Close panel by clicking tab panel?
Is there a way to make a panel close by clicking on the open
panel's tab instead of clicking on another panel's tab?
Hi,
I saw you are using Spry 1.4. The reason is not working for
you is that in Spry 1.4 we had a bug when using variable panel
heights and default panel :)
This bug is fixed on Spry 1.5. To get the new accordion
files, please download the Spry.15 package from labs site and
replace the css and js files for your site. It should work.

Spry tabbed panels, opening a tabbed panel, problem with IE
i've have made a site, with tabbed panels,
all the pages are made of a template;
everythings works fine; in Firefox and Opera,
but only in IE when i open a tabbed panel from a menubar, the contents is opened behind my header location;
i've used spry 1.6.1 and spryUtils to open the tabbed panel.
because there no other posibilty to open a tabbed panel from my other page.
i've tested the site on CSS and all, and i've don't get any errors.
this site is only on our intranet, and DVD;
so is not a online site
i' dont have anything modified in the java script.
just changed some minor adjustments to the CSS of the tabbed panels
The page is containing a fixed footer and header, FOR all browsers therefore is the CSS IE hacks also.
and all other functions work normal.
i'm only a beginner at this

Two or more spry sliding panels nested in tabbed panels?
Hi
I have a tabbed panel widget on one page. Inside the first
tab I inserted a sliding panel widget. Now this works fine.
I put another sliding panel widget into the second panel.
I changed the div id ( <div id="panelwidget2"
class="SlidingPanels"> ) and placed a second variable at the end
of the code ( var sp2 = new
Spry.Widget.SlidingPanels("panelwidget2"); ) But the second sliding
panel doesn't work and Dreamweaver highlights <div
id="panelwidget2" class="SlidingPanels"> as invalid code.
What do I do wrong?
Here's the code of the page:

Horizontal Tabbed Panel Inside Vertical Tabbed Panel
Hello!
I am new to web coding and in dreamweaver I would like to place a horizontal spry tabbed panel as the content of a vertical spry tabbed panel. I guess you could call it a nesting a tabbed panel. However, when I place the horizontal panel in the content area, it takes the form of a vertical panel. Any thoughts?
Here is a live page of the issue: http://andrewpapp.com/baseballprofile.html
and here is the code:
http://www.andrewpapp.com/html.txtHi Newbie,
I say this through gritted teeth because I think you have done far better than just a newbie, even to the extent that you have given correct advice to Jennigje Galama.
To get to your problem, have a look at the following example

What the vertical tabs does, is override the style rules of the normal (horizontal) tabs. Thats OK, but if we then want horizontal tags, we must resurrect the orginal style rules. We must also make sure that we choose the selectors carefully unless we want to rewrite the JavaScript file.
I think the above approach is probably the best,
Keep up the good work.
Gramps -
I have two questions about changing the behavior of the SPRY
tabbed-panel widget that come with CS3 DW. For those very familiar
with this widget the answers should be easy.
1) Is it possible to close all tabs and have each panel of a
tab open only when its tab is clicked?
2) In a similar light, is it possible to inactivate the
panels of certain tabs, so that their respective tabs can be used
as buttons to effectuate other kinds of behavior, such as closing
any tab that has been left open.
If you can answer affirmatively to any of the above
questions, please point me in the direction I need to go in order
to achieve my goal.Hello. Thank you for responding to my delima.
I have "did" as you suggested. Except I see some code after my link href that is not included in yours.
See the page at www.AmericanContractorsExchange.com Now the upper "collapsable panel remains open and the tab is not in a closed state..

1) Is it possible to close all tabs and have each panel of a tab open only when its tab is clicked?
Have a look at the following example
.hidden
Tab 2
Content 1
Content 2
var TabbedPanels1 = new Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels("TabbedPanels1");
Spry.$$("li.TabbedPanelsTab").addEventListener("click", MyOnClickHandler, false);
function MyOnClickHandler(e) {
Spry.$$("div.TabbedPanelsContentGroup").removeClassName("hidden");
return false;
2) In a similar light, is it possible to inactivate the panels of certain tabs, so that their respective tabs can be used as buttons to effectuate other kinds of behavior, such as closing any tab that has been left open.
Have a look at the spry Element Selector http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/articles/element_selector/

