? does a pop up alert appears?
    nothing happens so far in my case.
    Q2. What should I do more for server side validation. Since the form is incomplete, what happens?
    I thought the same form returns and the error messages are printed in the jsp page since i have the <html:errors />
    tag just below the <body> tag.
    The action class is pretty simple so far:
    public class QQGetQuotesAction extends Action {
        public QQGetQuotesAction(){
    public ActionForward execute(ActionMapping mapping,
                 ActionForm form,
                 HttpServletRequest request,
                 HttpServletResponse response)
        throws Exception {
            DynaValidatorForm dynaform = (DynaValidatorForm)form;
            System.out.println("forename:"+dynaform.get("forename");
            System.out.println("surname:"+dynaform.get("surname");
            return forward=mapping.findForward("back");
    }Please help me out. I think I am missing something which i need to do
    thanks
    Tanveer

    I think the validations are to be declared on the form
    name and not the action path.
    Your formName is QuoteDetailsBean but your are using
    the action path(/getQuotes) both in the validation
    rules and the jsp tags. Use the formName on both the
    places.
    Also your html:javascript tag will not generate the
    static javascript to validate the fields. For this you
    will have to add code like below.
    <html:javascript dynamicJavascript="false"
    staticJavascript="true"/>
    Other options is to set the attribute
    staticJavascript="true" in your html:javascript tag.
    Hope it helps.hi
    staticJavascript="true" did the trick. :)
    I think the validations are to be declared on the form name and not the action path.It is not necessary. You can declare the validation on the action class. This is essential if a form bean is shared by several JSPs having its own action class. This is as per as I read in a tutorial and it works.

  • Struts client side validation....

    Hello all,
    I am using struts client and server validation but only the server validation works. I tired looking around the forum but wouldnt find any similar problem.
    I am getting value from the previous action class and i am able to successfully retrieve and display the value. I inserted the value in a object and pass over to my jsp. When i try inserting the validation, the server side works fine but i get nth on the client side. I viewed the source code of my jsp and the JAVASCRIPT is successfully inserted but no pop up when i leave the fill blank. Please advise mi..

  • ADF validator or JavaScript for client side validation ?

    using JDev and ADF 11g
    Problem description : To apply validations such as date range check, pattern matching, maxlength etc.. on ADF Faces Components.
    Solution 1: Use ADF validator such as Reg Expr validator, Max Length validator
    Souliton 2: Write Javascript code for validating the component's value at cleint side.
    When using ADF Validator for such type of validation checking, a request is send to the server for processing (additional overhead) . However we can do such validations with javaScript functions without the need to interact with the server. So, what benefit does ADF Validator serves when one needs to implement such validations ?

    H,
    afaik, client side validation in ADF Faces suppresses server round trips if a validation error is detected on the client. Only if no problem is found, the server side validation is challenged upon submit (so no extra round trip for validation). Shay is absolutely correct. JavaScript is a convenience but never a solution.
    Here's how to create a custom validator with a client and server side implementation : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/web.1111/b31973/af_validate.htm#BABEIIDD

  • UIX - unable to turn off client and server side field validation

    Hello,
    I've scoured the forums for info on how to turn off client / server side field validation, for the very common case of a Cancel button. Here's the use case:
    User enters a page displaying records of some kind that can be edited, or an option to create a new one. User clicks create, is taken to a new data entry form. Before entering any data, the user decides he isn't interested, and clicks the cancel button.
    The problem I'm having is that I'm getting messages that required fields have no values. I have found several references on this forum that setting the submitButton attribute unvalidated="true" will turn off client side validation. Here's what my submitButton looks like:
    <submitButton text="Cancel" event="success" unvalidated="true"/>
    But I am still getting errors, such as:
    JBO-27014: Attribute ListName in DealerListAppModule.WebDlrListsView1 is required
    Now I have also seen references in the forums to turning off server side validation by overriding the validatModelUpdates method in the DataAction. I have done this too. No luck.
    Any ideas why this isn't working? I have seen other posts in the forums stating that there were improvements in JDev 10.1.2 that caused a create but not insert, where you could just navigate away from the page you were on, without having to worry about rolling back the create of a new record. I am also not seeing this behavior either. I am using 10.1.2, completely updated, but when I execute a create, if I navigate back from the create page to the original one without saving (i had to fool with this to get it to work because of the validation problems above), I am still seeing the blank, created record in my rowset. I originally created my project in 9.0.5.2, but am now using 10.1.2, and having migrated the project.
    So what's the deal? What's the definitive way to turn off both client side and server side validation, and what's the status of this create but not insert functionality?
    Brad

    Haven't worked with this but possibly this method of "deactivation" is not valid in 11gR2? Have you cross checked that with Oracle support?

  • Client side validation in J2SE (Desktop applications)

    Hi,
    I am new to J2SE(desktop applications). I created a GUI screen with the help of Swing. I would like to add some client-side validation to my GUI e.g Required field validator, regular expression validator etc. Can you please provide me with some sample code?
    Regards,
    ap.

    For required fields, just don't allow the user to continue unless getText() on the field returns appropriate data.
