Collection toArray method problem

everything ok
assets = new Asset[alAsset.size()];

why?
Do any one explain this?

            Vector v = new Vector();
            String str1 = "abc";
            String str2 = "123";
            v.add(str1);
            v.add(str2);
            String strs[] = new String[v.size()];
            v.toArray(strs);                //It work
//            strs = (String[])v.toArray(); //It doesn't work
            for(int i=0;i<strs.length;i++)
                System.out.println((String)strs);

  • Collection.toArray

    Why does the Collection<E> interface have a method
    Object[] toArray()instead of
    E[] toArray()?
    I bet there is a reason, but it is not obvious to me what the reason might be ...

    If you tried to compile that class, I believe that the second, third, and sixth lines will emit compiler errors.
    I don't believe that it is legal to declare an array of E's.It compiles. Look at Collection.toArray(T[]) for another example, or section 7.3 in the generics tutorial.
    I guess the problem with the method in question, if defined as E[] toArray(), is that it should return an array of the collection's element type in order to be correct (do what it says it does). So:
    List<Something> list = new ArrayList<Something>();
    list.toArray();  // <--- would return a Something[]But, if you replace Something with a parameterized type, you can't have an array of it. So you can have a List<Filter<String>>, but what does its toArray() method return? It could return an array of the raw type (Filter) of E but how do you declare that?
    CollImpl ducks around this somewhat, because you can't create one with E as a parameterized type in the first place, due to the constructor. But the contracts java.util.Collection specifies should be able to be upheld by all implementations.
    That's the issue as I see it anyway, but maybe there's more to it.

  • Collection.toArray() weird ?

    How come java throws exception with this ?
    Vector v = new Vector();
    v.add(new Float(1.0));
    v.add(new Float(1.0));
    Float[] f = (Float []) v.toArray() ;
    why can't I cast Object[] returned by toArray() method of collection. How is this method different for toArray(Object [])? How to work with toArray() according to my program ?

    Hi there
    This is because v.toArray() - returns an Object[] containing references to two Float objects (which does not suddenly classify as an array of type Float - right ?)
    Here one solution to your problem:
            Vector v = new Vector();
            v.add(new Float(1.0));
            v.add(new Float(1.0));
            //Float[] f = (Float []) v.toArray() ;
            int elements = v.size();
            Float[] f = new Float[elements];
            for (int i = 0; i < elements; i++) {
                f[i] = (Float)v.elementAt(i);
            }Kind regs,

  • Writing the toArray method

    This is a question from a quiz of mine from a course from last semester. I am trying to work it to help prepare for an exam.
    I am to write the toArray method to add the elements of a list to an array of the exact same size. I am to do this using an iterator.
    Here is what I had done. This is suppose to be in a "driver" class.
    ListInterface list = new List??Based(); //The type of implementation shouldn't matter
    Object[] = toArray(list)
    private static Object[] toArray(ListInterface list)
         Iterator iter = list.iterator();
         int size = 0;
         while(iter.hasNext())
              size++;
              iter.next();
         int index = 0;
         Object[] temp = new Object[list.size()];
         while(iter.hasNext())
               array[index] = item.next();
               index++;
    }I am open to any constructive criticism. This is as far as I have gotten.

    Here is my final code for the proposed problem:
    ListInterface list = new List??Based();
    Object [] array = toArray(list);
    *Returns an Object array containing the exact elements of a given list. <br>
    *Preconditions: A list of elements to insert into an array. <br>
    *Postconditions: An array of the elements from the given list. The list will not reference the array, therefore the array
    * is an independent copy of the elements from the given list. <br>
    *Throws: none <br>
    private static Object[] toArray(ListInterface list)
         Iterator iter = list.iterator(); //to traverse the list
         Object tempArray = new Object[list.size()]; //creates a new array of the exact same size of the list
         while(iter.hasNext()) //test to make sure we have not reached the end of the list
              int index = 0; //the starting index of the array to add elements
              array[index] = iter.next(); //gets the item and places into the array
              index++; //increments index by 1 to move to next place of insertion in the array
         }// end while
         return tempArray; //returns the new array to the calling method
    }// end toArray

