Cloak (hide) URL links in PDF

Is there a way to cloak or hide the URL links within my PDF's? Or to prevent the MouseOver from displaying the URL link?
Basically, I have a URL link within a sample version of a PDF that takes a potential customer to a payment page to buy the full version of the PDF. I would rather the customer not see the URL itself to avoid confusion. For example, the customer is on the resellers site XYZ but the URL takes the customer through my site ABC (to capture the affiliate data) and then to the credit card payment page.

You can have a look at the reference files, but the basic command you need
to use is this (of course, you can replace the address to the one you want
to open):
app.launchURL("http://www.adobe.com/");
However, for this to work the user must have JS enabled and they will be
asked by Acrobat if to allow this website to open.

  • URL links on PDF's in intranet stop working

    Hi,
We are experiencing a weird issue with links in our intranet PDF's.
When we open the PDF's locally we can open all links, when we open them from our intranet website (I have set it to open in PDF reader rather than the browser) the url on the links have changed from a \\servername\share\file.pdf to \\c:\users\username\temp\file.pdf.
    any suggestions would be great.

    Hi there,
Just wanted to correct a possible misconception.
There is no PDFMaker ribbon available for the 64-bit version of Office 2010. However Acrobat is compatible with Office 2010 in that you can still create PDF files using Acrobat X by printing to the Adobe PDF printer.
To the original poster, could you upload a sample Word file?
    Thanks,
    David

  • Custom URL links in PDF don't work.

I have registered custom xyz: protocol handler in Windows.
Creating a hyperlink in MS Word and clicking it works OK – my handler app gets invoked.
Saving Word document as PDF used to work (somewhat – by passing URL to the default browser).
    Recently it stopped working altogether.
Questions: where should I look for recent changes? In registry? Some configuration / setting in Adobe Reader UI?
And most importantly – can I create a hyperlink  to my custom protocol that will NOT involve the default browser (as Chrome, for example, gets lost)?

    Here is what I do.
    1. Register txt: protocol with Windows to open Notepad.exe, with this txt.reg file:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\txt]
    @="URL:txt Protocol"
    "URL Protocol"=""
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\txt\shell]
    @="open"
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\txt\shell\open]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\txt\shell\open\command]
    @="\"C:\\Windows\\System32\\notepad.exe\" \"%1\""
    2. Create MS Word document with two hyperlinks:
    yahoo – linked to http://www.yahoo.com/
    txt – linked to txt://test
    3. “Save as…” this document as PDF, default options.
After that, open saved PDF in Adobe Reader, click on each link.
Clicking “yahoo” opens your default browser and navigates to yahoo.com.
Clicking “txt” has no visible effect.
Expected: open Notebook.exe and attempt to open specified file.
Note: that txt link works OK if clicked in the Word.
Also, the custom links used to work in the past in Adobe Reader as well.
I am looking for two things:
    1. What could I change in the process of saving PDF or in Adobe settings to make this work again?
    2. Is there a way to specify hyperlink in PDF to a custom protocol handler and NOT have it go through the default browser?
    Thank you,
    Vlad

  • Renaming URL links in PDF?

Can anyone let me know if there's a way of renaming the rollover displayed URL of a link put into a .PDF? The current displayed ones are long and messy, and my client would prefer them shortened to a simpler version.
    Many thanks

As the rollover "tooltip" displays the actual URL, make it shorter will result in a display of less length.
Perhaps use of a service that generates short URLs may be needed.
Or, reconfiguration of target files' location such that a shorter path is possible.

  • OBİEE 11.1.1.5 and 11.1.1.6 go URL link in pdf export

    Hi,
We have a problem; when we export our report to PDF the action links are corrupt.
    Example;
I created an Action Link that goes to http://www.google.com. In column properties - interaction tab - Column Heading - Primary interaction property = Action Link (Which is Navigate to a WebPage)
Then i export it to PDF and the link only goes to the Action's path in obiee.
When i search for solutions, i found out this was a bug. ( ID 1437268.1 )
Any of you recommend any other solution besides Data Format- Override Default Data Format - Column Text Format.
    Thanks...

