Coldfusion.sql.DatabaseConnectionException

After two years having database connections running without
any problems, i'm now since three month faced
with the following error intermittently .
"Coldfusion.sql.DatabaseConnectionException"
In total i've got 12 different dadabase connections running,
where 8 of them are receiving opload data from
Oracle in a batch process running in the night.
However there is only ONE database what is generating this
error.
The size of the data base is not that big, it is only 6 MB
at this moment, and i do not expect a big increase
of this base.
How can I get this fixed.
Thanks

I'm no expert, but thought I would try to be helpful.
I was getting this same error on a regular basis.
The short term fix was to restart the ODBC server service.
The long term fix was twofold:
1. I recreated the ODBC connection in ColdFusion
Administrator to use the system connection (I was using the SA and
PW for login).
2. I created a second user ODBC connection as well as the
system one under ODBC in Windows Server 2003.
I haven't had the problem since.
I also read a pretty good set of "stuff" to try from the help
area:

Hope this helps.

  • Substr function not working in coldfusion sql

    Hi all,
I am using coldfusion 7.0.2 with oracle 10g. I've the
    following simple query
    select substr(colname,1,3) from tablename
this query works fine if i run it using TOAD or SQLPLUS but
when i run this query in coldfusion script i get the following
    error
    [Table (rows 9 columns SUBSTR(colname,1,3)):
    [SUBSTR(colname,1,3): coldfusion.sql.QueryColumn@fc7be7] ] is not
    indexable by SUBSTR(colname
can anybody tell me why it doesn't work in coldfusion but
    works fine in sqlplus?
    thank you

There's no such thing as "coldfusion sql" (sic). Everything
    between the
<cfquery> tags is simply resolved (ie: CF runtime
    statements between
pound-signs) and passed straight to the DB drivers, and
    thence to the DB
itself. CF does no SQL processing at all.
Your error kind of suggests a syntac error AFTER the query
    has been
    executed though.
Could you post some code, and point out which precise line is
    erroring?

  • Coldfusion.sql.DataSourcePermission Error

    Hi,
I have been programming in CF for 10 years.  I set up my umteenth database (copied an exsiting one) and connected the datasource.  I received this error: coldfusion.sql.DataSourcePermission right off the bat.
All permissions are IDENTICAL to ones running to other data sources and this datasource is connected and verfied in the CF admin.  I'm frustrated because there is virtually nothing on the web (apparently nobody likes this language) and there is no apparent reason for this.
I'm running Win 2008R2 64 bit on a Rackspace cloud server.  I have 4 datasources that work.  I don't see any connection limits in SQL Mgr....Running CF 9.0.0
       HELP!!!
    Michael

    Michael,
I now see that this is a very old post!  Did you ever get a solution to this?
I'm having the same problem lately.  I've tried recreating the DataSource connections but that doesn't seem to help.  All login information has been checked twice and I can make changes with other DB workbenches.
To add to this note, I am now sure this is a ColdFusion 10 related problem as I can't even make changes to the very simple Apache Derby database that is used in Ben Forta's CFWACK book series...  I also get the coldfusion.sql.DataSourcePermission error.
    I'm running CFBuilder 2.0.1/CF Server 10 on Windows 8 64bit Pro.

    David

  • Flex + BlazeDS + ColdFusion + SQL

Ok, I'm relatively new to this whole Flex thing -- I've been
through a few tutorials, written a few apps, but I'm still unclear
    on a few things.
I just want to write an app that reads record(s) from an SQL
database, and allows the user to modify and update those record(s).
Should be extremely simple, and yet somehow it's been overly
complicated by a dozen layers of (seemingly unnecessary) software.
    So here are my questions:
#1) Why can't Flex talk to an SQL database directly? Why do I
    need ColdFusion for this?
#2) What the heck is BlazeDS? (Yes, I've read the FAQ and I
still don't understand why I need it.) If I'm running BlazeDS, do I
really need ColdFusion? If so, why?
#3) In the BlazeDS FAQ, it mentions something about accessing
server-side Java objects -- so do I need to install JavaEE on top
of CF and the SQL database now, too?
It just seems so overly complicated for such a simple task.
If someone could explain all this to me, I would greatly
    appreciate it.