    Re: BufferedReader's readLine() method problem.
    Author: EagleEye101 Feb 18, 2005 8:48 PM (reply 1 of 1)
    You do relize that when you call the in.readLine() in your loop conditional and in your loop body it reads in diffrent lines. Try this:
    public String searchForAString(String fileName, int lineNumber)
    File fileObject = new File(fileName);
    String finalString ="";
    String record = "";
    int line;
    try
    FileInputStream fileInputStreamObject = new FileInputStream(fileObject);
    BufferedInputStream bufferedInputStreamObject = new BufferedInputStream(fileInputStreamObject);
    //DataInputStream dataInputStreamObject = new DataInputStream(bufferedInputStreamObject);
    BufferedReader bufferedReaderObject = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(bufferedInputStreamObject));
    //System.out.println(bufferedReaderObject.readLine());
    //System.out.println("_____________________");
    String s = bufferedReaderObject.readLine();
    while(s != null)
    System.out.println(bufferedReaderObject.readLine());
    s = bufferedReaderObject.readLine();
    Every time you call the readLine method, it does read a diffrent line. Java does not know you want to read the same line twice.
    Tried it, did not work. I need to go through each line of the file I have. Any ideas?

    solution should be in your other thread.
    Please do not repeat threads--it really bugs the people here, just some 'nettiquite' --I don't mean to be a grouch.

  • Problem with Collection API method LIMIT?

    Hi,
    I am trying to learn PL/SQL in my free time and I can't get collection_name.LIMIT to work correctly.
    declare
    type list is table of integer;
    set_a list := list(1,2,3,3);
    i pls_integer := 0;
    begin
    set_a.trim(2);
    i := set_a.limit;
    dbms_output.put_line('Trim(2) leaves ' || to_char(i) || ' spaces in list');
    end;
    The above code prints 'Trim(2) leaves spaces in list'. I first tried putting set_a.limit inside the to_char and got the same results. I tried using it in the expression for an IF statement as I have read in the book and online; something like if set_a.limit < 4 then... This returns true, while set_a.limit > 1 returns false.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Oh, and I am using the win32_11gR2_database I got from the Oracle download page on Windows XP SP3.
    Thanks.

    I figured it out, on closer inspection I see it is only used for varying arrays, and I was trying it on a nested table... Thanks for the advice.
    So, I am reading a horrible book full of typos called "Oracle Database 11g PL/SQL Programming" from the Oracle Press and McGraw Hill.
    BULK COLLECT INTO, page 123
    "The LIMIT statement lets you constrain the size of bulk selections, but you can only use it with explicit cursors." - NOT what I asked about.
    FORALL, page 127
    "The FORALL loop is designed to work with Oracle collections. It lets you insert, update, or delete bulk data." - NOT what I asked about.
    Collection API, page 253
    "The LIMIT method returns the highest possible subscript value in a collection. It can only return a PLS_INTEGER type and can only be used by a VARRAY datatype. It has the following prototype..."

  • Compiler warning with Collections.sort() method

    Hi,
    I am sorting a Vector that contains CardTiles objects. CardTiles is a class that extends JButton and implements Comparable. The code works fine but i get the following warning after compilation.
    Note: DeckOfCards.java uses unchecked or unsafe operations.
    Note: Recompile with -Xlint:unchecked for details.
    After compiling with -Xlint, i get the following warning;

    What could be the problem? Is Collections.sort() only intended for Collections of type List?

