Companies that use Fireworks for web

Does anyone have a list of companies that use Fireworks
primarily for web design instead of Photoshop in the US?
Specifically in Los Angeles, California?
Thanks

> As an advocate of the software it would be nice to say
to my boss "Hey,
> giant
> corporation X uses Fireworks. Maybe we should too".
(Note: I don't wish to undermine this thread with this
tangent. Apologies to
the OP.)
Yes that would be nice but bosses look for business cases to
switch or
change operations. Employees look for nice features.
"Hey, giant corporation X uses Fireworks. Maybe we should
too" is not a
business case. It's a preference based on comparing your
company to another,
which may or may not be relevant. It's not a compelling case
or approach
e.g. tell me why corporation X uses Fireworks.
The language to which a boss is receptive is more like:
"we currently do x in Photoshop daily which takes 2 minutes
every time we do
it - that's an aggregate of 2 hours daily. This would take
one mouseclick in
Fireworks and we'd get automatic y and instant z at the same
time. That's an
extra project we can finish each day, with no extra labour
cost, simply by
switching software. Cost to switch would be $w (zero?) for
hardware, $x for
software plus $y (zero?) for training."
If I was the boss hearing this from my employee, my attitude
would be: "I'm
listening. Show me more. Let's trial Fireworks and the
operational change
for 30 days and review it then".

  • Photoshop or Fireworks for Web Logos?

    Hi,
I just recently designed a logo for my friend Don Demaise's website: http://www.landcreationsnj.com
I used Fireworks for the logo. Would Photoshop be a better choice for web logos?
    Bob

Heh heh heh, if you told Don that a re-designed logo would help drive more people to his site, I can see how this thread could help that along...
I agree with Mylenium on this - use what you're comfortable with.  I use Photoshop for such things myself.
First impression, constructive criticism:  The bevel lighting on the edges of the "stones" in the logo seems to make them look slightly asymmetrical.  I'm not a big fan of the words reading in two different directions, either.

  • What should i use fireworks for?

Ok, so im thinking of upgrading my current Adobe package with
CS2 to the new CS3 and i was looking at the Webdesign premuim. And
it comes with Fireworks. I do a lot of webdesign and I was
wondering what exactly would i use fireworks for?
What does it do better than using plain ol' Photoshop for
    making templates and stuff? ect...
    Thanks

    Clandestinex337,
There is signficant difference between the Fireworks 8 and
Photoshop in terms of application feature and functionality.
Fireworks 8 is specifically designed for
    web graphic
    and
    web photos
while Photoshop is specifically designed for high-end
professional print and if you will also for professional
photographers to edit high quality photo images.
Additionally, like others have said about Fireworks have
    built-in vector-based and bitmapped-based, while Photoshop is
mainly bitmapped-based application. That is a major difference
between Fireworks and Photoshop in that respect.
If you understand, have some hands-on experience with
Fireworks and/or Photoshop, you will know the difference and
undeerstand the main or primary purpose of those two applications
-- whichever that fits right into your needs, your requirement and
    things like that.
If you aim for webdesign projects and if you work a lot of
image files aiming for web graphic and web photos, then Fireworks
    is for you.
I don't know if you have Fireworks or Photoshop installed on
your machine. If you do not have those two, perhaps that you might
want to test-drive those two for 30 days and let the experience and
hands-on tell the story and it speaks for itself.

  • Using "Save for Web & Devices" for a Organization Chart with Text

I created a document in CS3 Illustrator that is an Organization Chart. It contains rectangles, lines, and text. It looks great in Illustrator.
I have tried to save it using "Save for Web & Devices" to create a JPEG and a GIF so that I can pop it into a Dreamweaver document as an image and it keeps coming out blurry.
I have tried changing its size and resolution. I have tried opening and exporting it into Photoshop to try to "clean" it up. Nothing seems to be working.
I'm obviously unlettered in this modus operandi!
    meem

    Thanks for the response.
The background is transparent and will end up on a white background eventually.
I tried to make it clear in Dreamweaver by scaling it and it did seem to improve it somewhat. But it still doesn't look like the clear copy in Illustrator that I started with...
I also need to be able to embed this in a Word document to print for a hardcopy manual.
I had this same problem with Freehand a few years ago.

  • PNG changing colors using save for web (CS2)

Im having a problem with making PNG pictures when using the "save for web" function (this also happens in Image ready)
I make an image in sRGB color space and chose "save for web" and set the settings, all looks fine and i save it as png8 or png24.
Then when i view it in a browser the colors af "off" (desaturated) ??
But if i chose "Save as" in Photoshop, and chose png, and save it that way, the color macth up and looks allright.
What im a doing wrong ??
I have made a test with to sets of colors / picture one with "websave" color and one without then save them "using save for web" in gif, jpg with profile, png8 and png24
The gif and jpg goes well but the png's colors goes "off"
I also saved the to files using "save as" and here the png's colors looks fine
(Ther are also some screendums of my color setting, "save for web" setting and my screen profile if that can be of anny help
    http://home19.inet.tele.dk/jgom/pngtest/
Also! can anybody tell me this ?
When using "save as" i cant chose what png im saving as ? (8 or 24) What type of png dos PS use when you save it like that ???

