Columns within table cells

Is it possible to have more than one column within a table cell?

You can create tabular columns within a table cell. You can type a tab character either by choosing Type > Insert Special Character > Other > Tab, or pressing Option+Tab (Mac). (I can't test this on Windows, but I think Alt-Tab is used to switch between applications, so you could set up a different keystroke in Edit  > Keyboard Shortcuts.) Then you can use the Tab panel to set tab stops within the cell, as if it were a text frame.

  • CSS positioning within table cells

    Maybe I've just been staring at this too long but I'm stumped. I want to  position a table (could be a list) within a table by setting the parent  element to relative and the position of the child element to absolute.  The only problem is that I can't get my table cells to act as parent  elements so the smaller table (or list) positions itself relative to the  wrapper div which is also set to relative. Do I have to create divs  within the table cells? If so it sort of defeats the purpose of the  table. How can I do this using appropriate markup?
    Hope this makes sense. I think my brain has gone numb.

    I think what the OP is trying to do is position some text to the right of the images?
    Obvious answer as the OP has used tables is to insert another 2 column table into each existing table cell, one for the image an one for the text.
    Alternative is to use css to float the images left, give the image a right margin and then the text will appear to the right of it in the table cell. Then just style the text with some css?

  • Notes within table cells

    I made a large table where each cell contains a number indicating
    the level of a parameter.
    Some of these cells would need an explanation. And I'd like to put this
    explanation outside of the table so as to keep it filled with
    numeric values. I thought that a note would be the perfect tool to make
    this kind of table explanation.
    Hence I tried to insert a footnote within a cell,
    but the menu stay as grey as deaf.
    It doesn't even give me the smallest word of explanation about
    this error or inability.
    I didn't find any help on how to insert a footnote within a table cell?
    Is it prohibited?
    Why?

    Bad news, but clear and fast answer.
    I appreciate .
    I'd appreciated to read this as quickly and clearly in the inline help.
    Do you know if this banning of notes within tables
    is lifted with Pages'09?
    Otherwise, I'll submit a feedback.

  • Text Formatting within table cells

    This is probably a very beginner-type question.
    I am using tables to create a page structure, with an 800x600
    table encompassing 3 columns (two outermost two the nav bar and a
    column with pictures in it.) The inner cell will be where I place
    the majority of the text on my page. However, when I try to type in
    the cell it always starts in the middle of the cell, and will never
    start at the top of the cell. How do I fix this?

    Set the vertical alignment of the cell to "top" using the
    "valign" field on
    the Property inspector when you click in the cell. And get a

  • Swf flash files are not displaying neatly within table cells.

    The latest version of Firefox (3.6.12) The website I have design now shows thick lines underneath the flash files. URL Below. The table of pictures should be neat, instead the cells in which the flash files are contained are increasing in height and breaking apart the table . This does not happen in previous version of Firefox, Internet Explorer & Google Chrome.
    Is there anything i should be doing different when inserting flash files into web pages that have complex tables? Or is this a problem with Firefox?

  • Can't vertically center text within a table cell with a picture next to it

    I have a table and each cell has a picture in it (which was "cut" from another part of the document and "pasted" into the cells). Next to it, I typed a few words. I want the words to be centered vertically within the cell. However, everytime I click on the vertical centering in the inspector, it moves the picture and the text remains at the very bottom of the cell. The text is "tied" to the picture. I've tried everything... highlighting the text, same thing. Can't figure it out!! Is there any way to do this without inserting text boxes??

    Vertical align works on text within text boxes and within table cells.
    I have just checked this using a table with:
    *1st cell* Inline Picture with caption under. Cell sizes to fit
    *2nd cell* Same as first, picture scaled down. Text and image centre vertically.
    *3rd cell* Caption only, vertically centred.
    It works and I have wrap turn off on the image, before I pasted it in.
    On rereading the O.P.'s post it seems to be saying contradictory things. That the text is "tied to the picture" which is what you would expect of inline graphics and that the text is stuck in the bottom the cell.
    Without a picture and a better description of the problem we are none the wiser.
    I am just guessing but perhaps the O.P. has the image and Inline graphic on the same line and can't understand why the bottom of the text and the bottom of the image are aligned.
    If this is the case it is a misunderstanding of what inline graphic means. The image acts just like a character in the text and sits on the text baseline, it is not an independent object.
    It is possible to shift text next to the image or the image itself by selecting either and altering:
    +Inspector > Text > More > Baseline Shift+
    But frankly you would be better separating the 2 and putting the text in the cell to the left or right of the image.

  • Drop-down menu in table cells - how to expand over the column width?