Tabbed panels repeat region in cms displays 2nd item as a block of content
Hi everyone, hope someone can help:
I have a test page live
http://aegmotorhomes.co.uk/usedtest1.php
Problem is this-
I have added a repeat region on my dreamweaver template
I use Perch CMS as my management for staff to add new items for sale on this page
I have built a tabbed panels to list the item
On my CMS it allows me to press "add another" which then adds the tabbed panels again as a new item and the staff input the details
My problem is the first item works perfect and all tabbs work fine, each item after that doesn't have tabbs and shows all content as one whole block
I think it is to do with the ID and applies the java file only to item one, thats my guess.
I have attached code below for my tabbed panels template, .js file and .css file - can anyone shed any light on this issue"

I did read this but don't know where to start: http://www.webdevforums.com/showthread.php?27428-Dreamweaver-spry-collapsible-panel-amp-re peating-regions
Can anybody HELP PLEASE PLEASEI think I counted three tabbed panels in the markup, each with an ID of TabbedPanels1
You have only one constructor that makes one instance of the tabeed panels with an ID of TabbedPanels1
There are a couple of things that create the problem.
There can only be one ID with the same name in a document, thus the ID's of the TabbedPanels will need to change from TabbedPanels1 for the second and third instances to TabbedPanels2 and TabbedPanels3 (or similar) respectively.
There needs to be a constructor for each tabbed panels like
var TabbedPanels1 = new Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels("TabbedPanels1");
var TabbedPanels2 = new Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels("TabbedPanels2");
var TabbedPanels3 = new Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels("TabbedPanels3");
Gramps -
Open my site, dg-ad.com, and the tabbed panel drop down menu has the first level visible. Click on a menu item and the second level becomes visible. The second level has a Spry fade effect so it fades into view nicely. The class .TabbedPanelContent sets the visibilty of the second layer hidden, and there is no distracting flicker, good so far.
Besides clicking on menu item I often send clients a link with a string query which lands them on my site with the tabbed panel open to what I want them to see initially., I use a string query in the URL per Dave Powers technique often refered to in this forum titled'Spry: Opening Specific Tabs and Panels from Another Page".
Because the visibility is set to hidden in the CSS the second level of the tabbed panel is still invisible, So I am looking for suggestions that may involve scripting the style or playing with the CSS to overide the CSS and make the second level visible when users arrive via the query string method.
Thanks for taking a look!
DanielFor Spry 1.0 widgets, each widget had one core file. Each of them had common things like addClassName(), removeClassname(), along with a bunch of basic functionality. So that adds up to a lot of redundant code.
This way, all that common stuff is kept in a single file. That means that each widget base class just has what it needs to glue everything together.
Many widgets are 'panel' based: accordions, tabbed panels, slideshows. So handling those panels is done via the PanelSet and PanelSelector files.
You will find SpryTabbedPanels2.js much smaller than the first version.
By components, for instance: SpryFadingPanels.js is only needed if you want to fade between panels. If you don't want that effect, you don't need to use it. WIth components and plugins, you or anyone else can write a different transition and make that available to all your Spry UI widgets.
I don't like all the includes either but it's the right way to go with what we are doing.
Thanks,

Spry Validation in Tabbed Panel
I've created a form that has a number of sections which I
have separated out using a spry tabbed panel. So far, so good.
On one of the panels, however, is a select box that is
required, so I have used a spry validation widget to look after it.
Now, if the select box hasn't been used then and the submit button
is clicked while one of the other panels is open, because the
validation widget halts the form it makes it look as though nothing
has happened. The warning message is only visible when the correct
panel is open.
My question is this: how do I either (a) force the panel with
the error on to reopen or (b) make the error message show up
elsewhere on the page so that it is visible? I tried positioning it
absolutely above the whole panel but it still only shows up when
the relevant panel is oen.I have actually added multiple tabbed panels inside of tabbed
panels as well as collapsible panels inside of tabbed panels and
vise versa. This works across all browsers (IE 6 & 7, FF 2,
Safari 2 & 3).
The key for me was to use <div style="clear: both"> (I
put a comment here to satisfy IE6) </div> at the bottom of
the tab, before the closing of the tab since I was using a lot of
floating within the tabbed panels.
If you share some code, I'm sure someone could give you a
more specific answer. -
Using Srpy tabbed panels with slidding panels
I am very new to spry and so I am still just figuring it all
out. How I found it was I wanted a tabbed panel like the one on the
IBM website. Anyway, I am trying to
use the tabbed panels with the sliding panels and it just does not
seem to be working. I found
this
tutorial and followed the codes but it still only works as just the
tabbed panels - nothing has changed at all. Can someone tell me
what I might be doing wrong? I am attaching both my html and css
code for you to inspect.

specifically about using widgets and effects together.

Multi page recordset output from ASP page on Spry Tabbed Panel Widget
I am using a simple Spry Tabbed panel set on my asp page to show the output from different ASP pages, inside the tabbed panels. The tabbed panels on the page under consideration (destination page) display the output from different asp pages (source pages). The source asp pages generate multi page outputs which are paginated on the source page itself and pagination links are displayed on the source page itself.
However, we dont want to display the source page outside of the tabbed panel, but instead the output content from the source asp pages should show inside the tabbeed panels only. The first page generated by the source asp page displays correctly inside the tabbed panel. However, when the user clicks on the links for the next page generated by the source asp page, but which is being displayed inside the destination page tabbed panel, they dont display the next page inside the tabbed panel. Instead the source asp page displays the output outside the tabbed panel destination page.
Please advise on how to ensure that the user can page through the recordset generated by the source asp page by clicking on the pagination links at the bottom of the records, while ensuring that the output displays within the tabbed panels on the destination asp page.
I am enclosing the source code being used to generate the spry tabbed panel widget and also updating it with the output from the source asp page. In this case, the code given below is from the main page containing the widget and the source asp page is "sample.asp", which generates multi page output.
Please note that I am not too keen on using xml data sets output from the source asp page, but would be more comfortable with directly using the asp pages to fill the tabbed panel content.

The solution would probably be first required to be tried using ajax on any div tab.
Then the same code would have to be used on Sprytabbed panel. Hence, the following may be advised:
1. Sample code for server side pagination and displaying inside any div tag and refreshing it using ajax. the update link would also lie inside the div tag which would show the next/ previous page without reloading the page.
2. Then adapting the refresh technique using ajax in the Spry Tabbed panel using the inbuilt updatecontent method of the Spry Tabbed panels.
In order to achieve the above, I am getting the recordset output in the tab content as expected. The recordset is also getting the pagination links from server side asp as required.
However, it is also generating the following error.

I creat a new page ( a simple page...):
http://dev.achab.it/test/test.htm
Our web-graphics are insert into
<script type="text/javascript" src="../common/js_func/parameters.js"></script>
the SpryTabbedPanels.js scripts.
On the new simple, you can click to 4 Tabs on the left.
If you want to see the 5 or 6 content tab you can click the label into the 3 or 5 content tab.
When you click on the label "here" on the 3° Tab (for example), you can see the content change and the "Tab 3" is not selected.
I'd like to change the content and leave the "Tab 3" selected.
I hope in your help :-)
thank in advance

Spry tabbed panels - question about hover
Hello, I am relatively new to Dreamweaver and Spry, but have made a website using vertical Tabbed Panels that finally looks ALMOST like I want it. I am sure that I have done some things that could be much simpler though…
http://web.me.com/marinka9170/JL_test/JL_test.html
My problem is that I would like the tabs to stay in their hover state (so coloured and wider) when you navigate to the content panel (until you hover over the next tab of course), instead of going back to their standard grey. How do I do that?
And my other question is: in the content panels I have used custom bullets. Is there a way to assign a different custom bullet for each content panel? Do I number the content panels, like I have done with the tabs?
Any hints, tips, solutions are appreciated!
Thanks,
MarinkaI indeed see that your example works, but I think in my code there is some sort of conflict going on
I have copied the Source Code and the SpryTabbedPanels.ccs below and 'bolded' the parts where I think the problem is. It is probably in splitting the different tabs in 5, right?
I am sorry for asking these stupid questions. It's all quite new to me, but I've ordered a book to study more. It's just not in yet
Thanks again for your help! Really appreciate it!
Marinka

