Clob objects in search form

Hello.
I am trying to build a search form for my DB following the instructions of the "Developing Rich Web Applications with Oracle ADF" tutorial.
One of the attributes I want to search (which is a field of a table in the DB) is of the type CLOB, but it is marked as non-queryable, and the checkbox is disabled so I cannot make it queryable.
Is there any way to query CLOBs using the built-in search form? I know CLOBs can be queryed in Oracle.
Thank you very much.

Timo,
You're confusing Oracle Text (or whatever it's called now) with CLOB datatype , although a text index on a clob column would be ok.
You can use LIKE on clob columns, but not direct comparison with a string:

  • How to use Multiple Keywords in a Search Form?

    I'm currently using a bind variable on the view object to generate a search form where the user enters one keyword that is applied to the WHERE cause of the SQL query.
    The problem is I'm trying to implement a Google-type search, where the user can enter multiple keywords in a single text input area. I then want to parse out those keywords and search the database on each keyword (similar to a Google search.) Can someone please help me point me in the right direction as to where / how to code in the appropriate hooks to accomplish this?
    Example:
    (user input) Enter Search Keywords: keyword1 keyword2 keyword3.. keywordn
    database query:
    Select item from table where (desc like '%keyword1%') or .. (desc like '%keywordn%') or
    (category like '%keyword1%') or .. (category like '%keywordn%')

    Can't you parse what was entered and create a number of view criteria rows, then apply them? At that point, they would be 'OR'd together'.

  • How To create ADF Search form in JDeveloper 11g 11.1.1.0.1

    Hi,
    I am using JDeveloper 11g 11.1.1.0.1 , in which i tried creating an ADF search form that has Find and Execute Buttons.
    I created the same ADF search form using JDeveloper 11g TP3 and TP4 wherein it works fine but not in JDeveloper 11g 11.1.1.0.1.
    Scenario....
    I dragged a read only view object on to the jspx page as ADF Search Form and dragged the same as Read only table.
    After doing this if i run the application the search functionality does not happen .
    ( I click on the find button and enter the condition and then click on the execute button. records does not get filtered based on that condition specified.)
    But when the same steps is done in 11g TP3 and TP4 the search functionalty works fine.
    Can someone suggest me what is the issue.
    Is this a bug in the new release.

  • List Of Value in search forms

    Hello,
    I am using ADF 11g
    I am trying to prepare a custom search form (not af:query component). I dragged and dropped a view object in data control to create a select one choice component. It is working good.
    But i am not able to have the LOV to have an empty item in the beginning.
    I already tried to edit the View definition, and selected "Include no selection item" in List UI Hints section, but in the page, select one choice still does not have an empty item in the beginning.
    What is missing here or what am i doing wrong ?
    Thanks

    List of values in 11 does not work as in 10.
    They need to be binded in model in specific view attribute.
    You can create a transient view object (i.e. select null as list_attr from dual)
    then you need to add to the attribute the list of value,
    then drag and drop ListAttr to the page

  • How can I show Search Form parameter values in URI of Results page?

    I have searched through these pages for posts relating to caching but haven't seen any that relate to my issue.
    We run a website that accesses data through search forms and returns matching data to the requester in a results page. The search criteria are entered in a form and the results page is generated by a servlet that gets the search parameter values that the user entered using the GET method.
    I would like rewrite this Search page using JDeveloper to bring our old code up to date and take advantage of new features that should help performance. In particular, I want to utilise the WebCache.
    To use the WebCache effectively, the cache needs to know what the search criteria were when it delivers a page so that repeated requests using the same criteria can be served directly from the cache.
    The data retrieved by a query may change from one search to to the next so I can't use time-based caching. But, I can use the WebCache Invalidation interface from the back-end DB server to flush old data out of the WebCache when it is changed, but to flush out the correct pages I need to know the parameter values passed.
    If I just follow the demos, it seems like the search parameters are all hidden in beans or something which means that the Web Cache can't be used for what I want. The parameter values are important.
    So my question is: is there a way of showing the search parameters used in the URI to the Results page? Can the old GET method of parameter passing be used (or can I somehow just put the old style parameters onto the URI?)
    Alternatively, is there a simple How To or Demo on how to use the Web Caching facility with JSF?
    (ADF Caching and Java Object caching do not seem appropriate for my needs. ADF caching seems to be limited to having fragments cached for fixed periods of time and Java Object caching is orders of magnitude slower and involves the Application Server.)
    Thanks for any advice,
    Andy

    Sorry - should have said I'm using JDev 10.1.3.0.4 with JSF & ADF BC.

