Clob fields in OA Pages..

Hi,
I have a table with two clob fields and want to display them on a OA page. So that user can enter as much data he wants in different paragraphs. To accomplish this which type of "Item Style" should be used. Appreciate your help. Thank you.
Vasu.

The maximum size limit for LOBs is 8 to 128 terabytes, depending on your database block size. Why would you want the user to type out even 8 terabytes of text? Are you aware that your middle tier and all the applications running on it would be at the mercy of the user, and that he could force your application server to run out of memory just by uploading text more than the system memory.
The VARCHAR2 column supports 32767 characters. If you expect the user to paste more than that, I think you should be using OAMessageFileUpload to load the file some file to a CLOB instead of making it user-enterable.

  • ASP & Clob fields in the Oracle Database 8i

    Hi All,
    This is the first time I am posting a question. We are having a problem interfacing ASP pages with Clob fields int he Oracle Database.
    We are trying to display clob fields in an oracle database from ASP PAge. The ASP Page does a select to a clob field from a table. But we lose the formatting od the data inside the clob field when we display it out using ASP. We display it as a
    single stream of data. But when we display the clob using SQLPLUS we do see the formatted data.
    How can we solve this issue or circumvent it ?
    We are not looking to parse through the clob field in ASP, rather we already have a stored procedure that parses the data for us. The parsed data is then stored in a clob field already formatted the way we need it. The problem occurs when the ASP
    page reads the clob field. The ASP page reads it as one continuos string instead of the formatted data that exists in the clob field.
    I imported the data from Oracle to Access in order to view the raw data. The data is shown formatted properly in Access, so we know our stored procedure is doing what it supposed to do. As far as getting the data to display. The only way to retrieve (as far as I know) a clob field using ASP is by a built in function called GetChunk(). Is there a better method of displaying the formatted data aside from parsing on the client side, using ASP?
    Let me know if anyone has a solution to this problem.
    Thanks for your help and time. Sanjiv.

  • Insert into a clob field in a procedure based form

    Hi,
    I have a table with a clob field. I wrote a procedure to insert into this table. Then I built a form based on this procedure. Here is my code:
    drop table clob_test;
    create table clob_test(id NUMBER, note CLOB);
    insert into clob_test values(10,empty_clob());
    Create or Replace PROCEDURE PROJECTS.SET_CLOB
    ( p_id IN CLOB_TEST.id%TYPE,
    p_note IN VARCHAR2 default null)
    as
    v_loc CLOB;
    v_amt binary_integer;
    v_pos integer :=1;
    v_clob varchar2(32000);
    Begin
    insert into clob_test values(p_id,empty_clob());
    v_clob := p_note;
    v_amt := LENGTH(v_clob);
    select note into v_loc from clob_test where id = p_id;
    DBMS_LOB.WRITE(v_loc,v_amt,v_pos,v_clob);
    End;
    When I try to insert into note field more than 4000 charaters. I got this error:
    An unexpected error occurred: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small (WWV-16016)
    Why this happens? I know portal form doesn't support clob, but this procedure deal directly with database. Can anyone from Oracle give me help? Thanks in advance!

    I use a dynamic page instead of a form on the procedure. It's working.
    Apparently Oracle is not supporting a varchar2 more than 4000 in any form format, even using textarea for p_note.

  • Parse XML from CLOB field

    How can I parse XML from CLOB field? I need to replace or delete the node from XML document and update the database with new XML. I am using Oracle 9i release 2.
    Here is the XML. In this XML if section1 and section2 exists then I need to delete the section1 node. If section2 doesn't exist, replace section1 with section2 node.
    <Document ID='2' TypeID='2'>
    <Body>
    <Page Name='Page1'>
    <Sec ID='section1' Title='Section 1' GroupID='' />
    <Sec ID='section2' Title='Section 2' GroupID='' />
    </Page>
    </Body>
    </Document>
    Please help.. Thank you..

    In 9.2, you are limited into your options. Have a look into, among others, updateXML. Updating tp 10gR2 will give you more options to succeed.

  • Adding new field to the page when the field source not available

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to add vendor_serial_number (manufacturer's serial number) to the page /oracle/apps/csi/instance/general/webui/InstanceDetailsPG. This column is available in mtl_serial_numbers_all_v table. I don't see any VO in that page has access to this. What is the best approach to add this field in the page.
    Create a new VO with the query to get the vendor_serail_number based on the item_number, serial_number.
    Attach the VO to the AM InstanceDetailsAM or create a new custom AM as we can't attach the new VO to the seeded AM.
    Add a item to the page that gets the column value from this new VO.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks,
    HC

    1. Create the textfield item using personalization.
    2. Create a View Object to get the field
    3. Extend the InstanceDetailsCO and attach the VO to AM programatically in the extended CO.
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks,

  • Duplicate a Text Field on Every Page of a Document?

