Commit inside backing bean

Hi,
I have a submit button in a page. In the action, I gave the page flow that redirects to another page and in the action listerner, I gave the method that it needs to execute. In the method, I am doing some insert rows into a viewObject and I need to do a AM Commit. How to do that? If I drag the commit button into this submit button, the action gets changes to commit.execute. How to do the AM Commit in the backing bean?
Thanks
Saru

Here's how I did it.
1) Create the commit operation in your data binding. Bind to your AM.
2) In your backing bean lookup the OperationBinding. (I used the ADFUtil.java from the StoreFrontModule example code for this.)
OperationBinding commitOperation = ADFUtils.findOperation("Commit");
3) Then just do:
commitOperation.execute();

  • General Rule on manipulating ViewObjects inside backing bean

    I've read in some articles and thread posts by that it is not advisable to manipulate ViewObjects inside a backin bean?
    Are there any exceptions to this rule?
    I have scenario where in my ViewObject is initially created and set to a MaxFetchSize(0) so that on the initial page load, I will just create a new blank row and BC4J will not query any data. However, there is also Search/Find buttons on the same page/viewobject that will query the database. So i will need to edit MaxFetchSize to a positive number so only then, data is queried from the DB. I put it in a backing bean method:
    public String find() {
    OperationBinding ob = (OperationBinding)bindings.get("Execute");
    ViewObject vo = iteratorBinding.getViewObject();
    vo.setMaxFetchSize(10);
    ob.execute();
    }So in effect, I manipulated the ViewObject inside the backing bean. Can this be considered an exception to the rule or best practice?
    regards,
    Anton

    Anton,
    you can call that method without writing a custom method in the VO. Just add an entry like this to your page def:
    <methodAction IterBinding="SomeView1Iterator" id="setMaxFetchSize" MethodName="setMaxFetchSize"
                      RequiresUpdateModel="true" Action="999" IsViewObjectMethod="true" DataControl="AppModuleDataControl"
                      InstanceName="AppModuleDataControl.SomeView1">
          <NamedData NDName="val" NDValue="10" NDType="int"/>
        </methodAction>and in your backing bean:
        public String setMaxFetchSize_action() {
             FacesContext fc = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
             ValueBinding vb = fc.getApplication().createValueBinding("#{bindings}");
             DCBindingContainer dc = (DCBindingContainer) vb.getValue(fc);
             OperationBinding operationBinding = dc.getOperationBinding("setMaxFetchSize");
             operationBinding.execute();
             if (operationBinding.getErrors().isEmpty()){
                 System.out.println("operation successful");
             else
                 System.out.println("operation failed");
            return null;
        }no need to write and expose a VO client method.

  • Problem with Commit button When Backing bean is in Request Scope...

    HI Everybody,
    I have a Backing Bean in request scope having over 1000 lines of code, And in my JSPX page I have a table binding with a view object and At run time when user select the row in table and click the edit button so user will be able to edit that selected row in the same table at run time.. but the problem is : when the user enters some data in the Editable inputTexts and then clicks save(Commit), then the save button doesn't work..but when i delete any selected row and then press save then it is working fine..
    And to test it in Session scope i made another sample page where every thing is working very fine..
    Now i want to know What is the difference between Session scope and request scope bean...
    And is there any solution to Save editable input text in Request scope?.
    Also want to know that is it safe to set the scope of my main bean class to session scope without effecting the current running functionality? which is having over 1000 lines of code and lot of component has been placed...
    Please help me to resolve this problem...
    Thanks in Advance to all of you
    Fizzz..

