Clone DB to a new Server

Hi,
I'm trying to clone our old server with a Oracle database to a new computer. But I can't get our ERP system running because the database is not working somehow. Unfortunately my database knowledge is quite limited.
Actually I cloned the whole system but maybe something went wrong with copying the database. In the original system I opened the "Adminstration Assistent for Windows", stopped the database service by right click and copied the files to the new server.
When I start the ERP system it says "Oracle 8 Error: ORA-01033: Oracle initialization or shutdown in progress".
Any help would really be appreciated.
Thanks
Oliver

  • RMAN clone in new server

    Hi
    I have rman tape backup of the entire database. I want to clone this on new server.
    I have started database in new server. It is in mount stage. how to restore and recover the datafiles on new host.
    I am using leagato server for tape backup. Please guide me on this.

    You need to use RMAN DUPLICATE and to adapt following steps to your environment http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/rcmdupdb.htm#i1006474.
    About tape backups, please note:
    >
    When using tape backups, you must make the tapes containing the backups accessible to the remote node. You can achieve this goal by physically moving the tape to a drive attached to the remote host or by means of a network-accessible tape server.

  • Advice on RAID and backup of new server in CAD office

    Hi, I work for an architects firm and we're looking to purchase a new server.
    Our current situation:
    • Dozen workstations running Leopard, on a gigabit network
    • Server running Leopard Server (Standard setup), with one 250GB ATA hard drive (17GB space spare)
    • Data files are backed up and taken off site each day with a triple rotation of external hard drives, using Retrospect.
    • The server hard drive is cloned to an external drive each week, which stays on site, using SuperDuper.
    • User accounts from workstations are all backed up to an external drive, which also stays on site, using Retrospect.
    • And I've been trialing Time Machine, backing up the data to an external hard drive, but I can't see this replacing Restrospect backup as Time Machine doesn't compress the files.
    To the future:
    • What sort of RAID setup should we go for in a new Mac Pro server?
    • I'd like to throw it all into performance but I'm thinking we should probably use a RAID to replace our SuperDuper clone from above.
    • When you have mirrored drives presumably if one fails the other one just carries on doing all the work by itself?
    • Should we run the system on two mirrored drives and the data on the other two? Or if I'm looking for more performance would I be better having 3 mirrored drives for the data and one for the system? Is this even possible?
    • Is it possible to get the smaller 73GB SAS drives for the Mac Pros? It seems you can only get the 300GB ones, which are £500 a pop!

    Keep in mind that mirrored RAIDs require two similar drives preferably the same make and model. A mirrored RAID only provides drive failure protection, it does not provide data redundancy. If you need a backup then you need two mirrored RAIDs using one to backup the other. This is also true of striped RAIDs which only provide increased storage but provide no protection against drive failure nor provide data redundancy.
    These factors should be taken into account when planning your setup.
    Personally, I would not recommend using Time Machine. Aside from being fairly basic as a backup utility it is not sufficiently reliable in my opinion for your situation. Retrospect is a much better choice.

  • Java manually installaiton is required in the case of  r12 cloning on the new server.

    Hi experts,
    i have need some suggestion. i have required to clone my production database to a fully new test server. for this i know i have  required  to prepare the new test server for ebs r12. for exp install rpm package, setup the kernel parameters create the group and os users etc...
    my confusion is that  "  have I required to install java manually when going to clone the database to a fully new test server( 1st time on that server direct cloning) "
    as per my knowledge java  already bundle with r12 and need not to install manually when we are going to install r12   1st  time on a new server. but what in  the case of cloning.
    plz plz suggest me right way. i have to do the cloning on client side so i m little nervous. plz help me......

    as per my knowledge java  already bundle with r12 and need not to install manually when we are going to install r12   1st  time on a new server. but what in  the case of cloning.
    The same thing applies to cloning. So, you need to install OS software and pre-req. packages (which you are already aware of), then you Rapid Clone (pre-clone, copy files, post-clone).

