Clob Column to XML

HI All,
I have table like-
CREATE TABLE C2X_TEST(NAME VARCHAR2(100),XML_CLOB CLOB,XML_XML XMLType);
here in XML_CLOB column xml files are stored.
Now i want to update XML_XML column with corresponding XML_CLOB value .
How to update or insert?

Thanks Odie. Will be trying it this week. We have many documents (Excel, Word) stored as BLOB columns in the Oracle EBS - R12 Procurement suite. Our general plan is to convert them using the following steps:
STEP 1: Convert BLOB to XMLtype (using the technique you have suggested )
STEP 2: Use XQuery to search data ..
I have been reading on the XML docs as well as your blog and I think the number of options here can get very confusing .....when to use what (CLOB, BLOB, XMLType, etc) ....
I am going to try and stick with the following policy:
(a) Use SQL for querying and updating Structured data
(b) Use XQuery for querying and updating XML data
The other options such as the below do not make sense to me ...
(a) Use SQL for XML data
(b) Use XML for Structured data

Searching CLOB column of XML documents with leading wildcard - Performance

Hi, our table has a text indexed CLOB column of XML documents and when performing a search with a leading wild card, we never retrieve any results.
The query looks like this:
select id from <table> where contains(columnname, '(%12345)') > 0;
I cant even generate an explain plan from this query. I killed it after 39 minutes.
If the query changes to:
select id from <table> where contains(columnname, '(12345%)') > 0;
I get an explain plan immediately with a cost=2 and when I execute the query, I get results in less than a second.
I'd appreciate any thoughts of what I should check or what the problem might be.

Can you provide a script that reproduces the case. I am unable to reproduce the problem with just some small sample data, as shown below. That means that there is nothing wrong with the syntax, but you may be having problems due to the size of your data or other parameters that have not been mentioned.

We are using 10g.. and database in which the table is located.. i just have a read only access .. so i am pulling all the data into a flat file (im using a shell script) and from there on i need to process the data... and my problem is how to pull the data in the CLOB using sql or whichever way.. if you can explain me with an example i would really appreciate it...

Well, for starters, both queries are syntactically wrong :
- non terminated string
- incorrect namespace mapping declaration
- unknown XMLType method "getStringValue()"
Secondly, all those functions are deprecated now.
Here's an up-to-date example using XMLTable. It will retrieve the two tag values you mentioned :

You may also want to store XML in XMLType columns for both performance and storage optimizations.

1) when you create DBAdapter on a table which having the clob column watch closely the created xsd for the DBAdapter the clob cloumn element should be a String data type
2) create xsd for Xml File and create variable for the xsd element
3) use ora:parseEscapedXML("yourDBAdapterclobElement") to XmlFileVarilable

Remove an element from XML present in CLOB column

I need to remove element TEST2 and TEST3 from the below XML which is present in the CLOB column of a table. I need to do this using DBMS_XMLDOM package of Oracle as my existing code is using the same -

XML in clob columns and OWB

I’m building some ETL process to extract data from XML in CLOB columns. I know that there are solutions to use functions as extractvalue() of WB_XML_LOAD(), but I want to know if there is any other way to deal with XML. The reason for that is because my XML files have multiple namespaces and nodes, and I need something more complex to deal with that, since I already tried those two first solutions.
My first solution was to create a PL/SQL that parses the XML and looks for tags and elements. It populates a relational table, and I might use OWB to extract the data from this table. But I’m dealing with a large table and it takes a while for processing, plus my code is hude!
My question is: Does someone have any experience with complex XML in Clob columns? If so, what was your solution for that?

CLOB is a fully-updateable, character large object that is stored inside the database. It can be text-indexed using interMedia for document searching.
BFILE is a readonly pointer to a file on the external file system whose content is not physically stored in the database. It can also be text-indexed for document searching, but it can't be updated.

How to query XML data stored in a CLOB column

I don't know XMLDB, so I have a dumb question about querying XML data which is saved as CLOB in a table.
I have a table (OLAP_AW_PRC), with a CLOB column - AW_XML_TMPL_VAL

Now I want to query the data using the xml tags - like returning the name of AW. This is where I am having trouble, how to query the data from AW_XML_TMPL_VAL clob column.
The following query generates error:

After doing @Name in both places (SELECT and WHERE clause) it worked.
Now I have one more question.
There are multiple DIMENSION tags in my xml, and I want to see the NAME attribute values for all of those DIMENSIONs. The following query returns
ORA-19025: EXTRACTVALUE returns value of only one node.
Cause: Given XPath points to more than one node.
Action: Rewrite the query so that exactly one node is returned.

XML Extract from CLOB Column

We have some XML data loaded into CLOB columns, for reasons too long to explain here we are not using the XMLTYPE, but we do need to extract rows based on conditions of the XML data. For performance reasons we do not want to index the CLOB column. I am looking at ways of inspecting the XML and returning matching results by casting the CLOB out as XMLTYPE and opening up xpath/xquery functions - but need this to be efficient. I have initially used extract().getXXXXVal in the where clause of a select statement, ie. where x.xmltype(clob_col).extract('<xpath>').getNumberVal = nn, but have found this very inefficient with memory usage increasing consistently and CPU hitting 100%. can anyone suggest some alternative methods?

XML Import CLOB column size limit

I have a table with a CLOB column and some of the rows have up to 7000 characters in the column. I exported the table to XML and the XML file contains all the data. When I try to import the file into another APEX instance I get the error:
XML Load error.
After some experimentation, I found that If I manually edit the XML to reduce the size of the text to under 4000 characters (3700 in my test), it imports fine.
Is there a way around this limitation? The database I'm migrating has LOTS of CLOB columns (converted from MS Access "memo" fields).

Having converted a bunch of MS Access applications myself, I would encourage you to look at the Oracle Migration Workbench (OMWB): http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/index.html
This free tool can be downloaded from OTN, and provides a more streamlined approach to moving the data from MS Access to Oracle, including support for Memos to CLOBs.
Once you're data has been moved over, you can then use ApEx to re-create the UI.

XML Query on a CLOB Column

I am trying to query a column which is of CLOB data type,in Oracle, and My Data is stored something like this
<Result><Institution>XXX</Institution><Application>XXX</Application><ID>123123123</ID><SequenceID>MSGID123123</SequenceID><DateTime></DateTime></Result>
I am trying to run the xquery on this like this
SELECT Message FROM LOGS
('for $i in ora:view("LOGS")
where $i/Result/Institution/ = 'XXX'
return $i/Result/Institution/
PASSING :Institution AS 'XXX').
I either get exception that "missing right parenthesis" or doesnt execute at all.
My Table "LOGS" as the Columns Message as CLOB.
Any Ideas how to query on this kind of columns in a table in Oracle using XQuery?

First of all, please always give your database version (all digits from "select * from v$version").
Oracle XML support is achieved through the XMLType datatype, so you must first convert any string variable (CLOB, VARCHAR2) holding XML data to that type in order to use XML-related functions.
Now, to the point, if you want to check the existence of a particular node, you can try the following :

How to publish XML document whose source is stored in clob column

I have to create simple application:
in one table are stored some information about XML documents (date of creation, etc.) and the document source itself in one (unfortunatelly clob type) column.
The point is to anable users finding document(s) and viewing it.
Using forms I can search and display information about documents. But I have no idea how to publish XML document whose source is stored in clob column.
I am using Oracle Portal 3.0 on NT.

My user would like to see a hiperlink (or button) that, if pressed/acessed, can open a new page (or a page inside application) with the document. He doesn´t need to edit this oppened file. He only wants to see it.
