    Check out http://www.jspsmart.com , They have a nice free upload api that can be used w/ JSPs or Servlets. I hear O'Reilly has a nice one too. May as well use someone elses if they've done it already.

  • Getting a csv file in server from client

    Hi,
    This is my first mail to the forum. I hope some one would help me to find a solution for me. I got a xyz . csv file in my server. I want to get that file and save it in my client (anywhere)having the same file type. Gimme source code if you have. I am looking for a solution for the past two days.
    please reply me as soon as possible.
    To be more clear, I am having a save button in my page.On clicking this button i should fetch the file from server and save it in my desired location as a file itself not as text content or anything.
    Please help me
    Thanks in regards,
    S.karthik

    You can open the textfile on the servlet and then send the information to the client (applet) as stirngs. The must then applet convert the stirngs into some object or simply display the information in someway. But then the text file that you are opening must be stored in some relevant tomcat directory e.g. on the server. If you want to open a file on the clients computer, you get into signed applets.

  • Cannot acess file on server from client machine using java web start

    Hi everyone,
    I am creating an appication using JWS and Apache Web Server version 2.0.54 on Linux. I am trying to access a file on the server that IS NOT inside the jar file. I have given full access (r, w, x) to all users on my server. We also created a FilePermission object and gave the file read and write access as well. But when we deploy the program and try to get this file, a SecurityException is thrown with the following mesage:
    acess denied (java.io.FilePermission filename read) where filename is the file in our local filesystem. Any suggestions on what I can do?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Raj

    It sounds like you are trying to access the file as if your JNLP application were running on the server. The JNLP app is running on the client machine, so you will need to use a URL to open the file. Take a look at the JavaDocs for the following:
         java.net.URL
         java.net.URI
         java.net.File
    You also need to be sure your server is configured to serve the file. For example, you ought to be able to access the file through your browser using something like http://www.myco.com/myapp/myfile.txt. (How you configure your server is a topic for a different forum.)
    You probably also want to look into JavaWS security, and even Java security in general to determine if you need to sign your app or not. Here are some links to get you started:

  • Uploading File to server from local machine

    I dont know how to proceed the steps for uploading

    Hi Ozkantr,
    The osql utility is installed by SQL Server. You need to make sure the utility is installed on your colleague machine.
    To run SSIS package outside the BIDS, only the DTExec utility which is a client tool is not enough, the server components for Integration Services Service (SSIS runtime) is also required. To install SSIS runtime and DTExec utility, we must install the Integration
    Services shared feature from the SQL Server install media. So, you need to install SSIS service on the machine where the SSIS packages jobs run.

    +1
    You need to install Integration Services, which installs the necessary bytes on your computer and the SSIS service as well. The service can be disabled though, you don't need it to run packages.
    I wrote a blog post about it some time ago:
    When is DTEXEC installed?
    ps: osql is deprecated. Better start using sqlcmd.

  • Uploading a file to server using servlet (Without using Jakarta Commons)

    Hi,
    I was trying to upload a file to server using servlet, but i need to do that without the help of anyother API packages like Jakarta Commons Upload. If any class for retrieval is necessary, how can i write my own code to upload from client machine?.
    From
    Velu

    <p>Why put such a restriction on the solution? Whats wrong about using that library?
    The uploading bit is easy - you put a <input type="file"> component on the form, and set it to be method="post" and enctype="multipart/form-data"
    Reading the input stream at the other end - thats harder - which is why they wrote a library for it. </p>
    why i gave the restriction is that, i have a question that <code>'can't we implement the same upload'</code>
    I was with the view that the same can be implemented by our own code right?

  • Code for downloading a file

    Can some one provide me wit da code for downloadind a file.

    import com.jscape.inet.ftp.*;
    Establishing a connection
    In order to communicate with an FTP server you must first establish a network connection to the FTP server.
    // create Ftp instance with FTP hostname, username and password as arguments
    Ftp ftp = new Ftp("ftp.myserver.com","jsmith","secret");
    // establish connection
    ftp.connect();
    Perform a directory listing
    Once connected you may wish to perform a directory listing on the FTP server. The directory listing will return a relative listing of files and directories that are on the FTP server.
    // perform directory listing
    String listing = ftp.getDirListingAsString();
    // print directory listing to console
    System.out.println(listing);
    Alternatively you may use the getDirListing method. This method parses the results and returns a java.util.Enumeration of FtpFile. Using this method you may then iterate through the Enumeration and evaluate the contents of each file or directory programmatically. Note: This method is only for use by FTP servers which display directory listing using the UNIX or MS-DOS mode. For more information see the Ftp.getDirListing method in the JavaDoc.
    // Perform directory listing
    Enumeration files = ftp.getDirListing();
    // iterate through listing
    while(files.hasMoreElements()) {
    FtpFile file = (FtpFile)files.nextElement();
    // only print files that are directories;
    if(file.isDirectory()) {
    System.out.println(file.getName());
    Changing your local directory
    Your local directory is the directory that you wish to use when transferring files to / from the FTP server. By default this is the directory that the Java executable was invoked from. To change this setting simply invoke the setLocalDir method.
    // change local directory
    ftp.setLocalDir(new File("C:/tmp");
    Changing your remote directory
    Your remote directory represents your current directory on the FTP server. By default this is the directory that is assigned when first logging into the FTP server. To change this setting simply invoke the setDir method.
    // Change remote directory
    ftp.setDir("temp");
    Setting the transfer mode
    Files transferred to / from an FTP server may be transmitted using binary or ASCII modes. The binary transfer mode transfers files without performing any conversion. Binary transfer is generally used for files that are binary in nature such as images, executables etc. The ASCII transfer mode transfers files converting new line characters to the system dependent new line character used by the operating system performing the transfer request. ASCII transfer mode is generally used when downloading text only files. The default transfer mode is binary.
    // change transfer mode to ASCII
    ftp.setAscii();
    // change transfer mode to binary
    ftp.setBinary();
    Downloading files
    To download a file simple invoke the download method. File will be transferred using the current transfer mode and saved in your local directory. See Setting the transfer mode and Changing your local directory for more information. There are other methods that you may use for downloading files. These include methods for downloading entire directories and downloading files matching a regular expression. For more information see the JavaDoc.
    // download a file named test.txt in remote directory
    ftp.download("test.txt");
    Uploading files
    To upload a file simply invoke the upload method. File will be transferred using the current transfer mode and saved in your remote directory. See Setting the transfer mode and Changing your remote directory for more information. There are other methods that you may use for uploading files. These include methods for uploading entire directories and uploading files matching a regular expression. For more information see the JavaDoc.
    // upload a file named test.txt in c:/tmp directory
    ftp.upload(new File("c:/tmp/test.txt"));
    Releasing the connection
    Once you have finished sending your email message(s) it is important that you disconnect from the FTP server. This is easily accomplished using the code below.
    // release the FTP server connection
    ftp.disconnect();

