Column in Prompt..

Hi
I have a requirement to display a report in dashboard with columns as filters. For example if I have Dept, Location, Emp, Job, Sal columns in a table, I want to display a prompt where in X-Axis can be taken from the prompt with dropdowns as Dept, Location, Job and the Y-Axis will be constant with Sal column. I know that there is an "in prompt" filter option in column level. How ever I am not able to add this filter in results from answers. Any light on this would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ahmed

You can achieve it this way.
Create the report with say Dept on X-Axis and Sal colulmn on Y-axis.
Now, create a column selector and for Dept column, add Location, Emp, Job as the other alternatives.
Now, when a user wants to switch from Dept to Location, he just makes his selection on the Column Selector and you get your desired results.
Let us know if this helps you.

  • OBIEE Column filter prompt issue :: Display Value, Pass Value

    Hi All,
Is it possible to display a value in the prompt and pass another value to the report in OBIEE?
Eg. Display Employee Name but internally pass Employee Key values.
Right now in column filter prompt, I have given an SQL query in SQL results field to fetch Employee Names and Employee Keys.
When I select an Employee Name then Employee Key gets displayed in the prompt (selected values on the left) field.
Filter on column property is set to Employee Key.
My requirement is when an Employee Name is selected, then the same Employee Name should be displayed in the prompt field. Internally Employee Key should be passed.
    Is this possible? Please help.
    Regards,
    Sam

    Hi,
It can be done with the help of an intermediate report and filter based on other request but you need to check the performance. You need to create a report.pull on employee key in that report and put employee name as 'Is Prompted' . Then in your parent report use 'Filter based on other request' and select 'Employee Key' from the intermediate report created.
In this way used only have to select employee name in prompt and employee key willl be passed to parent report. Check the performance before you use this approach as 'filter based on other request' can cause performance issues.

  • Hierarchy column in Prompt

    Hi all,
I am using Project hierarchy column in dashboard prompt.
Levels in this hierarchy are total ->project group-> project subgroup->projects.
created a report with project hierarchy and Budget.
My requirement is when i select project group in prompt my report has to display Top 10 Budget in this group.
Like wise if i select project subgroup means, Top 10 Budget in project subgroup.
Give me the solution how to achieve in obiee 11g.
Pls reply as soon as possible.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
You need to write the below code in the prompt->Choice List Values(11 g)->SQL Results
    SELECT Hier_column_name FROM subject_area_name where rank(measure_column_name)<10
I had tried this and works. Award points if problem got resolved.

  • Hierarchy columns in prompts

    Hi,
When using a hierarchical column (parent-child type) in a prompt the underlying reports must have this column physically included and the hierarchy column must also be included in the graph/table or else it will not be filtered when a value is set in the prompt. This is very frustrating because I don't want to show the hierarchy value in graphs or summary tables, but I want to use the parent-child hierachy col. because it contains the organization and is therefore crucial and highly wanted functionality from users/customers.
I have several times tried to "force" Oracle to look at this as a bug, but they have a hard time to approve this.
Am I the only one that look at this as lack of functionality in OBIEE 11g?

  • Using a Fact Column in Prompt

    Hi,
I have requirement to use a Fact Column (Eg: Control flag) to be used in the Column Prompt. What is the best way of using it such that query performance will improve. If I use it directly it might have scan through my entire fact table which will have a performance impact.
Is there a best way to do it?
    Thanks,
    GJ

    Hi GJ,
The "proper" way to model this in the RPD is to add the column on to a dimension vs. leaving it on the fact table. i.e. the underlying physical fact table becomes a source for both a logical dimension and the logical fact. OBIEE smart enough to sort everything out.
Having said that - the real performance issue could be because, in a prompt, it would have to scan a potentially huge fact table to get the distinct values of the control flag. If that's the case, then you should either 1) build a real dimension table to make it faster (this would be preferable), or 2) add a bitmap index to the control flag column on the fact table, which would also greatly improve the performance of the "select distinct control flag from fact table" query.
    Hope this helps!

  • Formula Column with Prompt

    Hi,
I have a doubt in Column formula. I have a grid with a prompt selection so that users can select a list of members which will be displayed as the columns. The grid also have a total column(formula column) at the end.
For example, If the user selects three members then the grid will show the selected members and the total column. The total column should be sum of three members similarly when I select 5 members the total should be the sum of 5 members.
Is there a way to achieve this when the number of columns will be dynamic based on the user's selection?
    Thanks in advance.

Just choose the sum of particular column e.g. if in Column A you are selecting RTP as 5 members then at the run time it would be 5 columns , but for the summation purpose it is a single column so choose SUM([A]).
If I am not wrong it will solve your problem as I have used it long time back.
Please let me know if doesnt solve your problem.
    Thanks

  • Column Filter Prompt with SQL Results failing

I am trying to restrict a prompt's values so that that the column which contains dates are only valid dates in our production load history. Usually these are dates prior to the current date. I have tried several queries in SQL results, but I keep getting an error. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong here?
Select "IBS_LOAD_DASHBOARD"."DATE_OF_DATA" from "IBS Stats". "IBS_LOAD_DASHBOARD" where "IBS_LOAD_DASHBOARD"."DATE_OF_DATA" <= "LAST_IBS_LOAD"."Last Data Load" ( LAST_IBS_LOAD"."Last Data Load" is the last valid load date)
    or
Select "IBS_LOAD_DASHBOARD"."DATE_OF_DATA" from "IBS Stats". "IBS_LOAD_DASHBOARD" where "IBS_LOAD_DASHBOARD"."DATE_OF_DATA" < CURRENT DATE
On a separate note, when I get the prompt working, only the prompt shows in the initial results. Is there a way to get both the prompt and the full results on the dashboard?