BlazeDS handles all the messaging for you. If you don't need
    your apps to
be informed of stuff without making server request, you can
    use literally
any back end under the sun, ASP, PHP, even good ole CGI.

  • Flex and Coldfusion error handling

Hello! I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction regarding error handling in a Flex app thats using an HTTPSERVICE RPC to a Coldfusion component.
If a user is entering form data in Flex and clicks submit... the data is sent via the HTTPSERVICE send method as XML to the CFC. But what if there is a Coldfusion SQL insert statement error? Say a user enters a character in a number field (now i know the best thing to do would be to have actionscript ensure that the values entered are numbers but lets keep that aside just for this example). How could I alert the user to let them know the CFC encountered a SQL error? Or better yet... alert them that everything went "A" ok and their data was successfully submitted.
I originally thought to put CFTRY and CFCATCH around the CFC code. I could do that fine, but had trouble passing back a message string so that FLEX could use it in an Alert.Show window.
    Thanks!
    -BosDog

    Hey Mike,
Sorry after I posted I thought "this may be a question for CF guys as well".
I definitely use and love RemoteObjects. Its great for binding to datagrids and to run SQL to return data from the server back to Flex. I've struggled with successfully passing variables from Flex to CF using RemoteObject though. Say a dataform with 5 text fields & 2 combo box dropdowns.
I think you may have forgotten to post the link to the article for me to read... i didnt see it in your last post?
    Thanks!

  • Converting an Ultra Search result to a ColdFusion query

    Hello,
I'm trying to convert an Ultra Search result into a ColdFusion query.
There's a java class for CF which turns a java result into a CF query, coldfusion.sql.QueryTable(java.sql.ResultSet), but is there anything which will convert an Ultra Search result to a java result or a CF query?
    Thanks.

    HOMEWORK ALERT HOMEWORK ALERT
You can't cast from a character to a String. That doesn't work.
However, in a fit of being helpful.
Look at the constructors for the String object in the API
    Link ===> http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/lang/String.html#String(char[])
    char[] charA = {'H', 'E', 'L', 'L', 'O', ' ', 'W', 'O', 'R', 'L', 'D' } ;
    String a = new String(charA) ;
System.out.println(a) ;There's a price for my help, and it's this. Now that you understand what you can do, is it a good idea or a bad idea and why ???
    Explain.

The remoting application uses many queries/responses to/from
the SQL 2000 database via Coldfusion.
The Flash Remoting application is a game which I hope will
become popular and be played by many thousands of users at the same
time - meaning that SQL2000/Coldfusion will need to process
    thousands of simultaneous requests.
    QUESTIONS:
1/ My main concern is that if there are many thousands of
users playing the game simultaneously will Coldfusion and SQL 2000
be able to handle the thousands of "simultaneous requests" going
back and forth from the Remoting,Coldfusion,SQL 2000?
2/ Will I need several dedicated servers to handle thousands
of simultaneous requests (as Macromedia advises that should not set
to more than 40 simulateous requests)?
3/ Would it be preferable to use ASP.NET instead of
    Coldfusion:
(i)To Interact between Flash Remoting and SQL2000 as there is
much discussion that ASP.NET is far superior to Coldfusion in
handling significant loads and simultaneous requests?
(ii)Need to purchase multiple Coldfusion licenses in the
event that multiple dedicated servers are needed and ASP.NET does
not require purchase of separate licenses on servers?
I realise that will depend on many variables, however any
feedback on above issues will be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi
In ColdFusion 10 Standard the Simultaneous requests should be equals to 10 or more than 10 however in ColdFusion 10 Enterprise there is no such restriction, the value can be of a single numeric digit as well like 5,4,6 or so on.
You can consider this as a benefit of running ColdFusion 10 enterprise
    Thanks
    VJ

