Command to share a folder with hyphens

I need to share a folder via cmd for use in a batch file hence the %computername% part. The file is %computername%-scan and is located in the root of c drive and will be shared with a share name of %computername% where %computername% is the pc's hostname to
a local user which i used in administrator mode.
net share %computername%=c:\"%computername%-scan" /GRANT:scan,CHANGE
I used the above command to share it but it is not successful. However, if i remove the -scan from the filename and the command with the quote marks, the sharing works. Is there a special option for sharing a folder with symbols and characters?

Hello,
Try this this will work....
net share %computerName%=C:\%computerName%-Scan /GRANT:UserName,CHANGE
pause

  • Unable to share a folder with specific users

    Hi,
I'm attempting a seemingly simple task on my home network of 4 computers. I want to share a folder located on one computer, called PC1, with another computer called PC2 with full read/write permission. All other machines on the network are not to have access
to this folder. Both machines are running Windows 7.
On PC2, I am able to see the shared folder under Networks but if I try to open it, I keep getting a 'You do not have permission to access...' error. The following are the steps I've taken to set up the network share.
Both machines are on the same workgroup.
Both machines are on the home network, not work/public.
Turned off homegroup on both machines in Advanced Networking Properties by selecting "Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers".
Created a standard non-admin user account on PC1 that has the same username/password as the admin login used to log into PC2.
On PC1, right-clicked the folder I want to share and added the above user account to both the Sharing and Security tabs.
Removed the Everyone group in PC1 from both the Sharing and Security tab for the shared folder.
If I am missing a step, please let me know. I have noticed that if I add  the Everyone group back to the Sharing and Security tab for the shared folder on PC1, I am able to have full access from PC2. However, since I want to restrict access
to this folder to only one machine, I didn't want to have the Everyone group listed.

    Hi,
When you close the document, the temp files associated with this document are not deleted if you only have Read and Write permissions. The Delete permission is needed for users to saving Office files.
For more detaile information, please refer to the thread below:
Windows NTFS permissions are required when you run Word on any NTFS partition that has Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional, Windows Server 2003, or Windows Vista installed

  • How do I share a folder over the internet with Mountain Lion server?

I am new to using formal servers.  In Snow Leopard I was able to use web sharing to serve a small website and if I wanted to share a folder with someone I would  just provide the person I wanted to share a file with the path to the file inside the sites directory.  With Mountain Lion this functionality was removed from the sharing section of system preferences.
I purchased mountain lion server and was able to restore the website serving ability, but I haven't been able to figure out how to share a folder.  I am still looking over what documentation I can find, but for the most part it just tells me to set up the services without telling me how.  Any assistance would be helpful.  Networking is not my area of expertise.
    Best Regards,
    David Finell

I purchased server to assist with this as I am unfamiliar with the command line protocols for using apache.  Because of the UNIX architechture of OSX and I presume apache, I am uncomfortable using the command line for fear of causing serious problems.
Unfortunately, the documentation that I have seen for mountain lion server is wanting in either its completeness or layout/functionability.  To summarize the server instructions as I understand them.  It just says to configure it and my system to meet my requirements without telling me how.
I am confident that both the apache command line and server are capable of accomplishing what I was able to do before under snow leopard.  I just haven't figured out how.
I was able to provide a link to family and clients like http://ipaddress/~user/folder
    This no longer works.

  • How do I share a folder on mac mini with other macs in the network?

    Howdy all!
The scenario I have in mind is that I have one folder in our Mac Mini (used as Home Theater) with all the family's music files on it. The rest of the family would be able to access the folder and copy the music they prefer onto their own computers (iMacs and Macbooks). The other computers would have read only access, they would not be able to alter the contents of the original file (to prevent accidental deletion). Only the user of the Mini Home Theater could alter the contents of said file.
I have tried pulling up the "Get Info" window and clicking the "Shared Folder" and "Locked" boxes, but all this seems to do is make the user of the Mac Mini unable to alter the contents of the folder. All the other macs on the network can access and alter the folder contents no problem.
    What am I missing?
Thank you for any advice you can give!

