COMMIT problem in TopLink, Struts, JSP and ADF Databinding sample

In the sample Developing a J2EE Application using TopLink, Struts, JSP and ADF Databinding,
I followed all the steps to build a department browse page and a edit page.
But when I get to Step number 23 in "Create a JSP to Edit Departments" I have a problem with the commit.
Only after I make a change in the form and click the sumbit button, the commit and rollback buttons become active. And After I click the commit button the data gets commited to the database but the page inofmation changes to the very first department record, not the current one.
How do I make those buttons active with out the extra click on the submit?
After I click the commit button, how do I keep the current data on the screen?

For #1, I was able to do the following and get away with not having to press submit first. I just removed the bindings for disable. I hope that does not cause any problems?

For #2, How I add an action on an HTML button? My UIModel.xml for the edit department page currently has two actions on it. Commit and RollBack. Is it linked through the "name" attribute of the input tag?

Problem with html:select or html:options tags using struts,jsp and tomcat

I'm updating a Struts-Project to a new layout and therefore rework all jsp Sites.
I'm also using a new Folder-Structure and update therefore my struts-config file.
My Problem now is:
Till now, we had a select-field with a code like this:

The problem now is, that whenever I use any <html:xy> tag, the tomcat server I use can not show the page, he shows just the headers of the template, but not the
content.-jsp-File where the form would be in. He stops right in the middle of the html page, when he notices the <html:xy> tags.
And the funny thing is, that he has no problem to show a page when there is a <html:errors> within it? Why could this be? the struts-html.tld File is well included and teh Tomcat Server shows no exceptions.

I have a JSP-Struts application. By the default generation, JDeveloper build a main.html Page. This page have many Frames and one Frame is "navFrame". On this frame I have a link for a JSP Page : Browse. The call is OK. No Problems.
No I have another Page with Tiles :

Problem in debuging jasper reports and ADF

I am using JDeveloper 11.1.2.2.0. Inside I created Fusion Web Application ADF, and on the index page created Go button. Now I created Servlet with doGet methode and conncected it to Go button. It is working OK.
Now I want to run simple jasper report from servlet. Jasper report is based on empty dataset. Here is servlet code:

I found solution. It should be used like this:
InputStream reportStream = new FileInputStream(new File("C:/Users/myDomain/Desktop/Reporting/ReportPDFPrazan.jasper"));
So problem was in input stream. It works fine now.

Problems with JNDI between JSP and EJB

I've got a problem related to EJB and JNDI.
I want to run methods of an EJB that is in Weblogic, from a JSP that runs IPlanet. When I try to execute getInitialContext() I catch a NamingException. The error description is :Cannot instantiate class: weblogic.jndi.T3InitialContextFactory
I have this code in the JSP:

I have two weblogic jars (weblogicaux.jar and one service pack of weblogic) in the iplanet classpath.
I don't know if I have to configure Weblogic with any special parameter (RMI/IIOP) or something similar in IPlanet.

JDEV10G tutorial problems / JSP + BC + ADF

Creating a JSP Application using ADF Business Components and ADF DataBinding
I have some questions/remarks about the tutorial JSP application using ADF and JDev10G
All seem working fine until editing employee data. In the example, we have to edit the action java class to include some code that check a parameter "Update" and after if some errors was generated. If it is no error the class will return an actionforward corresponding to "browse". If it is somme errors detected we will return the actionforward corresponding to "success" that is not a very good idea ! but it is not the current thema.
First of all, it not asked to create in the struts-config.xml a globalforward or forward in the dataaction corresponding to "browse". I think it is missing or i'm wrong may be ?
Second, the class never get the object with values (Object s = request.getParameter("Update") it is always null) so i never go into the code and return an empty object. May be we have to add some code when submitting the changes with the update button ? It is nothing described in the tutorial !
Third, the change in forward in the dataaction class are not synchronized in the struts page flow editor. Is it a normal behavior or something is wrong ?

Adf-Struts/JSP/BC4J- and setting date fields from jsp

Hi,
I'm working with the new ADF Frameworks (JDev 9.0.5.1) and ran into some questions regarding exception handling using BC4J, Struts and JSPs.
I have a DATE column in database and an entity and VO with a datefield with type oracle.jbo.domain.Date.
My JSP shows a textfield and the user should enter a valid date. Everything fine, until date is of wrong format or contains illegal characters...
Problem:
ADF tries to do a setAttribute on the datefield in VO row which expects a parameter with type oracle.jbo.domain.Date. When the user entered e.g. "NiceWeather" as date, I get an IIlegalArgumentException while converting to the correct Date format. This exception isn't thrown by bc4j as AttrValException and therefore my JSP renders a global error instead of a message directly behind the date field.
I tried to validate the datefield in my DataForm and in my Action in the validateModelUpdates() method, but with no fitting solution.
Any ideas how to validate a datefield with adf/struts/jsp/bc4j?

Torsen - In the first instance I'd recommed that you try and handle it declaritively using the Struts Validator Framework . See http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/howtos/10g/StrutsValidator/struts_validator_howto.html
There is a section in there on how to use the validator with ADF databound pages and you can check the format the user enters via generated JavaScript.

Making a delete commit automatically with ADF BC, Struts and ADF UIX

I'm trying to create a delete action that commits to the database automatically using ADF Business Components, Struts and ADF UIX.
I have a browse page from which the user can view all records in the table, and perform edit, create and delete actions on the data.
When the user selects a record and clicks edit they are taken to a screen where they can amend the details of that record. Create works in a similar way, but the create action on the view object is invoked before taking the user to the edit page (this is done by linking the browse page to an ADF DataAction (bound to Create) on the Struts page flow diagram, and then linking the ADF DataAction to the edit page).
When the user clicks submit on the edit page, the container follows a forward from the edit page to an ADF DataAction bound to the Commit method, and then from there a forward back to the browse page.
This seems to work fine for edit and create, but when I try to do something similar for delete, it behaves unpredictably - sometimes the delete is committed to the database, sometimes not.
To be more specific, the way I have tried to implement the auto commit delete is as follows:
There is a UIX submitButton on the browse page called Delete. When clicked, this button triggers an event, which is caught by an event handler inside the page. The event handler causes the UIX servlet to take a forward to an ADF DataAction bound to the Delete method on the relevant view object. It thens follows a forward from the previously mentioned DataAction to another ADF DataAction bound to the Commit method for the application module. There is then a forward leading back to the browse page.
Has anyone else encountered similar problems?

Struts Actions and events in one jsp?!

Hello,
I have a problem with Struts actions and events in a jsp.
It is a search page and when the user clicks the search button I trigger an event and when the user clicks on a link in the result table (same page) I use an action that opens a new detail jsp. The first search query works well, I get a result, open the detail page, go back (using an action).
Then I start a new search, but struts tries to open the detail page. While debugging I found out, that struts apparantly has no action or event. Why does it work at first time?
Any ideas?

ADF Struts JSP SelectList

JDeveloper 10g JSP, Struts and ADF application.
I am developing a search form that has a number of criteria fields one of which is a selectlist.
The code that is generated when I drop the data control as a single select list onto the jsp page is as follows:

The list is populated and I can select a value, however the value I need is the value of the prompt not the value of index (the prompt is a string) to be assigned to the parameter SearchCodeType when I submit so I can use this when adjusting the where clause of my view object to return the correct results.
I am looking for a Struts/ADF/JSP solution.

Have you guys find a way to save(commit) the multi-selection that is created as a part of the list. Steve Muenek put me in the right directions but if you guys have find a way or code please let me know since the time is running short and I would hate to move to another tool to get this functionality.
I have the implementation methods using BC4J/View Object and do understand I'll need to override the create() method but just don't know how to read the records using the iterator or from the array of strings that is saved after the user has created multiple selections.
We are using ADF Struts at least for now.

ADF/TopLink/Struts - start browsing from a given row position?

I created a web-application to browse a table called "Project" in the database using ADF/TopLink/Struts, following some online tutorials, and successfully deployed it to Tomcat 5.5.7. Now I am able to browse the table using the following link,
http://localhost:8080/Project/browseProject.do
Since there are too many data records in the table, I am wondering if there is a way to jump to a given row using something like,
http://localhost:8080/Project/browseProject.do?Project_ID_No=123
where "Project_ID_No" is the primary key of table "Project".
I understand that we can retrieve the value of the "Project_ID_No" parameter from the HttpServletRequest. The question is how to obtain the currency corresponding to the value of "Project_ID_No" and perform some necessary steps afterwards?

Sorry I haven't been able to reply, got dragged into an emergency project.
I have it all working very well, and I really should have figured the commit thing out myself, I was just thinking about it way too hard.
I do have one more quick question about something I was able to do, I want to have a link next to each row that will delete that row. In order to do that I need to:
1) Set the current row
2) Delete the row
3) Commit
I was able to do this declarative without having to create any extra data actions by passing three event params on a link such as the following
<a href="engineManagement.do?event=selectRow&rowKeyStr=<c:out value='${Row.rowKeyStr}' />&event=Delete&event=Commit" >Delete</a>
(selectRow is bound to the setCurrentRowWithKey method)
Should I be using the event system in this way?
This seems to work very well, but i'm concerned about the ordering of the events, if they get executed in the wrong order, the wrong row will be deleted or the transaction won't get committed. Will the ADF controller always execute events in the order they appear on the query string?

When adding his portlet to a page, he basically received a portlet without any data, while the same worked fine outsi

We figured out that if we add the following filter mapping then it works fine:

This filter mapping would mean that it maps all URLs to the ADFBindingFilter. I suppose this would not be necessary and we're concerned about the implications this might cause and we believe that there should be a better solution for this.
The final reply from support was that Portal is not yet supported with ADF technology. Does anyone have any comment on the above filter issue and other thoughts on using Struts and ADF in Portal? Another issue we found was that the PDK Struts tags do not support EL expressions. Have a look at this forum post:

Having a problem running jheadstart app and adf-faces-demo on wls 8.1 sp4

I have created a very simple jheadstart app in Jdeveloper. Also I have created a project from the adf-faces-demo.
I am now trying to run both applications on weblogic 8.1 sp4
Both applications exhibit the same behavior. When trying to load the index page, the progress bar on the browser indicates that the page is loading (and stays there) and I don't see any error in the output log (except for the message:

Which I understand is harmless.
I have done the following to try to make this work:
Make sure that the application is compiled in JDK 1.4
Add the recommend jlib, lib, and MyFaces jars to the classpath.
Change the extension of the index page to jsp and change the web.xml to:

I noticed you reported this on the JDev forum as well. Deploying ADF-Jhs apps is not different from deploying a plain ADF app, (apart from the Jhs Runtime lib that should be added to the .ear file), so please continue to use the JDev forum to resolve your problems.
