ColdFusion f*cked up, database driven websites, is there another way?

Hi there,
I downloaded a trial version of ColdFusion from Adobe, and it won't ever let me setup, and it doesn't let me uninstall. It asks for my OS X login password, I typed it in correctly, and it always comes out wrond. Don't ask me if I did type it in wrongly, cus I didn't . I tried logging out and ten back in again. Adobe are probably a con, they don't let you uninstall software off YOUR computer. So, I was wondering, is there another way to make database driven websites on your Mac without using con company software like Adobe? If somebody can sort out the Adobe problem, I would be really appriciate it.

Ok, first of all you need to understand this entire process from installing the server apps, to writing the code, to laying out the page isnt going to be a simple drag and drop, point and click, upload and go process. Its going to be ALOT more involved than that on any operating system and in any development environment. I dont ever want to discourage, but im going to let you know right now if you have this attitude of "it didnt work in the first 10 minutes" you aint gonna end up creating anything. Period.
That said, you need to consider where youre going to run this site. Are you going to run it off your home computer? Ok, then youll need a static ip address to bind to your domain name and at the leat a always on broadband connection - preferably a business account if you want to avoid being haslted by your ISP. If youre going to host the site somewhere then you need to lok at what type of server its going to run n and what technlogies are going to be available on that server. The most common are ASP/ASP.Net and PHP4.In combonation with MSSQL, MySQL or Postgre. You cant really run ASP on your mac since its an MS only thing (ALthough ther eis a Java server that will run ASP available from Sun Microsystems). So now youre left with PHP out of those two. Ofcourse, you can find hosts offering hosted Coldfusion and Ruby on Rails. However rails can be tricky to get working on a mac properly so id say youll probably jsut want to stick with PHP. Id reccommend php4 as opposed to php5 since most hosts arent yet offering php5(this is changing daily but for the time being in a learning environment jsut use 4).
As for MySQL, agian you need to use in your environment the one youre using on your host. So stick with verion 4.x.x as thats what most hosts currently run... Mine still runs 3.x.x although tats set to change to 4.x.x by the end of the year.
One thing youll learn in web development is that people dont always use the most recent generally available rleas of a product, particularily where opensource stuff is concerned.

I want to create a website , not super classy but simple one . I want to have the website connected to a oracle database where all the details of products will be stored. Not much into details just enough. Then connect the website with the database so that we can add,delete,update things from the website . Website be a front end and oracle database a back end.
This is for my project . I have created static web pages with pagebreeze. I have downloaded the oracle 10g thing on my system. I think i can create a database in that . But now how to link both things and how to go from here to get a database driven website ?

I created some simple web pages to display/update details on an oracle database. I used apache web server, and php for the pages. In php it is simple to access an oracle database using oci_connect, oci_parse, oci_execute, etc.

I am afraid that this is not possible in Muse at this stage, I will recommend that you post this on our ideas section over here, Ideas for features in Adobe Muse, and let our devs team know of this requirement.
In muse you can only design static content. For any dynamic content that you need to render via DB, you will need to write custom code and insert it in Muse via 'object -> insert html' option or 'properties -> metadata -> html for head' option.

I used the "forget this site" feature for a website - is there a way to undo it?

Is the "forget this site" feature permanent? I didn't know what it would do so I right clicked a website in my history which I would like to restore so it shows up in future visits. Does it just forget the site for the past visits? If I go to the site again will it show up again? I'm so confused - thx for your help!

iWeb stores its sites and pages in a proprietary package format on the HDD in the user library, and when FTP'ing it to the server, it's a set of PHP and other file types. So, there is no way you can re-build from what's on the server.
But you may double-check, the file in question on the HDD is ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2 (where ~ is your user home folder). Maybe it's somewhere among your recovered files? Restoring it into the same location and copying iWeb into the Applications folder will get you going again.

Flash Player works just fine on a Mac. You're confusing the issue with that of iOS devices such as the iPhone and iPad, for which Adobe never came up with a viable version of Flash. Just download and install Flash Player from Adobe:

web development in my design, would this be a good use for it? If

general forum but maybe should have done it here first?

