Column numbers in SQL Developer

This may seem picky; but I find it frustrating to get error messages of the form error in line 35 column 83 and then not have a convenient way other than counting to find line 35 and column 83. Is there a way to jump to the error point? If not, is there an option to show a column ruler?

Jim Smith (and RaghvendraSaboo and Sentinel):
Many thanks for the prompt and helpful replies. These work!
I hope to someday reach the competence level to be able to be so helpful to others on this path of enlightenment.
One more question: Is there any way to help SQL Developer do a better job of screen rendering? If I scroll quickly either vertically or horizontally in a table or a query result, part of my screen becomes unreadable. An Alt-Tab to another application and then an Alt_Tab back always clears it up; but the process gets old very quickly. I experience this on all three of my PCs with SQL Developer.
Is anyone else having the problem? Can I change some setting to avoid it?

  • How to show Primary_key in Column Tab - Oracle SQL Developer 2.1.1.64

How to show Primary_key in Column Tab or It bug? i can not see. thank you for answer.

This was removed for performance reasons, but a lot of us asked for it to go back in.
Don't know if it is currently planned, so better request this at the SQL Developer Exchange, so other users can vote and add weight for possible sooner implementation.

    Welcome to the forum!
Whenever you post provide your full version number for Sql Developer and, if a database is involved the name and full version of the DB.

Since you haven't posted your version and provided the exact steps you are using we have no idea what you are doing to try to copy a table.

  • How to update column in Oracle SQL Developer?

    Hi everybody,
How can I update table in Oracle SQL Developer like in PL/SQL Developer use:
    Select * from table for update;
    Thank you~

Do you mean you want to edit the result grid?
You can't edit the result grid of a query, but you can edit the data tab of a table.
Click on the table in the object browser
    Click on the data tab
Optionally filter the results using the filter field at the top
    Type into the data cells.
    Click on the commit button

What datatype, precision and column name you have?
I use version 1.0.0.15.57 and seems to be working allright.

  • Invalid column index error in sql developer

    Hi,
I was trying to create stored procedures, functions and packages in sql developer which is connected to Oracle 11g. My instructor is able to execute all of them without any errors in 10g. However, when I try to execute them, I get- "Invalid column index error". Any suggestions on how to rectify this error?

    Hi,
    That is probably an
    ORA-17003: Invalid column index
Which is a JDBC error. Is Java/JDBC somehow involved?
If not, could you please post one of the failing statements?
    Regards
    Peter

  • Displaying line numbers in oracle Sql developer

hi guys, can someone tell me how to display line numbers in oracle sql developer Version 2.1.1.64?.

I absolutely didn't know where it was, so I had to look for it, and it appears easy to find.
    Hit Tools
    Hit Preferences
    Expand Code Editor
    Navigate to line gutter
    Now click 'Show line numbers'
And, oh yes, there is a separate sql developer forum. Please keep sql developer issues in that forum.

  • SQL Developer dropping first column in a SQL SELECT

Am not too certain who to report this to... but I just noticed that SQL Developer will not return the first column in a SELECT statement when there is a comment just after the SELECT reserved word when running the query in the SQL Worksheet. For instance:
SELECT -- > HEADER INFORMATION STARTS HERE <--
    w.stu_id HDR_STU_ID,
    w.wiser_id HDR_WISER_ID,
    iep.wiep_id HDR_WIEP_ID,
    sis.wisis_id HDR_WISIS_ID,
    FROM wiser_exit exit
    INNER JOIN wiser w
    ON exit.wiser_id = w.wiser_id
    INNER JOIN wiser_iep iep
    ON w.wiser_id = iep.wiser_id
    INNER JOIN vw_wiser_iep_sis sis
    ON iep.wiep_id = sis.wiep_id
    will just return columns 2 - 4 (HDR_WISER_ID, HDR_WIEP_ID, and HDR_WISIS_ID), and NOT column HDR_STU_ID.
I verified this by running the same query in SQL Commands in the SQL Workshop of APEX, and the resultset returned all the columns including HDR_STU_ID.
Just ran another quick test in SQL Developer, and get the same results from a SELECT against a single table:
SELECT -- > HEADER INFORMATION STARTS HERE <--
    county_cd,
    odd_even_flg,
    street_name
    FROM dime
Did not return the county_cd column.
I know, it's just a minor quirk, but I thought I would mention it.