Is this working for you? What errors do you get in the logs (bam, EL)?

  • Acrobat Pro 7.1 how to delete url link from pdf doc

I accidently selected the wrong text when I set up a link to a web page. Nothing I do will allow me to delete the linking capability. When I click on the link, it takes me to "no such address" message in browser.
When I search Arcobat help, it appears that the instructions are for a newer version of the software, because I don't get the same tools that it tells me to use.
I've used the Advanced Linking tool that supposedly allows to delete all links in document, but it doesn't work. Links still there.
Anyone know how to do what I need done?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I don't have Acrobat 7.1 handy but you could see if this helps...
Make sure the Editing toolbar is visible. Select the Link tool in the toolbar. Clicking on the link in the document should select it and let you edit or delete it.

  • I have URL links to PDFs in an excel spreadsheet, the document opens in Internet Explorer, even though Firefox is my Default browser

I have been through all of the default browser setups and I still Internet Explorer opens. I have an internet shortcut to an excel document on my desktop and Firefox opens just fine.
    Any ideas?

  • Links (urls) inside a pdf document are not enabled by the New firefox pdf preview feature but are in Chrome & IE

The new pdf preview feature in firefox desktop does NOT seem to activate any links (urls) inside the pdf meaning they are no longer clickable.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem.
I send out product information using pdf's with clickable links inside (as do lots of businesses) and this loss of clickable links functionality is a problem.
I also tried the same pdf files in IE and Chrome and their inline pdf previews keep all links fully working.
I know the pdf preview in firefox can be deactivated and the adobe reader can be used instead but in reality lots of people won't know how to do this or won't be troubled to find out how and will just move on.
Does anyone know if this feature is going to be fixed or supported or is it a deliberate security feature.
    Thanks.
    JP.

    Hey JPEdwards,
The PDF.js team is still hard at work on the built-in viewer. It looks like there is already a bug on file for this and they are aware of it:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=821599
Please don't post in the bug if you are just confirming that you've seen the problem too. That clutters the tickets ;)

  • Acrobat Pro 9 - URL link to open in browser in background (behind PDF)?

Hi!  I've been searching for days now... does anyone know if it's possible using Acrobat Pro 9 to force a URL link to open in the background, behind a PDF in order to keep the reader at the PDF instead of instantly switching to their web browser?
This is used for a capabilities presentation, where we would like the view to continue reading the PDF but if they click links, the links will load in their browser where they can review them after finishing the PDF - instead of instantly being taken to the browser.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Go the the Applications -> Utilities folder. In there you will find the Disk Utility app. When you run that application, you can select your hard drive. Then click on the Fix Permssions button.

  • Hide URL in PDF output in hyperlink , Maintain History within reports

    hi
i have some issues to discuss for report output in pdf format.
we are using java application to call reports via AS 10g, my issue are
    1) Hide URL in PDF output for hyperlink created.(Using username/password in Key is not enough)
    2) Maintain history as i call second report from my parent report then i want to go back to parent report.(Note here go.history or history.go(-1) work in HTML output format but not in PDF)
3)To Call Child PDF report in new window(here again working fine target="_blank" for HTML output but not for PDF)
    regards
    abid

    Hi Ram,
Not sure if this is possible.
However, one workaround might be the following:
    1. Write a javascript that submits the URL using, say a POST method, and does not show the parameters in the URL. You will have to write this javascript code in the "Before Report" Report Escape. For a generic example on how to use javascript in a report, see Metalink Note 125652.1. This note shows javascript to disable the right-click of the mouse on the report output.
    2. Use the Hyperlink peroperty of the report to call this javascript function, eg,
    javascript:myfunction('http://machine:port/reports/rwservlet?report=...+server=...+empno=&empno')
I am not a javascript expert, so I cannot give you an example of the function, but I hope someone in your team can find out.