  • Problems with custom search form in adf

    Hi,
    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.2.4. please can you help with this issue?
    I've created a custom search form with the help from this link.
    Jdeveloper,Oracle ADF & Java: Implementing custom search form in ADF programmatically (Without using af:query)
    I've created two bind variables SkuBind & ImperfectBind and a View Criteria.
    My problem is when I press Search button, it does not filter based on values of the bind variables in the View Criteria.
    I rightly get bind variable values in the System output though
    Skubind = 1000
    Imperfectbind = N
    but there is no where clause
    where clause = null
    public void SearchOddShoes(ActionEvent actionEvent) {
    AppModuleImpl am = (AppModuleImpl)resolvElDC("AppModuleDataControl");
    ViewObject oddShoeVo = am.getRtnOddShoesVO1();
    oddShoeVo.setNamedWhereClauseParam("SkuBind", skuPgBind.getValue());
    oddShoeVo.setNamedWhereClauseParam("ImperfectBind", imperfectPgBind.getValue());
    System.out.print("Named Skubind = " + oddShoeVo.getNamedWhereClauseParam("SkuBind") +"\n");
    System.out.print("Named Imperfectbind = " + oddShoeVo.getNamedWhereClauseParam("ImperfectBind") +"\n");
    System.out.print("where clause = " + oddShoeVo.getWhereClause()+"\n");
    System.out.print("where clause params= " + oddShoeVo.getWhereClauseParams()+"\n");
    System.out.print("Sql is " + oddShoeVo.getQuery()+"\n");
    oddShoeVo.executeQuery();
    public Object resolvElDC(String data) {
               FacesContext fc = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
               Application app = fc.getApplication();
               ExpressionFactory elFactory = app.getExpressionFactory();
               ELContext elContext = fc.getELContext();
               ValueExpression valueExp =
                       elFactory.createValueExpression(elContext, "#{data." + data + ".dataProvider}", Object.class);
               return valueExp.getValue(elContext);
    thanks

    Not clear what part of the code doesn't work. Assuming that you did check that the code you wrote executed
    the problem may be the following.
    You need to add partial trigger on the destination component.
    Add ...
    oddShoeVo.executeQuery();
    AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(HERE_THE_BIND_NAME_OF_YOUR_TABLE);
    Also I don't see that you acctually use View Criteria. There are specific way to apply View Criteria programatically and I don't see that you use it.
    The simpliest way is just to change the VO query to embed bind variables into the query
    E.G.
    select 1
    from dual
    where some_column= :P_PARAM1

  • HOW TO CREATE A KEYWORD SEARCH FORM

    Hi, I'm creating a image gallery and I'm about 90% complete. One of my  final objectives is to create a keyword search for my image gallery. I  have 4 fields in my DB, (id,image,description,keywords) I want to be  able to enter keywords into the text field  and the images with there  descriptions show up. I already have the  keywords in my mysql, I already know how to use mysql, I just need to learn how to add a search form that pulls keywords from my mysql. THIS DOES NOT REQUIRE ANY CODE so please do not respond with code. I just need a step by step on what type of form to insert, (dynamic text field or text field) what paramaters to pass etc. NO CODE, this whole thing can be done in design veiw.
    For this project I'm using Dreamweaver Cs5, I'm not really an  experienced coder I rely heavily on dreamweaver for my code, I just make  minor tweaks. So if anyone has an answer to my problem please break  down and simplify your answer I'm still a beginner. Thanks in advance.

    This is helpfull but I'm still running in to some problems. I believe everything on my search page is correct, I think it's my results page thats giving me issues.  When I view my search page in firefox and type in a keyword in the text field, when the results page loads all I get is the field names of DB table (id,layouts,desription,key_words) instead of the actual data...??
    On my search page in the action box I have my results page "search_results.php". In the method box I have "GET".  On my "search_ruselts.php" page I created a recordset, selected all columns, and filtered "key_words". (im not sure if I filtered correctly) I placed this in a dynamic table. Where did I go wrong?

  • Search form with af:pannelTabbed results issue

    Hi all,
    I've created a search page with an ADF Parameter Form based on an ExecuteWithParams operation.
    Following [url http://blogs.oracle.com/shay/2010/12/combining_multiple_queries_and.html?goback=.gde_1002457_news_308820955]Shay Shmeltzer´s post, the search form queries two view objects simultaneously and the results are displayed in two tables (each in a different tab).
    Everything goes fine if both tables are displayed in the same af:showDetailItem tab.
    If each table is displayed in a different tab then executing the search works for the first tab (the one that's disclosed by default). But when clicking on the second tab, no results are displayed. I have to reexecute the search.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    ADF Business Components 11.1.1.56.60
    Java(TM) Platform 1.6.0_18
    Oracle IDE 11.1.1.3.37.56.60

    Most probably your problem is different, but I remembered another (possibly similar) problem.
    A few months ago another guy had a problem related to PPR of content on a ShowDetailItem in a PanelTabbed. He had not set the whole ShowDetailItem as PPR target but he had set a PanelFormLayout inside the ShowDetailItem as a PPR target. The problem was workarounded by setting either the whole ShowDetailItem or the whole PanelTabbed as a PPR target. So if you have not set the whole ShowDetailItem as a PPR target of the "execute query" button (by using ShowDetailItem's "partialTriggers" attribute), please try what will happen if you set it.