I would say it totally depends on the format that the manuals
are in. If they're HTML than you can store them as BLOB's in mysql
and you're life will be rather easy. You would need to parse the
blob output for URLs but that's about it.
However, if the manuals are in PDF than a database wouldn't
help with the storage of the actual files, however you can use
either XML or a DB (i.e. mysql) to store the metadata about that
manual so that you can at least make the site searchable.
A little more information about your data/website would
probably be helpful.

Please excuse my ignorance as I stumble thru my question.
I would like to have a website, via Mobile Me or otherwise, that is similar to ones you see at newspapers - where there are selection boxes for users to choose what they want to see (one, several or all) of a category, and then the results can be sorted.
I have the data in a database... I'm just not sure what I do from there.
I looked at many calendar driven applications, but they do not seem to give me the flexibility I need for allowing my viewers to choose what they see.
If someone can just give me a push in the direction of what it is that I'm looking for, I'll be off and running...

MobileMe does not support server side scripting or databases by users.
I have a work around to show the HTML published database with an iFrame if your database app. has instant web publishing capabilities. But that may not be what you are looking for as there will be a 'log-in to database(server)' screen first.
If you are looking for a database driven content management platform then you may want to check out [Drupal|http://drupal.org>, it works with MySQL databases and PHP.
On their website you can find plenty of hosts for your Drupal website.
With PHP or MySQL over ODBC you can even connect to your database.
Check out [DynDNS|http://www.dyndns.com> if you want to use your own Mac as a web/database server behind a consumer router with variable IP nr.

SEO with PHP/Database driven sites

I know this is the wrong place for this question but I wanted the opinion of this forum.
My company is in the planning stages of building a new site. It's currently PHP/Database driven but for the amount of products we have in our lineup, it's not really necessary. I'm heading up the SEO for the new site and have been looking into it the past few weeks.
From what I've read here and there, PHP isn't too search engine friendly. There aren't any recent articles online that I can find on the subject so I would like to know your opinion. The new site can be created just as well with HTML/CSS and we plan to go crazy with SEO. From what you guys know about SEO, would you recommend staying with PHP or moving over to HTML?

No, there is no difference. The only thing to ensure is that your 'meta' description is also individualised for each item/page and that any images contain a title attribute individual to the image and not the generic "product image" title, (or similar) that many include.
This is what I've learned. I'm excited to begin the whole process. We have many websites that need to be re-done so we're trying to work out good plan before doing so. Designing for mobile came up after the first site was completed and I didn't have too much time to get into that, as you saw a few weeks back. Right now the page is only really built for Blackberry and once I was going to get into learning the media queries for the next two, I was put onto SEO.
We're a bbq company with a tonne of brands and things haven't been touched in years. Not a single person here knows anything about any of the websites. When I was hired a few months ago I was just thrown into the mix. As I'm sure you can imagine, things can get frustrating.

Need help connecting to database on website!!!!

I am doing a school project and have decided to make a database which i can store user info and car info (its a car auction program)
But i am having trouble with the connection to the database... we have been told to use jdbc odbc connection so is there a way to use this method to connect to my database?
this is my connection code when connecting to the database locally:

i omitted the other code because it is pretty standard code to do this connection.
But now i want to connect to a database of the same name on this site:

what must i change in my code to be able to connect to the database on the internet????

I am using Netbeans 7 and am having troubles connecting my java program to a Microsoft Access database which is on this website:

JavaFX for database driven applications? No Tree or Table components?

Use dropdownlist to select image (database driven)

Im building a web application in flash builder which will be database driven. The database will contain id (of product), name (of product), photofile (text string i.e photo1.jpg). i have the data/services up and running, i just need to get it so when the user selects a name from the dropdownlist the corresponding photofile is selected into the picture frame.
I know to turn the photofile text into a picture it will be something like this but not sure what code to insert into the <s:Image tag;

Howto build database driven forms

Hello
I'm a newbie to oracle forms.I'm intrested in creating a database driven form which would take single or multiple input from user in single or multiple input boxes and add in a table which i shall query to develop oracle reports.I should also be able to populate data from the table onto the forms for users to review.
Kindly guide.I'm also googling for a suitable oracle forms guide too.If you have any do let me know.