  • No options under the distribute tab to copy url link or embed a fillable PDF form

I Have a paid basic account is not giving me the option to under the  distribute tab to copy url link or embed a fillable PDF form? Simply put it doesn't show up for an option. I want to embed the form into my website but the embed feature is not showing up? Please help I have been at this all day.

Based on your answer above, it sounds like you uploaded the file to your website, as opposed to the function being available from formscentral.
If you have downloaded the file from Acrobat Pro then uploaded it to a website and had the upload pinned to a download button, then that is going to be a function of your website. Your workaround has nothing to do with formscentral itself.
You essentially uploaded the file to your website, then made it a downloadable file. The reason it is opening in your browser is because you have the Adobe Reader/Acrobat plug-in for your browser. It's not actually "embedded". If you uninstalled all of your adobe plug-ins, then it would open Reader or Acrobat, not in the browser. The reason it only opens in Safari is likely due to the fact that you only have the Adobe Reader/Acrobat plug-in enabled for Safari, and it is disabled for the other browsers.
    I hope this makes sense!

  • Linking a PDF document to URL in Smart forms

    Hi All,
Please anyone let me know how i can link a PDF document to a link in the smart form output.
I'm outputting Purchase order details on a smartform and I'm supposed to give an URL link for the user to click on it for Terms and Conditions.
Please note that I'm not using interactive forms in web dynpros nor developing with BSP.
I simply developed a smart form in SRM system and I'm able to display an URL but don't know how to link a PDF to that link.
Please some one let me know your ideas how i can attach a PDF to an URL in smart form.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Sowjanya

    Hi,
Follow the below blog and it is very useful achiving your requirement.
    in the blog:
    in the below  point,
    Code to send the email
Following code will transform the html content into displayable format and send email to all the recipients. Note: This form also handles the images (static) defined in the smartform, as well as the images defined with html IMG tag (eg: URL link to image on the network).
you have to convert your pDF output into displayable format. then add that link to your smartform.
    Thanks,
    Sree.

HTML Tags Showing when you Print or Export to PDF from a Report or Dashboard is a long known bug. Oracle don't have a solution and its anticipated to be fixed in 11.1.1.7. For more information refer: bug 5747757 or ID 1064060.1.

  • PDF/URL links continues project when clicked on...

    Hi all
I have put PDF and URL links into my project. What I want is for the user to click on these and read what comes up, then close either the PDF or URL link then go back into the project and click onto the next slide when ready.
At the moment, once one of the links has been clicked on either the PDF or URL opens up but the project continues onto the next slide, which is not what I want.
I'm sure there is a way to change this but I cannot see the setting.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

    Hi there
The options you mention are for when the presentation is presented from inside a frameset. The option you are interested in is the "Continue" option. You need to clear that option to keep the slide from continuing when the object is clicked.

  • Hide webpage link URL from browser status bar?

Anyone know how to hide webpage link URL from the browser
status bar with Dreamweaver CS4? So that when the mouse cursor
hovers over a link on a webpage, the URL won't be shown in the
browser status bar. This comes in useful for when I put my email as
a link on a webpage but I don't want to let my email address be
known prematurely. I prefer to do this through the Dreamweaver CS4
interface without coding, if possible. What is the easiest way to
hide link URL like this? Thanks.

More than the anal users. Many people use this information to
    decide
whether they will click on the link. By hiding it, you remove
    that
extremely valuable security information - for example, a link
    tells you on
the screen that it is taking you to www.wachovia.com, but the
    status bar
link tells you it's taking you to
    www.iamahackersiteandwilldrinkyourmilkshake.cn
I don't think you want to remove that from your site, unless,
    of course, you
    are the webmaster for
    'iamahackersiteandwilldrinkyourmilkshake.cn....