    Today I wrote my first vb.net/adobe app.  I managed to open the pdf doc in adobe and create a named text field.  I managed to insert a java script that gets the current date when the document is open and updates the text field.  I would like to duplicate the text field on all pages of the document.  Manually, I can right click on a text field and select duplicate.  I don't see a property or method that allows me to program this.  The field property "page" appears to be read only.  any help would be appreciated.  thanks.
    page
    The page number or an array of page numbers of a field. If the field has only one appearance in the document, the page property returns an integer representing the 0-based page number of the page on which the field appears. If the field has multiple appearances, it returns an array of integers, each member of which is a 0-based page number of an appearance of the field. The order in which the page numbers appear in the array is determined by the order in which the individual widgets of this field were created (and is unaffected by tab-order). If an appearance of the field is on a hidden template page, page returns a value of -1 for that appearance.
    TypeInteger | ArrayAccessRFieldsallExample 1Determine whether a particular field appears on one page, or more than one page.var f = this.getField("myField");
    if (typeof f.page == "number")
    console.println("This field only occurs once on page " + f.page);
    else
    console.println("This field occurs " + f.page.length + " times);

    I also tried the brute force method of moving from page to page and creating a text field on each page.   I used pageNum to changes the page, but, adobe didn't seem to recognize that.  I saw the page change on the screen, but, all of the textfields were created on the first page!

  • Multiple clob fields in a single table

    Are there any known performance issues associated with having 4 CLOB fields in a single table... the table as such will be relatively small.. like 100 MB... with most rows being << 50k.

    Not really. If you need 4 CLOB columns and it makes sense to have alll the columns in a single table, go for it.

  • Changing font/-size of a text field on master-pages not possible? (field prop)

    Hi,
    I would like to change the font and font-size of a textfield on a master page.
    I wonder if I do anything wrong, because the font-options (size, font etc.) are simple greyed out / not avaliable, when I click on my text field.
    It seems, there is any way to customize the font-properties of a textfield (only) on master-page.
    Well I guess it would work with java script in init-event ...  but really, why the hell it should not be possible simply to use the properties/text properties?!
    Please correct me if I am wrong. Do I do anything wrong or is it really not possible to customize font of a text field on master pages?

    Hi,
    I was just about to post, that I figured it out.
    Actually, I use Livecycle Designer in SAP (transaction SFP). There seems to be a bug (one of hundrets by the way).
    If I click on a field, that does not have text-property e.g. subform, text-option menu greys out.
    Afterwards it stay this way until I click/doubleclick into a simple text (not text field). From that moment on, text/font-option menu is available again, until I click on something without text. => So pay attention and click wisely
    coming soon: "SAP meets Livecycle Designer - a (Bug)Lovestory", hardcover 124 Pages. ; )
    by the way: SAP does not sopport interactive forms higher than Reader 8.1. Its statement "8.1 is fine enough for everything you need in a SAP/Adobe Interactive Form". So beware of using XFA higher than in 8.1. sad, but true ...

  • Export XML data from a CLOB field using sql developer

    I have a table that contains a CLOB field, each record is a complete XML in itself. After running the select query i am exporting this data by right clicking on the answer set, while the export completes the data for each record gets truncated.
    When i chose to save the export in loader format i get the complete records but now there are n files created for n records exported.
    Is there a way i can get alll the records in a single file wirthout any truncation.
    Thanks in advance!

    You might try delimited format or csv, with no enclosures if desired.

  • Urgent: How to set a default value to CLOB field?

    Hi All,
    As per the requirements we have to populate the CLOB field in a template with default value with some template similar to a letter issued to clients in bank.

  • SharePoint Bug? Conflict Error when saving a Page with a "Required" DateTime field in the page layout

    Hello,
    I've just recently encountered a weird error / bug in SharePoint. Here is the scenario:
    - I have a custom column "Test Date" that is of DateTime field type. The field is configured as REQUIRED.
    - It is added to a custom Content Type "Test CT" that is based on a "Publishing Page" content type
    - I have created a Page Layout "Test PL" which is based on that particular content type.
    Now here is what happens:
    1. I try to create a page based on both that Content Type and Page Layout in the Pages Library. I manage to create it successfully.
    2. However, when I go to try and edit the page, fill-in the required values and try to save it using the PAGE TAB -> SAVE BUTTON, I get the below error/s. Note that this happens no matter what I choose in the drop-down menu for Save Button.
    "The file XXX has been modified by USER on DATE"
    But I know I am the ONLY user modifying the page.
    If I try to save again it gives me options to whether Discard my Changes, Keep Editing, Overwrite Changes, or Merge.
    3. HOWEVER, if I use the Save button on the UPPER RIGHT corner of the screen (the shortcut). I am able to save successfully without any errors!
    The only thing I've tried that made it work was if I made the DateTime OPTIONAL. But I need it to be REQUIRED.
    Is there any workaround to this error / bug?
    Thanks

    I have some additional info but nothing really good.
    If you click the Save in the left side of the Ribbon then it looks like that is when you get the message. If you click the Save in the top right corner you won't get the message. They must be calling different saving functions.
    There really is no way around it other than making the field optional which probably removes some server side validation checks causing that message.
    We've chosen to remove that field from the page as I needed it required, then they can't publish the page until they go to the properties and set the article date. By removing the field from the page layout the message goes away.
    I hope MS will fix this at some point.

  • Need help for SQL SELECT query to fetch XML records from Oracle tables having CLOB field

    Hello,
    I have a scenario wherein i need to fetch records from several oracle tables having CLOB fields(which is holding XML) and then merge them logically to form a hierarchy XML. All these tables are related with PK-FK relationship. This XML hierarchy is having 'OP' as top-most root node and ‘DE’ as it’s bottom-most node with One-To-Many relationship. Hence, Each OP can have multiple GM, Each GM can have multiple DM and so on.
    Table structures are mentioned below:
    OP:
    Name                             Null                    Type
    OP_NBR                    NOT NULL      NUMBER(4)    (Primary Key)
    OP_DESC                                        VARCHAR2(50)
    OP_PAYLOD_XML                           CLOB
    GM:
    Name                          Null                   Type
    GM_NBR                  NOT NULL       NUMBER(4)    (Primary Key)
    GM_DESC                                       VARCHAR2(40)
    OP_NBR               NOT NULL          NUMBER(4)    (Foreign Key)
    GM_PAYLOD_XML                          CLOB
    DM:

    I am using above SQL select statement for fetching the XML records and this gives me all related xmls for each entity in a single record(OP, GM, DM. DE). Output of this SQL query is as below:
    Current O/P:
    <resultSet>
         <Record1>
              <OP_PAYLOD_XML1>
              <GM_PAYLOD_XML1>

    Appreciate your help in this regard!

    Hi,
    A few questions :
    How's your first query supposed to give you an XML output like you show ?
    Is there something you're not telling us?
    What's the content of, for example, <OP_PAYLOD_XML1> ?
    I don't think it's a good idea to embed the node level in the tag name, it would make much sense to expose that as an attribute.
    What's the db version BTW?

    There is no "out of the box" solution for this. You'd have to do a bit of work. However, before we go down that road, I'm curious as to why you'd want to put a password field in a tabular form.
    It's a multi row insert/update/delete (tabular) form, and one of the columns represents a password.
    One row represents "an application". The column represents the application password.
    I actually have two of them (columns) + a process that verifies that the same value was entered in both.
    I'm suprised that this is not out-of-the box possible...
    It would be a very easy to just support the 'password field' type in the dropdown list that I have now used to make it a simple text field. No?
    Appreciate any assistance...

  • How to store the contents of a text file directly in to a clob field

    Hi All,
    Could anyone help me to store the contents of a text file (*.txt,*.xml etc)directly in to a clob field.
    Thanks in advance
    Jayaram.

    One way is to use sqlloader. Three files are used. A control file, an xml data file, and a file with the path of the xml data file. Here's the control file. It reads load.file, which is the file with the path of the xml data file. It names the path ext_path, and inserts the xml into field xml_field.
    CONTENTS OF CONTROL FILE:
    load DATA
    INFILE 'load.file'
    APPEND
    INTO TABLE xml_table
    ( ext_path FILLER CHAR(13),
    "XML_FIELD" LOBFILE(ext_fname) TERMINATED BY EOF
    CONTENTS OF FILE LOAD.FILE:
    /tmp/load.dat
    The xml is in the file /tmp/load.dat.
