Communicate with RS485

Hello,
I want to communicate with two device (up to twelve). The problem is that the documentation of my device is very badly written (DSP9000 from Riber if you want to know). It says that for a network communicating I should write for an commands : EOD GID GID UID UID STX MN1 MN2 <command> ETX BCC    (for example "r off" is a command). When I write on one device only I use the attached file (ex.vi).
Someone can Help me ?

If some information miss please leave me a message
Thanks,

The first reason your code won't work is that the string you are sending is "@ABCDEF" which means nothing to the controller.  You have to send the string of characters that are formatted on page 18 of the manual you attached.  I am not sure if you looked at my example code at all.
Your string control is labelled as "String (HEX formatted ASCII" but is actually just normal display with hexadecimal digits and spaces.  As a result you are doing a lot of manipulation of the characters to convert them to hex codes.  All you need is a string control that has its properties on the right click menu set to Hex display.  Then you can type in the hexadecimal string and use the string as is.
I am reattaching your VI with this control set to the example string shown on page 19 of the manual.  Try this to start.
Then the question will be are there just a few commands you will execute which you can predefine the string to send along with its checksum character, or will the VI need to be more flexible to send any kind of command.  If the latter, you will need to code how the block checksum character is calculated.  You would also have to concatenate the special control characters together like I did in the example I attached earlier.
I would also recommend that you attached a serial read function so you can see what response you get back from the controller.  If you are still having problems, double check your serial port settings of baud rate, parity, data bits, stop bits.
Also check your wiring.  Your subject says you are using RS-485.  Is it 2-wire or 4-wire?  The manual is a little cryptic in that it starts talking about RS-422 on page 21.  But on page 22, lists the RS-485 2-wire and 4-wire setups.  But it never truly shows the full wiring of an RS-422 setup.

  • I want to communicate a RS485/2-wire device through COM1. I tried Instrument I/O Assistance to write to COM1(hex string with or without end bye:0D0A), something happened on the bus, but is not defirrential signal, and device didn't recognised them.

I am new to LabView, so please bear with me...
I tried to communicate with an RS485/2-wire device through COM1.  I used Instrument I/O Assistant (and Advanced/Basic Serial Write and Read examples) to write command (HEX string) to COM1,
tried writing HEX strings with and withour end bye (is 0D0A the correct end signal for HEX string?).  Both didn't get device's responce.  Looks like the device didn't recognize the command.
I monitored the transmitted signals on the bus, they were not differential as supposed to be.....
What is the possible reason to cause this? Please help...
The hardware connection is OK, because I am able to communicate with the device through COM1 (with the same command) using different software application.

How are you sending the hex? Is your string control set for hex display or normal? If it's set for normal, then if you send something like 'AD', then you aer sending the ASCII characters 'A' and 'D' and that's not the same thing. I don't believe the I/O assistant can send hex but you can modify the basic serial write and read to do so. Just right click on the string control and select 'Hex Display'. You can also enter the data in a numeric control (set for dex display) and use a type cast or an array of U8's and use the Byte Array to String function. Hex data usually doesn't use any kind of termination characters such as CR/LF.
If communication is working with another app, then as you said, the hardware is okay and it's not a problem with differential signaling.

  • How can I write VISA in labview to communicate with instrument using RS485

my instrument has a Modbus communication procotol, how can I use VISA write or read to communicate with the instrument? Thanks!

RS485 is simply a physical-layer protocol defining pinouts, signal levels and the like. To make the connection you need either an RS232-RS485 converter (check with BlackBox) or an RS485 serial IO card (check with NI). Either way, there should be no changes required to you Modbus drivers or other software.

  • Chromalox 6040 and 6050 temperature controller with RS485

    Hi,
I have a Chromalox heater and the Tempererature controllers (6040 and 6050).  Both controllers has the RS485 hook-up.  I would like to know how to communicate with these devices.  The devices themselves can function as an stand alone units with PID controller installed. These devices can be used with automatic or manual control.  I would like to set it on automatic and control it from Labview.  I am currenlty using the Fieldpoints modules with Labview 2009. I have several questions: 1. can I wire the RS485 2-wire connector directly to the field point module?  2.  if I need an RS 485 converter, I will use the RS485 to USB.  Would I then just use the RS232 visa? 3.  there are two connection on the controller for the RS485, I am not sure how to wire that together as twisted wire.  I have looked at the forum on the subjects and find bits and pieces of info..  I would like more directions.
    Thank you,

Sorry, I believe I convoluted the issue here at hand.  Let me retract my earlier statement and say this.  Your FieldPoint module has the RS232 port on it, where you can write serial commands out to the device (I mentioned using Optomux earlier, while this is possible, upon second thought it is unnecessary).  You can then have the RS485 port write out to your temperature controllers.  Is this what you are trying to accomplish?  You should be able to wire the connections directly to the FieldPoint module.  Sorry for convoluting the issue earlier.  Does this answer your question more closely?  You mentioned using an RS485 to USB converter, where does that come into play?  I understood that you wanted to go from the FieldPoint RS485 port to an RS485 port onthe temperature controller?

  • HP LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nw unable to communicate with product

    Hi guys,
I've had a HP LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nw for 12months now and it has worked great over my wireless network. I recently upgraded from router from a 5 year old single band router to a late model dualband wireless N router.
Since i did this my HP LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nw was unable to reconnect to my new network.
I have uninstalled the drivers and have tried reinstalling the drivers but each time (after I select Connect the Product/Coonect through wireless network, have tried both Yes retrieve the wirelss settings on my computer and No I will enter the wirelss settings manually) but no matter which I select the printer is installed successfully but then gets stuck at 15% and says cannont communicate with the product.
I have disabled my firewall during the installation and have only used the USB cable when the installation has asked me to do so.
The printer is visible in control panel but each time I do a test print or send something to the printer in the sys tray the print job is shown but nothing ever happens.
The installation will work fine if I install it via the directly connect to the computer using USB option.
If I do a test print fromt he printer itself by going into the network setting, network test it prints a page that says:
    Wireless On Pass
    Wirelss Working Pass
    Network Name SSID Found Fail
    Security Fail
Your HP printer cannot find your wirelss router. The WPA authentification method on your HP has changed fromt he default setting.
Is there anyway I can edit the SSID network name and password without having to do this install process?
This is really frustrating. Just spent 3 hours with HP support which got me know where (they were reading the script the supplied me) and then when I rebooted and went to go back to online chat support the website tells me their support is only available during business hours!
    Any help would be great

OK time to back up totally.   I need to make sure you are following the instructions in the user guide to install this printer.  Please start from scratch by uninstalling all software from your computer and outline every step to make sure it is correct.
You have to use the USB cable to set up the wireless connection.
Go here for the User Guide and all installation info.  Get your drivers and troubleshooting info here too.

The reason we have to start over is that you started the software installation when you changed your router.  You don't have to do this, but now we do.

  • Unable To Communicate With Printer HP Officejet Pro 8600 (Network)

I recently purchased an HP Officejet Pro 8600. One morning a couple weeks ago I tried to print something and I received a prompt saying "Unable to Communicate with Printer (Network)". I turned off the printer and turned it back on which did not help, I then turned off my wireless network, turned it back on and still nothing. I finally figured out that I first have to turn off the printer, then turn off my wireless router wait thirty seconds, turn the router back on and the turn the printer back on. After these steps my printer was working. The next morning the same thing happened "Unable to Communicate with Printer (Network)" and I've been replaying Groundhog's Day ever since.
    Please help!

    Hello msheehy-
I would like to help you with this issue. It sounds like the router is changing the ip address of the printer. This could be caused by a couple reasons. (ip lease time, power loss to the router) I would recommend looking at the following link. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03781399&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4323648&tmp...
I think if you would set a static ip address in the printer EWS you would better off. I hope this helps.

  • Migration from Exchange 2007 to 2013 gives error "Failed to communicate with the mailbox database'

I have been trying to migrate several databases from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. The migration started successfully, and many of the mailboxes moved successfully (about 70). The remaining mailboxes, failed. Looking deeper, we found a few issues; The

Yes, the email addresses need to be unique to each device. You may use the same Apple ID on each device, but the email address used by each device needs to be different.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8100 unable to communicate with printer, but still prints

    Hello,
I have an Officejet Pro 8100 connected to a Windows XP SP3 computer via USB.
When installing  I downloaded the latest drivers off the HP webiste and followed the instructions for installing the printer and connecting via USB.  While installing I only installed the basic print driver.
The printer appeared to install correctly.
When printing (test page, or from other programs such as Word or Excell), the printer will actually print the requested document, however, an error box will pop up saying "Unable to communicate with printer".  The only option on the error box is the cancel the current print job.
Before cancelling the print job, even though the printer actually printed the document, I can still see the document in the print queue until I click the "Cancel" button on the error box.
I have deleted the printer, uninstalled and reinstalled twice, but the issue persists.
    Any ideas?

    Hi aconway,
I hate to hear you are having issues.  This could be caused by a port issue, bad USB cable/hub/switch connection, or possibly a spooler or driver issue.  Click Here to run the print and scan doctor (select OS, then click the + sign beside utility diagnostic tools, click the download button next to print and scan doctor). If you would like to learn more about your product, Click Here.
    Suggestions:
    1. Run the print and scan doctor to identify any port issues
    2. Connect unit directly to PC with new USB cable that meets specifications(no longer than 4-6ft).
    3. Remove any hubs or switches if being used.
    Hope this helps!