  • Migrating to New server

    Hi All,
    Have a two node RAC say A and B. I need to move this to a new two node server retaining the same ip and hostname. Same OS is installed in the new server. Storage administrator says he can mount the same mountpoints to the new server except default OS mountpoints like /etc , /var, /tmp.
    In Rac the init* services are under the /etc/init.d how do i get this to new servers. Does mounting the all mount points and if crs is there , bring down A and B and assign the IP and hostname to new servers, will it bring up all services??
    thanks,
    baskar.l

    Hi,
    no this will not work, since the RAC installation itself places some more root files (like updating inittab and creating /etc/oracle and other things).
    Even if you know RAC good enough to know what all to copy, this would not be supported.
    The only thing, which "might" work is to clone the disks to the new server (e.g. with dd or Norton ghost), but even then, this would not be officially supported by Oracle.
    The way to echange nodes in a RAC environment is to actually add a node and delete a node (or first delete one and add it back in).
    The good thing with "add a node" and delete a node is, that this can be done online, without interrupting your operation.

  • Migrating to new server - Can anyone save me some time?

    Hi all!
    I've got a very basic Tiger server setup... only running services are firewall, ftp, mail and web. Web service is supporting 6 virtually hosted domains, and mail service is carrying 1-6 users (eMail accounts) for each of the 6 domains. I'm migrating the web service by manually re-configuring it all on the new machine and moving /library/webserver/documents on a DVD.
    Is there a short list of files/directories I can copy over to preserve my mail accounts, users and mail messages? I have a remote user who can't change any settings in her Mail.app, and another user with 4000+ mail messages in his IMAP inbox. One guy has all of his photos and junk sorted into 12 user-created folders within his inbox. Needless to say, I'm in seriously hot water if there is too much disturbance and anything is lost.
    Downtime is not an issue - I can stop services for several hours if need be.
    Right now my plan is to use mailbfr to backup everything it can, but I don't believe that will move my user account database, will it? I would like to simply clone the HD and drag it to the new server, but the old machine is a G5 and the new one is Intel, so I have my doubts.
    Ideas?
    Thanks in advance!
    -Case

    Hi
    Launch WorkGroup Manager and select the node you are interested in or the node that has all your users; eg: local NetInfo or /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1. Command+A will select all the users in the node, but make sure you de-select the Server admin or Directory admin accounts (depending on which node you are in) as you dont want to transfer those over. Next click on the Server Menu and select Export and save the user list file to a desired location. Do the same for groups. The process works in reverse on the new server. Bear in mind passwords are not transferred over. You can transfer passwords over but it is not a trivial thing to attempt. There is a technical article available on afp548 that outlines how you can do this if you feel brave enough

  • How to use clone to make a new instance

    Hi:
    I have a question here and need your help. If I have a new server ready and has no Oracle on it. I want to use clone to copy the production EBS to this new machine so I can use it as a test instance. How do I do it?
    Thank you very much.

    Hi;
    Thank you but I don't have metalink account. Please just tell me if this is correct: I can use rapid clone to copy all to a test instance after the server is setting up, I don't have to install 11i, correct? Thank you.Yes you dont need to install anything, after clone you will have as same as your source system on target machine with same data-users etc.
    For clone process you can check my blog

  • Move database to the new server

    Hello,
    I have 10.2.0.1 Standard Edition database (7GB, not in archivelog mode) on Windows2003 server, and need to move it to the new server (same environment). I thought to use OEM Clone option, but it appears cloning to the other host is working only in Grid - and I have DB Control.
    I know about manual cloning/recreation, but now looking into export and import option. So I think to install Oracle database on the new server, then import some relevant tablespaces exported from the old database. I will use datapump utility in OEM, under system username.
    Is that a good approach ? What rules should be applied to avoid problems in that case ? Sorry if it's very basic question, never moved database before.
    Marina

    Options for porting the database from one server to another after installing Oracle on the new server incldue
    Export/Import using expdp/impdp
    Rman duplicate to compatiable hardware
    Rman file conversion to non-compatiable hardware
    On advantage of expdp/impdp is this option supports reconfiguring the database tablespace/file/object storage layout as part of the migration. Also the adoption of new features like ASSM.
    A disadvantage is that using expdp/impdp will probably be slower and involve more DBA work than using file copies via rman. There are approaches to reduce the clock time necessary to support export/import and the work is often beneficial for long-term database management efforts.
    There have been threads on this topic before and failry recently. You might want to hunt one or two of them down.

