Combining xml using xsl

I have two xml files...
File1.xml

<field1 name="id">
<filed2 name="name">

file2.xml

<field1 type="int">
<field2 type="char">
<index ....>

I want to read file1.xml and update the field
attributes in file2.xml to contain the name attribute
and write the whole thing to file3.xml
So my output file3.xml should look like
file3.xml

<field1 name="id" type="int">
<field2 name="name" type="char">
<index ....>

Any ideas as to how do i do it??

• How to convert to ' ' in xml using xsl.

Hi all,
I have a string downloaded which has the following string
String= text1 text2 </I⁢
I have italics tag in my xml file. But my browser does not identifies italics. So i decided to comment out italics tag in my xml using xsl
So what i need is
String = text1 text2
basically to comment out italics tag alone.
How can i replace to ?
Is there any way in xsl to do the above in a string?
or
Any other ways where i can just remove in my out xml file using xsl?
Thanks in advance.
Menaga.

Hi,
The ultimate solution would be that you also install also a cocoon server (http://cocoon.apache.org/), but that might be overkill.
Have a look at /people/sap.user72/blog/2004/11/10/bsphowto-generate-pdf-output-from-a-bsp for detailed info on creating PDF from BSP.
If you want to use XSL(-FO), you might have a look at things like http://alt-soft.com/products_xml2pdf.jsp to be called as external command.

• XSL-1009 error in XML to XML using XSL

I'm using XSL to transform one XML format to another using and XSL transform file. I'm initiating this with ORAXSL in.xml transform.xsl out.xml. The XSL file has in it:

<xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/Java" version="1.0">
<xsl:import href="../generic/parsePOHeader.xsl"/>
<xsl:import href="../generic/parsePOLine.xsl"/>
<xsl:output method="xml" indent="yes"/>
<xsl:template match="/">
ORAXSL gives an error of XSL-1009: Attribute xsl:version not found in XSL:Stylesheet.
Putting an XSL: prefix on the version doesn't help. A search for help on this site had a solution for XSL that create HTML.
Has anyone else solved this problem?

Thanks everyone for th ereply. Yes, I tested the mapping in integration bulider and it works fine. Even the file conversion works fine intermittantly! Sometimes it converts successfully and wrties file to target location and sometimes I get this error. I checkd in sxi_cache and I see the mapping xsl files there. I jus had basis reboot PI server and run some cache commands but still same problem! Also, when I have to files in source directory sometimes it converts both, sometimes one and sometimes both fails! I haveno clue what els to try.
What are adapter nodes and wher can I check for that?
Thanks.

• Transform XML using XSL, output XML

Hi all,
I have an xml document and I want to transform it using an xsl file. As a result I want an xml document, it's possible? Anyone could help me?

That 's exactly what XSLT does. Learn more about it here: http://www.ibiblio.org/xml/books/bible2/chapters/ch17.html

• Java.lang.OutOfMemory error when transforming xml using xsl with Weblogic 6.1 sp2

Hello,
I have an OutOfMemoryError when applying an xsl transformation to generate html
code in a web page. I'm running Weblogic 6.1 sp2
I think the problem comes from the objectin which th html is stored during the
transformation. The problem only occurs from a minimal xml size. I could fix
it by increasing JVM allocated size but I would like to find a more flexible solution.
If I know an other way to solve this problem, I really would appreciate !
Thanl you,
Laurent.

Hello,
You might try asking your question in the JSP newsgroup:
http://newsgroups.bea.com/cgi-bin/dnewsweb?cmd=xover&group=weblogic.developer.interest.jsp
There just may not be a more flexible solution :-)
This doc may be of some value, see chapter 2:

XML page cannot be displayed cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet Please correct the error and then click the REfresh

Is the error message displayed in Firefox or in IE, or in a customized window that doesn't identify the browser?
''If it displays in Firefox:''
It's possible that the Troubleshooter doesn't work correctly unless IE is your default browser. You could test that possibility by having IE make itself the default and testing the Troubleshooter again.
''If it displays in IE or embedded in another Microsoft application:''
In a web search I found these suggestions:
(1) Reset your Internet Explorer settings, according to http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie8-windows_7/cannot-view-xml-using-xsl-style-sheet/ccfe80c6-c0db-4594-a7e3-475f9eac0e85
(2) Try the System File Checker, according to http://ask-leo.com/why_do_i_get_the_xml_page_cannot_be_displayed_after_running_a_microsoft_troubleshooter.html
Any luck?