    Hi Frank...
    In my code i used almost same logic as Andrejus Baranovskis has explained in his Editable Table example...
    You can refer that example to see what problem I'm facing...
    http://andrejusb.blogspot.com/2007/04/create-edit-and-delete-operations-in.html
    The Bean Scope in this Example is Session scope...Save button is working fine...
    But as i Change the bean scope to Request scope then Save button is not working for Edit but it is working for Delete Action very well..
    I want that save button should work also for Edit action in Request Scope..
    Please Make me understand that why it is happened like that..
    and help me to find the solution..
    and Also if you have a better document to Explain the life cycle of Application in Different Bean Scope...So please provide me that Doc to me...
    It would be a great help for me to understand the concept of session...
    Thanks Frank

  • Applying viewcriteria inside the backing bean

    Hi Experts,
    Currently i am building one table based on the View object. In that view object i have an attribute which returns true or false.
    My requirement in the page i need to have a check box and if the user selects the check box then i need to show the records where the attribute is true. In case of check box deselection then i need to show all the entries (please note not the entries where the attribute value is false)
    So i have created one view criteria in the view object and handled the checked box selection inside my backing bean. However it seems the criteria is not apply to the model. Any idea? or any other way i can implement this.
    Apart from this i tried the checked box inside the column filter facet. However the issue is if check box is selected then that filters only true entries. deselected then the false entries. If i use the drop down list then i can implement my requirement without any issue.
    -t
    here the code segment
    DepartmentVOImpl securityCompVO =
    (DepartmentVOImpl )findDataControl("ManageDepartmentAMDataControl").getApplicationModule().findViewObject("DepartmentVO1");
    if (selected) {
    //Apply the criteria
    ViewCriteria criteria =
    departmentVO.getViewCriteriaManager().getViewCriteria("DepartmentVOCriteria");
    criteria.setProperty(ViewCriteriaHints.CRITERIA_AUTO_EXECUTE, Boolean.TRUE);
    departmentVO.applyViewCriteria(criteria);
    departmentVO.executeQuery();
    } else {
    //remove the criteria
    departmentVO.removeApplyViewCriteriaName("DepartmentVOCriteria");
    departmentVO.executeQuery();
    Util.refreshComponent(richTable);

    User,
    I would personally not like this code.
    You should not get access to the AM in the view layer.
    What i would advice you to do is from your backing bean call an AM service method passing the checkbox value (selected or not) . In the Service method get access to the VO and then apply the viewcritera using VO.setApplyViewCriteria() and finally reexecute the VO.

  • Value from backing bean in javascript confirm in 10.1.3

    Hallo,
    Please help
    I have 2 problems:
    Page with 1 record, where 8 items are updatable.
    In entity I 've a method where I set a value in bean. (BotId1 is one of these 8 updatebale items)
    What I expect: when I change a value in BotId1 the value of botId in ValiderenBotBean will be also changed
    public void setBotId1(Number value) {
    setAttributeInternal(BOTID1, value);
    EL.set("#{ValiderenBotBean.botId}",BotId.toString());
    My bean (session scope):
    package viewcontroller.pagedefs.produceren.backing;
    import org.apache.commons.logging.Log;
    import org.apache.commons.logging.LogFactory;
    public class ValiderenBotBean

    Problem nr.1:
    When I call the button I do not see any logging that indicate that the value is set in backing bean
    Workaround: I made item on my page depending on item where I put my code.
    Result: I have to press 2 times on my button to execute the button code. First time to make the validation and the second time the button code itself.
    Not nice. The validation is also slow.
    But ok:
    Problem 2:
    I still get the same error, I see logging of execution of my validation.
    There is also the difference between loggings is 2 cases:
    If I use
    onclick="if (validateForm('dataForm')){return((#{ValiderenBotBean.botId} + 'la')}"
    what I really want instead of
    onclick="if (validateForm('dataForm')){return'la')}"
    I get:
    17-feb 14:28:40 DEBUG (ValiderenBotBean) -getBotId : -1
    17-feb 14:28:40 DEBUG (ValiderenBotBean) -getBotId : -1
    It means that value is obtained correctly.
    But still the same error.
    If I put for test purpose
    the following code into my bean:
    public String getBotId() {
    log.debug("getBotId : " + this.botId);
    botId = "23";
    return this.botId;
    I do not get any error.
    Any ideas?
    Please help