    Hello!
    A client is migrating their 2,400 forms from old JetForms to PDF (LiveCycle Designer) and would like to keep the same functionalities he's used to in the old platform. However, some of the old tool features do not seem to be present in LiveCycle.
    Suppose a drop-down menu in a table cell, containing items which lengths are bigger than the table column. In JetForm, when you open the drop-down it spans over the columns to show all its contents, not cutting the drop-down list contents.
    I tried this in LiveCycle, but the drop-down gets cut and its contents are limited to the table column (hence the drop-down menu) width.
    Is there a way to work around this limitation, even if I have to use some scripting?
    Thank you for any ideas!
    Marcos

    Hi again, Niall!
    Thank you again for your great examples!
    The dynamic width drop-down will cover some of the client's expectations.
    However, they would like it to work even when the drop-down is within a table cell with a width smaller than the width they want the drop-down to show when the mouse enters the field.
    I'm afraid you will say this is not possible... Or at least not without a lot of coding, using subforms or the like.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you very much!

  • Numbering each Table cell down a column

    Hi I was wondering if there is an easy way to chronologically number the cells descending a
    table column so that the numbers will adjust automatically as rows are removed/added. The number should appear within the cell.
    This is InDesign CS3 on the Mac leopard OS
    Thanks

    Create a paragraph style, enable numbering in it, set the numbering style. Then apply that style to all the cells in the column you want numbered. Finally, you should type a space in each cell to show the number.
    This way, your rows are numbered atomatically and updated automatically when you delete rows. When you add new rows you'll have to apply the number style and type a space.

  • How can I start a new paragraph within the same table cell?

    In Numbers, when adding text within a table frame, how can I start a new line within the same frame (rather than advancing to the next cell)?  I'd like to enter a mini-list of several items of various lengths of data.

    While Wayne's answer solves your problem, another possibility is to uncheck the box at the bottom of the Table inspector for "Return key moves to next cell." If that is unchecked, the return key types a paragraph return within the cell (the same as Option Return with the box checked).
    With that box unchecked, Shift Return types a soft return (new line without a paragraph break).

  • How can I write into a table cell (row, column are given) in a databae?

    How can I write into a table cell (row, column are given) in a database using LabVIEW Database Toolkit? I am using Ms Access. Suppose I have three columns in a table, I write 1st row of 1st column, then 1st row of 3rd column. The problem I am having is after writing the 1st row 1st column, the reference goes to second row and if I write into 3rd column, it goes to 2nd row 3rd column. Any suggestion?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    When you do a SQL INSERT command, you create a new row. If you want to change an existing row, you have to use the UPDATE command (i.e. UPDATE tablename SET column = value WHERE some_column=some_value). The some_column could be the unique ID of each row, a date/time, etc.
    I have no idea what function to use in the toolkit to execute a SQL command since I don't use the toolkit. I also don't understand why you just don't do a single INSERT. It would be much faster.

  • How do I change the number formatting within a Cell Table in Microsoft Word?

    Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me out on an issue I've been having... I work for an accounting firm and we do a lot of financial statements.
    I was wondering if we would be able to treat a cell table in Microsoft Word 2007 like I would a cell table in Microsoft Excel. Meaning, I would like to change the formatting of the numbers in the table to the "Accounting" (number) format so it
    aligns by the decimal point and use the $ signs and () for negative numbers.  We do use the link tables feature, however, most of our balancing pages just can't be done in Excel because of the way the text is written. It would be much harder to format
    the text if it were to be typed in Excel. We have also tried  creating an Excel sheet within Microsoft Word but it is the same as linking the tables... Again, a text formatting issue.  The only option is to use tables within Word but how do we change
    the number formatting to a "accounting" (number) format where the numbers would align with the decimal point and use () for the negative numbers. Is there ANY option for us to do this other than manually entering this information in using tabs?
    If there are no options other than entering it in manually, please consider this as an option for your next software update. I believe that a LOT of people out there will be interested in this feature... My manager and I just attended a webinar on Microsoft
    Advanced Word Tips Tricks and Techniques and 75% of the attending people had this question but no answer.
    Thank you very much for your help!!!!!

    Word does not really have number formatting for table cells. You can align cell contents on the decimal point, though, by setting a so-called decimal tab stop.
    Option 1:
    - Select the cells for which you want to do this.
    - Display the ruler.
    - Click the Tab box on the left hand side of the ruler until the box contains an inverted T with a dot.
    - Click in the ruler where you want the decimal tab.
    Option 2:
    - Select the cells for which you want to do this.
    - Click the arrow in the lower right corner of the Paragraph group on the Home tab of the ribbon.
    - Click the Tabs... button in the lower left corner of the dialog.
    - Specify a tab position in the box, e.g. 1.5".
    - Select the 'Decimal' radio button under 'Alignment'.
    - Click Set.
    - Click OK.
    You will have to type the numbers as they should appear, including the $ for currency and the ( ) for negative numbers.

  • Numbers ought to keep check box that allows carriage return within a cell universally within a table

    Apple really fell asleep at the switch when releasing its latest version of Numbers 2013 (3.2), because it ignored the universal learning styles of human beings who have used the software in earlier releases and seemed to change features with little consideration for the community as a whole.
    For example, why would you delete the feature that allows a user to turn-on or turn-off the "carriage return within a cell".  It seems smart of them to add the abilityt to simply press the Option key and hit return at the same time to allow a carriage return within a cell, but why would you DELETE the feature that allows returns within a cell universally within a table?
    And then the Inspector got completely revised.
    Time saved in creating technologies gets eaten up in having to relearn technology every time a new release is created that doesn't build on the previous release very well.