Tabbed Panel using UpdateContent doesn't properly display spry .html page
Quick question. I have a tabbed panel widget with 12 tabs.
I'm using the UpdateContent snippet to pull in .html pages per tab.
when I have straight .html on the pages the content displays
without a problem.
What I need is for each tab to pull in an .html page that
contains a spry table that has an XML data set (think product page
with "next" and "prev" buttons to cycle through the content).
The .html page with the spry table works like a charm...on
it's own. however when I use it in conjunction with the tabbed
panel all I see is the bracketed code (i.e. {imgURL} {productName}
{SKU}) rather than [photo] large T-shirt SKU:1111.
A while ago I did an accordion that had dynamic content per
generated panel -- this utilized the Spry.Data.NestedXMLDataSet
function. A bit of a similar idea although I'm not sure if this
would also work with the tabbed panel.
Any suggestions would be helpful and I can drop the code if
that would also help. Thanks!well, what I have is:
index page with tabbed panel

content from first option .html page loads. this content has
a dataset repeating table.
The main page already had the SpryData.js and also
UpdateContent, as follows:
<div id="TabbedPanels1" class="VTabbedPanels">
<ul class="TabbedPanelsTabGroup">
<li class="TabbedPanelsTab" tabindex="0"

Let's say you clicked on the Siracusa tab. This would call up
siracusa.html, which has
<script src="SpryAssets/xpath.js"
type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="SpryAssets/SpryData.js"
type="text/javascript"></script>
<link href="../../ed_style.css" rel="stylesheet"
type="text/css" />
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
var fall08 = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("fall_collection.xml",
"collection/outfits", { filterFunc: MyPagingFunc });
fall08.setColumnType("photoURL", "image");
fall08.setColumnType("lrgphoto", "image");
var pageOffset = 0;
var pageSize = 1;
var pageStop = pageOffset + pageSize;
//var dsfall08 = new
Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("fall_collection.xml", "collection/outfits", {
filterFunc: MyPagingFunc });
function MyPagingFunc(ds, row, rowNumber)
if (rowNumber < pageOffset || rowNumber >= pageStop)
return null;
return row;
function UpdatePage(offset)
var numRows = fall08.getUnfilteredData().length;
if (offset > (numRows - pageSize))
offset = numRows - pageSize;
if (offset < 0)
offset = 0;
pageOffset = offset;
pageStop = offset + pageSize;
// Re-apply our non-destructive filter on dsStates1:
fall08.filter(MyPagingFunc);
-->
</script>
Sircusa Micro Crepe
<div spry:region="fall08">
<table>
<tr spry:repeatchildren="fall08">
<td colspan="5 "><img
src="imx/{photoURL}"/></td>
</tr>
<tr spry:repeatchildren="fall08">
<td><a href="imx/{lrgphoto}"
target="_blank">enlarge</a></td>
<td>{SKU1}</td>
<td>{SKU2}</td>
<td>{SKU3}</td>
<td>{name}</td>
<td>{desc}</td>
</tr>
</table>
<input type="button" value="Prev"
onclick="UpdatePage(pageOffset - pageSize);" />
<input type="button" value="Next"
onclick="UpdatePage(pageOffset + pageSize);" />
</div>
siracusa.html works more than fine. pulls in the photo, link,
SKU and info without any problem.
When you're on the base page with the tabbed panel the only
thing that comes up are the bracketed info, i.e. {SKU} {SKU1}
{SKU2}.
What I need help with is actually having the pulled in data
table (in the various tabbed panel content areas) actually then
populate the repeat regions rather than just showing the
code... -
I am quite surprised this made it through QA .. Try creating
a tabbed panel in a tabbed panel. Then in the embedded panel,
create an onclick link to a parent's tab. It is 100%
ignored.http://www.3rd-eden.com/Spry-it.com/examples/nested%20tabs/
Reproduced your test case as described above, no problems
occurs. I placed a onclick on tab 1, and on tab 1 of the nested
tab.
Are u using the latest version? correct constructors? -
Hi all:
I have tabbed panels nested in tabbed panels and i would like
to link from another page to one of the nested tabs. The code I
have the link is: ?tab=8#TabEditAthlete1?tab=3#TabCommunity1 but
that doesn't work.
i also tried ?tab=8#TabEditAthlete1&tab=3#TabCommunity1
and that doesn't work either.
Any suggestions?
thanks!url params: ?tab1=1&tab2=3
get the params:
var params = Spry.Utils.getLocationParamsAsObject();
normal = tab1
var TabbedPanels1 = new
Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels("TabbedPanels1", {defaultTab:(params.tab1
? params.tab1 : 0)});
nested = tab2
var TabbedPanels2 = new
Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels("TabbedPanels1", {defaultTab:(params.tab2
? params.tab2: 0)});
