Client strategy

We're starting a new sap implementation and I'm suggesting that we use as part of our client strategy the same client number across the landscape. Like -
CRM Dev = client 100
                   client 110
                   client 120
                   etc....
CRM QAS =client 100
                   client 110
                   client 120
                   etc....
CRM PROD =client 100
This is primarily for ease of system copies from prod to qas.
Does anyone see any drawbacks to this approach?
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Daniel,
Absolutely no problem in maintaining the same client numbers for your DEV, QUA & PRD servers of specific SAP solution.
But, it will be good if you maintain different numbers. since, it will avoid confusion and communication will be very clear.
i.e.. for example, in Development server you can give -- 100, 110, 120
for Quality server -- 200, 210, 220
for Production server -- 300, 310, 300
Note: the above numbers is just an example.
Kind regards,

  • Client strategy for DEV system in an implementation proj

    Hi,
    Can some one advise a good client strategy for an impl project? here's and example and questions i have. if you have a better strategy, pls advise. We want to follow this on ECC 6 DEV system -
    10 - Sandbox (play around before doing config - no transports)
    20 - Golden client (do real config here, and do development here - transports will start from here)
    30 - Test client (for SCC1 testing)
    I am assuming I should do DEVELOPMENT in the same golden client - does that make sense? Else, which should i have a new client? in that case, how will transports move?
    Thanks for all your help

    Hello Jerryp,
    Our customer has similar setup:
    100 - Sandpit
    200 - Dev and Cust
    300 - Testing
    400 - Sandpit 2
    Whenever we need to do any unit tests in client 300, we copy over customizing by using SCC1 transaction (client copy via transport request).
    For example whatever development (code or customizing) we do in 200 is copied over to 300 by SCC1. This ensures the client dependent customizing is in sync with client 300 without destroying data.
    Also, periodically we refresh client 100 and 400 and with data and customizing from 300. No development client independent changes are possible in the sandpit and testing clients.

  • Client Strategy questions with BPS in mind

    We are implementing BW and BPS.
    The system landscape in my project has been planned to have different client numbers and different logical systems for each environment for BW and Source Systems (Dev, Quality and Production).
    With BPS I am foreseeing issues when transporting the retraction structures, once they carry the client number (transaction UPB_STRUCT)
    I could not find a conversion table for this case (like we have for BW - RSLOGSYSMAP).
    And in this case (transaction UPB_STRUCT) the objects will carry the client number + planning area name (/1SEM/_YS_CHAS_400ZEXP0001).
    1. So I conclude that the client number HAS to be the same in all BW environments (Dev, Quality and Production). Could you confirm this?
    There are configurations for public sector retraction, where the logical system name is used to map the queries into the Funds Management BCS fields. (SPRO -> Define field assignments for plan data transfer from BW)
    2. Given this configuration mentioned, is it REQUIRED to have the same logical system name in all BW environments?
    I’ve seen a presentation from SAP (SAP BW System Landscape Strategies / Mayer) with certain recommendations like the ones found in the OSS note 184447:
         You thus should have the following over all system landscape
    BD(BW1CLNT100)->BC(BW1CLNT100)-> BP(BW1CLNT100)
       ||                  ||                  ||
       ||                  ||                  ||
    OD(QS1CLNT300)->OC(QS1CLNT300)-> OP(QS1CLNT300)
    That presentation also mentioned that’s possible to have multiple Logical System names for BW in multiple environments.
    Please give me your thoughts having in mind BW-BPS as part of the implementation:
    3.     Should we have SAME Client number and SAME Logical system name in all environments for BW?
    4.     I don’t see any impact for source system perspective with logical names, do you?
    5.     If you tell me that BW can handle different Logical System names, could you tell me where to configure to have BPS objects and retraction query mappings pointing to the right logical systems and client numbers the transport process (equivalent to what RSLOGSYSMAP does for source systems).
    Thanks

    Hello Alex,
    I strongly recommend to have identical client numbers in your landscape (especially if you still have the choice). BW handles only one client anyway and there is no benefit of having different client numbers.
    One client number will take care of BPS issues and you can hardcode structures and ABAP to the client number. Trust me it will make your life easier down the road.
    BPS itself does not depend on the logical system name. If there are connecting applications, they have to take care of the mapping like BW does. But this depends on the application.

  • Multi Client Strategy

    I nned to set up a portal, which is used by multiple client, where users can have the same name.
    Something like "Miller" at CorpA and "Miller" at CorpB.
    They also have different role/group assignements and are diffent legal entities.
    On the logon screen, they need to enter their user id and their Organisation as distinction.
    What will be the best strategy? I was thinking of something like a login screen with three fiels (User, Org, pw) and connect via Javascript userid and Org, which will  make  the "Unique user name"  in the UME.
    Any other tips from other installations?

    Hi,
    I dont think that Portal UME Database can do this. You may have to use LDAP integrated User Management in order to do this. You can integrate Portal UME with a supported LDAP. For example, MS Active Directory, Novell eDirectory, SUNs LDAP. IF you are currently using one of them, you can easily integrate it with portal.

