Clustered Reports 9i Servers

Hi,
Trying to setup two reports 9i servers in a cluster (NodeA.repserv and NodeB.repserv) but having some problems getting them to sync.
The servers are installed on seperate mid-tiers on the same subnet.
Having problems with one server creating a job and the other trying to present it, but because they are using their own caches either a wrong report or an error results.
Getting some confusing information researching MetaLink.
Wondering if anyone knows:
Do I need a central cache for the servers?
How do I get both reports servers in sync as far as job_id generation?
TIA,
Jim

  • Accessing clustered report servers from Forms

    Hi
The "Oracle Fusion Middleware Publishing Reports to the Web with Oracle Reports Services 11g R2 (11.1.2)" manual in Section 2.5 talks about setting up a High Availability environment for Reports.
It discusses how to set the cluster configuration and how to create a reports job repository in the database. It says that you need to have a unique name for each report server, finally it says that you should use Oracle Web Cache to load balance for the reports cluster.
If you are calling the report server from Forms with a run_report_object then you don't go via the web cache, so I am confused how you send your report request to the reports cluster in a load balanced fashion.
Has anyone done this or can explain how this works for Forms?
    TIA
    Tony

I know that this is an old thread, but I've taken the liberty to bump it up, as I have the same question.
The Reports documentation describes quite succinctly how to configure the report servers to be clustered - no problem there.
The issue is that when you run a report from forms using run_report_object, you are required to specify a report server name. The Reports docs specify that all of the server names must be unique, so this seems to indicate that you cannot use a clustered report server environment from Forms, or am I missing something somewhere? Oh, wait - an insight coming here - Can you (I'll test this, but it would be good to know) specify a cluster name instead of an actual report server name? Google to the rescue:
Using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT: If the call specifies a Reports Server cluster name instead of a Reports Server name, the reports_servermap environment variable must be set in the Oracle Forms Services default.env file. If your Oracle Forms application uses multiple Reports Server cluster names, you can map each of those cluster names to a different Reports Server using reports_servermap in rwservlet.properties, as follows:
There's the answer. Sometimes writing the question down helps figure out the answer :)

  • Clustering Report Server on 10g

    Hi,
I have one machine installed infrastructure and Middle Tier. I have created a manual report server and it works fine but when the load is more is take more time. I want to create report servers with clusters option. How do i create cluster report does it need 2 server or it is ok with one server.
    Regards

    Hi Martin,
Well we are trying to run a report without exactly specifying the name of reports server anywhere, e.g. in database or in form or anywhere else. Now if I do not supply a reports server name using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT, the error it displays is FRM-41211: Integration Error : SSL failure ... However if I specify the reports server name in the form, the reports run perfect. Also the name of reports server is specified in rwservlet.properties.
Now the question goes as follows:
Can I run my report from Form without specifying the name of the Reports server anywhere at all. This is so because either an in-process reports server should be picked or the one which is entered in rwservlet.properties should be pickec up by default. Please correct us if we are wrong. once we are through with it, we have to move to Oracle 10gR2 concept of reports server.
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Ruchi/Saurabh

  • Clusters Report Services and Firewall in compination.

Hi I setup OAS with Report services in two different machines A and B.Those machines use
    UNIX as OS.
I also created two member cluster services with the script
rwserver.sh -install rep1.srvcluster batch=yes in the first machine
rwserver.sh -install rep21.srvcluster batch=yes in the second machine
I also created the public key and the private key files in the machine A and I install
them in the machine B and I put then in the corresponding configuration files(ORACLE_HOME\reports\conf\server_name.cluster_name.conf).
Both machine A and B are in the same network(dmz)
When I have requests from some form which calls the report I tested when the service from
machine A is on and the service of machine B is stop works ok.The only possibility
don't work is if both services from A , B are down.
My question is where I found Oracle documentation for creating cluster report services
in compination with firewall for the machines in which the clusters create. In our case
for both machines A and B
    Thanks in advance Panos.

    panos,
i am not quite clear what your question is. what kind of information are you looking for ? what is the exact problem in your environemnt ? also please specify exact platform and version of reports you are using.

  • One Report, Two Servers, Debugging

I have a report that uses multi-select parameters.
It is deployed on two SSRS 2008 R2 Report Servers.
It will run on one but not other.
Are there any kinds of SSRS 2008 R2 debugging tools to find out what is the difference between the two servers?
It may be an ODBC driver but I am not sure.
    Thank you.

First we need to identify what is generating the error on the one server. This error occurs when you pass too much for a given data type. For instance, on one server an int parameter value that is generated from a SQL query might result in a bigint value
that overflows the int data type. Or a string passed to a char(10) might exceed 10 characters while it does not on the other server.
What is the query text where these 2 parameters are used?
If you remove these parameters from the data set filter, will the report run without the error?
If so, what are the values for these 2 parameters? (add 2 text boxes to the report to display the parameter values using Join(Parameters!Parameter1.Value,"; "))
Then we need to determine why it is not happening on the other.
Why is it deployed to 2 servers? Is it connecting to different data sources?
What is the difference between the two servers where it is deployed.

  • Multi block report in clustered report server environment on web

Hi, I have a complex report that runs on web through web_show_document. There are two report servers configured as primary and slave. The report has two query blocks. When executed on this environment, the first query block is executed on the primary and the 2nd on the slave. Thus generating two different reports. While when there is only one report server(slave stopped) the report runs fine.
My reqirement is to execute this report on one server. Can anybody guide in resolving this..

  • Custom reports for servers managed by administrators

    Hi,
I'm trying to create a report using the report builder but I need some helps. First I have added the attribute "Managedby" in my system discovery method.
Now i want to create a report that display the server name, the OS, and the managed by attribute. How can I do that ?
    any helps ?

Here are few links that should get you started with reporting:
    http://www.scconfigmgr.com/2014/01/24/create-custom-reports-for-configmgr-2012-with-report-builder/
    https://sccmgeekdiary.wordpress.com/2012/10/29/sccm-2012-reporting-for-dummies-creating-your-own-ssrs-reports/
Basically you need to find out where the ManagedBy -data is stored, probably in v_R_System like noted here:

  • FIM Reporting, 3 servers needed?

    Hi all,
Very short question. For FIM 2010R2 reporting you need 2 additional components:
    -SCSM Dataware house server
    -SCSM Management
I know we can't install SCSM & Dataware house on the same server. Is the following topology supported:?
    Server1: SCSM Dataware house
Server2: FIM Service, Portal and SCSM Management
Or do I need another server(let's say Server3) dedicated for SCSM Management?
    Kind regards.

  • Dsadm reports running servers as stopped

We were recently migrating an old setup onto somewhat newer platform, and found a piece of strange behavior: "dsadm info" reports both "dsins1" and "ads" instances as stopped, even though they are running. This happens both when they are integrated into SMF and not, 32-bit and 64-bit mode.
    Platform: DSEE 6.3.1_sec, Solaris 10u8 x86_64
    Because of this:
    1) DSCC refuses to work (thinks ADS is down); likewise "dsccsetup status" returns incorrect "stopped" result (no surprise - I trussed that it calls dsadm for the status query).
    2) SMF refuses to start - "dsadm start" quits instantly, though it spawns a working LDAP instance. It is however possible to force SMF to work properly by setting it up to call $INSTANCE_PATH/start-slapd and stop-slapd as SMF methods.
    3) subsequent calls to "dsadm start" while the server is running don't detect that it exists, and the program removes the "invalid" pid file from the instance's logs directory. This makes further stop/restarts more tricky.
Also found that the start/stop scripts rely too much on pid files and don't inspect SMF_FMRI (or the service instance mentioned in $INSTANCE_PATH/config/state), so absent pid-files lead to misdiagnozed errors with default scripts. That is not difficult to fix, however...
Access rights seem normal, as compared to other similar systems. Old installation (cloned onto new VM and live-updated) did not show such behaviour...
So far I failed to truss anything reasonable out of this... any ideas, short of re-installation (which I'll try in another zone of the same box soon anyway)?
    Thanks,

Edited by: JimKlimov on Feb 14, 2013 11:36 PM

It seems that the problem was somehow because the server was installed in a 32-bit VM, and migrated onto a newer host capable of running the 64-bit VMs, so Solaris switched to that. While there were no actual problems with database files, source architecture seems to have got recorded there and confused some verifier routines?
I tested that a newly-made DS instance works as expected. Its start/stop scripts referenced "amd64" in the paths, but changing original dsins scripts accordingly did not help.
Ultimately, data and configs were exported from original instance, which was then destroyed. New instance remade in its place and data reimported again and replications reconfigured and customizations (plugins, acls) reapplied, and all works like it should now. Rinse and repeat for siblings in the MMR cluster.

  • Restoration of ASM/RAC database to another clustered set of servers for DataGuard implementation

    Hi all,
I've been working with single instance Oracle DBs for several years and we're now looking into RAC. I'm trying to gather as much info as possible in areas I think may be challenging if/when we implement RAC.
Can someone please help me with some info with regards to the scenarion below:
Assuming I already have a 2 node RAC database running and I want to set-up a failover RAC database, would the following steps be correct(assuming 11g):
Configure hardware, networking and O/S for 2 node RAC cluster (I know there's a lot in this single line, but let's just assume that's all done)
    Configure disks for ASM
    Clusterware installation
    Oracle ASM software installation
Oracle11g software installation with RAC option
    Database creation
***I'm not sure of the steps after database creation:
Export primary database up to a specific SCN (data pump gives the ability to specify scn)
    Import into failover database
Switch on dataguard and sync failover starting from scn specified at export.
Please, help correct these steps and any useful link where this process is treated thoroughly would be highly appreciated.

This is a very high level overview of the steps, but here are some additions/amendments I can make:
    Clusterware installation
    Oracle ASM software installation
-- The above 2 steps are done at the same time. In 11g, the Oracle 11g Grid Infrastructure includes both the Clusterware and ASM installation and configuration.
Oracle11g software installation with RAC option
    Database creation
***I'm not sure of the steps after database creation:
Export primary database up to a specific SCN (data pump gives the ability to specify scn)
    Import into failover database
Switch on dataguard and sync failover starting from scn specified at export.
Will you be using Data Guard for a physical standby? If so, using RMAN would be the correct method in creating the standby database. The general steps would be:
    - Oracle 11g software installation
    - Backup Primary Database
    - Configure Data Guard Parameters on Primary
    - Duplicate Primary to Standby RAC using RMAN (can be done manually or through the RMAN DUPLICATE command)
    - Enable log transport from primary, enable managed recovery on standby, and verify log transport and apply is working as intended.
Again this is a very general overview on the entire process, there are other factors that you'll have to take into consideration when planning such a project:
    - Which protection mode will you be using? Maximum Performance, Availability, or Protection? The business' recovery goals and SLAs will be able to determine which mode you will choose.
    - Will the standby be used for reporting purposes?
    - Recommended to have your standby site have the same hardware configuration as the primary.
    - Do you have an EM site already set-up? Data Guard Broker should be considered in the configuration of the Data Guard environment.
This is just a few things quickly off the top of my head. What OS do you have/plan on using? I don't have the link handy on me at the moment, but the official Oracle documentation should provide detailed guidance.
    EDIT:
At a bare minimum, read the 2 Day RAC Guide. There is more detailed information in the RAC Admin and Deployment Guide, as well as the Data Guard Concepts and Admin Guide. Also here's a step-by-step guide provided by Oracle. You can also find several blogs that provide a more concise step-by-step guide, such as here, here, and here. RACSIG also has a number of very useful whitepapers, but something seems to be wrong with their search function and I can't link anything at the moment. However, I would highly recommend reading through the official documentation as this has more comprehensive information, especially if you are deploying on a production system.

    Oscar

  • How can you remove clustering between two BO XI 3.1 Servers

    Hi,
Servers A and B have been clustered before and because we have done so many changes to each of the servers, we thought of uninstalling everything from both servers and reinstall BO XI 3.1 server on each.
Installed BO XI 3.1 server on Server A, applied SP2 and this worked fine.
Installed BO XI 3.1 server on Server B, applied SP2 and this worked fine too.
We performed the installation using most of the default settings e.g. port number on both servers (nothing on setting them up as clusters).
However, when we checked the Settings on both CMCs of our BO XI 3.1Servers, there was information under the Cluster Tab as follows and these were on both servers' CMCs:
    CMS Name: ServerA.cms (ServerA.ourdomain:6400)
    Cluster Name: @ServerB.ourdomain:6400
    Cluster Members:
    ServerA.cms (ServerA.ourdomain:6400)
    ServerB.CentralManagementServer (ServerB.ourdomain:6400)
Question: How can we remove clustering from both servers (we do not want it in the first place and we did not think we set it up when we reinstalled BO XI 3.1 on each).
    Hope someone can help us.
    Thanks.

This is the high level procedure.
    1. STOP SIA on the server to be removed say X.
    2. Delete all the servers that belong to X from CMC.
    3. Delete the SIA on X and un-install.
There are some key points to watch out for- you can check the admin guide..but at a high level this is the process i have followed in the past.

  • Need recommendation - iis with two physical servers and clusters

    Hello,
I was hoping to get a recommendation/opinion or two on the configuration I've inherited. I'm looking
at the following configuration using weblogic 8.1 sp4 server (to be upgraded to sp6) running on two physical machines:
    MachineA:
    Domain: myDomain
    Cluster: cluster1
Servers: Admin Server:9001 (not part of cluster)
    ManagedServer1:7001
    ManagedServer2:7010
    MachineB:
    Domain: myDomain
    Cluster: cluster2
Servers: Admin Server:9001 (not part of cluster)
    ManagedServer3:7001
    ManagedServer4:7010
On MachineA: IIS Proxy Plugin with parameter in .ini file
    WeblogicCluster: MachineA:7001, MachineA:7010, MachineB:7001,MachineB7010
Naturally, the IIS is acting as a round robin load balancer..
The domains were created using the wizard on both machines and basic domain template..
For proper failover to be taken advantage of, does something different need to be configured? Or is it fine?
And if so, does group replication have something to do with it?
Should either of the clusters be Managed Servers across physical machines?
or should this just be one cluster of 4 managed servers across two machines?
I really am not sure on any of this, even though i've read through much of the documentation for clustering..twice.
I should mention that there is only a .war file deployed with 4 connection pools and 4 Data Sources..No EJBs or JMS
Would really appreciate any feedback or opinions/advice..
    Thanks

    This is what I'd do
    MachineA:
    Domain: myDomain
    Cluster: cluster1
Servers: Admin Server:9001 (not part of cluster)
    ManagedServer1:7010
    ManagedServer2:7020
    MachineB:
    Domain: myDomain
    Cluster: cluster2
Servers: Admin Server:9001 (not part of cluster)
    ManagedServer3:8010
    ManagedServer4:8020
I just changed the port numbers so they flow and have a pattern - 70* port numbers belong to cluster 1, 80* port numbers belong to cluster 2. No technical benefit apart from it makes it tidier in my opinion.
Port 9001 for the admin server is normally the domain wide admin port - you could be using that, so that's fine, but my admin server is running 7001.
You also only need one admin server per domain, this can run on MachineA
Replication groups are used to help WLS figure out where to place the secondary http session. It will try servers on a different machine/replication group first, if none available, it will create secondary on the same machine.
What you will end up with is a domain with 4 managed servers in it. The admin server will run on machineA, say using port 7001, each of the managed servers will contact the admin server to download it's config.
The cluster1 will contain 2 managed servers and the same for cluster2.
providing you have your cluster multicast addresses set up and the cluster is working, that should be all you need to do for the session failover.
There's some BEA sample code somewhere which will deploy a web-app and show which managed server you've attached to. If you find that and then connect through IIS, shut down the server that the JSP tells you, you should be able to see the session fail-over nicely.
    Hope that helps,
    Pete