Now I've read up on it, it seems the issue is indeed gamma.
(I really appreciate the "that's impossible, you must be doing something wrong" comments, by the way. Not "hmm, I don't know," but actually "what you've described in detail isn't happening; you're imagining things." Super helpful.)
Anyway the real question is: is there a way to stop Photoshop from including gamma data? It's apparently an optional portion of the PNG spec.
The whole gamma thing is unfortunate, but the *really* unfortunate bit is that Photoshop includes this information at all, particularly in a Save for Web context.
Most importantly, it seems this has been an issue for some time (Google "PNG Photoshop gamma"), and PNG is usually used for web, so why on Earth hasn't Adobe addressed this? Let's not forget that Photoshop is the industry-leading tool, and the Extended version costs $1000 by itself. The only options I've seen for saving as PNG in PS so far is sRGB conversion, bit depth, transparency, and interlacing. This whole gamma thing seems pretty unacceptable behavior, even by default.
I'm looking into pngcrush; does anyone have a simpler solution to strip the gamma information? Of course, if there's a way to do this in Photoshop itself, please please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Removing Exif Data with out using "Save for Web"

I have very large files.  I need to remove thw EXIF data.  I do not want to use "save for web" because it impacts the quality and size (recompresses) of the files.  I need the files to remain un changed except for the removal of the EXIF data.
I have a large number of files to do this to.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

Thanks Tai Lao for the shortcuts.
I have RAW files to start.  I "process" them and convert to jpg.  Then send them to the client.  But there are times the client doesn't need to be able to view the EXIF data, soooo....
    1. I'm working on seting up an action to convert the processed RAW files to TIFF first,
    2. then, using the shortcuts you listed, set up an action to take the tiff files through the process to strip them of the EXIF data and,
    3. then convert the resulting "EXIF-less" TIFF files to jpg - also using an action.  I'm going to try to build one action to do the whole thing but so far I'm still experimenting... I have to keep the file names...
    Anyway, I'll post my findings.
    Thanks
To whomever left the info about Exiftool - Thanks for that info as well.  I'll check it out but is seems a bit too complicated for large numbers of files.

    IIS is7.5, AppPool is Integrated.
I have tried below, none of them works:
    1) Add it only to system.web\httpHanders. Changed AppPool to classic, still got hidden error.
    2) Add it only to system.webServer\handlers. Integrated mode, still got hidden error.
    3) Add both to both element. Integrated mode, still got hidden error.

    Hi Kingofwebguru,
According to your description, when you use reportviewer control, you got the error message: The Report Viewer Web Control HTTP Handler has not been registered in the application's web.config file.
To troubleshoot the problem, please refer to the following steps:
Click Start, click Run, then type InetMgr.exe and click OK.
Click plus sign next to server name to expand it.
Click Application Pools in left pane.
In Application Pools list, click DefaultAppPool.
In the Actions pane, in Edit Application Pool section, click Edit Settings to check the Pipeline mode.
Configuration settings for the HTTP handlers are specified in the system.web/httpHandlers element and the system.webServer/handlers element. of your application Web.config file. The handler specified in system.web/httpHandler is used by Internet Information
Services (IIS) 6.0 or IIS 7.0 in Classic mode, whereas the handler specified in system.webServer/handlers is used by IIS 7.0 in Integrated mode. To use IIS 7.0 in Integrated mode, you must remove the HTTP handler in system.web/httpHandlers. Otherwise, IIS
will not run the application, but will display an error message instead.
For more information about Web.config Settings for ReportViewer, please refer to the following document:

  • Terrible image quality when using Save for Web in Adobe Illustrator CS6

When saving images of any format and of any ppi using "Save for Web", "round" corners become blurred and pixel , "acute" (vertical and horizontal) angles are clear and of good quality. Reinstalled system with the hope that the cure (Windows 7 64-bit) - has not helped. Up to this point, such a problem did not face, all was well. How can i deal with this?

You are not really making sense.
    a) Viewing images at more than 100% in any viewer will introduce resampling from image to screen space. Different tools use different algorithms, but none of them will ever be perfectly "sharp". Again, simple mathematics.
    b) JPEG is a compressed format that will never produce "sharp" lines in areas that don't coincide with the underlying block compression. If you wanted that, you'd use PNG or other formats.
So unless you can provide screenshots that illustrate your issue better at 100% zoom, I see nothing out of the ordinary here. Of course there could be all sorts of issues liek color space conversion or odd pixel sizes causing unfavorable distribution of compression blocks, but we realyl cannot judge any of that based on teh info you provided. Just saying that something doesn't look like you experct it to isn't really helping...