  • Client strategy for SAP Discovery system

    Hello,
    We have installed SAP Discovery system and would prefer to create custom clients copied from the standard clients for use by the users. Please let me know if there are any restrictions or possible problems creating custom clients in SAP Discovery system.
    Thank you,
    Vijaya

    Hi,
    There are no restrictions for creating custom clients on the Discovery System box.
    It is highly recommended to backup your current server before customizing the box so you can return to the original state if needed.

  • XI Client Strategy

    I need to understand the benefits in creating an additional XI client?  For example, in my XI Development instance I currently have a single client 100.  If I create an additional client instance, say 200, what are the benefits to doing so?  Will doing this allow me to separate XI design and configuration "new development" (in client 200) from existing "production support" (in client 100)?

    Hi,
    >>>>Will doing this allow me to separate XI design and configuration "new development" (in client 200) from existing "production support" (in client 100)?
    no you won't have another designe on the new client
    - but you'll be able to invoke proxies (ABAP)
    from the new clinet for example

  • Multiple clients on one instance of SAP SolMan

    Hello,
    I have doubt about the conductibility of SAP Solution Manager to support more than one client, as an example, ones for Development and the other for production. I think that the limitation is due to the Java side which does not allow to perform more than one client.
    Up to know, I have browsed SAP Solution documents and have not found any indication about this kind of restriction, more than 1 client per instance of SAP SolMan.
    Look forward in hearing from your insight comments.

  • 640 SID With BW Layer - Multiple Clients?

    My company installed SRM (SRM_SERVER 500 SP #7) with the BW layer (BW 350 SP # 14) does it make sense to have a multiple client strategy in the non-productive SRM SIDs?  Does anyone have any SAP white papers on client strategy on the new dimension products (BW, CRM, SCM/APO, EP, etc.)?  Since I am not a BW developer I am uncertain as to why in BW it only makes sense to have 1 client which I would guess if a new dimension SID has the BW layer active then it would make sense to only have 1 client as well?  Any information would be most appreciated.

    Hi Ken,
    SAP NetWeaver BI cannot use multiple client because the objects it creates and uses are client independent. In fact only SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP (usage type AS ABAP) based system offer the potential of a multi- client solution. AS JAVA based applications do hot have a client concept, they tend to have multiple instances (i.e. one per client).
    I'm having a little difficulty understanding one part of your question ".. would guess if a new dimension SID has the BW layer active then it would make sense to only have 1 client as well?...". Can you elaborate on the question?
    Are you asking, if the SAP NetWeaver capability one has one client, does it make sense to have only one client in the ABAP based application too?
    Cheers,
    Mike.

  • Some questions about clients

    Hi All,
    we are defining the clients strategy for our ECC Landscape. For the development system, in your opinion, which are the potential problems/criticalities to have a client (100) for the customizing activities and another client (200) for the unit test & workbench activities/developments? One problem is the fact that also the client 200 must be open "Changes to Repository and cross-client customizing allowed", so also in the client 200 (and not only in the client 100 as we want) "customizing CR" can be created.
    Best regards
    Bob

    Hi Bob,
    As per to the Clients concept whatever Clients u created will depends on the size of storage capacity ya.
    Basic thumb rule is Client has 3 divisions ya
    First one is Client dependent data
    Second one is Client Independent data (or) cross client data
    Third is Repository data
    When u r creating a client in scc4 u after filling up all the necessary fields and finally u have to deside whether the type of client ya.
    Here according to the type u have to set up the security levels i.e. Restricted(access) levels ya.
    According to u 100 client is for customizing and set the levels to all allowed. Where as with 200 client set it to restricted ya.
    U can move TR's with SCC1 ya.
    Please let me know if u r not satisfied with my answer so that I will try to brief u more elobrtelly ok.

  • Client strategies - Clean client?

    Hello
    Hope this is the right forum....
    I am looking for information on various client strategies, such things as the pros and cons of each strategy.  Things like the Development box having a Config. client and a development client, clean clients etc...  and transporting to QA and Production.
    I have searched for white papers but haven't had much luck.
    Thanks in advance
    Peter

    Hi Lisa,
    Generally customers will have a client strategy that suits their individual needs.  You can have a config client for entering your config (no business data).  Then you have your data and integrated client.  Then sometimes customers have a sandpit client for playing in.  Then usually in a QA and Production they usually only have 1 client.
    Up to you really.
    Cheers

  • Multiple Cameras with one Instance of FME

    Hello,
    I am using FME 3.0 for upstreaming to Justin.tv and I am very satisfied, and it works perfectly.
    Now I'd like to add effects, like Captions to my Stream and switch between different cameras. I have tried ManyCam which provides me a virtual webcam which I can easily add as Source to FME, but if I switch sources in ManyCam it needs several seconds to start the inactive camera and shows a black screen until the chosen camera is active.
    Additionally I'd like to use effects when switching from one camera to another like fading in, or gemoetrical effects, like door opening etc.
    The main problem is that I cannot see the live pictrure of an inactive camera in ManyCam,
    What I am asking you for is to recommend me software which provides multiple camera feeds to combine/switch live to a virtual webcam.
    I know that wirecast supports all this, inclusive the upstream to my server, however I'd like to stick to FME and I cannot afford wirecast. My budget would be less than US$200.
    Anything you can recommend?
    Thank You
    Wolfgang

  • Process of moving TR from Quality to Production

    Dear Experts,
    we are in a process of moving TR from Quality to Production. While moving we faced transport incositencies like some old requests have been overwritten into the new one and dependant objects were failed during import in PRD. Now production rehearsal client is kind of messed up. what is the right procedure to transport the requests from Quality to Production. (actually we transferred the TR individually based on the list send by the respectivr module owners). Please help me to findout the solution for this issue.
    regards,
    Yasin.