  • Can I use expdp/impdp for APEX schemas to setup a new server?

    If setting up a new development server that will replace an old server, can I simply use datapump tp export the APEX_040100 and FLOWS_FILES schemas on the old server, and just import the schemas on the new server? That would seem much simpler and faster than exporting all the applications in the APEX console, and importing the applications, much less steps involved.

    Pl post database and OS versions. Is there a reason you cannot clone the entire database from the old server to the new ?

  • Migrating Apps 11i to new server

    Hi Guys,
    I have recently been appointed as the DBA at a site that ran Apps 11i for more than a year, without as much as a patch update. Suddenly they needed clones, and all sorts of things to happen. Instead of taking a 3 month patch by patch process, does someone have a methodology, if I build a new server from scratch, install SuSE Linux 9, then a blank 9i DB, and the new patched application layer on top of that, can I "clone" the current system to a new server, data only - is there a white paper / methodology around I can use?
    Tx
    Willis

    I beleive in your case you can easily make the clone by applying the rapid clone patch on your 11.5.9 instance. Check the metalink note Note:230672.1. Since you are on 11.5.9 and autoconfig enabled there won't be much complication.
    we had a similar kind of situation with one our client. Their hard disks crashed and don't have backup of application tier. What they have is database backup.
    What we did is :
    -Made a fresh installation of apps withe same instance name and paths
    -backedup the new database to different path
    -Restored the old database of crashed instance from backup and got the llist of all patches applied previously
    - Remove the restored database.
    -again restored the fresh database backedup
    -Applied all the patches
    - Restored the old database of crashed instance from backup
    - Did all customization and workarounds

  • Newbie question - cloning to a new server

    Hi all,
    I am very new to the EBS world, so please forgive the "newbie" question. We are running 12.0.4, and we have approximately 12 different environments. We probably do 3 to 4 clones a week, generally from production to one of the existing environments.
    However, we now have a couple brand new Linux servers, and we want to set them up as a new environment to clone to (one will be apps server, one will be DB server). I am looking at some of the Metalink documents on how to do this. But my basic question is this - do I first have to do a basic EBS installation onto these servers, before I will be able to clone an environment over to them?
    Thanks!!

    Hi all,
    here we have 2 node setup
    node 1 : apps + db (cm + db)
    node 2 : apps (web + forms)
    requirement is we want to move node 2 to new server bcoz os team wants to do some maintainance on node 2.
    is this possible to move only node 2 (web + forms) to new server through rapid clone n sync with existing cm and db node or we have to move entire setup to new servers
    links n MOS doc ids highly appreciated

    apps : 11.5.9
    db: 9.2.0.8
    os : RHEL 4
    Thanks,
    Haafiz

    Yes it is possible and all you need to do is the following (you don't need to move node1):
    - Install OS on the new server + OS pre-req software and packages
    - Run preclone on node 2
    - Shutdown the application on node 2 and copy the files to the new node
    - Run postclone on the new node
    - Clean FND_NODES and run AutoConfig

  • SBS2008: Move email from Exchange 2007 to new server with Exchange 2013

    We have an old server (SBS2008) and plan to buy a new server with (Server 2012). I need to move all the exchange emails, contacts & calendars to the new server. We will no longer use the old server.
    Is there a document or migration tool that will help me understand how to move this data form the old exchange server to the new one?
    Old Server:
    SBS2008 running Exchange 2007
    New Server:
    Server 2012
    Exchange 2013
    Any help is appreciated!