  • Question about file size when using "Export for Web"

    Hi!
I created a .mov file and worked to get a great balance between file size and quality so that I could deliver it via the web and make it easier for end users to see the video on a slower connection.
My question: When I use "Export for Web," my .mov file is converted into a very large .m4v file--more than double the size of the original file. I know that this export option is to optimize the file for a wide variety of users/internet speeds. Am I correct in guessing that the end size is not an issue? I would post the .mov file instead, but I really like the option of embedding into a html page along with the "click to play" option.
Bottom line--is it better to post the smaller .mov file that i originally started with or to go ahead and link to the bigger .m4v file that was created with the "Export for Web" option?

"Export for Web" is a feature of QuickTime Pro and it makes 4 files and the html page code for easy copy/paste Web page editing.
The very first file is called a "reference movie" and it links to the other 3 files (56kbps, 900kbps and 1.5Mbps). It, and the page code, "read" the connection speed of the viewing hardware and "serve up" the correct file based on that connection speed.
In nearly all cases the "Desktop" version would still be smaller in file size than the original source. The times the file would "increase" in file size would be when an already compressed was used as the source file. You can find out more about your source file by opening it in QuickTime Player and viewing the Movie Inspector window information.
There are dozens of other html "tricks" that could be used if your source file is already compressed but you want a different display size:
Page code to show "aspect" or scale="tofit". This code allows values "outside" of those found in the actual QuickTime file be used for the Web page display. A 320X240 QuickTime .mov file looks pretty good at double size (640X480) but the file size would still be that of the source file.
"Poster Movie" is another html trick that loads the Web based file directly in the QuickTime Player application (bypassing Web page layout restrictions). These files are also known as "Presentation Movies".
Another method is the QuickTime Media Link file (.qtl). These are simple text based files that are used as a "direct link". These use simple XML (Extensible Markup Language) and are easily created in any text editing application. The simple syntax has amazing control over a simple QuickTime .mov file. You can launch (and quit) the QuickTime Player, display at other dimensions and even embed "links" inside the display.
Some of my files as examples:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/Lemon_Trees/ a "Poster Movie" style.
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/.Public/RedneckTexasChristmas.qtl
A QuickTime Media Link file. A tiny file should download to the viewing machine, launch QuickTime Player, present the movie and it even includes a "link" to my Web page.
Edit: It appears you must now double click the .qtl download to launch QuickTime.

  • Why do my images appear washed out when I use Save for Web?

Q: The color/brightness/tone of my image changes when I use
    Save for Web. Why?
A: Photoshop is a color-managed application. The Web is not. Normally, when you view an image in
    Save for Web or
ImageReady you are viewing it without color management and see it how it will appear when uploaded to the Web.
To minimize changes, Convert your image to sRGB (i.e from
    Edit menu choose
    Convert to Profile )before using
Save for Web. You should also make sure that
Save for Web has been configured so that images are displayed using the document color profile (see attached screenshot for guidance).
You should also ensure that your monitor properly calibrated and the gamma is set to 2.2.

Same here. Didn't get any good New Years Eve photos indoors.

  • Color shift when using save for web

    Hello,
I am converting my psd files to jpegs using "save for web".  I am noticing that the colors are shifting from the original after saving for web. The color shift  does not happen if I just convert the psd files to jpegs by using "save as". The psds have a profile of RGB1998. I am using CS3 and my monitor is color calibrated.
Do I need to convert the psd documents to sRGB first before I go to "save for web"?
The preview doesn't look any different if  I check ICC profile in the save for web window. I have been told that you are not supposed to embed the ICC profile in the document when saving for web because most monitors are untagged.
Anyway I am  wondering if I have to accept a color shift when saving for web or is there something I can do to get the saved for web jpegs to more closely match the original psd?
Thanks a lot for your help.

I think the reason why this question is asked often is because the FAQ entry is pretty lame and incomplete, especially for Mac users that by default have a color managed browser and by default have a screwed up rendering mechanism for untagged images.
Depending on your version of Photoshop, you can convert to sRGB before or during the Save for Web operation.

You convert to sRGB for the systems that do not fully support color management.
    and...
You include the sRGB ICC profile for the systems that do support color management.
Doing both covers your bum in most situations. You may choose to omit the ICC profile if you are working on common interface graphics that do not require strict color management. The ICC profile adds a few kilobytes to the file size that are not necessary on lesser graphic elements on a web page.

    hi all!
    My question is:
We have 2 different companies that use SAP. Is there a way to "conect" both companies, so that company A gets information than company B has.
For example inventory levels from B, so that A can replenish when B has certain level?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi Mflores,
If you implement BW the you can get complete information n number of companies.
