Cloning Oracle database 8.1.7.0

Hi,
We have upgraded our database from Oracle 8.1.7.0 to Oracle 8.1.7.4 , applied terminal patch set(Oracle 8.1.7.4) , as we have to upgrade it further to 10g rel2.
After upgrading to 8.1.7.4, we required to apply the database fixes against the mentioned bugs.
One of the Serious Server Issues is mentioned below after upgradation,
Changing the Database Character Set can corrupt LOBs ( Note 118242.1)
we have gone through the note mentioned above,
In that one of the point regarding cloning is as below :
If the database version is 8.1.7.3 or 8.1.7.4:
- install non-patched Oracle 8.1.7.0.0 from the original CD-Pack
into a separate ORACLE_HOME
- take a full backup of the database
- create a clone database from this backup using the 8.1.7.0.0
version of the RDBMS software -- contact Oracle Support
if you need help; the clone should open with the older
non-patched software without any downgrade steps
- export all non-system tables with non-NULL CLOB and/or NCLOB columns
from the clone; do not forget to set NLS_LANG environment
variable to the database character set for the export session;
you can use the 8.1.7.0.0 version of the Export utility
- truncate the exported tables but in the original database
- reimport the exported tables into the original database;
do not forget to set NLS_LANG environment variable to
the database character set for the import session;
use the Import utility from the original ORACLE_HOME
- drop the clone database - do not use the clone for other
purposes as it is not supported to run a patched database
with the non-patched software.
How to Clone the Oracle database (8.1.7.0) on windows OS ?
From where i would get the Cloning steps to accomplish the above steps on Windows OS ?
With Regards

  • Cloning Oracle Database Machine

    Hi
I have a Oracle database 11g installed on VMWare workstation. I have done clone of this database machine.
Now I want to use the database from the cloned machine. To use this I have assigned new IP address and new machine name to this machine. What all do I need to change other than setting IP address and hostname?
    Thanks

Might depend upon how your VMware gets its IP address.
For VMware I would consider both a hosts file entry and a static listener. For the host if you always get the same IP consider adding it under localhost.localdomain localhost :
    Example
    # that require network functionality will fail.
    127.0.0.1               localhost.localdomain localhostListener example :
    SID_LIST_listener=
    (SID_LIST=
    (SID_DESC=
      (GLOBAL_DBNAME=sales.us.acme.com)
      (SID_NAME=sales)
(ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/10g)))Generally if I shutdown the VMware server and copy the files and then pick "Moved it" when I run it, it works with just minor changes to Net80.

    Later
Sometimes if I have issues I add a new network card to the VM and remove the old one. This has helped "force" a new IP address sometimes.

  • Cloning Oracle database with ASM --

    Hello All,
    I am new to ASM.
We have recently migrated our 10g database into 11gASM. Now we want to clone the database to a different server. I am completely aware of the cloning a standalone database. But this is something new to me. Cloning a database which is in ASM is new to me. Please help me with the steps.
    thank you

Nothing is there to change in the case of ASM. The normal procedure standalone database cloning applies here.
One thing you got to rememer is the DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT and LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT. Set the ASM path in both parameters as source.

I am NOT a database administrator. A requirement came up such that I had to take up the Database Administrator role. The problem is like this...
I have an oracle 10gR2 (Development) database on a Windows 2003 Server situated locally (in India). I need to copy or clone this Oracle Database to another Windows 2003 Server located remotely (in USA).
How do I do this? Well I have done some websearch and found out various methods like RMAN DUPLICATE and so on. I don't understand RMAN - I am not an Administrator.
Please do give me the proper step-by-step functions that I need to perform to solve my problem.

I am new to DBA Learning how to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career. To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
    Go to tahiti.oracle.com.
Drill down to your product and version.
    <b><i><u>BOOKMARK THAT LOCATION</u></i></b>
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab you will find the complete documentation library.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of information is available there.
Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
Do the same with the Utilities manual.
You don't have to read the above in depth. They are <b><i><u>reference</b></i></u> manuals. Just get familiar with <b><i><u>what</b></i></u> is there to <b><i><u>be</b></i></u> referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
    - Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual.
    - Take a look in your alert log. One of the first things listed at startup is the initialization parms with non-default values. Read up on each one of them (listed in your alert log) in the Reference Manual.
    - Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files. Go to the Network Administrators manual and read up on everything you see in those files.
    - When you have finished reading the Concepts Manual, do it again.
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.

  • Cloning the Oracle Database Server which has Grid 11.2.03 and DB 11.2.0.3

    Hi DBA's,
Did anybody came across cloning a database servers? If i have the OFA for Grid and DB homes i.e /u01/app/oracle so after clone it will be the same across all servers. So the inventory structure will be same also. After cloning changing the listener.ora files to point to new IP/Hostname can bring up the listener. What else? Did anybody tried this things and what all issues have come or what all issues could come.
    Thanks,
    Bhushan Altekar

Ok. I got the cloned VM . I did the same steps as we use for normal grid and db cloning. Below are the steps i did.
    1) change the ip address
    2) reboot
    3) after reboot wait for few minutes till the ASM comes up automatically
    4) as root run the below command
    /u01/app/oracle/product/11203/grid/crs/install/roothas.pl -deconfig –force
    5) Change the hostname with system-config-network-tui - Edit DNS Configuration and change the hostname here
    6) Edit the /etc/hosts file and enter the ip address and the hostname
    7)Reboot
    8) After the reboot as root run the command
    /u01/app/oracle/product/11203/grid/root.sh
    ================================
    #output of step 8
    [root@cat ~]# /u01/app/oracle/product/11203/grid/root.sh
Performing root user operation for Oracle 11g
The following environment variables are set as:
    ORACLE_OWNER= oracle
    ORACLE_HOME= /u01/app/oracle/product/11203/grid
Enter the full pathname of the local bin directory: [usr/local/bin]:
The contents of "dbhome" have not changed. No need to overwrite.
The contents of "oraenv" have not changed. No need to overwrite.
The contents of "coraenv" have not changed. No need to overwrite.
Entries will be added to the /etc/oratab file as needed by
Database Configuration Assistant when a database is created
Finished running generic part of root script.
Now product-specific root actions will be performed.
    Using configuration parameter file: /u01/app/oracle/product/11203/grid/crs/install/crsconfig_params

    ===============================
    9) stop the HAS service
    crsctl stop has
    10) Add the listener
    srvctl add listener
    11) Add the asm instance as new cloned grid don’t know about it. So we have to add it and see its added or not.
    12) srvctl add asm -d '/dev/oracleasm/disks/*' # Note here if you specify wrong diskstring. Your Oracle restart stack wont come up automatically after reboot. so please specify it correctly.
    13) crsctl status res # check all the resources are added or not
    14) edit the listener.ora file and change the hostname ( HOST = XXXX part of the file)
    15) crsctl enable has
Congrats we have successfully cloned the database server itself.
Please check the steps i did. And add if you think it should be added and taken care of.

  • Cloning and Renaming an Oracle Database

    Hi All,
    Can someone please tell me, in brief, the steps to;
    1. Create a clone of a database?
    2. Rename an existing Database?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
    1. Create a clone of a database?
You can use RMAN Duplicate and if you have access to metalink you can find tons of documents and notes for cloning
    2. Rename an existing Database?
Here is stepwise procedure to rename existing database.
    1. Take full backup (RMAN, export or datapump)
    2. Stepwise instructions (Windows but it should very similar for unix/linux as well).
    Edit tnsnames.ora entry

  • How can we clone the Oracle database in new Oracle Home

    Hi,
I would like to clone oracle database into new oracle home. How can we set it using OEM.
I am using 10g grid control. Target db is on solaris
    Thanks
    Naveen

after logging into target database, under maintenance tab, data movement header; ther is "clone database" option. When you click on it; you'll see :
Clone Database uses RMAN to duplicate a database from:
-- An open database in ARCHIVELOG mode, or
-- An open database in NOARCHIVELOG mode (restart required), or
-- A saved working directory from previous cloning
Clone Database performs the following operations:
-- Backup each database file and store it in a working directory
-- Transfer each backup file from source to destination host
-- Restore each backup file to existing destination Oracle Home
-- Recover the cloned database with saved archived log files
-- Open the cloned database with resetlogs
It seems to be for cloning to a different host, but i guess you can chose the same host for source and destination. (I've never used cloning on em by the way :))
But firstly, you should create a new oracle home, you can simply copy your oracle home with a new name (cp -R /oracle/app/oracle/product/10.2.0 /oracle/app/oracle/product/10.2.0.new) or make a new installation.
I suggest you to do this cloning with CLI. You should take a full backup with RMAN, copy the oracle home, create a new initNEWSID.ora file and nomount the database, restore (or simply copy) controlfiles, restore database (with set newname commands), recover database, open resetlogs.

  • Cloning Oracle Applications Release 12 with Rapid Clone

    Hi,
I was going through metalink doc 406982.1 Cloning Oracle Applications Release 12 with Rapid Clone.
    I couldn't understand a few points.
I would appreciate if someone can guide me regarding the following queries.
There is a statement in the doc
1)An important principle in Oracle Applications cloning is that the system is cloned, rather than the topology ....
--What is meant by topology in this description?
2)The Cloning methodology posted on this document requires full Autoconfig complience.
    --didn't get this point.
3)Note: In the copying tasks below, UNIX/Linux users should ensure that the symbolic links (soft links) are preserved when copying. On most UNIX platforms, this can be accomplished with the cp -RH command. Consult the UNIX man page for the cp command to check the parameters available on your platform.

Although there were neither failures nor any ORA- error in any of the log files.
Please guide what needs to be done regarding the shown errors for the patches.
after executing adpreclone on db tier I got the following message in logfile.
error while preclone on db tier:Attempt to remove existing adcrdb.zip failed
    What could have been wrong?
Is the message normal and can it be safely ignored?
    As a pre-install task of patch 9239089,I executed adgrantsall.sql
which gave me a prompt Enter a value for 1:
    I entered apps (apps schemaname/username)
    Is it ok?

  • Cloning Oracle Applications Release 11i

    Hi,
for Cloning Oracle Applications Release 11i , is it ncessary to copy jre, oui and oraInventory directories from source database tier file system to trget ?
    Many thanks before.

Applications / EBS is discussed in this category http://forums.oracle.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=11 (and there are more, if you look at the forums home page)
But, in general the oraInventory must exist to be able to patch or otherwise maintain the installation. Wouldn't think copying directories is a supported cloning method... Again, check with the proper forum. And use the Search function!