  • Changing datasheet view column width prompts for logon

Hello - I have a SharePoint 2010 farm at work that we are having undesirable logon prompts on at times. A reproducible example is the datasheet view of any library in our site. When a user switches from standard view to datasheet view & then resizes
a column, a logon dialogue box pops up. They can enter their username or cancel - either way they are allowed to continue. This occurs the first time the user tries to make a change to the column width, but not on subsequent attempts. If the view is reloaded
& they attempt to change the width again the logon box pops up again. Users only have read-only access to the view, so they cannot modify it. The 'Modify View' control in the ribbon bar is greyed out.
Background info: Clients are using Windows 7 SP1, Internet Explorer 10 (in compatibility view mode), and MS Office Pro Plus 2010 SP2. SharePoint is 2010 SP1 & June 2011 CU V1 (I know, we need to patch). The site is setup to use NTLM integrated authentication.
All PCs are configured via GPO to add the site to the local Intranet zone. The intranet zone is configured via GPO with medium-low settings & automatic logon in the intranet zone. I have verified the GPO propagation to client PCs and verified that
IE settings are correct for windows integrated authentication to take place.
    Any help is appreciated
    ~james

I am thinking this behavior is not by design. In my environment this is what happens:
A standard user (no modify view rights) changes a column width & gets prompted for credentials. It does not matter what they do - cancel, use own credentials, or use someone else's credentials (with modify rights) - the results are the same.
The view is not changed for everyone, just the local user. The change only applies to the current page load.
Users with modify view rights see no logon prompt.
I just installed Office 2013 with my test VM & the unwanted logon prompt is gone. My opinion is this is an unresolved issue with the Access Web Datasheet, 2010-version active-x plugin. It appears to have been fixed with Access 2013.
I'm going to do some more testing, but this is looking like another reason for an upgrade to Office 2013.
I tried changing the compatibility view settings, user agent string, Browser Mode, and Document Mode. None of the different combinations I tried had any effect on the logon prompt issue.
    Any other ideas?
    thanks

  • 'Sort order column' doesn't work for prompt with function

I turned on the 'sort order column property' in repository for a logic column 'school year', so when I get school year from prompt, it shows desc order. It works fine if th colume in prompt is a simple prompt. But when I add function in the column in prompt (means edit Fx with a case statement), when school year prompt shows in dashboard, it is not sorted in desc order any more, it went back to acs.
Am I missing something, or this is a bug?
Another question, when I turn on 'sort order column property' in repository for a logic column, can I choose to desc on another column? I couldn't do it, and had to create another sorting column.
    Thanks,
    Amy

Cant you create this logic in the rpd and then apply order there and use the newly created column in your prompt..

  • 11g: using limited values in column prompts

    Hello,
in the "Column Filter Prompt Properties" dialog box used in 10g, there was an option called "Limited Values" for "What values should be shown to the user" question. So the users could only see those choices allowed by a filter.
Is there such thing in 11g? I could not find it anywhere. Please help!

Oh I see what you mean. You're talking about the column filter. But it's not actually what I mean.
I mean that it 10g when you click not Criteria tab, but Prompts tab - that's where you can create what they call "Column Filter Prompt". And in that tab you can bring up the "Column Filter Prompt Properties" window and select "Limited Values". Hope I now made it clear what I needed.
    Thanks!

  • Prompting on Results Column

    Hiya,
I have a report which is based on results column. Within in this report I have used one column as prompted. However, it appears prompted does not work as my report returns everything and not what has been prompted.
Is it something I have done wrong or is it simply that you cannot prompt on results column?
    Thanks

Well, yeah, it's faster to use the number so you avoid the fraction of a microsecond it takes to look up the name in a hashmap or whatever the driver uses. But to use that as a justification for using the number and not the name would be totally out of proportion.

  • Passing date parameter from prompt

    Hi experts
I am getting some problem while passing date from a dashboard prompt.
In RPD i have changed the date column properties as DATE only so that i will get the DATE part of the data not the time stamp.
Now in the dashboard prompt i added a prompt for the date column.
I initialized the date prompt with a server variable of sysdate
when i am running the dashboard i am getting default value in the prompt(04/15/2011)
when i am changing the date it is selected as(04/15/2011)
but when i am clicking the 'Go' button the date is converting to 2011-04-15 00:00:00 due to which my report is not running and i am getting error as
    View Display Error
A date value was expected (received "2011-04-15 00:00:00").
    Error Details
    Error Codes: QABPH2PO
can anyone help me to pass only date part
    thanks in advance
    regards

    Hi J / Srikanth
Sorry to restart the thread again.
As we discussed i have downloaded the patch and applied to my windows 32 bit machine.
But now when i run the report the report is running only for the default value(Server Variable) which is specified to the prompt. when i change the date there is no effect to the report.
When i drill down to the report i found that the date column(is prompted) is changed to teh server variable name which is might be the cause.
    any input on this???
    regards

  • Presentation variables in dashboard prompts

    Hi ,
I have a scenario where there are two prompts. When the user selects the value in the first prompt, hits "Apply" button. The prompt value should be passed to another prompt.
For e.g: In the first prompt, the user will have values: Fiscal or Gregorian. The user hits the apply button. Then the presentation variable should get passed to Month prompt in the same dashboard page. The month prompt will use this value to display data accordingly.
If it is Fiscal, the month prompt will display fiscal monthly values.
If it is Gregorian, the month prompt will display gregorian monthly values.
I tried doing it, But i am not able to get it. Is this possible in OBIEE?
    Thanks,
    Upendra

    Hi,
Create the year and month prompt as column value prompt if 11g. Then mark the month prompt by selecting the option "Limit Value by" Year.
    Mark if helpful.