  • CMP Custom Finder Method Problem

    Hi everybody,
    I have a problem about CMP Custom Finder Method.
    I made CMP Entity Bean and deployed.
    Then, I updated finder section in orion-ejb-jar.xml to add my custom finder query.
    Here is updating finder section in my orion-ejb-jar.xml.
    <finder-method query="(($schStartDate &lt;= TO_DATE($1,'MM-DD-YYYY a HH:MI') and $schEndDate &gt;= TO_DATE($1,'MM-DD-YYYY a HH:MI')) or ($schStartDate &lt;= TO_DATE($2,'MM-DD-YYYY a HH:MI') and $schEndDate &gt;= TO_DATE($2,'MM-DD-YYYY a HH:MI'))) and ($schRoom = $3)">
    <!-- Generated SQL: "......" -->
    <method>
    <ejb-name>RoomSchedule</ejb-name>
    <method-name>findBySchDateAndRoom</method-name>
    <method-params>
    <method-param>java.lang.String</method-param>
    <method-param>java.lang.String</method-param>
    <method-param>java.lang.String</method-param>
    </method-params>
    </method>
    </finder-method>
    <resource-ref-mapping name="jdbc/OracleDS" />
    And, i restarted oc4j. so, oc4j redepoyed CMP bean.
    But, when my client program called CMP Bean, lookup() was ok, but calling findBySchDateAndRoom() was bad.
    I couldn't get any result collection.
    Here is my client code.
    Context ctx = new InitialContext();
    Object ref = ctx.lookup("RoomSchedule");
    roomScheduleHome = (RoomScheduleHome) PortableRemoteObject.narrow(ref, RoomScheduleHome.class);
    String startDT = new String("07-30-2002 am 10:30");
    String endDT = new String("07-30-2002 pm 05:20);
    String roomID = "TEST";
    Collection roomAllSch = roomScheduleHome.findBySchDateAndRoom(startDT, endDT, roomID1);
    Iterator roomSchItr = roomAllSch.iterator();
    int schQty = 0;
    while (roomSchItr.hasNext()) {
    roomSchedule = (RoomSchedule) roomSchItr.next();
    if(roomSchedule.getStatus().equals("A"))
    schQty++;
    After excuting above code, schQty was still zero!!
    Because Collection roomAllSch had not any items.
    But, table ROOMSCHEDULE had 30 records which were same query condition in my database.
    I traced SQL statement using P6Spy Class.
    Here is spy.log.
    1028006337814|10|0|statement|select * from RoomSchedule where ((RoomSchedule.schStartDate <= TO_DATE(?,'MM-DD-YYYY A.M. HH:MI') and RoomSchedule.schEndDate >= TO_DATE(?,'MM-DD-YYYY A.M.     As you see it, two query statement were executed.
    First query statement was ok and got some result records.
    But, second query statement was bad so didn't get any result records.
    I didn't understand why second query statement was executed.
    When roomAllSch.iterator() was being excuted in my client program, second query statment was executed.
    I couldn't believe....
    What's wrong? Please help me....

  • Doubt in makePersistentAll(Collection pcs) method

    When a collection is given to a Persistence Manager to persistent, what
    is the order in which the objects from this collection are picked up for
    persistence. I have 2 objects to be persisted - A warehouse and a district
    objects. There is a 1-M relationship between Warehouse and District. The
    warehouse shld be added first and then the district as the district
    account has a reference to the warehouse. When i add both the objects to
    the collection, it always gives me a error sayin no warehouse record
    found. Ive tried with both keepin the warehouse as the first or the last
    record in the collection.
    Can this problem be occuring becuz the warehouse record has not been
    committed to the database yet. I cannot make makePersistent() call for
    each objects as i have hundreds of objects to be persisteted.
    Please advise.

    Could you please post the exception that you are seeing? Also, what
    version of Kodo JDO are you using?
    As of version 2.2.3, the behavior is as follows: makePersistentAll()
    obtains an iterator from the collection passed into the method call, and
    loops over that collection in order invoking makePersistent() on each.
    The objects are queued for flushing to the data store in the order in
    which they were first added to the current transaction. During commit,
    PersistenceCapable objects reachable from the objects in the list of
    objects made persistent will be made persistent themselves if they are
    not already persistent.
    Note that we may change this behavior slightly once the final
    specification is released, if doing so will facilitate our compliance
    with the final spec. In particular, our 1.0-compliant version may add a
    reachable object to the transaction when its owning object is made
    persistent. This would preserve the ordering as defined in the list
    passed to makePersistentAll(), with two exceptions:
         - an object that appears late in the list but is reachable from
         an object early in the list may end up being persisted just
         after the object from which it is reachable, rather than in its
         position in the list (current behavior).
         - an object that is not in the list passed to makePersistentAll()
         but is reachable from an object in the list may be persistent just
         after the object from which it is reachable, rather than at the
         end of the list (current behavior).
    Finally, what is the underlying implementation of the collection that
    you are passing to makePersistentAll()? If the collection implementation
    that you are using is not ordered, then all bets are off.

