"CommunicationException: Unknown service" - CORBA helloworld

I have installed 8i on NT (meanwhile praying for the linux port),
and was able to get the CORBA helloworld example to compile and
"loadjava" into Aurora. I can run it locally using the supplied
"runit.bat" file, but when trying to connect to it from a remote
client I consistently get the following exception at the point of
"lookup" with the JNDI context -
the ic.lookup(serviceURL+objectName) line:

There have been a couple newsgroup posting about this problem on
the net but no answers. Hoping one of you all out there might
have a clue.
This exception occurs with jdk1.1.7 on linux, and under JBuilder2
on Win98. The helloworld example itself was compiled with
jdk1.1.8 on NT.

ok, i've moved to 8.1.7.
I'm using linux version but my problem now is when i try to connect to ejb [in code:
CustomerHome ch = (CustomerHome)ic.lookup ("sess_iiop://myhost:2481:db1/test/customer");]NamingException caught:javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: Nothing bound for specified name [Root exception is org.omg.CosNaming.NamingContextPackage.NotFound]
I've inserted in my classpath reference to aurora_client.jar (in which org.omg.CosNaming.NamingContextPackage.NotFound is present).
Please help me.
Thanks in advance.

    I tried to put it in init.ora

  • Unknown service: errors ?!

    Hello,
    i am still getting Unknown service errors using JDeveloper 3.2.2 and Oracle 8.1.7, InfoBus java client.
    Here is a simple checklist:
    1) sess_sh - connection OK
    2) Connection manager in JDeveloper - OK
    3) deployed Application Module as EJB Session Bean - OK
    3) test AM using Local mode - OK
    4) test AM using EJB mode - OK
    Now i created simple InfoBus client with SessionInfo and one RowsetInfo. It works in local mode, but it fails in EJB mode stating: Unknown service: session0.
    The same problem appears using Oracle 8i CORBA server, testing OK, deployment OK, but remote mode is unavailable.
    I had no such problems using JDeveloper 3.1 and Oracle 8.1.6.
    Can anyone try to create simple InfoBus client for example on scott/tiger schema, and report me success/failure ? I cant find a reason why it should not work .. :(
    thanks a lot

  • Can't Install Apps....Unknown Service Error

    I'm trying to log in to install the new CC apps, but I can't as I just get the "Unknown Service Error - can't sign in at this time" message.
    Funny thing is, I can sign in through the website, and when I try to download the apps from there, it then launches the CC app, and gives me that same message.
    Help!

    If you are unable to sign in to Creative Cloud Connection but there is no error message please try following these steps:
    1. Quit Creative Cloud Connection and Adobe Application Manager (if it's running).
    2. Delete your opm.db file from this location: Windows - c:\Users\/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE/opm.db
    3. Restart Creative Cloud Connection. You will be prompted to sign in again.

    Hi,
    This error usually shoots up due to the incompatibility with the dependecies. Can you please summarise how you went on compiling the application. Meanwhile, I'm trying to simulate same scenario with the GreeterEJB and the Converter examples.

  • "An unknown service exception occurred" error when attempting to change Microsoft account

    I am trying to change the e-mail address of my Microsoft account I use to access MSDN. On the “My Account” page I select the “Change Microsoft Account for this subscription” link and enter the temporary passphrase

    The Reference Id changes with each subsequent attempt.

    Uberstomping,
    I recommend you contact MS Partner Support about this issue.  You can reach them by visiting
    http://MSPartner.microsoft.com and then clicking "Support".   Since this is an account specific issue, you'll need some individual help to resolve that should not be handled publicly.

  • Adobe Document Services/CORBA Conflict.

    Hello,
    We use an application (BackWeb) that connects to the SAP Netweaver Portal using CORBA.  The application worked OK until we upgraded to NW2004S.  After we upgraded to 2004S, the Adobe Document Services (ADS) was enabled by default.  The ADS prevented the CORBA session as it found it to be illegal.  Therefore, we had to disable the ADS.
    We would like to use ADS in the future.  Has anyone come across this problem?
    Thanks,
    Manoj

  • Ftp/tcp: unknown service - Sol8, as root, my files are good!

    I've done some research and tried a few things, but for one reason or another, I am unable to ftp OUT as the root (or any other) user on my Ultra 5/Solaris 8 box.
    /etc/inet/services, inetd.conf, and /etc/nsswitch.conf are all in proper order with 644 permissions and all that good stuff.
    I searched Google and followed all the tips I could find. This is NOT a complicated setup. I simply have a little workstation set up with a default Sol 8 install. I can ping my default router and my name server, and also the host I'm trying to ftp. I used the absolute path to try and execute it, I don't know what else I can do.
    Any clues?