    Hi Dave,
    It can be done, and as Larry suggested you will consider two Server 2012 installs in order to achieve an environment that looks like your current SBS roles; Exchange 2013 on an Active Directory controller isn't a good long-term solution (SBS did this for
    you in the past).
    For your size operation, a virtual server host, with a Windows Server 2012 license, and two virtual machines would probably be a suitable design model.  In this manner, you have Server 2012 license that permits 1 +2 licenses (one host for virtualization,
    up to 2 Virtual Machines on same host).
    There's no migration tool. That comes with experience and usually trial and error. You earn the skills in this migration path, and for the average SBS support person you should plan on spending 3x (or more) your efforts estimate in hours planning your migration.
    You can find a recommended migration path at this link to give you an idea of the steps, but its not exactly point by point going to cover you off for an sbs2008 to server 2012 w/exchange 2013 migration.  But the high points are in here. If it looks
    like something you would be comfortable with then you should research more.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/infratalks/archive/2012/09/07/transition-from-small-business-server-to-standard-windows-server.aspx
    Specific around integrating Exchange 2013 into an Exchange 2007 environment, guidance for that can be found here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj898582(v=exchg.150).aspx
    If that looks like something beyond your comfort level, then you might consider building a new 2012 server with Exchange 2013 environment out as new, manually export your exchange 2007 mailbox contents (to PST) and then import them into the new mail server,
    and migrate your workstations out of old domain into new domain.  Whether this is more or less work at your workstation count is dependent upon a lot of variables.
    If you have more questions about the process, update the thread and we'll try to assist.
    Hopefully this info answered your original question.
    Cheers,

  • 7.5 SP3 New Server - Runtime Error on Web Page

    Hi experts
    I have added a new web server to an existing BPC installation.
    The environment is load-balanced, 7.5 SP3, built on windows server 2003 SP2, with SQL 2008 SP1
    I used the prerequisites:
    Xceed v6.5
    Antixscript v3
    However, when I try to open the /osoft page directly on the new server, I see the error shown at the bottom of this page.
    I checked the DLLs against those on the 2 working servers, and they are the same.
    I have copied the antixscript dll from system32 to websvr\bin, as I have seen similar problems before and this has resolved it.
    Unfortunately, it hasn't worked this time.
    I have also checked that I can log my PC (windows 7, IE8) into either of the existing web servers, and they work fine
    I have also opened the web site directly on the new server and that works fine (although it offers nothing but Web and Admin, as Excel is not installed)
    I really need to get this server up for user testing first thing in the morning (UK time)
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks
    ERROR DETAILS:
    Server Error in '/OSoft' Application.
    Runtime Error
    Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.
    Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".
    <!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
    <configuration>
        <system.web>
            <customErrors mode="Off"/>
        </system.web>
    </configuration>
    Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.
    <!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
    <configuration>
        <system.web>
            <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
        </system.web>
    </configuration>

    Quick update:
    I'm removing BPC and reinstalling, as the issue definitely lies within BPC and/or its associated Web Site.
    I know this as I am able to successfully connect from a client PC to to Reporting Services website.
    If anyone has any suggestions, now would be a great time to make them known.
    Thanks again

  • Problem with the new server UCS C220 for set IP to CIMC

    Hi
    We’ve a problem with the new server UCS C220.
    We bought two servers UCS C220 M3 for CallManager 8.6 with High Availability.
    When we turn on the server during the boot and when it tells us, oppress F8 to enter at the CIMC and set the IP. But it never enters at the CIMC.
    Then, we configure our DHCP server and our switch, we connect the three gigabyte ports to our switch to give him an IP to the CIMC, so and then can enter via browser, but neither works.
    Note. The dedicated management NIC does not link, the other two ports do make link.
    What do you suggest to put an IP to CIMC and start installing our applications?
    regards

    You may have noticed that there is no DVD rom on the c220. What you need to do is:
    Login into the CIMC from your browser
    Luanch the KVM
    Insert the VMware DVD in your machines drive
    On the KVM pop up there should be a tab to mount the drive, after mounting it click on Macros and choose ctrl_alt+delete to restart.
    After the VMware OS installs press F2 to enter IP.
    Browse to the VMware ip to download the Vsphere client
    Open the Vsphere client, enter the ip of the vmware and the username will be root and no password if you did not set one.
    You can now upload OVA templates or manually create virtua machine from this enviroment.
    Hope this help
