Communicating with firefox

Hi,
I hope this is the right place to ask this, I couldn't find a more specific forum to post this question and went with the most generic one.
I want to make a java application which will be able to communicate with a firefox extension.
The two should not be depended on each other, but when both are running they will be able to find and communicate with the other.
I'm searching and reading anything I can find on the subject and I got confused as for what is the way to do this.
Should I use LiveConnect or create a XPCOM in java?
Thanks, Nitzan

Hey Ben,
Thanks for taking the time to reply!
I think that you are right about the LiveConnect, and from the start I had my doubts about that being useful in my case.
As for the XPCOM, yes, it can be used to embed firefox in a java application but that's just one of the things you can do with it... from the JavaXPCOM page:
JavaXPCOM allows for communication between Java and XPCOM, such that a Java application can access XPCOM objects, and XPCOM can access any Java class that implements an XPCOM interface. With JavaXPCOM, a developer can talk to XPCOM or embed Gecko from a Java application. ( [MDC: JavaXPCOM|https://developer.mozilla.org/En/JavaXPCOM] )
That seems exactly like what I need! the problem is that the page was last updated in 2006 and the examples in 2007 (or something like that), not only it's old but also very poorly documented and explained.
I'm currently in the process of reading the [Creating XPCOM Components|https://developer.mozilla.org/En/Creating_XPCOM_Components] book, which is a tutorial on how to write XPCOM in C++, but the transformation between that and java is not that simple, for me at least..
I thought that maybe someone already faced this issue.
Thanks, Nitzan.

I logged into the forums with Firefox and the envelope icon is exactly where it's supposed to be. If you aren't logged in, you won't see it. Whaterrorareyougettingwhenloggingintotheforums?
Having everyone log into www.verizon.com won't work for those with community-only IDs. I like being able to keep things separate, thank you very much.

    Hi,
I've been trying out Stage Video and I have it working with the Flash Debugger stand-alone, Flash Builder web browser, Safari, and Google Chrome. I cannot, however, get it to work with Firefox. I have a Macbook Pro running 10.6.6, Firefox 3.6.13, and Flash Debugger MAC 10,2,152,21.

  • Can not print shipping labels on FedEx with Firefox 4

I print shipping labels from FedEx's website using their ship manager online. Now with Firefox 4 I can not get shipping labels to print with any of my printers. I had to use IE to get it to print a label. I spent almost an hour with FedEx tech support and could not get it to work until I tried it with IE. I have had no problems with previous versions of Firefox.

If you use Quickbooks software, you could try the fix mentioned on the [http://community.intuit.com/posts/cannot-print-shipping-labels-from-ups-or-fedex-shipping-applet Intuit forum] It's the 4th post down.
The Fedex shipping label app was written by [http://quickbooks.intuit.com/product/add_ons/shipping_manager.jsp Quickbooks], so it might work.
Alternatively, maybe one of the Add-ons listed here will work: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=print&cat=all&x=0&y=0 Print Add-ons]

  • Volume buttons interfere with firefox plugins

    Hey there ThinkPad community!
Recently I have noticed that when using the Adobe Reader Plugin for firefox the volume won't change anymore upon pressing the volume buttons. The onscreen display pops up showing the current volume yet it won't increase or decrease. When pressing the mute button nothing happens at all. This behavior only occurs when the focus is set on the plugin (i.e. I have clicked somewhere on the PDF)
Also when I am watching a flash video like this one: German News (and again the focus is on the plugin) odd things like video pausing will happen whenever I press or hold one of the three volume buttons. At least then the volume does change.
Is this a problem of firefox or is it one of the ThinkPad drivers?
    I am using firefox 11.0
    Adobe Acrobat plugin version 10.1.1.33
    Shockwave Flash plugin version 11.1.102.62
    on a X201t with Windows 7 Professional 64bit SP1
I will tell You the versions of the "volume button control programs" if You tell me which ones those are.

Hello TheMan and welcome to community,

Kindly install the updated hot key and power management driver and check if it resolve the issue.

  • Repeated freezes on imac with Firefox?

I'm working with a brand new iMac, so it seems odd to see freezes. Firefox keeps sending a message to upgrade, which I always agree to do, but the upgrade hasn't registered yet. Could this issue be the problem? Anyone else out there experiencing this issue? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Greetings,
I haven't had any issues with FireFox myself lately.
Do you have the same issue with Safari?  If not then issue is not with your computer, but with FireFox.
    Try following Mozilla's basic troubleshooting.
You can try removing FireFox from your Applications folder and then re-download it: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/.
If neither of those help and the issue does not happen with Safari then you may wish to ask in the Mozilla support community as Mozilla makes FireFox.
    Hope that helps.

  • Does Trend Micro Web Protection add-on work with Firefox 5??

negotiating the screen changes just to ask a simple question took me through 9 screen changes already!!! why the "screen testing"? I am not trying to get a part in a movie. Simply, when I checked "help", "forum",and now prompted to ask this as a "new" question although I saw in forums 450 or so users complained that their FF4 was not compatible as the last version of 3 was. Without taking 6 hours of searching 25 more screen changes: simply does anyone know if this will crash/hang/send error pages or damage our PC's to have FF5 and this TM security add-on together? thank you for your consideration of my question, and I apologize if my fonts show up on your side and are bothersome. I need them for my vision impairment

NOTE: Firefox 4 and 5 are in the past. Firefox 6 is the current version. Beginning with Firefox 5, the prior version is "abandoned" and will receive no more security or stability updates. The security and stability updates are included in the new version that follows.
As for the screens, the developers of the Firefox help system/forum/knowlegebase are trying to make the system as user-friendly as possible and the work is an on-going process. You are presented with possible posts that match your question so that the few unpaid volunteers here are not excessively over-burdened with questions that have previously been asked and answered. We receive more questions than the few volunteers willing to devote their time to this forum can answer. The search functions on this forum are recognized as "lacking" in many respects and are currently under serious review and re-development. The "Ask a New Question" screens were designed to collect the appropriate information that the unpaid volunteers here need to assist you with finding a solution.
'''Now, on to your real question.'''
The developers of products that install toolbars into Firefox determine with what versions of Firefox those toolbar will work.
*Generally only the toolbar gets disabled in a new version of Firefox and the underlying application continues to function properly. You can post your question(s)/concerns on the Trend Micro forum below for clarification directly from the source (the developer).
*That Firefox version information is coded into the toolbars that they develop '''''and''''' only the developer can change that compatibility information after they complete their testing.
That said, all third-party developers know how/where to find the Firefox release schedule and how/where to find the test (beta) versions of Firefox to use in testing their products for up-coming releases. The beta testing will last several weeks, but it is the developers' responsibility to keep up with the changes in Firefox. Mozilla (Firefox) has made a concerted effort to encourage third-party developers, especially those producing security products (firewalls and AV/AS), to update their products prior to a new Firefox release. A couple of security product vendors were ready on 08-16-2011 when Firefox 6 was released. Several are still working on their updates and do not seem to be concerned about the happiness/unhappiness or the security of their paid or non-paying (free version) customers.

I am not a Trend Micro user and, therefore, do not know what function(s) its toolbar performs. Firefox has built-in Phishing and Malware protection (Safe Browsing) to help keep users away from known malicious websites:
