CMS and NWCE 7.2 - large source archive import failed.

Good day, I ma trying to import a large source to the CMS and it failes with an error:Communication error [cause: number of bytes written to stream less than specified limit.]:Communication error [cause: number of bytes written to stream less than specified limit.]
com.tssap.dtr.client.lib.deltavlib.CommunicationException: Communication error [cause: number of bytes written to stream less than specified limit.]
I found the solution to the NW 7.0 where I have to change the MaxRequestContentLength value. But there is no Visual Admnistrator in CE7.2 so I can find the way to do it.
Could someone give a clue how to get rid of an error?

Configuration -> System Properties -> <SID> -> Global dispatcher configuration -> Services -> http.

Makepkg and incorrect file extension of the source archive

I want to create a PKGBUILD for a program distributed as a .tar.gz source archive, except that it's really a .tar archive.
Thus, makepkg fails because it uses the wrong tar option.
Now I'm wondering what the best way is to deal with this situation. I just tried placing a "mv foo.tar.gz foo.tar" line before the build() function, but that didn't get executed. Inside build() would be too late, because makepkg runs it after extracting.
I'm not looking for a solution on how to install it -- I can just manually download and rename the file, then edit the PKGBUILD accordingly. But the PKGBUILD resp. makepkg should cope with that, not the user by manually downloading/renaming things. So I'm looking for a way how to do that from inside that file.
Guess I should do a feature request: makepkg should detect the archive file correctly (e.g. using "file"), not just by looking at the extension which could be wrong.

CMS and Audit DB: DBA Tips

Anyone seen any good blogs, whitepapers, or other info on tuning the CMS and Audit DB? I am looking for info on things a DBA should consider in keeping the DBs in tip top and good performing shape. For example, is there ever a reason to partition tables? When does it make sense to run statistics, if ever? What settings would optimize thruput? High availability considerations? Basically, the types of things a DBA should consider in a large enterprise environment for a BOBJ system that has been running for years or will be running for years? As a consultant, we usually set our customers up and then we rarely revisit this sort of topic. It says something for the stability and design that it rarely needs consideration. But it would be nice to have some valid and vetted sources of information to educate DBAs tasked with keeping these databases in top shape. Its simple to say that you would do the same things you would do for any other database but when you consider an encrypted CMS, etc. its not necessarily clear what is safe and what is not safe in this department. Also, what you as DBAs (if looking) do to keep an eye on things and make sure I/O is ok, you give enough threads, account for growth and increased usage, etc. I can certainly come up with some basics but I have decided to open up a discussion to see what others are doing.

1 account is fine, we consolidate all the time from older docs that used to indicate more than 1.
The primary advantage of using multiple is that when logging on the DB, or other you can see which process is hitting it. Since only yhe CMs would hit either the CMS DB or auditing DB then it really shouldn't matter.

CMS Check and import failed

Hi All,
We have created a track in CMS. When do the Import-check of SCAs, we are getting "Check-failed".
Foll. are the SCAs
sap.com_SAP-JEE
sap.com_SAP_BUILDT
sap.com_SAP_JTECHS
When we are trying to import, then we are getting the message "Import-failed".
Log file shows the foll. message
Fatal :check failed, because the sources are not contained in the archive
Info   :Step Repository-check ended with result 'fatal error' ,stopping execution

let me summarize the possible reasons for the error
Fatal :check failed, because the sources are not contained in the archive
Info   :Step Repository-check ended with result 'fatal error' ,stopping execution
First of all an SCA file can be either used for modification by customers, or not, becaues it has only build archives (meaning necessary for build -- like libraries, you can pretty much treat it that way).
An SCA can have 3 types of archives inside:
- buildarchives -- i.e. necessary for build
- deployarchives -- i.e. deployable
- sourcearchives -- i.e. can be modified by customers
What kind of archives we are dealing with you can decide easily:
rename the given SCA file to zip, and extract it (or simulate extraction using jar -tvf *.SCA).
It can contain 3 folder respectively: BUILDARCHIVES , DEPLOYARCHIVES, SOURCEARCHIVES
Meaning, if it has a SOURCEARCHIVES folder, it has sources to be modified.
Notice, none of the initially mentioned archives (SAPBUILDT, SAPJEE, SAPJTECHS) are having sourcearchives.
So then why this error is reported?
On the top of that ESS should have sourcearchives folder, then again, why is this error coming?
I come to this point immediatelly.
Now the error message we are talking about can have 2 reasons:
1. the archive should not have sources, but due to a wrong configuration it gets confused and reports this error.
2. the archive should have sources, but it was wrongly uploaded to the marketplace (i.e. wrong delivery)
Explanation on the above 2 points:
1. In CMS webui -- Landscape Configurator -- Track Data tab you checked in the checkboxes "Developed" for such software which is not allowed to be modified. In this example you have set the Developed flag for SAPBUILDT, SAPJEE, SAPJTECHS.
Now at import CMS expects that these SCAs have sources, but since they don't you run into this error. Solution is easy: get rid of those flags and import again. The imports will work this time.
2. You downloaded ESS, correctly added the "Develped" flag in the mentioned configuration, but the ESS SCA is wrongly uploaded by sap to the marketplace. This case report it to us so we can correct the SCA which you can download again. Report the exact location from where you downloaded it, so we are aware of the exact version and filename.

which is kinda weird, cause I thought that pax was the default archiver - from man pages:

Getting Error "too large to archive" while using Tar

Dear All,
I am getting below error while trying to use TAR to acrhive multiple files in one file:
<FileName> too large to archive
The file is of size 2 GB (there are other files with same capacitiy but i am not getting any error for them). Here is waht i am trying to acheive:
(1) Create one tar file from all files in a folder (using tar)
(2) compress the tar file (using compress)
(3) copy the compressed file to the tape (using tar)
One more question, when i use compress (or gzip) command, it create comressed files but original files are not preserved. For example; if i use compress for files a.txt & b .txt it creates a new file (say ab.Z) but removes the files a.txt and b.txt. Is there any option (or any other command) using which i can comress the files without getting them removed?

Thanks for your help. While trying to create tar file using gtar i am now getting below error:
No space left device
So appearantly i don't have enough free space on my file system on which i am trying to create two questions:
(1) Is it possible to compress the tar file resulting from gtar in one command (tar file creation + compress). I don't want files get removed after compression.
(2) Can we directly write to Tape Drive using gtar? Will the size of file resulting from gtar will be same as that of total size of all files or it will be less?

Transaction logs after large mailbox archive?

Hi all,
I've recently run a large mailbox archive on our mailbox database and I'm concerned about the transaction log files that will be produced.
Some info: We run a single Exchange server on Windows Server 2008, on a single hard disk. The system is run on VMWare with a full Exchange-aware backup run every night. Database file is currently 194GB with about 90GB whitespace.
I archived 20GB worth of email from a mailbox. My problem is that the hard disk with the database and log files on it only has 12GB of free space, so when the Recoverable Items folder is cleared 2 weeks later, is there going to be 20GB of transaction logs
with nowhere to go? Will I have to organise some additional storage to give the log files some room?

I notice that there only 12 GB free disk in your mailbox server, it may be too small.
Exchange will not generate much more transaction log when delete Recoverable Items, however it also not delete previous transaction log. Meanwhile, Exchange will generate new log when mail flow and move message to archive database, the size of transaction log
only grow. Therefore, I recommend to add additional disk or full backup for your database on schedule to truncated some unrequired logs.

I want to know the difference between CTS+ and CMS. Is there any additional advantage provided by CTS+ over CMS? Also what is the difference in the procedure to transport IR and ID objects in CMS and CTS+.

The Change and Transport System (CTS) is a tool that helps you to organize development projects in the ABAP Workbench and in Customizing, and then transport the changes between the SAP Systems in your system landscape.
The XI use case for CTS+ introduces a new transport handling mechanism that offers tighter integration for the transport of ABAP, Java, and Integration Builder objects (Integration Repository and Integration Directory) using the Change and Transport System (BC-CTS) functionality.

CMS is generally used to transport Java development objects. The XI Integration Server uses CMS to transport Integration Server content. When the Integration Server uses CMS to transport XI Content, no Component Build Service (CBS) or Design Time Repository (DTR) is used and can therefore be switched off. Incident 1. Since many months attempts to download new and updated APPs produced a response – Apple ID Disabled. I had no time to consult an APPLE Store due to work in distant lands. When I finally visited yesterday I was told that as my IPAD has been reported as stolen, and APPLE in its wisdom had blocked its usage! I am not sure how they became so misinformed and nobody every advised me while with a few swift moves APPLE could have located me by email address or SKYPE.
Incident 2. Once the above anomaly had been fixed I tried to down load a newspaper and diligently input my address, credit card number and personal data. Repeatedly I was advised that my Credit Card was invalid and my postal code was incorrect! Really!
I was left to guess that having moved from UK to the US I should have advised APPLE! Not being told of this requirement brought about a second visit to APPLE Store in the same day to waste both mine and their time with a routine anomaly. How parochial in the context of a globalized world!
In each case I tried to resolve the issues using online access to a help line and by calling by phone at the numbers on the APPLE Website. In each of four separate occasions I diligently went through the routine and ended up with a message that thanked me for contacting Apple followed by a polite ‘Good Bye’!
In desperation I went to an Apple Store for the second time in a day as it is close to where I live when I am not working. On both occasions I was courteously attended to by Apple Staff.
However, my work is usually far away from the US and it is generally many thousands of miles to the nearest Apple Store therefore online help is viewed as imperative if one is to resolve issues away from home.
Why can Apple not provide a clearly marked EMAIL address and Telephone number at a Help Desk with real people to respond to requests for help? It would cost nothing in relative terms and might restore my high level of anti-APPLE sentiment that these two recent events have provoked.

If that is your question, the answer is at the bottom right of this web page. It is clearly marked "Contact Us" and is the best way, really the only way, to contact Apple.
If there were a publicly posted email address for concerns such as yours, it would be quickly filled with spam in about three minutes, thereby becoming instantly useless to you and everyone else. Apple would need to change it hourly, if not more often. That is also the reason you ought not to post your name, location, and what appears to be your iPad's serial number on this publicly viewable website.
Apple does not respond here and I can find no other questions for your fellow Apple users to answer.

Hi I had to recover my SCCM media server from SQL and now having trouble to install Windows Update. When I deploy Windows Update, I can see status is "UKNOWEN".
I feel like something to do with WSUS/SQL/SCCM media server syncing issue.. But I can't point out that trouble setting to fix it. I have checked and make sure, there is no proxy setting in IE and SUP.
In the wsyscmgr.log is saying it is having syncing issue.

I saw someone use the following steps to fix this issue.
1. Unselect all Classisfications in SUP
2. Run wsusutil reset
3. Run another sync
4. Add Classifications

If you have been using the mac.com Apple ID to make iTunes purchases recently, then there should be no issues continuing to use it with the new iPhone. I would abandon the new ID as you will never get Apple to merge the two IDs. I have had a mac.com ID for years and continue to use it with my iPhone 4S.