  • Create a new file on server from an applet

    Hello!
    I 'm trying to create a text file on server from an applet, i have permissions to write on server and i'm running in apache, my code is
    public void write () {
    try{
    URL url = new URL("http://localhost/bnm/hello.txt");
    URLConnection urlcon = url.openConnection();
    urlcon.setDoOutput(true);

    String str = new String(URLEncoder.encode("this is output applet ")) ;
    pt.print(str);
    pt.flush();
    catch(Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    The result is nothing, the file isnt created, but the code don't throw exceptions.
    Ah! in other example, i can read a file of server fro m the applet, the problem is to write
    Anybody, knows the matter??
    Excuse my poor english :P
    Thanks for all.

    I had the same needs and didn't know whether this was possible, due to applets security restriction. So I searched the Web and found some contradictory information. I will explain what I think is the situation, to give you an answer, but also so that other people can tell me whether I understood correctly.
    1) Unless you sign it, an applet cannot write files directly, either client-side or server-side. All what it can do to access a file server-side (except .jar files ?) is opening a http connection, which allows only to retrieve data. When I try to run code such as yours, I get this exception :
    java.net.UnknownServiceException: protocol doesn't support output
         at java.net.URLConnection.getOutputStream(URLConnection.java:679)
    2) As Ares_Man points out, what it can do is opening a http connection not directly with the file you want, but with a server-side script (JSP, PHP, CGI,...) which will be allowed to write files on the server. You can use POST or GET parameters to pass to the script what you are going to write.
    This simple code worked for me (it executed the script toto.php):
              try{
                   URL toto=new URL(getCodeBase(),"toto.php");
                   InputStream f=toto.openStream();
                   f.close();
              catch(Exception e){
                   e.printStackTrace();
    Probably it's a good idea to do a URLConnection.setCache(false) though, to be sure that the script toto.php will be executed.
    3) I don't know how you can pass serialized objects as parameters. So if more than text informations are to be written, I would tend to make the script store them into a database instead of files. That way, you could pass any SQL query as parameter, maybe along with a password parameter for security. I don't know whether this is secure enough.

  • How to upload a file into server using j2ee jsp and servlet with bean?

    How to upload a file into server using j2ee jsp and servlet with bean? Please give me the reference or url about how to do that. If related to struts is more suitable.
    Anyone help me please!

    u don't need j2ee and struts to do file uploading. An example is as such
    in JSP. u use the <input> file tag like
    <input type="file"....>You need a bean to capture the file contents like
    class FileUploadObj {
        private FormFile srcFile;
        private byte[] fileContent;
        // all the getter and setter methods
    }Then in the servlet, you process the file for uploading
        * The following loads the uploaded binary data into a byte Array.
        FileUploadObj form = new FileUploadObj();
        byte[] byteArr = null;
        if (form.signFile != null) {
            int filesize = form.srcFile.getFileSize();
            byteArr = new byte[filesize];
            ByteArrayInputStream bytein = new ByteArrayInputStream (form.srcFile.getFileData());
            bytein.read(byteArr);
            bytein.close();
            form.setFileContent(byteArr);
        // Write file content using Writer class into the destination file in the server.

    All you need to do is to get hold of the input stream of the upload file and copy it to an file on your server (which you can create).
        public static int copy(InputStream input, OutputStream output)
                throws IOException {
            byte[] buffer = new byte[1024 * 4];

  • How to write a web service for uploading a file

    Hi all,
    I want to write a web service for uploading a file to some specified folder under application server, how to do that? Thanks

    I believe the "difference" that you're seeing is that one web service is "RPC" style (The Hello World example) and one web service is "Document" style (The WSDL you have downloaded).
    Document-style web service methods always have one element as a parameter, and this parameter manifests itself as a SOAPElement in the service interface.
    RPC-style web services are true "remote procedure calls", and are more functional in nature, in that they accept multiple parameters. JAX-RPC will bind these parameters to generated Java types.