  • Coldfusion and Livecycle development

Being a (intermediate) Coldfusion developer - addressing SQl and CF queries to an ODBC database (Access) and using Livecycle Designer ES for the first time (Acrobat 9 Pro)... I'm trying to plan the best way to fuse these programs together for a project I'm working on. I'm not fluent with Javascript but can somewhat 'backwards engineer' a script. Not being fluent in Javascript makes me a bit hesitant to even use Livecycle forms in the first place - I'm more used to doing all this with CF and SQL on an internet server...
A couple of the main reasons I'd like to use Livecycle are - the ability to set up some of the forms to run client-side and using a security (ID) key for form submissions back to the server (as well as the capability to 'hash' the data back to the server with encryption). Security features within the PDF invironment are what attracts me to Livecycle forms as well as user interactivity in building the form client-side, as in expanding forms and fields or buttons being visible or hidden depending on the user's choice.
Since Access (2007) can export a table's fields as an XML schema file (from what I've found, needing to re-save this file as an XSD file) for insertion in the Livecycle form - This makes it handy to set up the form to run client-side and not have to address the server-side database everytime a user choice is made on the form, before form submission back to the server.
So... Providing that I don't have to become a JavaScript guru, the following is the 'meat' of this posting - a scenario in (wondering how to get) Livecycle, Coldfusion, SQL, XML and Access all working together:
Livecycle forms set up with an XSD schema provided from Access (the schema within the saved form as a PDF Dynamic XML form) / On validated form completion by the user (client-side) the submit button, after user Key entered, submits to a Cold Fusion (hidden) action page on the server containing CF and/or SQL database insertions, updates, etc. that, after the queries run, 'bounces' the user to another client-side PDF.
Would this scenario work? Am I thinking right on this in mixing Livecycle data with Coldfusion and SQL in this way?
I'm not sure how a CF action page would deal with the data coming into it encrypted (maybe with setting variables) or if the CF action page retains the security set by the PDF page before it bounces the user back to his/her client-side Acrobat Reader... as well as running queries from a CF action page that pulls data from the database and sends back to the user's next PDF as encrypted data.
Also, I'm not sure how the Access generated XML schema treats fields in the database that have a space in the field name, as in a field named "First Name". Some of my table fields are to be updated with an uploaded delimited text file coming from (admin permitted) users - my table fields Have to be set up in Access to match the user's field names. Field names that are merged together in the XML schema wouldn't match up when sent back to the database although I guess you could set variables for this as well on a CF action page.
Should I just forget using Coldfusion and try to do this all through direct database insertion and form filling through the Livecycle PDF forms? (And purchase a JavaScript book to learn yet another language before deadline time?)
In not knowing JavaSript, I'm having a bit of a mental block in learning Livecycle. I had hoped that the JavaScript would be written as you set up button properties, assigned on-click events, structered the subform heirarchy and so on and then, in Livecycle's scriptwriter assign an 'initialize' or 'click' and a function from the "fn" button (that only offers a few choices). I really need to know how to write Javascript myself, don't I? (This is probably obvious to all - "yes, dummy, you need to know how to write JavaScript for Livecycle.) I guess I'm missing something in the help files and tutorials... You can sure tell I'm self taught, huh...
I would do this all with just CF anyhow with application files and session management with cookies and so on but with security concerns it seems PDFs can easily enough be set up in a pretty secure environment. The PDF security as well as client-side user interaction with dynamic PDFs are what attracts me to Livecycle PDFs. There's not too much of a learning curve for building Livecycle PDF forms except for having to learn JavaScript with a deadlined current project maybe being too much for me.
Livecycle or Coldfusion or both programs together? Especially for the security concerns. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of info on CF and Livecycle running together - at Adobe or with googling - at least not on a novice or intermediate level.
Anyone's thoughts or comments on this? I'll post this in the Coldfusion forum as well if y'all think it may benefit forum users there as well.
    Thanks for input on this...

I've been using the Portlet tool kit for quite a while. I run
websphere test server right on my desk top and I manually deploy my
cfc to there. When the devlopment is done, I place my new cfc in to
cfportlet.war file and update the portlet through WS.

  • ColdFusion MX7 Reports Hang

Please see the stack trace below from FusionReactor.  This just started two weeks ago, we had been running great for over three months with no issues like this.  In the past we had seen this once a month or so, but never spent much time on it because it was very infrequent.  Thanks in advance for your help.