    Hi,
    I am not sure if you tried this but you may want to take a look at the contents of the file ftpusers found in /etc. If the username root is in that file you will not be able to use ftp as root, it is a security issue. If you want to be able to use ftp as root you must remove root from that file. /etc/ftpusers stores all the users that can not log into ftp.
    Hope This Helps.

  • CommunicationException - Unknown host

    I can successfully initialize a new context/context to an Active Directory that is in a test domain, outside my work Domain. To do this I specify the servers IP address/port in the PROVIDER_URL environment property.
    When I subsequently attempt to search the AD using the established context I see a CommunicationException with a rootException of UnknownHost - the message detail contains the text 'testdomain.com:389'.
    Looks like the JNDI LDAP provider is trying to resolve the IP address to a server name, but it is failing.
    Anyone else seen this behaviour - any environment property I can set to inhibit it so that the IP address is used.
    TIA
    GK

    seems like your system is unable to resolve the hostname testdomain.com. use the IP address instead.
    Or you can add the hostname-IP mapping in the /etc/hosts file (in unix).
    For windows i think its the system32\drivers\etc\hosts file.
    127.0.0.1 localhost

    Hi Gabriel:
    I have got the same problem you described. I "resolved" it
    (partially as you'll see)
    connecting directly to the dispatcher. Of course you have first
    to configure INIT.ORA
    so that the dispatcher resides in a well-known port(you can see
    the port of the dispatcher
    with the command lsnrctl --> services).
    Here is the code of my client:
    try {
    ServiceCtx service = (ServiceCtx)
    contexto.lookup("sess_iiop://155.210.155.145:1035");
    SessionCtx new_session = (SessionCtx)
    service.createSubcontext(":session1");
    new_session.login("oodisbus", "oodisbus", null);
    est = (Estacion) new_session.activate("/test/myEstacion");
    catch (Exception ex) {
    ex.printStackTrace();
    The dispatcher resides in the port 1035 (so I don3t use the
    listener, port 2481).
    This, of course, isn3t a complete solution to the problem but
    it works.
    I am very interested in connecting directly to the listener(it
    enables you load balancing)
    so I will be very grateful if you let me know another possible
    solution.
    Thank you.

  • CommunicationException in NT

    Hello,
    I'm using sun jdk1.2 on an NT and I'm trying to connect to an Oracle 8.1.7 jvm. Even though I have gotten it to work fine with the client on a sun (running 1.2.2) when I put the client on NT 4.0 and try connecting to the same Oracle 8.1.7 ejbs, I get:
    javax.naming.CommunicationException: unknown service (ip address, port ,and instance)
    null

    Before re-install verify this error:
    Passwordjavax.naming.CommunicationException: amilsys.ansun-nt.com:4032.
    The installer couldn't connect to the OID, is it running?.
    If you thing it is running then try the following in the repository iasdb.
    select * from ods.ods_process
    You should se the info about the oidserver. Look for a
    -p parameter that indicates the port, you should see 4032, otherwise that is the problem, some times it is started on port 389.
    If it's not installed then verify if port 4032 is free or is used by some other process.
    If it was installed byt not working then try to start oidserver.

    I hate the buttons and grey background on my apps in 7.1!

    Thank for the quick reply!
    There were 2 things I did wrong and both of them you pointed out.
    I left off sid in the url and did not include the jar in my
    project. Now it works!
    Thanks again!

  • When I installed jms (j2ee1.3) my lookups doesn't work anymore...

    Hi. I was using j2se 1.3 and performed some lookups on objects from an Oracle 8.1.7.
    Then, in order to use jms, I installed j2ee 1.3 and j2se 1.3.1. Now my lookups doesn't work anymore, but my lookups on jms objects (por example Queue or QueueConnectionFactory) does work fine. This is the code that produces the error, and the error:

    String serviceURL = "sess_iiop://desarrollo:2482:SCANALES";
    String objectName = "/test/sInformacionSalida";

    Last, from the %J2EE_HOME%\lib\classes\jndi.properties:
    java.naming.factory.initial=com.sun.enterprise.naming.SerialInitContextFactory
    java.naming.factory.url.pkgs=com.sun.enterprise.naming
    The weird thing is that when I remove %J2EE_HOME%\lib\j2ee.jar from the classpath, the lookup works fine again but, of course, I can't use the jms classes.
    From the "Unknown service" message, I presume that the problem is related to the service provider and/or something with the environment properties.
    PLEASE ANY HELP!!
    Thanks.

    This seems weird enough for bringing to the attention of the JNDI technical team.
    If you have not already done so, you might want to send this message directly to them at [email protected]
    There seems to be some incompatibility between Oracle classes and J2EE 1.3 classes. As you have pointed out, in some service provider classe(s).