This isn't quite what I was looking for. I don't want to share the folder with users on the same computer--I want to share the folder with users on other computers.
Unless there is some way to identify users on other computers. How can I do that?

  • Share OneDrive Biz folder with Customers

Our business model relies upon customers or potential customers sending us data files. Usually in the pre-contract stage , the file exchange is ad hoc and person to person. Usually through email. If a file is too big, we have FTP but a portion of the customers don't have the skillset to use FTP effectively. We get asked if we have drop box or the like.We do have E3 Office 365, and I do know you can create a folder in OneDrive Business and share it with someone by sending an invite to their email address. But the only way that person could get into the folder is by using a Microsoft Account. So obviously that creates a heavy obstacle. How do you approach this? I was thinking of some options, Im not a big fan of either.1 - Each time we need to share a folder create a user account that belongs to us. When sharing a folder with external...

    Hi Jarkaos2013,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to share one folder in OneDrive for Business with a SharePoint 2013 online group.
By default, you can only share one folder with users or groups in the local domain. You can create a group in AD, then share one OneDrive folder with the group. However, you are not able to share a folder with a SharePoint 2013 online group.
    I hope this helps.

  • Share external drive with network PCs?

    Hi all-
Figured I'd ask here as there are probably more people with an interest in sharing external drives...
Anyway: I'm on a network, but need to set up a dedicated hard drive to share with 1 other person with a PC. The drive will hold all kinds of working files, and we need to be able to open and edit documents from this drive.
Been reading around, but for some reason this task seems harder than I thought it would be...
What's the best way to do this? If necessary, we can set up  a drive on his computer.
    Thanks!!
    Andrew

    Hi Linc-
    thanks for the help.
Unfortunately, I'm not really following - and still have questions -
    1) Does the external drive need to be formatted NTSF?
    2) Can the drive be connected to either computer?
    3) What do you mean by the "credentials of a user on the server" ?  This sounds like I need to give my credentials to the other guy I want to share the folder with... that's not going to happen. Maybe I'm misunderstanding.
Not sure if I'm on the right track here..
    cheers

  • How can I share the home folder with different accounts on the same mac?

    Hi, here's a question:
How can I share the home folder with different accounts on the same mac?
The whole point being not to have to install all my apps, and move all my files each time between users.
The second thing would be to be able to modify one document on one account, and have it changed on the other account without having to copy it.
I would like to have a pro and a private account on my mac.
    Thanks for you answers,
    Doug

Your apps should not be installed in your home folder--they should be in /Applications where every user can access them.
If you want to share things between users on the same Mac, use the /Users/Shared folder. Keep your home folder private. Trying to defeat the protections on the home folder subfolders just gets messy. I've never bothered to figure out all of the problems associated with it so I can't explain how to do it.
Even with using Shared, you would need to alter the ACLs on the shared folder in order to allow both users to modify the documents.
You must create a Group in Users & Groups and put each user in that group. Then create a folder inside /Users/Shared where you want to share the various files.
Then, add an ACL to the shared folder that gives the group special permissions. on that folder.
    sudo chmod -R +a "<sharinggroup> allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,add_subdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directory_inherit" /Users/Shared/<sharing folder>
Replace <sharinggroup> and <sharingfolder> with the name of your group and your folder. Then, run the command in the Terminal.
With that ACL, each user in <sharinggroup> will be able to alter the files created by any user in the group in that <sharingfolder>.
Essentially, the client OS is not designed for true file sharing among the individual users. It is designed to isolate each user account from the others.

  • Share folder with some family members

    Hello,
I have one Imac with several users (wife and kids). I like to share some data with my wife without access by the kids. That means I want to have a folder, where both of us can save files and have read/write access to the files. It seems difficult, that files inherit the rights from an given folder.
What I managed to get was: administrator is changing the rights of the existing files and both have read/write access. BUT if a new file is added, only the person how added the file had read/write access. So I as Administrator have to change the rights anew.
What do I have to do, to pass the rights of the folder to new generated files?
    Does anyone know a solution?

Just change your iPhone's sync settings -- with your iPhone connected to iTunes, click on the Apps tab and choose to sync only selected apps, then choose the ones you want loaded. You can also drag and drop them to where you want them on your iPhone.