  • Jabber for Mac 9.2.1 Cannot communicate with the server

    Hi All,
I'm using Webex and the Jabber for Mac 9.2.1 client that was automatically pushed.  I see "Cannot communicate with the server" when I attempt to login.
The same credentials work correctly when using the 8.6.5 client version.  I've attached the problem report file.
I would appreciate some guidance on what I need to do to get this to work.
    Cheers,
    Steve

We've seen this with a few of our users as well. All started noticing having issues Friday morning. As this is a hosted service for us via webex we had our engineers call in to Jabber support. Cisco performed a modification to their account and they were able to connect again. No SRV records were messed with.
***EDIT*** - This appears to have been caused by a certificate issue. The Trusted Root Certificate for QuoVadis expired and was not renewed on some machines.
    Go here: https://www.quovadisglobal.com/QVRepository/DownloadRootsAndCRL.aspx
Install the Cert for : QuoVadis Root CA2 (in windows, download as DER>right click file>install)
Jabber should connect now. The issue was in SSL validation with the appropriate hosted servers.

  • Right way to communicate with a socket server (TCP/IP)

    Hi,
I used to write data from my J2ME socket client to a J2EE socket server with writeUTF(). In this way I can send (and receive) directly Strings.
When I need an XML file I ask the server with something like os.writeUTF(GIVE_ME_XML_FILE) and I use an XML parser with this socket InputStream.
I was wondering if it's the right way to proceed ....?
How do you guys communicate with a server when you need "to talk" a lot ? Do you use only HTTP requests or (if you are allowed to) do you use Socket with writeUTF ?
Just to know if I'm completely wrong....and if I gonna have unsolicited issues ...
    Thanks..

  • A network error occurred while trying to communicate with the server.

    Hello All,
I am getting some new error messages when opening the server app on my Mac Mini server running OS X 10.8.2 and Server 2.2.1. First I get a message that says "A network error occurred while trying to communicate with the server." and then after trying to open some of the service panes, I get additional errors that say "Multiple errors occurred on the server while processing commands." The services don't load and I just see "Error Reading Settings" in the server app.
I started to get these errors when I added a new website to the server. All the services are working fine but I cannot access them in the server app.
In console I'm seeing these errors when I try to access various services:
2/24/13 8:02:12.692 PM Server[956]: Error: The server '10.0.1.150' reported an error while processing a command of type: 'readSettings' in plug-in: 'servermgr_dns'. I have already restarted the server and used terminal to stop and start postgres. Any more thoughts on how to repair this?

Just as I had suspected, the whole GUI crashed because of certificate problems. After two and a half hours with enterprise support, it turns out the com.apple.servermgrd certificate in the server keychain had become corrupt.
We determined this by typing https://127.0.0.1:311 into Safari and we could see all the server modules and interact with them through the web interface. All the services were working properly as well so we knew that it was just the Server.app GUI that simply couldn't read settings that was causing the problem.
So, first we closed the server app. Went into /var/servermgrd and deleted all the files from this folder. Then, in Keychain, deleted the com.apple.servermgrd certificate. Did a search for com.apple.servermgrd in Keychain and deleted everything else that came up for it.
Then restarted the server. Now the server app was able to properly connect to the services in the background and read them properly. This was the jist of the troubleshooting that solved the problem. It also seems like DNS is causing problems because that is the only service that will not read right but is functioning properly in the background.
I will post an update once Apple figures out what is wrong with DNS. Hope this helps anybody else having these problems.

I have written a flash program using AS3 which allows the user to build a picture of a product using a variety of options displayed in checkboxes. Very simply these checkboxes either make a layer visible or invisible in my flash movie and certain choices may change the list of options. This information is currently being supplied by XML. Once the user has built his product, I would like to be able to save his choices in a SQL Server database and also be able to download his options again at a later date and view these choices at the manufacturing plant.
So far I have tried using asp.net to write to the database and have got the information to the asp.net program by using the querystring, however there may be up to 50 options which does make a querystring rather unwieldy. Also I cannot seem to send back information from the asp.net page to my actionscript. Can anyone tell me how to do this or give me an example? I am supposing that I use the response.write function in asp.net but what command in AS3?
I looked into the possibility of using a webservice but see that AS3 no longer supports this as all the functionality is in Flex. I have read about Flex but still do not understand whether  it could help me and how it can communicate with my flash program and pass the options in and out of it.
I also briefly looked at Flash remoting which did appear as though it was the answer but is even more expensive to buy than flash itself.
Can anyone give me suggestions on how to move forward with my problem

I haven't worked with ASP, so what I'm offering is based on using PHP.  For sending data to a database using AS3, you should be able to use the URLVariables class to pass the data to an ASP file.  The ASP file will maage getting the data into the database.  To get data out of the database, the most common method would be to treat the ASP file as a xml source, having it write xml formatted data to the Flash file.
You might want to Google "AS3 ASP SQL tutorial" and see if you get any results.  Otherwise, here's a link to a tutorial for a PHP/MySQL version that might at least give you an idea of the processing scenario...