    John,
Thank you. I replaced the '--' comments with the '/*' '*/' style and it picked up the first column.
I guess I'll just have to break an old habit I've been doing for years for comments. Dang, I hope all that old code doesn't break...
    Thomas
Spoke too soon. I followed up by checking what Oracle's 'Oracle Database 10g The Complete Reference' had to say about the issue of using '--' for comments and under '-- (Comment)' it says "-- tells oracle a comment has begun. Everything from that point to the end of the line is treated as a comment. These delimiters are used only within SQL itself or in PL/SQL ..."
So I guess I can continue using '--', but need to keep in mind that in certain circumstances it might not work as expected. YMMV

  • SQL Developer 1.5.1 - Database Export - Exporting Column Comments

I have tried using the Database Export tool in SQL Developer 1.5.1 to export statements for "comment on column" but with no success. Is there a way to get these statements included in the DDL?

When you select 'table' the comments are generated 'automatically'.
    This is what you want?

  • BUG: SQL Developer 1.5.3 CSV export column order broken

There's a bug in the 1.5.3 release of SQL Developer regarding data export. This bug re-orders the column order in the data export to be alphabetically sorted. This produces mangled CSV files if used on a table or a view.
This is a critical bug to me since I need to produce lots of ad-hoc data CSV export files. I'm staying with SQL Developer 1.5.0.53 (53.38) for now as it doesn't have this problem.
This is the same bug as present in Jdeveloper 11.1 as described in my post here: BUG: Jdev 11.1.1.0.0 -- DB table data export column order is not preserved
    Quoted from that post:
When I connect to Oracle database, get the table list, right click on the table and select 'Export Data'->csv. The dialog box opens with three tabs: Format, Columns, Where. The column order displayed in both tabs Columns and Where is alphabetic. Because alphabetic ordering re-arranges columns from their initial ordering in the table, this screws up CSV export because columns are not in their intended order. This same problem occurs when I try to export data from views to generate a CSV file with a particular column order.
Please open/check bug report if it's already open.
    Thanks!

This happens with all of the export options for tables or views if you right click from the connections tab table list. If I pull it up in the main window and go to the data tab, I can then right click and it will keep the column id order for some of the views and tables. But not all.
I am running 1.5.3 Build Main 5783 on a Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 platform

  • Bug in SQL Developer relating to handling of XMLTYPE columns

    Hi,
I have found a bug in SQL Developer relating to its handling of XMLTYPE columns.
Given a table with the following data:
    ID, XML_DATA
    1, <xml here>
    2, <xml here>
    3, <xml here>
And the following SQL to extract a value from the XML and also an XML fragment as an XMLTYPE:
    SELECT
    EXTRACTVALUE(t.column_value,'/*/USER_ID/text()')user_id
    , t.column_value user_data
    FROM dbuser.mytable m
    , TABLE(XMLSEQUENCE(EXTRACT(m.xml_data, '/*/USER_LIST/USER'))) t
    I get the following:
    user_id, user_data
    jsmith26, (XMLTYPE)
    mjones45, (XMLTYPE)
    sborga31, (XMLTYPE)
Note that the user_id is correctly extracted, however the XMLTYPE column (user_data) is empty in SQL Developer.
The same query returns the correct XML data in TOAD.

    Steve,
So your example is slightly more complex than the one documented for a table in the standard OE schema here:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/functions052.htm
That example works fine on an 11.2.0.1 database with SQL Developer 3.2.20.09.87. Please try the following with your case:
Tools -> Preferences -> Database -> Advanced -> Display Struct Value In Grid (check it off if not already)If that still does not work for Run Statement (query result displayed in the grid, not as script output using Run Script), then please provide a test case based on the Warehouse table in the OE schema (or your case with DDL and DML scripts including the xml data) and I will log a bug.
    Thanks,
    Gary