  • Passing DataObject to EJB Method Problem

    Dear All,
    I got a problem when I pass a data to a EJB Method.
    Here is the situration:
    BaseClass.java <-- It's an abstract class
    private LinkedList baseList; <-- It is a private attribute which is
    LinkedList.
    public LinkedList getBaseList(){ ... };
    public void setBaseList(LinkedList newList){ ... }; <-- A pair of getter /
    setter methods of the private attribute.
    MyClass.java <-- It's extends BaseClass and implements Serializable
    MySessionBean.java <-- It's implements SessionBean
    public void process( BaseClass dataObject) thorws Exception <-- A business
    method which support both Local and Remote Access.
    MyTestClass.java
    public void process( BaseClass dataObject) <-- Just a simple method which
    has an argument.
    Problem:
    When I create a MyClass object and set the baseList( which has 1 element) by
    the setter method then pass it to the process method of the session bean by
    remote interface, the baseList becomes empty.
    However, I just pass it to a simple MyTestClass java, the baseList has no
    problem.
    Could anybody tell me what's the problem of it? and Could give me some hints
    to solve it?
    Many thanks,
    Dennis

    Is one of your bean methods createDoc(String,String,FileOutputStream). If so, you must know that bean methods, arguments and return values that must travel over an RMI protocol, must be one of these: (RMI-IIOP compatible) Primitives, serialized objects, a remote object, or an array or collection (of serialized objects, primitives, or remote objects). FileOutputStream is not a serializable object. Neither is FileInputStream. Why are you trying to pass an InputStream or OutputStream to an EJB? Because you are not allowed to access the file system from an EJB. Anyways, that's my best guess. I hope it helps.