    Hi,
    This situation comes every now & then when you don't have any client strategy define in your landscape I'm not blaming you but for your Project Manager and then rest of the team adopt SAP standard practice if you really want things to go well act NOW..!! here is the basic to start:
    Ex,
    DEV ::
    100 => Golden Client
    200 => Customizing Client
    300 => Test Client
    Things to check before importing request in QAS :
    1) Always get the request in sequence format ask the owner of the request for the sequence to avoid dependency issues
    2) Technical Specification doc - this doc will be prepare by Functional / Developer on what changes are included in TR
    QAS::
    400 => Quality Client
    Things to check before importing request in PRD :
    1) User acceptance doc i.e UAT - client / customer will check the functionality if it's on then move this to PRD
    2) Get the request in sequence format
    3) Approval for production transport
    PRD::
    500 => Production Client
    Thanks,

  • ROS Email to vendor not created

    Hello experts,
    We are facing some issue while configuring ROS.
    We are using SRM 5.0. We are using two client strategy one for EBP and another for SUS. We are configuring ROS on the SUS client.
    We are able to launch the self registration link and the vendors are able to submit their registration. These vendors are available in the purchase admin (on SUS client itself) in the preselect vendor transation.
    We are able to see the questionnaires selected (based the category selected by the vendor) in the tab Catagories and Questionnaires.
    When we select the questionnaire and click the send survery for selected categories message is displayed  "Sending questionnaires by e-mail has begun successfully"
    However no mail is triggeres. We cant see any mail generated in SOST (we have not configure the mail server yet).
    Please do let me know if I am missing any thing in config.
    Any tips and tricks are welcome.
    Thanks and best regards, Jith.

    Hello Experts,
    The problem got resolved.
    I had not maintained the mail id of the sender. So the application was not triggering the mail.
    Thanks for your inputs. Let us see the next level.

  • REAL TIME QUESTIONS- LANDSCAPE

    hi Friends,
    my doubt's are
    1. sandbox is a client in DEV server or seprate server??
    2.after golive how many clients are there in production serever?
    3. In real time can we transport objects from sand box to DEV or can we re do in DEV???
    4.what is the use of pre production server???
    5.In real time we copy clients from 000 or 001??
    if anybody answer these, very useful for us
    thanks

    Hi Manu,
    1. sandbox is a client in DEV server or seprate server??
    Sandbox is a seperate server . It may or maynot include in DEV Server.
    2.after golive how many clients are there in production serever?
    Most Probably only 1 client-for the live transactions of Business.
    3. In real time can we transport objects from sand box to DEV or can we re do in DEV???
    we wont do any config in Sandbox.So there is no Q'n of transportation. All Config will be done in DEV-Config Client & will be transported to Test client in DEV server,then moved to Qlty for further testing like UNIT & INTEGRATION, after that will be moved to Prdocution server.
    even its vary from project to project.
    some project Config directly moved from DEV to PRD.
    4.what is the use of pre production server???
    Generally its maintained to minimize/avoid the mistakes.
    5.In real time we copy clients from 000 or 001??
    Depends on client strategy client from production will be copied in quality client. So that while testing- real time data will be available.
    *hope it adds info

  • OIM Disaster Recovery Setup

    We are in the processing of completing setup of our production environment with OIM 9.1.0.2. Our setup is running on WAS 6.1 in a two node cluster. We run to an Oracle database. For DR we were planning to take a backup of the production database and restore it on the DR database. We would install OIM in WAS on a DR server as well, pointing to the newly restored database.
    Does anyone have any pointers on things to watch out for or configuration changes that may need to be done to allow this to work?
    Thanks for any assistance,
    Rich Shok

    What are the requirements/expectations out of DR? Do you need to replicate the same infra in terms of NFR's e.g. DR site has same performance and user capacity like production then you need to replicate the production infrastructure/architecture in DR data center. However DR strategy completely depends on Client strategy. In Ideal scenerio DR site is cold (i.e. only active in case of production failure) and has same capacity like production. But depending on the client you may want to propose the scale down version of production on DR site and you can also check if you can keep the DR site active also to increase the solution performance. All this need to think through in terms of criticality of the IAM functionality, cost of infrastructure, cost of licence and DR policy for the Client. Now a days every client prefer RAC database but few clients go with Non RAC databases also with storage/disk backup in DR site on every interval.