    Adamo,
    You are complaining to fellow users.  It is best to post your feedback to Apple using the menu item

  • Autofit column width to table cell content in Pages

    Hello,
    Would anyone know how to autofit the column width of a table cell in Pages '09?
    I have searched Pages Help to no avail.
    Thank you very much in advance.

    There is a checkbox in the table inspector to auto-resize to fit content. Unfortunately, that only seems to work with rows, not columns.

  • BP Cockpit. Standard sap icon (e.g. ICON_OKAY) within a cell of XML table?

    Hello all,
    I have programmed a custom bp cockpit.
    I am able to build up the xml to show the data, but only with texts.
    Does anybody know how could I be able to insert an image (an standard SAP icon like "ICON_OKAY") in any of the table cells?
    Thank you very much in advance.
    Gonzalo Milla Millá

    Hello all again,
    finally, I found the way...
    The problem was that the standard XSLT conversion program 'CRM_CCKPT_CFS_SERVICE_DEFAULT' ignores the tag 'img' so... there's no way to insert images (at least within a table cell).
    I try to explain the solution:
    FIRST: Create own XSLT conversion program
    a. Go to transaction XSLT_TOOL
    b. Copy the standard conversion program 'CRM_CCKPT_CFS_SERVICE_DEFAULT' to a customer one... let's call it 'Z_CCKPT_CFS_SERVICE'.
    c. Modify this Z_CCKPT_CFS_SERVICE adding following lines:
    <xsl:when test="child::img=true()">
      <td class="table7" width="{@width}" nowrap="x">
        <img src="{child::img/@src}"/>
      </td>
    </xsl:when>
    insert this lines just before, and at the same level that
    <xsl:when test="@colspan=true()">
    Here we are telling to the conversion program how to translate XML code for images to HTML code (only when they are found between "td" tags)
    SECOND: Find icon path and insert it within XML code
    a. Go to your Z class for your infoblock (let's say Z_CL_INFOBLOCK) that inherits from CL_CRM_CCKPT_IOS and modify the GET_REPORT method
    b. Get the icon path:
    DATA:
      lc_icono TYPE string.
      lc_icono = cl_bsp_mimes=>sap_icon( 'ICON_OKAY' ).
    This way, we get the physical path to the icon.
    c. insert icon in xml code:
    DATA:
      lv_string TYPE string.
    CONCATENATE '<img src="' lc_icono '"/>'
      INTO lv_string.
    CALL METHOD crmcl_cckpt_templatesplitter=>fill_template
      EXPORTING
        iv_tagname  = 'S1'
        iv_string   = lv_string
      CHANGING
        cv_template = ls_template.
    Here, we are filling contents of tab 'S1' in the XML template LS_TEMPLATE with the line
    <img src="physical/path/of/your/icon.gif"/>
    , that will be "translated" with your Z XSLT conversion program Z_CCKPT_CFS_SERVICE
    THIRD: link Z conversion program ('Z_CCKPT_CFS_SERVICE') to your XML.
    a. Also within the GET_REPORT method, after the creation of the XML code, insert following line as the first one in the XML table (export parameter of the method):
    DATA:
      lw_meta TYPE string.
      lw_meta = '<meta:metadata xmlns:meta="urn:sap-com:document:sap:crm_cckpt:metadata" STYLESHEET="Z_CCKPT_CFS_SERVICE"/>'.
      INSERT lw_meta INTO lt_xml_temp INDEX 1.
      _et_xml_out[] = lt_xml_temp[].
      CLEAR et_xml_out.
      LOOP AT _et_xml_out INTO _ls_xml_out.
        CONCATENATE et_xml_out lv_newline _ls_xml_out INTO
                    et_xml_out.
      ENDLOOP.
    FOURTH: Finally, it works!!!
    You have your icon included as the content of a table cell...
    Hope this helps
    Best Regards
    Gonzalo Milla Millá

  • How important spacer.gif within table empty cell?

    I've always used a spacer image (or  ) within an empty cell over the years to keep consistency between browsers, and that it was recommended. Has anyone seen any stats on this in recent times? I'm curious which recent versions of browsers still have problems with this and if it's still that important to do so.
    One reason I ask is I'm needing several 1px height black table cells and it'd be nice if I didn't have to keep putting a 1x1 spacer within each empty cell. With my tests, I've check with several most recent browsers and they all render an empty black 1px height cell the same.
    Thanks.

    I don't know what kind of look your going for, but i wonder if you could achieve the same effect by using CSS to put a 1 pixel black border on something.
    I've found that with IE6 something needs to be in a cell for it to be affected by css. For example, if i use css to place a black border around all table cells IE6 won't apply the border to empty cells. Instead of putting a spacer image in the cell i use a non-blanking space ";nbsp".