    Thanks, Amit,
    I will try it tomorrow.
    Some remarkes:
    1. I need javascript for confirmation
    2. I really do not PPR. It takes so long. The user use the scanner to put the value into input items in order speed up the process. And now PPR...
    3. My transient attribute will depend on 8 items. Even more waiting process.
    What I really want is to execute my db function only 1 time "onclick" or "oncommit" and according to outcome of db-function ask user for confirmation of commit.
    I tried already to implement dialog from ADF with launchDialog function.
    But ReturnListener did not function while I launch the Dialog manually.

  • Is it possible to call a custom method in App Module from a backing bean?

    I would like to know if a custom method in App Module can be called from inside a backing bean.
    I am not sure if it is logically right to call, from a backing bean, a custom method in App Module. But would like to know if that makes sense or if it is possible.

    Hi..
    Yes it is possible.You have to add that method for client interface of AppModule.Now you can see that method in Data Controls(Refresh the data control). To call this method using bean it should add as method action to bindings(Click Bindings>+>methodAction>and Create action binding).
    Now you can call this method in bean class.
    Check following example use this concept to execute view criteria

  • Action method of backing bean called multiple times instead of once.

    Hi,
    My backing bean has an action method called "saveEquipmentList" that's called when a "Save" button is clicked. The problem is, this method gets executed twice every time the button is clicked so data gets peristed twice, db triggers get executed twice, etc., it's really pretty annoying. I've put the bean method's code and the JSF command button below, notice that there's a check for FacesContext.getRenderResponse() that I put in for debugging, the code doesn't get executed at all if I leave the FacesContext.getRenderResponse() in, sure, you're saying "So what's you point", no point, just thought I'd explain why the check is in there.
    Thanks,
    Alex
    public synchronized String saveEquipmentList() throws Exception {
    // Order is very important.
    if (FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getRenderResponse()) {
    System.out.println("GOT RENDER RESPONSE... XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX");
    try {
    loadEquipmentCodesMap(); // Loads map from equip_code_ids in the DB.
    updateEquipCodesMap(); // Updates total for objcode/type to sum of equipment items for that objcode/type.
    saveEquipmentCodes(); // Saves to equipment_codes table.
    loadEquipmentCodesMap();
    updateDataList();
    savedataList();
    updateTotals();
    loadEquipmentList();
    catch (Exception e) {
    setErrMessage("Error saving equipment: " + e.getMessage());
    return "success";
    }else{
    //facesContext.getCurrentInstance().renderResponse();
    return "success";

    Here's the phase listener output before clicking the "Save" button (which calls the saveEquipmentList() action method), I pasted it all, from app started to breakpoint, couldn't get it all in due to the 30K char constraint:

  • Passing params to the AMImp method from backing bean

    Hello. I am an ADF/Jdeveloper Noob and i have a requirement where I have created an AM method below and exposed it to my View Controller.
    I am using Jdeveloper 11..1.1.4 to doe this.
    //In AM
    public boolean createSRTask(String sourceName, Number sourceRow)
    //insert new row in the Entity Object.
    EntityDefImpl SRTaskDef = MassSrImportEOImpl.getDefinitionObject();
    MassSrImportEOImpl newSRTask = (MassSrImportEOImpl)SRTaskDef.createInstance2(getDBTransaction(), null);
    newSRTask.setSourceName(sourceName);
    newSRTask.setSourceRow(sourceRow);
    return(true);
    I have a text file i am reading and I get the parameters from processing that file when the user presses the upload button... I can loop thru the file contents etc. with no issues but i have yet
    to figure out how to code the backing bean to call the AMImp method with the parameters I have read in.
    Thank you in advance for any help.

    In this case you should build a VO which is build on EO, add it to the data model of the application module. The you can either implement the service method in the VO or the application module. Let's assume you put it in the am (application module) like you already did. the method there would look like
    //In AM
        public boolean createSRTask(String sourceName, Number sourceRow) {
            ViewObjectImpl massView = (ViewObjectImpl)findViewObject("MassSrImportView1");
            Row row =  massView.createRow();
            row.setAttribute("Source", sourceName);
            row.setAttribute("SRCNR", sourceRow);
            massView.insertRow(row);
            return true;
        }Some note on this:
    1. the rows are not inserted in the db as long as you don't commit the transaction
    2. It look like your view does not have a PK. The framework works better if you have one
    3. If you always return true, you can omit the return value totally
    4. If you plan to insert multiple rows you should consider passing hte file to the am method and do a bulk insert in there as this would minimize round trips.
    I strongly recommend the you read the http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E25054_01/web.1111/b31974/bcintro.htm to get more knowledge about the business layer.

  • Calling a backing bean method by clicking on an image.

    I have several HtmlGraphicImage (h:graphicImage) objects on a page. I would like to be able to call a method inside the backing bean for the JSP page where the images are located when the user clicks on one of the images, and have a parameter sent to that method in the backing bean that will tell it which image was clicked on.
    How can this be done? Unlike buttons that have an action that gets listend to in the backing bean, HtmlGraphicImage objects do not have actions. I know that you can intercept clicks by an onClick Javascript method, but how can you call a mehtod in the backing bean using the Javascript onClick?
    For example, part of my JSP looks like this:
               <body style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); -rave-layout: grid">
                    <h:form binding="#{InitialReport.form1}" id="form1">
                        <h:graphicImage binding="#{InitialReport.frontalImage}" height="204" id="frontalImage" style="left: 144px; top: 240px; position: absolute" width="242"/>
                        <h:graphicImage binding="#{InitialReport.profileImage}" height="198" id="profileImage" style="left: 432px; top: 240px; position: absolute" width="244"/>
                        <h:graphicImage binding="#{InitialReport.smileImage}" height="198" id="smileImage" style="left: 720px; top: 240px; position: absolute" width="244"/>If my backing bean (InitialReport.java) had a method that looked like this:
      public void setCurrentImage(String imageName)what would the javascript look like in order to send a name to setCurrentImage?
    Thanks!

    you can use the <h:button> with type='image'Thanks for the reply, but I cannot use that. The thing is, the images are read at run time from a database and are not present in the resources. The button's image only takes String file names, not URLs.
    There should be a way to do this using onClick.

  • Error when I call a method of AppModule from a backing bean.

    I use Jdeveloper 10.1.3.0.3 EA.
    In my application I have created ApplModule and UsrView(for my table USR).
    I have a login page (login.jsp and the backing login.java) with 2 fields userName and password and an ADF Faces Core command button (cmdCheckPass) and the method cmdCheckPass _action() for the click event .
    The problem is that I can’t call method testPassword(userName, password) which is written in AppModule. (I get error:
    javax.faces.FacesException: #{backing_login.cmdCheckPass_action}: javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: java.lang.NullPointerException) from line:
    answer = app.testPass(st1,st2);
    The code is as follows:
    public String cmdCheckPass_action() {
    String answer="";
    String mes = "";
    String st1=this.getInputText1().getValue().toString();
    String st2=this.getInputText2().getValue().toString();
    AppModuleImpl app = new AppModuleImpl();
    answer = app.testPass(st1,st2);
    if (answer == "OK") {
    return "toMain";
    } else {
    answer = "";
    mes="Invalid username, password !!!";
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addMessage(null,new FacesMessage(mes));
    return answer;}
    I don’t know if theoretically is right to call, from a backing bean, a custom method of AppModule.
    Can I have any help on this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Panos

    Some quick ideas:
    Is the clip the same NTSC/PAL standard as the project you are importing it to?
    Have you tried to rename the offending clip (do NOT rename any clips inside the iMovie /Media folder!!).
    How much free space do you have on the iMovie project volume -- what is the size of the imported clip?

  • Need to Add and Remove Columns of ADF Read Only table from Backing bean

    I have a scenario where I am trying to Populate TransientVO which is shown has a ADF Read Only Table in page.
    I have couple of Check Boxes Based on their selection I am trying to render and hide certain Columns.
    But the Issue which I am facing is only the Column Header seems to change where as the Rows and Values doesnt..
    even If I apply the expression language rendering condition on the outputText inside those columns.. ..
    So I am thinking to add and remove VO Attribute columns to the table from backing bean.
    Need some sample code snippet or a better design to achieve this. Its kind of urgent too...having an aggressive deadline :(
    Please chip in People..

    You can use:

        Application app = ctx.getApplication();
        ValueBinding bind = app.createValueBinding(expression);

    BindingContainer bc = (BindingContainer) resolveExpression("#{bindings}");John

  • Error when calling Stored Procedure from backing bean

    I am using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.6 and am trying to utilize the following URL to execute a SP from a backing bean: http://ramannanda.blogspot.com/2011/11/optimized-update-insert-adf.html
    The reason I am looking at this is currently I have coded my backing bean to perform inserts and deletes through the use of my View Objects. I am performing up to a combined 5-10K inserts and deletes and the performance is rather slow. If there is a way to tune the view objects as well as the commit to be much faster, that is the prefered method. If that can't be done then I would like to figure out the approach identified in the URL.
    I have highlighted a section of code below that is failing when using the URL approach. It errors out with the following exception: javax.el.ELException: oracle.jbo.JboException: java.sql.SQLException: Internal Error: Inconsistent catalog view
    Do you have thoughts as to what might cause this exception.

    That was helpful and now I can execute up to my last line of code: "lOracleCallableStatement.executeUpdate();"
    This code executes the SP.
    My SP is as follows:
    create or replace
    PROCEDURE          SP_TEST

    param2 IN VARCHAR2) as

    FOR temp_update IN for_insert_csr

  • Throwing error from backing bean on button click?

    Hi Everyone,
    i have two lovs out of 2 lovs user has to select atleast one lov value and click on find button.
    On clicking on find button im getting lov values if atleast one is not selected i need to throw one error message.
    How can i throw error message?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    i used this code:
    public String showMessage() {
    System.out.println("inside error msg");
    String messageText="Please select emp or ename";
    FacesMessage fm = new FacesMessage(messageText);
    * set the type of the message.
    * Valid types: error, fatal,info,warning
    //fm.setSeverity(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_INFO);
    fm.setSeverity(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_ERROR);
    FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    context.addMessage(null, fm);
    System.out.println("end of error msg");
    return null;
    And called this method on clicking on find button in the method binding of the find button but it didnt show any error dialog bax rather it moved to the next page as usual.
    Code in the find backing bean:
    public String Find(){
    if(Emp.equalsIgnoreCase("ALL") && EmpNo.equalsIgnoreCase("ALL")) {
    String k=this.showMessage();
    return "Find"; // to navigate to next page
    what to do now?

  • JDeveloper, ADF, Quartz: Quartz Using different Classpath than Backing bean

    Hi,
    I have an ADF 10g application. When i get an Application module using Configuration.createRootApplicationModule, it works fine in normal java class or backing bean.
    Now i have an quartz configured in this project. The same code does not work in Quartz Job class.
    When i print the classpath using System.getProperty("java.class.path") in normal java class or backing bean, then it considers everything along with BC4J jar files. But when i print the same thing in quartz job, it has only two jar files inside its class path: C:\JDeveloper\j2ee\home\oc4j.jar;C:\JDeveloper\jdev\lib\jdev-oc4j-embedded.jar.
    Can anyone let me know what could be the issue if someone has configured Quartz with JDeveloper and ADF application.