  • Using Calendar.set() method problem

    Hi all,
    First of all sorry to bother with such a trivial(?) matter but I cannot solve it by myself.
    I have a piece of code which I simply want to handle the current date with the GregorianCalendar object so that the date would be set to the Calendar.SUNDAY (of the current week). Simple enough?
    Code as follows:
    import java.util.*;
    import java.text.*;
    public class Foo
    public static void main(String[] args)
         Foo foo = new Foo();
         Date newdate = foo.bar();
    public Date bar()
         GregorianCalendar m_calendar = new GregorianCalendar(new Locale("fi","FI"));
         m_calendar.setFirstDayOfWeek(Calendar.MONDAY);
         Date newDate = null;
         try
              m_calendar.setTime(new Date());
              System.out.println("Calendar='" + m_calendar.toString() + "'");
              m_calendar.set(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK, Calendar.SUNDAY);
              SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy.MM.dd");
              StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
              sdf.format(m_calendar.getTime(), sb, new FieldPosition(0));
              System.out.println("Date in format (" + sdf.toPattern()          + ") = '" + sb.toString() + "'");
         catch(Exception e)
              e.printStackTrace();
         return m_calendar.getTime();
    This should work at least accoring to my understanding of the SDK documentation as follows with
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1_01-b01)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1_01-b01, mixed mode)
    Calendar='java.util.GregorianCalendar[time=1054636838494,areFieldsSet=true,areAllFieldsSet=true,lenient=true,zone=sun.util.calendar.ZoneInfo[id="Europe/Helsinki",offset=7200000,dstSavings=3600000,useDaylight=true,transitions=118,lastRule=java.util.SimpleTimeZone[id=Europe/Helsinki,offset=7200000,dstSavings=3600000,useDaylight=true,startYear=0,startMode=2,startMonth=2,startDay=-1,startDayOfWeek=1,startTime=3600000,startTimeMode=2,endMode=2,endMonth=9,endDay=-1,endDayOfWeek=1,endTime=3600000,endTimeMode=2]],firstDayOfWeek=2,minimalDaysInFirstWeek=4,ERA=1,YEAR=2003,MONTH=5,WEEK_OF_YEAR=23,WEEK_OF_MONTH=1,DAY_OF_MONTH=3,DAY_OF_YEAR=154,DAY_OF_WEEK=3,DAY_OF_WEEK_IN_MONTH=1,AM_PM=1,HOUR=1,HOUR_OF_DAY=13,MINUTE=40,SECOND=38,MILLISECOND=494,ZONE_OFFSET=7200000,DST_OFFSET=3600000]'
    Date in format (yyyy.MM.dd) = '2003.06.08'
    Which is the sunday of this week. But as I run the same code with:
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1.06-020625-14:20)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 1.3.1 1.3.1.06-JPSE_1.3.1.06_20020625 PA2.0, mixed mode)
    Calendar='java.util.GregorianCalendar[time=1054636630703,areFieldsSet=true,areAllFieldsSet=true,lenient=true,zone=java.util.SimpleTimeZone[id=Europe/Helsinki,offset=7200000,dstSavings=3600000,useDaylight=true,startYear=0,startMode=2,startMonth=2,startDay=-1,startDayOfWeek=1,startTime=3600000,startTimeMode=2,endMode=2,endMonth=9,endDay=-1,endDayOfWeek=1,endTime=3600000,endTimeMode=2],firstDayOfWeek=2,minimalDaysInFirstWeek=4,ERA=1,YEAR=2003,MONTH=5,WEEK_OF_YEAR=23,WEEK_OF_MONTH=1,DAY_OF_MONTH=3,DAY_OF_YEAR=154,DAY_OF_WEEK=3,DAY_OF_WEEK_IN_MONTH=1,AM_PM=1,HOUR=1,HOUR_OF_DAY=13,MINUTE=37,SECOND=10,MILLISECOND=703,ZONE_OFFSET=7200000,DST_OFFSET=3600000]'
    Date in format (yyyy.MM.dd) = '2003.06.01'
    Which is sunday of the previous week and incorrect in my opinion. The latter result is run on HP-UX B.11.11 U 9000/800 and first on NT.
    Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks in advance!
    Greets, Janne

    Thanks for your answer!
    The problem is that I have to work with this older SDK version. :) But I got it solved by using the roll method with the following syntax:
    int delta = [dayToSet] - m_calendar.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK);
    in which the delta is of course the difference (negative or positive to the current day of the week)
    and then using the roll call:
    m_calendar.roll(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK, delta);
    which doesn't alter the current week. So this works if someone else has a similar problem with the version 1.3.1

  • Enhance Method Problem

    I try to enhance a Method like described in this Thread...
    Re: Sending Email using the Outlook Client
    What I did so far...
    1) In Transaction "bsp_WD_CMPWB"  I choosed Component "BP_ADDR" and created a copy in our "Z_CRM" EnhancementSet
    2) I used the right Mousebutton to Enhance the "BP_ADDR/StandardAddress" View
    Two things had been automatically generated/created...
    - Table Contents BSPWD_CMP_C_REPL
    - Object ZL_BP_ADDR_STANDARDADDRES_CTXT
    3) I doubleclick on the enhanced View "BP_ADDR/StandardAddress"
        (-> In the "View Layout" node the StandardAddress.html is still using the Super Classes / Implementation Class CL_BP_ADDR_STANDARDADDRES_CN01 )
    4) If I go to Implemetation Class CL_BP_ADDR_STANDARDADDRESS_CN01
    5) Select method "GET_P_E_MAILSMT" (and look into the coding)
       The enhancement Functions there are not working for meu2026
       I tried the Button with the (Sprial / helix)
       and the Menu "Edit"-> "Enhancement Operations"
    Where is my error?! (I think I have to create a ZClass for the CL_BP_ADDR_STANDARDADDRES_CN01?!?!? But how to???)
    I will give all possible points for good answers
    Thanks for helpingu2026

    hi,
    Some times I also faced problems to create Zclass for standard ones. But you can do one trick to create Zclass.
    Try to create one dummy attribute in your context node, then it will creates  automatically Zclass for that node. Later you can delete that attribute.
    If you get any problems to create P-getter method, then copy the IF_BSP_WD_MODEL_SETTER_GETTER~_GET_P_XYZ template method and rename to GET_P_E_MAILSMT.

  • Multiple Payment Methods problem in F110 - Parameters

    <b>Prob : Wehn I enter more than one payment method in Parameters in F110 only the 1st Payment method entered is saved. The other payment method gets deleted automatically.</b>
    Following is already done :
    1. All the payment methods entered in F110 Parameters is already maintained in
    the vendor master.
    2. In FBZP - Payment Method for Country & Payment Method for Company Code
    is configured for all the payment methods.
    3. Also Invoices in FI (FB60) are posted for all the payment methods without any
    errors.
    4. Ranking order is maintained for each payment method & for the house bank
    used.
    5. Account determination is also maintained for all the payment methods for the
    respective house bank.
    6. The maximum amount is also maintained for all the payment methods under "Payment Methods for Comapany Code".
    Pl help to resolve this problem.

    hi,
    My problem is in the parameter stage 1st Screen.
    Also you cannot assign more than one Payment Method in the Print Variant.
    Also this variant is used only for printing. Its not called at the stage when I am entering the Payment Method in the 1st screen in the Parameter.
    I have somewhat found out what the problem is.
    I guess there is some change done in the standard SAP program, becuase if i type more than one payment method in the Parameter 1st screen and try to save it, it returns with a warning message "Only one Payment Method can be entered". This is a unique msg which has been written through a Z Program.
    Thanks.
    Bye.

  • PaintComponent method problems...

    Hi, I am developing an game application ( just for fun ) and I have a huge problem with paintComponent method. I Have a class ImagePanel that extends JPanel class. The ImagePanel class overrides the paintComponent method and paintChildren method ( since i have added components inside the JPanel also these must be painted ). The ImagePanel is instantied in my main class IntroView which extends JFrame where it's added. Now when the IntroPanel is created i have noticed that the paintComponent and paintChildren method is called all over again . I Have a soundclip playing in background in it's own thread and this continously paintComponent method call causes the sound clip to break off in few seconds. I Have tried to use JLabel instead of JPanel, but then the image is not shown( alltougth the methods are called only once ). I Have also tried next code to get rid of continous paintComponent call
    ...from ImagePanel class
    ImagePanel extends JPanel.....
    public final void paintComponent( Graphics g )
    if( firstTime )
    super.paintComponent( g );
    g.drawImage( myImage, 0, 0, this );
    firstTime = false;
    public final void paintChildrens( Graphics g )
    if( paintChildren )
    super.paintChildren( g );
    add( startLabel );
    add( optionsLabel );
    paintChildren = false;
    public boolean isOpaque()
    return true;
    Now the paintComponent and paintChildren is called only once. There is still a "little problem" since the paintComponent doesen't paint the image, it paints only the background( I think g.drawImage(...) didint have time to paint the image? ). Also the labels added in paintChildren method are not shown. Sounds paly now just fine.This situation makes me grazy. Please consult me with this problem.....i can surely send also the whole source if needed. There is no effect if I change isOpaque to true or false.

    Hi,
    Thanks for advices, I solved the problem...it was simplier than i thought. When the g.drawImage(.... is called ) i just added Thread.sleep( time ) after that line. This gives the sound therad time to play the sound without interrput and time to main thread to handle the image. All works now pretty much as i thought, except when JFrame is overlapped the image is not drawn again...this can be corrected ( maybe?)by adding windoslistener and implement the methods in that inteface and make some repainting in different situations. But cause you gave me the magic work Thread priority I hox! the problem, so here goes 10 duke dollars.