  • Doubt in WebStyle search form in ADF

    Hi,
    I do have a search form as in the following url.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/muench/screencasts/threesearchpages/threesearchforms_partone.html?_template=/ocom/technology/content/print
    The 'SearchView' has three entity objects in it. One entity is the main table with a primary key. And the other two has the foreign key of the main table and it has multiple records for the same primary key of the main table. So now if I drag and drop this 'SearchView' as a adf search form, the result shows multiple results for the same primary key of the main table as it has multiple occurence in the other two tables.
    So in this scenario, is it possible for me to display the results only from the main table? That is I want to see only one result for the primary key. But at the same time I need other entity objects also in the search view.
    Or can you suggest me any other way to do this? Please help me.
    Thanks,
    Priya.S

    Jan and Steve,
    Thanks so much for the reply. But I am still confused with my case.
    There are three entities.
    1. Bill info (All main info with a request Id as a primary key, with the final status )
    2. Bill status history (Different status history for the same request id)
    3. Bill items (Different items to be billed for the same request id)
    My requirement is that I need to have a search page to find the requests using the request id and other criteria. The result(billInfoviewresult) is a adf table with the request ids which is given with a command link. So using the link, I can navigate to the actual request. This result page should have all the above three entities. i.e. a read and write table for the item entity with the old values and a adf creation form for the 'Status history' so that the user can change the status (the status should be inserted as a new row. The DB should have all the status history from 'new' to 'completed').Everything should be for that particular request id.
    I had a viewobject only for the bill info entity so that the result was a single occurence for a requestid. But I find difficulty in creating a status and item table as it always points to the first record in the data base. And when I manually change the data to set to this particular request, I do get null values. Because of this I wanted to add all these entities into a single viewobject. But getting multiple occurence for the same id in the result.
    Can you please give me any suggestion in building the correct viewobject to acheive this?
    Thanks,
    Priya

  • Creating a Search form for Captivate courses

    I've been asked to create a search form for our online courses. We do not use the TOC in our courses so the Find field in the TOC is not an option. Here are the ideas I've had so far:
    a Javascript-powered form search
    a search form widget
    a Google search embedded into the surrounding HTML page (But I don't think that Google can "see" text inside the Captivate SWF object...)
    Right now, we are using Captivate 5.5, but do plan to move to Captivate 6.0 fairly soon. I'm grateful for any ideas.
    Thanks!

    You're hitting a bug. See ADF Faces Classical Search Form works only with Entity base VO  in JDev 11? for a workaround suggestion.

  • Best way to store user-saved searches/forms

    Hello,
    in our project, we want to give to our users ability to save form fields values for later use. It will be named the fast OR saved searches.
    We have a relatively huge number of search forms, each one with specific fields. So I don't want, if possible, to use a distinct table for each form.
    The good and logic way to design the table for this purpose looks like :
    SAVED_USERS_FORMS (
    USER_ID NUMBER,
    -- corresponding user
    FORM_ID NUMBER,
    -- system wide unique form identificator (maybe varchar2 code rather than number?)
    SAVED_NAME VARCHAR2,
    -- name of the shorcut/saved form, by user
    FIELDS_VALUES ???????,
    -- saved fields key/values for PK (user, form, name) combination
    PRIMARY KEY (USER_ID, FORM_ID, SAVED_NAME)
    The hesitation here is : how to store the fields & values pairs?
    - XML field?
    - our custom text structure and formating representing something key => value
    - our custom serialized java object into a field
    I think that the EAV modelling technique approach can be a flexible way to achieve our goal, but as I read on the net there's an important set of downsides with this approach. But, this way, my table is something like:
    SAVED_USERS_FORMS (
    USER_ID NUMBER,
    FORM_ID NUMBER,
    SAVED_NAME VARCHAR2,
    FIELD_NAME VARCHAR2,
    FIELD_VALUE ????,
    -- saved field key/values for PK (user, form, name, field name) combination
    PRIMARY KEY (USER_ID, FORM_ID, SAVED_NAME, FIELD_NAME)
    So the new problem can be the field FIELD_VALUE type enforcement. Do we need to have a field for each data type, so validation complexity can increase dramatically...
    Do we need or is suggested to have in a way or another metadata tables describing supported form fields, datatypes, etc?
    Other things to take into account:
    * simple and scalable solution, heh, ye, please.
    * what happens if the form evolve over time? the final solution must not crash or cause some kind of inconsistencies.
    * ..... others ..... ?