Hello guys! I have been assigned the same task,i.e to generate pdf through xml using xsl stylesheet.
I have a procedure which is creating the xml and the stylesheet. But I have no idea how to write the procedure which passes this xml to fo engine. I am very new to this. Can anyone please share your thoughts with me so as how to accomplish this? By reading blogs on internet I figured I would have to use UTIL_HTTP but don't know how.

• Problem using xsl to convert xml to xml

I have and xml doc that has a format similar to this:

<ORDER_NUMBER>
<ORDER_DATE>
<LINE>
<LINE_NUMBER>

</LINE>
<LINE_NUMBER>

</LINE>

When I convert from xml to xml using xsl I do not get the second occurence of <LINE>, everything else looks fine.
Please help.
Thanks, John

Hi John,
I also have problems to convert xml to xml by xsl at command-line interface as follows.
CLASSPATH=$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/jlib/xsu12.jar:$ORACLE_HOME/lib/xmlparserv2.jar:$ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib/classes12.zip
java oracle.xml.parser.v2.oraxsl source.xml -s myxsl.xsl destination.xml
and I received error message as "Error occurred while processing myxsl.xsl: Error in expression: '*|/'."
Actually, the source xml file and xsl script I used were copied from the book "Professional XML".
Do you know what's the problem and could you show me setting for the classpath?
Thanks.

XSL-1000: (Fatal Error) Error while parsing XSL file (Extension function namespace should start with 'http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/'.).
What kind of namespace I should specify?

Hello, Paul.
I'm sure you may not use JavaScript as a language for creating XSLT extention functions with Oracle XDK Parser. This is since parser might have JavaScript interpreter to work with JavaScript, but it has not.
If you need to build any XSLT extention functions you must build them as Java class' static methods.
After that, you define the usage of the class by mean of namespace declaration as:
xmlns:your-ns="http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/yourpackage.Yourclass"
(Prefix "http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/" may differs if you use non-Oracle XML parser)
and use class' static method in XSLT:
<xsl:value-of select="your-ns.staticMethodName(paramsIfAny)"/>
In your case you may wish to use standard Date class:
xmlns:date="http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/java.util.Date"
<xsl:value-of select="date:toString(date:new)"/>

Your PL/SQL code doesn't produce a valid XML document.
In the XML grammar, "&" is a special character and must be escaped using the character entity "&".
If you were using standard methods to build XML from Oracle (SQL/XML functions for instance), I'm sure you wouldn't have this error.
Please show us the PL/SQL code you're using to produce this XML output and we'll be able to help you further.

• ENTITIES and transforming XML to XML/HTML using XSL

I am going absolutely nuts. When using XSL to transform an XML
file to HTML or another XML schema, critical entities dissappear.
For example:
<oldtag>press "any" key</oldtag>
will get rendered to
<newtag>press "any" key</newtag>
by the XML/XSL parser, which is not valid HTML or XML.
How do I preserve these entities through the transformation
process. Escaping the text (in the XML source) with ]]
is not possible in this case.--Michael
null

Assuming you can't use a CDATA in the DTD to prevent parsing,
then my suggestion would be to use the XSL stylesheet to restore
the entities as there is no way that I am aware of that will set
conditional expansion.

• Converting XML document to HTMl using xsl

Hi,
I'm trying to convert an xml document into html page using xsl. But when I try to open the page in the browser nothing comes up.
I'm not sure if I am using the PrintWriter correctly.
StreamResult result = new StreamResult(new PrintWriter(new (File"text.html")));
Please help.

Oops! I wrote the parenthesis wrong in the previous mail
This is the correct one I use in my program.
StreamResult result = new StreamResult(new PrintWriter(new File("text.html")));
Please help. Its urgent
