Combination of two XI response

Question

I've following scenario: SAP BACKEND <=> XI <=> WS with synchonous communication. SAP BACKEND initiates communication.
Till today I've clear situation. I've WSDL and described in it reponse e.g. (see below XML presentation of this reponse)

  <Function>someFunction</Function>
  <r>someResult</r>
</Result>
Now I need to extend response into this scenario
<Result>
  <Function>someFunction</Function>
  <r>someResult</r>
</Result>
<Fault>
  <faultcode>APP error</faultcode>
  <faulstring>some error description</faultstring>
</Fault>
The thing is that Fault comes into XI as a standard response (HTTP 200 ok) instead of any HTTP fault code. Therefore I'm not able to handle it as a Exception.
Is there easy way to extend existing MM,IM with this <Fault> tag without need of changing used DT and MT? Or is possible in XI to create new MM and IM and combine it with existing MM, IM by extending existing entries in IC with new MM and IM?
I hope I'm clear enough.

Hi,
in msg interface, you will have a req msg, response msg, fault msg.....your fault msg can have ExchangeFaultData as a data type.........then in your IM, you will also have a fault msg mapping.......then either your response will come or if any error occurs, then your fault msg will come.