  • Case-insensitive Search with Search Form

    I am using a Search Form with a UIX Page. One of the issue that need to be resolved is to be able to do case-insensitive search for text information stored in some database columns. Please advise me how to implement case_insensitive search with JDeveloper's Search Form.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Qian,
    This article (below) by Steve Muench explains how you can customize Query by example behaviour of ADF BCs and if you really want, how to create your own ViewCriteriaAdapter (but you don't have to go quite that far - luckily :) ).
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/2005/02/10.html#a492
    Here is what I did. I implemented the following method in my base view object class (MyBaseViewObject). Note that this code is based on a piece of code that Steve posted on his blog (http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2003/07/11/implementingAViewCriteriaAdapterToCustomizeQueryByExampleFunctionality.html); originally an example about creating your own ViewCriteriaAdapter.
    Since applyViewCriteria(oracle.jbo.ViewCriteria) is used by the query-by-example mechanism you're able to "intercept" the ViewCriteria on "it's way in". After that the standard ViewCriteria does it's job as ususal and generated the where clause when required.
    public void applyViewCriteria(ViewCriteria vc)
         if( null == vc || vc.size() == 0 ) super.applyViewCriteria(vc);
         ViewCriteriaRow criteriaRow = (ViewCriteriaRow)vc.first();
         StructureDef def = criteriaRow.getStructureDef();
         AttributeDef[] attrs = def.getAttributeDefs();
         System.out.println(getClass().getName() + ": applyViewCriteria()");
         boolean bFirst = true;
         do{
           if(vc.hasNext() && !bFirst) criteriaRow = (ViewCriteriaRow)vc.next();
           criteriaRow.setUpperColumns(true);
           for (int j = 0, attrCt = attrs.length; j < attrCt; j++)
             String criteriaAttrVal = ((String)criteriaRow.getAttribute(j));
             if (criteriaAttrVal != null && !criteriaAttrVal.equals("") && !JboTypeMap.isNumericType(attrs[j].getSQLType()))
              criteriaRow.setAttribute(j,criteriaAttrVal.toUpperCase());
           bFirst=false;
         }while(vc.hasNext());
         super.applyViewCriteria(vc);
    NOTE that doing this makes all your views case insensitive (to vc search) you may want to implement more functionality in your base view object to set whether a view is in case insensitive mode or not.
    ALSO that flag will not be passivated (if I remember correctly - someone correct me if I'm wrong) so you'll have to add that flag to the passivated data.
    Cheers!

  • How to create Pro grammatically Search Form ?

    Version 11.1.1.3.0
    HI i have a requirement where i cant use the search panel/Af:guery panel or View criteria to create the Search form,
    I want simple search on 3 fields and result shld dispaly in table.
    How can i do that??
    Thanks for help

    Two things:
    1. I don't know why you need to have the bean populate the list box -- is it based on other values in the form, requiring a runtime filter? "data" belongs in databases.
    If so, I would recommend looking up Cascading List boxes (Shay has a youtube channel with that) and I have a video on that, too.
    Secondly, you can have list box on the form that will show the "readable" value to the user that they can select. I have a video on that -- possibly the first video I mentioned, but this one may help too.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytpLTC5HdvA&feature=plcp
    2. To create a view criteria programatically:
    In the application module, go to the java tab and create an appmoduleimple class. Create a method that manipulates the view criteria and executes the view object. Then expose that on the application module. On the data control, drag and drop the method onto your form. Choose parameter form.
    A form should be created that has the input and button.
    3. On the data control, click on the method and under it, select parameter. drag that onto the form. Select listbox when it asks what kind of control you want to create. Then it will display the listbox gui to connect the database table. This will create a listbox on the form that users can then select. You can manipulate the view object (also using view critieria) behind the listbox to filter data based on some value on the form.
    I am writing from memory here, so I might have skipped a step.

  • How to make a search form with required items?

    Hi
    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.2 and JHeadstart 11.1.1.2.29
    I want to make a Search-form for Searching Employees. I want to search for Last Name OR First Name OR Maximum Salary OR ( Combination ManagerID and DepartmentID). One of these is required.
    On the view object for Employees, I defined a view criteria for the search.
    In JHeadstart, I disable Quick Search and set Advanced Search to model-samePage and Advanced Search View Criteria to the view criteria I just defined.
    But now, I can also personalize the Advanced Search. How can I disable this?
    And is this the right way to create such a Search-form or do you have other suggestions?
    Regards,

    The model-based search is standard ADF functionality.
    Jheadstart simply generate the search component on the page. There are a lot of addiitonal properties on af:query that you can set that we do not expose through the Jheadstart application definition editor.
    You can create a custom template to set those additional properties.
    See the af:query tag doc for more info:
